Hi Laura,

Gert & Marion who visited you is my mom's sister, my mom's name is Christina Rosemarie Ezekiel-White but she was known as Rose. Todd, Debbie and Sheila and Klaus are my cousins.
Here is an except from the history of Harbour Main that you will find interesting that I mentioned to you about the Ezekiels - http://ngb.chebucto.org/Articles/history-hm.shtml

In an 1805[5] survey taken by Governor Sir Erasmus Gower, we get a full account of the town with its coast boundaries, who claimed it, the people occupying it at the time etc. A close study of the names has aided us in discovering that the majority of inhabitants of Harbour Main are English or Irish descendants, but there are a few exceptions.

The LaCours and Fureys are French. They, at one time, were referred to as the “Joisey Birds.” Ezekiel is also a prominent name in the community. However, the first Ezekiel has been claimed as being an Arab. The first Woodford is said to have come to Harbour Main when a servant by that name was left the entire possessions of a Frenchman named Leroche who had no children.

Other English names in Harbour Main at this time were: Walls, Hicks, Barrett, English, Baker and Mason. Irish names were Terry, Gorman, Joy, Sullivan, Mullowney and Kennedy. Today the majority of these names still exist.

Hi Laura,
I am sorry I have taken so long to respond to you but I was never notified you had sent me an email. I am on facebook and have great photos of my grandparents,if you are on it please send me a message to add you as a friend, my name on facebook is Laurie White-Davalovsky and my email is Ldavalovsky@live.ca
I did get in contact once with Liam Ezekiel who is a NFL football player born in Arlington, Massachusetts who is the great grandson to Peter Ezekiel who left Newfoundland to the US and he confirmed that he and his father researched their roots and found out they were from Newfoundland, Canada and went there to visit. I have no idea when they settled but I have a document that I downloaded a long time ago about the history of Harbour Main Newfoundland, and the Ezekiels were one of the first settlers in the early 1800's and the original Ezekiel was an Arab. My grandfather would tell me that we were Portuguese Jews and then I met a doctor very involved in a local synagogue in Vancouver, where I live and his family were originally from Iraq. I believe our family might have been from the middle east and migrated to Portugal the over to Newfoundland, but that is just a guess based on my research.
Thank you for your email reply. Happy New Year.

I have found numerous records at the NGB website referencing a Peter Ezekiel and a Thomas Ezekiel in Harbour Main as early as 1796. There are recorded real estate transactions from the 1790's (Plantation Books) at http://ngb.chebucto.org/. I am assuming the Ezekiels were in Newfoundland
In the early 18th century based on these records. My research has been leading me to believe that perhaps the Ezekiels were Merchant seamen.

At a website called Maritime History Archive . There is a published cd called - Ships and Seafareas of Atlantic Canada -http://www.mun.ca/mha/publications.php. Does anyone own this resource?

I have also heard that the Ezekiels were originally from Ireland, and Ezekiel was not the real name. I will be following up on the Portugese suggestion.

I found a marriage record at the NGB site for a Peter Ezekiel and Catherine Woodford in 1821. This maybe the parents of Captain Paul Ezekiel.

Looks like Lucy Gorman was married twice or there were 2 Lucy's?
From Marriage records of St Peter and St Paul:

Page 5 GORMAN Lucy Hr. Main WOODFORD James Hr. Main May 02, 1859
Page 9 GORMAN Lucy Hr. Main ISAKEL Paul Hr. Main Jan 22, 1877

Does anyone on this list live near St. John Newfoundland? Again thanks for the info and Happy 2012.

Hi, I'm Beth Ezekiel. My great grandparents were William Ezekiel (1878-1965) and Johanna Fewer (1872-1964). They were from Harbour Main and moved to Camden, NJ in the early 1900s. I'm not sure if/how we are related. WIlliam's parents were John Ezekiel and Grace Wall of Harbour Main. FYI... many church records before the 1850s were burned in a fire, they were mostly from St. Patrick's Church. St Peter/Paul Church came about in the 1850's. Also, I have heard that the Ezekiels were originally from Ireland, and Ezekiel was not the real name, but one taken when they went to Newfoundland.

Good afternoon,

Thanks for taking the time to read & respond to my post. Some of the questions I have are:

Do you know where the Ezekiels came from prior to arriving in Newfoundland?

Do you have any info on our Great Grandmother Anna Hawco?

Do you have any info on our Great Great Grandparents, Paul & Lucy Ezekiel.

When I was a kid and we lived in the Bronx for awhile with my Grandmother, we had a visit from Gertrude Ezekiel and her children, Todd, Debbie & Sheila. I also remember Marion Ezekiel & Wilhelm Frantzen and their son Klaus visiting my family in Massachusetts sometime in the 1970s.

I could go on but that's it for now.

Thanks again!

Hi there. My grandfather was Christopher Ezekiel. I don't know a lot about the extended family but if there are any particular questions you have, please feel free to let me know and I can try to answer them.

My grandfather died in 1996 and my grandmother, Margaret Ezekiel, in 2005. They had 10 children and 19 grandchildren, most of whom live in various provinces of Canada. When I was growing up, we had an old black and white photo of my mother's "Aunt Gert," which would be your grandmother, framed in our living room. All I knew about her was that she moved away to the US when she was very young.

Our great uncle Joe, who died in the 80s, had a claim to fame that he was one of the only people ever to catch a live giant squid. There was an article about him written in Reader's Digest back in the 80s. My grandparents had a copy of it in their house. Here is a photo: http://ngb.chebucto.org/Dist_Photo/hm-squid.shtml

With such a large family, there are obviously lots of things I could go on about. Like I said, if there is anything in particular you are curious about, feel free to send me a message.

Looking for information on my grandmother's family. My grandmother was born Gertrude Ezekiel in Harbour Main, Newfoundland in 1905 to Michael & Anna (Hawco) Ezekiel. Michael & Anna had 2 sons..Christopher & Joseph. Michael's father and mother were Paul Ezekiel & Lucy (Gorman) Ezekiel. From what I can find 2 of Paul & Lucy's children settled in Boston...Peter (born Oct. 11, 1878) and Mary Gertrude (born 1889). I've been able to locate marriage records for both Peter & Mary Gertrude. Another son, Joseph, was killed in World War 1. There are also 2 other sons, Patrick & William. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am Sandra Ezekiel. I live in Cleveland, Ohio. My family is originally from South Carolina. Ernest Ezekiel married Eva Mack in about 1910. They had two sons Ernest and Thorne. Ernest Sr. died in 1913 and Eva and her sons moved to Cleveland, OH. Could we possibly be related?

Sandy

Re: Aaron Ezekiel and Elizabeth Caddell

Hello Dixie,

We messaged for a little while and I sort of dropped out when a contemplated trip to Oklahoma seemed to be taking a life of its own. At the time Jenifer was pregnant and "short of funds"; then her brothers and my nephews wanted to join in and I was advised they had no money. I'm not weathy and had not seen these children of my brother in about ten years so I didn't feel like making the financial sacrifice.

So that's what happened to me. I hope you are well. As I recall you are the daughter of my Uncle Gene as I think his wife's name was Sylvia. Fill me in.

I am particularly interested in learning if Aaron Ezekiel had any connection with the crypto Jews of Mexico. My mother, Pauline Marie Ezekiel, (born 1910) often talked of his trip to his land in Mexico. She said it was lost in the Mexican revoluntion. --Might he have inherited this land for it has always struck me as very odd that a poor man who did not speak Spanish would have purchased land in Mexico. During those times even a trip to check on the land would have been lengthy and dangerous. If it were passed down it make a little more sense.

Does anyone know how and when the Ezekiels came to Alabama? Has any one seen any immigration records or perhaps did they drift from the then Spanish Colony of Mexico which would have left no immigration records.

Also, my older sister Ruby (born 1931 ) says that my mother had some books in Hebrew that also had a few engravings in them. Ruby says that she remembers them vividly because there was a scene of torture. Seemingly these books disappeared from the house just before or during World War II.

Right now I am recovering from surgery so I'm on and off the computer.

With kindness,

Elizabeth

Hello Sandra,Sorry it took so long to respond your message, but i think there is quite a possibility that we are related primarily because our ancestors were black(AFRICAN-AMERICAN)and from the state of S.CAROLINA(DARLINGTON CO.AND CHARLESTON).The name EZEKIEL is very rare, but very biblical.I've been able to get back to my gggrandfather(EDMUND EZEKIEL)b.ca.1834.I have a sister-in-law from the CLEVELAND,OHIO area named(MARCIA ROBINSON EZEKIEL)who was married to my oldest brother(JAMES T.EZEKIEL) and they have one daughter named (TRAVION EZEKIEL).So stay in contact,i think this is an excellent lead.My e-mail address is Ezekiel12142001@netscape.net. I happened to glance at rootsweb last night ,and came across your message.I'm very proud of you for even taking the time out to get the" EZEKIEL CLAN" together.I have quite a bit of information on THE EZEKIEL'S.I've gotten back to our great-great grandparents who were EDMUND and CYNTHIA POOLE EZEKIEL b.1834 and 1842 respectively. Some of there children were my great -grandmother MARY"MOLCY"EZEKIEL-BULL,GRANDISON"GRANT"EZEKIEL, your gggrandfather SOLOMON"SAUL"EZEKIEL who married ALICE RICHARDSON,LINCOLN,CLARENCE,and EDDIE EZEKIEL. All of them born in DARLINGTON CO.,S.C. They were all scattered about from the SOUTHEAST to the NORTHEAST and so forth.I'd like to find out about the SAUL EZEKIEL( founder of the church in PHILADELPHIA,PA)I was able to meet our relatives PAULINE E.SULLIVAN,ADA E.HASBEN,ETHEL E.YOUNG,EDITH E.COLLINS,GEORGE EZEKIEL,and MILDRED EZEKIEL at our FAMILY REUNION in WILMINGTON,N.C. in JUNE 1999.I have more extensive information.Feel free to E-mail me at EZEKIEL12142001@netscape.net or call me at (336)989-4321.MY BEST REGARDS,CUZIN JERRY EZEKIEL

Hello cousin Tish, Thanks for the response!!!! I have not been able to locate a coat of arms for EZEKIEL,probably because it derived from the HEBREWS.Therefore it would not have been popular among the GOTHIC,ROMANS,and some of the rest.I have no suggestions at the present time, but eventually i can be of assistance.I think all of you NORTHEASTERN RELATIVES are doing a marvelous job on planning ahead for THE EZEKIEL FAMILY REUNION 2005 in PHILADELPHIA,PA. I think due to a short notice that we'll have a small gathering for the ones that can attend in DARLINGTON,S.C.this year. The following year 2004,after planning a year in advance we'll have a big family reunion in DARLINGTON,S.C. My mailing address is 813 WINSLOW ST.,HIGH POINT,N.C.27260. Until later keep me posted!!!!!!!!!!! COUSIN JERRY

Namesakes ... My Ezekiel lineage originates from Baghdad Iraq, migrating willingly to Shanghai 105 or so years ago with a coterie of business interests including Kaduri and Sasoon families. After the war, some went to Israel, England and my grandparents (with my father, aunt and others) to San Francisco where many of us remain. A distant relative who shares our first/last name resides in Vancouver (a physician), another who is no relation in Michgan (a teacher).

Hello! I am a direct descendant of a line of Ezekiel's in Alabama. Specifically, Coosa Co., Alabama! I have lived here all my life and my Ezekiel ancestors date back to 1850 in Coosa Co., AL.

My grandfather is Curtis Ezekiel born 1933 AL (son of Homer Ezekiel & Rushie Leonora Varner). Homer's parents were Rufus A. Ezekiel & Flora Elizabeth Hammonds. His parents were Thomas Ezekiel & Martha Emily (Baxley) Guy. And lastly, his parents were Alexander & Ann Ezekiel.

Alexander and Ann Ezekiel were born in South Carolina and migrated to Alabama by way of Georgia.

Coosa County is full of Ezekiel's. If I can help anyone, please let me know. My e-mail is mcdonald6025@bellsouth.net

I'm searching for more info on my g-g-g-g-g-grandfather Alexander Ezekiel [White/Caucasian]. I found him and his children in the 1850 US Federal Census: State: Alabama County: Coosa District: Hatchett Creek Dwelling/House: 341

Alexander Ezekiel, 32 year old male, a ferryman, born in South Carolina [dob: 1818]
[Wife] Ann Unknown, 32 year old female [dob: 1818]
[Child] Wiley, 12 years of age, born in South Carolina [dob: 1838]
[Child] Thomas, 10 years of age [dob: 1840] [my g-g-g-g-grandfather]
[Child] Malinda, 7years of age, born in South Carolina [dob: 1843]
[Child] Pegganumna, 5 years of age, born in Georgia [dob: 1845]
[Child] Bridget, 3 years of age, born in Alabama [dob: 1847]
{Child] Pungyow, 4 months of age [dob: 1850 prob. born the month of July in Alabama]

I copied the childrens names exactly the way they appeared on the census. WHAT SOME WIERD NAMES! This is the extent of my knowledge concerning the names mentioned with exception of Thomas Ezekiel.

Thomas Ezekiel was born 6 Jan 1840 and died Apr 1926. He is buried with his wife, Martha Emily Baxley, in the Baxley Family Cemetery located between Marble Valley and Unity, Coosa Co., Alabama. Martha Emily Baxley is the widow of Samuel Joseph Guy and dau. of William Pressley Baxley, Sr. and Mary Ann "Polly" Morris.

Children of Thomas and Martha Ezekiel (not in order of birth): Henry B., John, Rufus A., Nannie Ann, James Columbus.

I would be grateful to hear from someone with more information beyond Thomas Ezekiel. And I will share all my info from Thomas and his decendants.

You may contact me through this board or by e-mailing rachelmcdonald1@charter.net.

Thanks a lot!!

William EZEKIEL, Johanna FEWER, Anna EKES, Ladislaus MAYER

Hi Sheri, I was delighted to see your messages for info. Try Uncle Bill Ezekiel. He has the original naturalization papers.
It lists everyone Aunt Grace, Ann, Rose & my dad John born in Camden, NJ. Your cousin Beth took a fact finding vacation to Newfoundland and confirms that it is full of Ezekiels & Fewers. My grandmom Anna Ekes Mayer arrived here 6-18-1901 at age 17. Her sister Theresia on 11-12-1901. Found info under "ellis island records". A Ladislav Mayer (spelling?) arrived 10-24-1905. States residence as Austria,Bohemia?
Very unsure of this one. Haven't found another yet.

Have you by any chance located a coat of arms or family crest for EZEKIEL? I've gone to Ancestry.com and have not been able to find anything,

We are now working on the bylaws and fundraisers. Do you have any suggestions?

I would like to email you the family address book when it is completed so that we can all stay in touch. We hope that you and the rest of the family will be able to attend the reunion. We'll send information as it becomes available.

You can contact me at either lclevela@devereux.org or lcleve73@yahoo.com.
EZEKIEL, EZECHIEL in England

Hello,

I'd be very interested if anyone had any information about the very few Ezekiel/Ezechiels in England.

My connection is that my great great grandfather was Isaac Ezechiel who lived in Plymouth, in Devon in the 1840's. I believe he may be related to two brothers (who possibly
came from Newfoundland??) and settled in England. their names were Solomon and Abraham Ezekiel. Despite the name my g g grandfather was, I believe, not Jewish but Catholic but I don't know much else about him or
the family or the name!

Absolutely any information would be cherished!!!
