Robert Greenberry Fain's place of death

Robert Greenberry Fain, my great grandfather, was born in Georgia in 1834 and died July 19, 1907 in Hubbard City, Hill County, Texas and is buried in the Fairmont Cemetery, Hubbard, Hill County, Texas, as is my great grandmother, Frances Lipscomb Fain. See the Find-a-Grave website for photo of their information and photo of their gravemarker. This information is to correct information appearing on many online family trees which erroneously state he died in Chillicothe, Hardeman County, Texas. My greatgrandfather had a first cousin, Robert Green Berry Fain, who lived in Chillicothe, Hardeman County, Texas and who is buried in Hardeman County, as is wife Ann McConnell Fain. This information can also be viewed at the Find-a-Grave website. Elva Fain Bizzell/Odis S. Fain/ William B. Fain/ Robert Greenberry Fain/ Greenberry Fain

My great grandfather, John Carden, married a much younger woman, Maude Fain, after my greatgrandmother died. They are both buried in Eastaboga Baptist Church Cemetery. Have never visited the grave sites but have been trying very hard to find out some info. Would this be your Fains?

This may be my second post, something happened to the first right in the middle of typing, it just disappeared. My Fain line out of Lewis County, TN married into the Skelton family in 1915 which is much later than yours. I can send you a FGS on the family if you want, but not sure it is the same or if it is, it is later generations. Also, my information is posted on Rootsweb.com under database markfain.

Mark

On Syntha Skelton Fains tombstone the plate reads "Syntha Skelton Fain born 9/18/09 died 5/14/97. They are in my tree Ga,Al,Ar,Ms Fain Family tree. Would love to know if you have any info about this line. thanks Allan Fain in Kingsport TN

They are buried in the Estaboga Baptist Church Cemetary just off of I-20 east of Birminham Al. Does anyone know who placed these plates on their graves? Does anyone have any additional information on the Father/Mother of Middleton Fain?

Hello Cathleen,

I'll try a third time to get this sent to you. In a nutshell, here's my email address: kmcltc@comcast.net. I tried responding twice already, but both times when I went to "preview" my note to you, it disappeared so I don't know whether it "posted" or just went into the land of computer poof. If this is a third reply, please forgive me. As I said, the new Ancestry format and I do not always get along.

Thank you for the information on Robert. I must admit the "Mitchell" has me confused because all the rest of the boys had the middle initial of "N." When looking through records for Coles and Clark counties, I wondered if there were two Robert Youngs -- one with a middle initial of "M" and another with the initial "N" or if there was only one but the records had been mis-transcribed. Your Gr-gr-gr-gr grandfather's obituary had Robert's middle initial as "N" and he was living in Sidell at the time of John's death November 29, 1911. I did find those same marriage records for Robert, but the similarity of the wives names threw me off a bit too. Thanks for the clarification.

I would love to see the picture. If Mom were still alive, she certainly would have been able to identify all of them, but I'll do my best to shed some light on it. By the way, my mom's maiden name was Mitchell.

I hope you all fared well through the disastrous weather in the midwest this year and that all of you are well. Please keep in touch.

K.

Sorry I am just getting back to you. The info I am finding is a little confusing. Robert Young spent his life in Coles and Clark counties. 1850 he lived with Wm and Jame Lee family in Clark Co. Married Mary Walker 1860 and had 2 children John, Charles. 1867 married Marena Walker Lowery, I think she was Marys sister, had 3 childred Chancy, Bertha, Mary. On Chancy's birth cert Robert is listed as Robert Mitchell Young. Robert lived in Coles Co until his Death aft 1910? I am still looking for his death and burial. I did get a Pioneer Cert from the Coles Co Gen
Society as Wm Fain and family were some of first settlers there. I do have a picture of some of the Young famil who moved West but I dont know their names. I would like to send it to you to see if you know any of them. Please send me your E-mail and I will get the picture to you. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Hi Judy,
My name is Yvone Fain Euman. I know there are a lot of "Richard Fains". Do you by chance have an Arthur C.(Charles) Fain in your tree? Arthur C. Fain had a son named Richard,that was born (abt 1848) in Ky. Arthur C's father's name was also Richard;
If any of this meshes with your information please contact me here thru Ancestry.

Cordialy,
Yvonne

Re: William Fain Young

Thank you so much for your response. I've been looking for someone in John's line for a very long time. I have just re-subscribed to Ancestry and am not familiar with it's "new look" so it will take some time to get used to it. I think I preferred the old format better, so please bear with me as I try to navigate around in it.

My line is William Newton Young -- John's next younger brother. He married Nancy Ann Sublett Young in 1859 in Coles Co., and they followed George and Isreal (Mom always knew him as "Kay") to Oregon in 1876 after Peter Sublett (Nancy Ann's Sublett Young's father) died in Coles Co., Illinois in May 1875. I have the telegram sent to Newt while he was at John's (in Cerro Gordo) telling him of Peter's death -- that was the beginning of my genealogical research on this family. My line is William Newton Young, to George Ann Elizabeth Young (Mitchell), to Melba Elizabeth Mitchell (Murray) to me.

Questions:

1. Where was John living and with whom in the 1850 census? George and Isreal were in Coles (on Robertson Reed's property); William was in Clark Co. with the Abner Hires (or Hines) family; Robert was either in Pike or Clark Co.; Valentine was in Salisbury, Coles Co. with the William Lee family. I've not been able to definitively find John -- too many John Youngs everywhere.

2. Do you know the middle names of the brothers? All had the middle initial of "N." I have seen records for John and Isreal giving their middle name as Nichols -- their mother's maiden name. William was the odd one -- his middle name was Newton and he was definitely a brother. I have not seen anything with a full name for George, Robert, or Valentine (if he was indeed a brother) -- only a middle initial of "N."

3. I know what happened to Valentine but Robert is a mystery. He and my great-grandfather were members of the Masonic Lodge in Westfield, Illinois when they were young men and he was mentioned in your great-great-grandfather's obituary as living in Sidell, Illinois at that time. Do you know anything of him? Marriage? Children?

4. Any idea how Isreal (the youngest brother) got the nickname "Kay?" We never knew his given name until Mom and I started doing the family research. Mom and her generation always knew him firsthand as "Uncle Kay." It wasn't until we went to Richland City Hall we found an "I. N. Young" and the lady there thought we were nuts (if we were truly family!) for not knowing "Kay" WAS "I. N. Young." We had a good laugh about it.

5. Any idea how and where William Fain and Nancy Ann Nichols Young died and where they are buried? Did they have any other children? Daughters?

I've been doing this Young family's research for over 10 years but have
consistently reached a brick wall at William Fain Young. At this point I have fairly extensive documentation of several generations, most sourced for easy duplication by other researchers, When I can figure out how to effectively use Ancestry's tree format, I will post it for others to take a look at. Hopefully in that way, I can eventually find someone who knows something about William Fain Young and some mysteries can be answered for us.

Thanks again for responding.

Kathy

So very glad to hear from you. I have been working on my genealogy for the last year or so and it has become an obsession. It sounds like you have the same information I have. I am sorry to say I dont have much new info to share. I am from John Nichols Young, and then his son Charles. Charles had seven children, his second son Joe was my Grandfather. Joe had only one son Robert Alan Young,my father. I am on Ancestry.com or I would be glad to give you the information I have on Charles family. I have a nice picture(also on Ancestry.com) of all of them if you would like it. Please let me know of any new info you may get and I will do the same.

Re: William Fain Young

Thank you for this post! WILLIAM FAIN YOUNG is my gr-gr-grandfather and I've been looking for information on him for years. Hopefully we've got the mutually correct William Fain Young and we can fill in the gaps on both sides of his history. I have descendancy after his marriage to Nancyan/Nancy Ann Nichaels in Clark Co., Illinois on July 30 1829.

What I grew up knowing about him was his full name and that he and his wife died when their four sons were young boys. Three of the sons migrated west to Eastern Oregon; George and Isreal in 1863 and William Newton "Newt" in 1876. George raised Isreal. We were always told the orphaned boys "grew up in an orphanage" but the truth of the records is they were farmed out to various other households, but Isreal ("Kay") stayed with George, the oldest. My great-grandmother's Bible, since thrown away but observed and noted by two of my cousins, had the handwritten name of "Mary Ann Fain" in it on the first page. We always assumed it was William Fain's mother's name but have never been able to prove it.

Several of the subsequent census records for the adult sons gives their father's birthplace as Michigan but the only definitive record I have for him is the 1829 marriage record in Illinois. I do, however, have very complete information on four of his sons: George N. Young; John Nichols Young; William Newton Young (my line), and Isreal N. Young.

John Nichols Young lived his entire life in Illinois and died in Piatt County, Illinois in 1911. From his obituary we learned of another brother, Robert N. Young (whom I've not been able to find as an adult -- even with the location information in the obituary). Valentine/Volentine Young is probably another brother -- for years I kept track of him thinking he was possibly a cousin -- who died of disease in the Civil War on the march to Vicksburg. The other three, George N., William Newton, and Isreal all went to Oregon and were farmers.

Obviously I could welcome further investigation of this possible connection.

Buena is actually my great grandmother. Is Nicholas your great grandfather? I have had quite a time trying to tracr this line. I know Buena's mother was Victoria. I have found where she used the name Fain and also the name Sulivan. It was my understanding that Mourning Sulivan was Victoria's mother and George Gammon Fain was her father and they were never married. However, I found a census from with Mourning Sulivan and Victoria Sulivan that states Mourning was a widower. SO I am not sure. I have not been able to locate any information regarding Buena or Nicholas' father. Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, I have been reseraching this family line for what seems like forever and keep hitting a brick wall. So does that make us 4th or 5th cousins or something? anyway, looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks
Micki

John H Fain posted on Geneology.com several years ago that they were the grandson of Edgar Lewis Fain and were wanting info on Thomas Baker Fain. If you know John please tell him I have tons of info in Thomas B. Fain if he is still interested, but I am missing the connection of who Thomas' parents are.

Thanks.

Sorry, I clicked post before I was finished; the other two children for Thomas and Rebecca were Leona born about 1874 and
Baby Boy born abt 1879. My husband's sister was married to a
grandson of Edgar Louis Fain. We will be at her house in the next few days and if possible I will ask one of her sons if he
has more information.
