Someone in the family had run the tree many years ago and said that Daniel was married to Mary Ellen Fairfield but I am not finding any information on this at all so I think it may be an error. My great grandfather was Royal Addison Desmond who married Mary Oswald Wilson from Scotland. Royal was from Massachusetts - they had my grandfather Leroy Addison Desmond. Supposedly, Mary Ellen Fairfield was Royal's mother but I can not find anything about that. What is interesting is that my grandfather, Leroy, had an older brother named Charles, which makes me wonder if Charles, not Daniel, was their father. I would love to find the missing link. My direct email is moonreadings@aol.com - thanks.........Lisa

Hi Anne,
No I am not a member of Ancestry.com. I found you on rootsweb.com message board! Therefore, I cannot access your Calder-Bennett family tree. I don't have a photo of my Ellen and there are no relations living who would have her in their album.
Fairfiled James occupation - Labourer - on Ellen Jnrs marriage cert (father's occupation)
I'm working on searches for Donovan and Fairfield, so please don't think that I've gone away from you if you don't hear from me for a while. I will be happy to furnish you with any info I come up with. I've found some Donovans in Wicklow in the 1800s but haven't linked them with us as yet.
Questions:
Do you know anything about Robert Fairfield (James & Ellen's son?) Since he was the only male born to them - he should be easy to trace.
Is your other contact from Ireland?
Do you know of a public address i.e. local radio station, town hall etc. near you, to where I could post you my details? I could send to you C/o.
Since you are my blood relative, it would be nice to contact you privately.
Bye for now Cousin Anne,
Veronica

Hi Veronica,

Are you a member of Ancestry.com? I have a public tree on Ancestry called the Calder-Bennett Family tree. You will be able to see Bridget Fairfield's children in Australia there. Yes, we do share the same ggg grandmother, Ellen Donovan. I have an ancestry contact who, like you, is descended from Ellen Fairfield, b. 1842. He is also keen to hear from you. We've both reached a brick wall with Ellen Donovan and James Fairfield. Do you know anything about James Fairfield of Wicklow? I joined rootsireland about a year ago and worked out from the baptism certificates of all the Fairfield children born to Ellen and James that Ellen snr must have been a Donovan because the witnesses were just about all Donovans, including an Ellen Donovan. Then my contact asked a friend in Ireland to check the parish records and there it was! I also think that James and Ellen Fairfield snr lived or worked apart in or near Avoca (from the information on Griffith's Valuation). I would be over the moon if you knew anything more about James and Ellen and would like to share it with me. Do you by any chance have a picture of your Ellen? Unfortunately I don't have one of Bridget but from what I've heard, both sisters were beautiful. I am very interested in both the Donovans and the Fairfields and would like to trace them back as far as possible. I have left them for about a year because of the brick wall so I'm glad that you've come online. Perhaps together we can find out more about the Fairfields and Donovans of Avoca.
Regards,
Anne

Hi Anne,

Ellen Fairfield married William Doyle in Wicklow 1865, they had 9 children, a couple of them were born in Wicklow. They moved to Dublin later and had the rest of the children - one was John Doyle who later became my Grandfather (my mother's father). I didn't know until recently that Ellen's maiden name was Donovan, so I'm at an early stage in tracing Dovonan. Ellen Donovan's parents names are not on her marriage cert. The witnesses may me her brother and sister-in-law.
Lots of Donovans from every county in Ireland. I found one so far in Wicklow. Buried in St. Paul's Church of Ireland cemetery Wicklow "Mrs Mary Donovan Jan 1818 aged 70". She may not be one of ours!If you would like to have details of Ellen Fairfield's children, let me know. Do you have I share the same GGG grandmother, Ellen Donovan, so - wow!
Bye for now from way over here to way over there,
Veronica

Mine goes Enoch - James - Mary Ellen (some have her listed as Ellen which is incorrect) - I am having problems finding out anything much about Mary Ellen - she married my grandfather Daniel Desmond, whom I can find nothing about - Being of straight English bloodlines, I am sure it did not go over well when Mary Ellen married an Irishman.....lol

How are you related to John King Fairfield Sharp? I am related through his daughter Alice, then through Alice and Amos' daughter Ida, then through Ida's daughter Elsie.

Then name Ripley comes into the family through Alice's grandmother, on her mother's side, who was Elizabeth Ripley.

As for the name Hollingshead, the only connection I can make is that one of William's (William and Abigail) sisters, Mary, married Isaac Hollingshead, and another sister, Anne, married William Hollingshead. Which would make them Amos' great Uncles.

Do you have any info on William's mother? My info says she was Hannah Edwards daughter of Captain Robert Edwards of NY but I can't verify that. I wonder if she was actually Hannah Owens.
Heather

We are descendants of the same John King Fairfield Sharp and I too think this is very likely, in some way or another. We know that his father Gilbert P Sharp was born in Ernestown... which I've heard had other Sharps, as did Bath and Adolphustown.

It stands to reason that since that family stuck pretty close to the Prince Edward/Hastings counties almost their entire lives (Frankford, Picton, Sidney, Tweed) and since this is a family that tends to honour family members by using their last names as middle names, there was a Fairfield among us at one point.

JKF Sharp's daughter Alice named her son Walter Fairfield. And Ripley is another family name that pops up as a middle name every generation or so. For this reason I also think Amos Hollingshead Hill was named after a relative that had the last name Hollingshead. It seems too odd otherwise. And it's just too much of a coincidence that there were other Hollingsheads residing near them in the 1871 census.

It would be great if we could uncover that missing link.

I have just read your message and my reply from several years ago. Now I find Henry "Billings" Fairfield, who went from Ontario to Manitoba, in my database. He was son of Henry Fairfield who was born about 1806 and died suddenly in 1851 in Kingston, Kingston Twp., ON. and Elizabeth Losee born in 1813 in Gosham, N.Y. and died 21 Mar, 1899. Elizabeth was daughter of Joseph Losee b. 1790 and Eleanor/Eliner Ackerman born 1790. Henry 's father was Jonathan b 1780 and mother was Charity Ryder b 1778. Jonathan's father was William Fairfield and his mother Abigail BAKER.
Henry " Billings" Fairfield was born abt 1842 in Canada West (Ontario) visited Bath ON in Dec. 1881 and died in Canton, Ohio. He married Bessie LAMUNERS. Apparently Billings and Bessie had a daughter who married Charles Begnell, son of William.

Yes, your father is a descendant of John Fairfield of Wenham, according to documentation provided to me by another Fairfield researcher. You can view the lineage on my website at www.fairfieldfamily.com. Click on the database page link, and then on "take me to the database" link. Once there, you can do a search for James Clifford Fairfield and scroll to see the connection. If you want to add data to your branch, please email me separately at goodshep6@juno.com. Thanks. Connie Fairfield Ganz.

Jacob Fox's Connections to Dan Blackman, Jonathan Loomis, & Isaiah Duggett

Hi Martin:

I am descended from Jacob Fox, born 28 Aug 1755, Glastonbury, CT, and his wife Mary [ ], born 1757-1758.

On 9 Oct 1779, Jacob Fox and Jonathan Loomis, of Coventry, bought land in Bernardston, Hampshire Co., MA, from William Newcomb. Jonathan Loomis was married to Martha Blackman, sister of Dan Blackman.

On 13 Sep 1786, Dan Blackman, of Hebron, and Jacob Fox, of Bolton, sold land in Bernardston, MA, to David Rider.

Jacob Fox, of Coventry, was a substitute for Isaiah Duggett in the Revolutionary War, which may imply another connection.

I see gaps in various family group sheets and suspect that Mary, the wife of Jacob Fox, was a Blackman or Loomis--even possibly a Duggett. Do you have any evidence for or thoughts about this?

Thank you.

Ted L. Bartlett

The two Revolutionary War patriots are Dan Blackman and Nathaniel Fairfield, Ruth's father. If you ever wanted to join the DAR, these are well documented.I think you have more on the Gray line, too. Same goes for the Mayflower Society; you would only document down from Betsey...

Here's the Nebraska Society website:

www.NebraskaMayflower.org

No, I was wondering, but I was not aware. Who was the ancestor on the Mayflower?

Betsey's name was on the online list I found for Floyd Cemetery, but Joseph's was not. When the assistant town clerk went to take pictures of the headstones for me, she uncovered Joseph's stone. It had fallen over and was covered up. Perhaps that has happened to other stones as well.

BTW, happy anniversary, cousin!!

The "Gray" here in Omaha is a great-great-great-grandson of Betsey and Joseph, through their daughter, Harriet Caroline Gray. My line is through Betsey's brother, Nathaniel.

My wife and I visited the Floyd Cemetery in 1989--actually today, Oct. 19, 1989 (I remeber because it was our 5th wedding anniversary). The color there was really beautiful.

It was disappointing, however, that there weren't more stones. This is likely where Dan and Ruth are buried, but if there ever were stones, they're long gone.

Are you aware this is a Mayflower line?

Hello! Lots going on here today but just took a quick peek at your website which is beautiful! It goes to my grandfather William Henry Gray who married Sarah Edith Dickinson in 1901. What you may not know is that they had two children, Florence Ethel Gray b.6-19-1902 d.11-2-1981 (never married) and Carrie Muriel(Meg)Gray b. 7-9-1907 d.9-6-1983. Meg married Albert Pierre Burleaud 7-9-1933. They had two children, Pierre Henri Burleaud b.11-3-1939 d. 2-20-1964 (never married) and myself. I married and am the last living connection to the William Henry Gray line except for my two children (both unmarried at this time). As I am just beginning my search so I'm not sure which relatives are still living. I found one cousin on the Dickinson side but none yet on the Gray side. We seem to have lost touch with the relatives from Wisconsin. Truly I was not expecting such a quick response from such an old message. Is it a Gray who lives in Omaha?
Hello Cousin! Dan did marry second, Elizabeth -----, probably a widow. From his pension application, we know he was married to Elizabeth before 8 Sep 1820 and that she owned property in Oneida County. The children's births were all registered in Pittsfield, and this marriage likely took place in or near Floyd, so Ruth is the likely mother of all. I have her death as after Eleazer's birth, 16 Mar 1801 and before the Sep 1820 date, probably in Floyd, as the death isn't registered in Pittsfield. For more on the family, see my website:

http://ourfamilyancestry.net/getperson.php?personID=I1670&am...

Have you discovered other cousins on this line? I know another descendant of Joseph and Betsey who lives here in Omaha.

I have recently begun my family research and discovered that my great-great-grandmother is Elizabeth "Betsey" Blackman married to Joseph Gray. I learned she was the daughter of Dan Blackman and Ruth Fairfield. I'm coming in late but do you have any more information about a second marriage for Dan Blackman or do you think that Ruth was the mother of all eight children?

I am responding because my 2nd great grandfather Henry Fairfield b 1780 was living in Grimsby, Canada West (now Ontario) when my grandfather Abraham Matthew Fairfield was born in 1824. Census data of the children show Henry being born in Ireland. DNA testing shows a close relationship with the Wenham family but we can find no branch with a Henry or any other relationship with Ireland. Is it possible that your research could help make a connection? I would be happy to share what data I have if it would be of interest to you.
Jim

Parents are Henry (perhaps John H) and Barbara Fairfield. Henry b. abt 1783 in Ireland. Barbara b. abt 1798 in Pennsylvania. 6 or 7 children of record, b. in or near Grimsby, Ontario. Data came from Grimsby Archives. It is from what they call a "Super Census" with the 1861 Canadian Census as the base. This census is not digitized.

Could John H be John Henry?

I have been unable to learn Barbara's maiden name.

I am also now looking for the parents of Henry.
