Henry Evon m. Harriet Spring (Lafontaine)

Hello to all, I'm new to this game. Maybe this info will help some. My grandfather was JOHN EDWARD EVON b. 1893 Saginaw, MI. married NANCY BANKS CARTER. JOHN'S father was HENRY EVON, came from Canada, I think, and his ancestors from FRANCE, but don't know when. Henry married HARRIET SPRING OR LAFONTAINE. My family had always heard that the original name in France was EVEUX OR EVEAUX. Also I seem to recall my dad, William, mentioning an Uncle or Great-Uncle Napoleon.

8 Sep 1931, Philip Evon, 35, born in Waterbury, resident of Waterbury, Harriet Comber, 39, born in Woodbury, resident of Woodbury, John N. Lewis, (married by).

I have checked the SSDI and know both Philip and Harriet have passed on. (ref: their privacy). I am trying to find Harriet's family and wondered if anyone knows who they were. I do have her parents but not sure how they fit into the family. I'm researching Combers in Woodbury and Waterbury because they married into my family.

The information listed above is from the Woodbury Town Records on microfilm at the Family History Center. Film # 1491338 item 4. Records of birth, marriages and deaths from 1868-1944.

I have only until the 15th of February, then the film goes back.

Thank you for any help, Pat

John Evon b. Canada, d 1908 Chicago, buried Saginaw, MI

John Evon's Saginaw obituary lists that he had the following siblings: Peter (married Mary), Charles, Thomas, and Fred all from Saginaw, and Ferd from Chicago; Noah and Mathilda from Canada, and Julia from Detroit. Also states that he had an Aunt named Anna T. Tranjo from Saginaw. Anyone match up with any of these Evons? Could have been spelled Yvon, too. Am particularly interested in finding out who their parents were.

John also had sons Henry J., John, and William, and a dau who married A.L. Van Norman.

Hi Chris,

Would you happen to have any additional info about the William listed in your posting? I am trying to find info on my husband's family with not much to go on. My husband's father's name is William J. Evon, still living in Waterbury, CT area. His grandfather was also William J. Evon. William Sr. and his wife Dorothy divorced when William Jr. was about 5 years old so my husband never knew him. The only other name I have at the moment is Arnold Evon, a cousin to William Jr. who was godfather to my husband's brother.

Thanks, Kathy

Evon lived Waterbury, CT

Seems a bit of a stretch but anything's possible so here goes.
My grandfather's family (as far as I can trace) came from Waterbury, Connecticut having previously lived in Canada. If I can believe what I've been told and confirmed through census records, they emigrated from France to somewhere in eastern Canada. The only proof I have of their French descent was a grave marker (the temporary metal kind) that my grandfather asked be buried WITH him around 1976 bearing the name Etideau IVON (b.about 1869, d.12June1902 at age 33 in Waterbury, CT), supposedly his mother who's buried in Waterbury. My grandfather's sisters included Emma, Sophia, Rosa, Nina, Melvina and Ida. There were also 2 children born AFTER my grandfather (1900) but I have no names for either. George's father - John, wife Jane Laduke - both listed in Waterbury, CT census for 1900 as FRENCH CANADIANS, not naturalized citizens. Name of the town was Thomaston, CT, and according to the 1900 census Jane had 13 LIVING children.
Hope this helps and we ARE on the same track since there are so few with the EVON surname. I've been trying to track them for YEARS!
Also, I've got names: Lewis, Henrietta, Henry, Frank, Samuel and Herman that my aunts recall hearing but can't put with a parent, etc. Any clues????

Other brothers/sisters Donald, Emma, William, Arthur, Sophia, Rosa, Rudolph, Nina and Ida. Still hitting pay dirt???

Other listings in the 1900 CT census included Frank and Alesandra Ivon, Mador and Emma Evon.
