Hi Harriette,

Thomas and the less common Andrew are also names in my EWING / MATHEWS line in Pennsylvania.

The EWING Y-DNA project is being conducted at FamilyTreeDNA. If I'm not mistaken, there is some sort of discount through the EWING project via www.ewingfamilyassociation.org. You can visit FTDNA at http://www.familytreedna.com/.

Kind regards,
Mike

Hi again will see if I can rattle some cages for you about the DNA, who do you use for testing? I have no doubt that all the Ewing families are related. I have an aunt who used to travel to Pennsylvania many years ago. My grandmother's side of the family was Pauley and there are many in that State too.

Forgot to mention the last time that there are a couple of Ewing trees on My Heritage site for my family, one is "Thomas Andrew Ewing". Will have to look up the other name.
regards
Harriette

Harriette,

Nice to hear from you. It is very likely that we share common ancestry. Most of the EWINGs are closely linked with another in genetic terms.

Have you considered Y-DNA testing through one of your male EWING cousins? The Ewing Family Association needs more participants from Ireland and your family's participation would be helpful not just to the project, but also towards discovering more about your own ancient roots.

You can visit the Ewing Y-DNA Project site here:
http://www.ewingfamilyassociation.org/genealogy-and-history/...

Cheers,
Mike Ewing

Mike, my grandfather was Samuel Ewing(s) from Sixmilecross, Co.Tyrone (near Omagh) born abt. 1864 died 1934 I have one brother for him John from Recarson. I still have many cousins in the Omagh area and some here in Canada. My mother was the youngest of 11.
I too was checking up on Gen Thomas Ewing and found that we came down through different lines. I inherited a set of large family tree documents of the Ewing family, but no where do I find the name of Finis. This chart shows that the Thomas Ewing (great great grfthr of Gen. T E.)born in 1695 was the son of Findley, not brother. Findley was born about 1670. I hope this is helpful.

Obit of Mrs. Truman (Sarah Ewing) Brockway 1910

From the Chatsworth Plaindealer
Chatsworth,Livingston,Illinois

MRS. SARAH L. BROCKWAY
AUGUST 5, 1910

The remains of the late Mrs. Sarah L. Brockway, whose death occurred on Friday last, July 29, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Laura Myers, at Montieth, Michigan, arrived in Chatsworth on Saturday evening. They were taken to the home of Mrs. Dora Bangs and the interment was at the Chatsworth cemetery on Sunday beside the remains of her husband, Truman Brockway. Dr. Frank Brockway, of Oshkosh, Wis., accompanied the remains here and was met her by Dr. Charles Brockway and the latter's son, Attorney Howard Brockway, both of Brookston, Ind. Short services were held at the house and grave by Rev. O.M. Dunlevy, pastor of the M.E. church, the funeral services having been held at Montieth.
Sarah L. Ewing was born May 13, 1840, in Livingston county, N.Y. She was married to Truman Brockway in November, 1858, and they came directly to Chatsworth, where Mr. Brockway erected the first house built in Chatsworth, a two-story frame building, on the lot where Hollywood and Mouritzen's meat market is now situated. The second story was the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Brockway, and on the first floor Mr. Brockway and Charles Brooks conducted a general store. They resided in Chatsworth until 1876, when they moved to a farm southeast of Chatsworth and later to the farm south of this city, where Chris Shafer now resides, and where they continued to reside until Mr. Brockway's death a number of years ago, since which time Mrs. Brockway had made her home with her children.
She was the mother of four children, all of whom survive her, namely: Dr. Charles T. Brockway, of Brookston, Ind.; Mrs. Laura Myers, of Montieth, Mich.; Mrs. Mary E. Breeze, of Yoeman, Ind.; Dr. Frank Brockway, of Oshkosh, Wis.

I'll second Karen Avery's suggestions to visit the Ewing Family website and, if a living male Ewing is willing, to have a Y-DNA test performed. I've done one myself and am still hoping for close matches for someone with a Tyrone background.

Good luck and regards,
Mike Ewing

Hi, My Ewing's came to Canada via Scotland, from Co Tyrone. Late 1780's thru 1820's. Finally settled in Quebec. Some went to the USA and I do know of some that stayed in Scotland. What I don't know is if any of the family stayed in Ireland.

Mathew Ewing
Ann Kelly
Both of Co Tyrone.

View the tree here (world connect)
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...

Or if you can't get to the link, contact me directly at
ancestry at ripandrevmedia.ca

Tammy

Please let me know if you find your Ewing relatives in Omagh. I do have a rather new list of people currently living there including address and phone number. I would be happy to share via email.

Do you know about Ewing Family Association? Find us here:

ewingfamilyassociation.org

We have a wonderful site and welcome all to our group. If you have a living Ewing male, his yDNA could be very helpful to you and the surname in general.

Karen Avery
EFA Genealogist
bkavery2@comcast.net

Nikki, since you already have the cemetery inscriptions, there may not be much help I can give you. Have you visited the graves? Do you live in the area? I've now read some of your older queries, and have a better idea about your John and Margaret, and with this information, I'll leaf through some of my notes to see whether anything clicks. I've been looking at these people for many years, as I've hoped my own problems might be solved in the area, but, like you, sorting them out proves difficult! I am also interested in the Ebaughs and the Danners, partly across the state line in Maryland. Georgia

Was your John's wife's name Margaret? I have some notes from cemetery records for a John (b. 1825)& Margaret (b. 1824) buried in same cemetery (Gatchetville) as both James and Alexander Ewing. Both of latter died in 1855. Let me know if you need more detail.
email geoiamorgan at att.net.
I have searched high and low for a Joseph Ewing born in PA in 1835. He married Mary Ann Pinkerton b.1835 Somerset, PA and d.1904 Newcastle, PA. They had one son Harry Eugene Ewing b.1865 Allegheny, PA and d.1945 Kansas City, MO. The family story is he went west never to be heard from again. Mary Ann then married Samuel Mckay (a widower) and they had a son Samuel Jr. born 1870. This came from an obituary for Mary Ann, who was my great grandmother. Most info on the Ewing/Pinkertons was from Beaver Falls, PA, Allegheny, Pa.
Thanks Terry Ewing Schulz schulz912@comcast.net

I am a grandson of Everett Eugene Ewing, great-grandson of Edward Edmund Ewing. Our grandfathers were brothers.

With the help of a cousin who knows how to do genealogy research I have the following census information. This added another generation - to John Ewing in Ohio.

I would like to see your photo of Lucina. I remember seeing her once or twice as a child.

We live in Longmont, Colorado, where Edward and Lucina lived for a time in the 1920’s. I have a newspaper clipping of Glady’s wedding which I could share, and photos of their house, which is still standing.

Best wishes,
- Don Ewing

1850 United States Federal Census Sterling , Brown, Ohio
Family Number: 1980
William Bamaugh 41 b.abt 1809; b.
Hi, My cousin who lives in Dunoon, Argyllshire tells me Paisley is about ten or fifteen minute train ride to the west of Glasgow. All of my cousins and relatives from my mother's side still live in Scotland. I am going to go back and do more research on the Ewing side which was my father's mother's family. There are some tragic stories related to them which I have found proof of in the marriage and death records. I am going to invite you to view my tree if you wish. Thanks Jane Ewing Gaitens

Am an Orr seeking your help documenting ELIOTT b.1720 who is also your ancestress. Found you as descendants. Have you back at THOMAS EWING b. 1811 living in Lowell, ME, son of WILLIAM EWING.
"Know" that Wm. Ewing was married to my ancestress Margaret BISHOP b. 17 Jun 1783 in Brunswick, Maine. Her father was ABNER BISHOP who married my ancestress Mary ORR b. "1762". Her parents were JOSEPH ORR of ORR'S ISLAND, ME and LETTICE ELLIOTT Wier of Boston who was born "1720 in Durham, NH". She was the widow of William Wier, merchant of Boston.
I used quotation marks to show non-documentation. However, I have high standards, and what I've written I'm fairly certain is correct. This is my first time branching outside my own ancesters' direct descendants. Hope to get some feedback!
