I am just wondering if you found your Fanning ancestors. Nathaniel Eugene Fanning was my grandfather's brother's son. My grandfather was Walter Nathaniel Fanning and I believe we share a great-grandfather, Richard Harrison Fanning, Sr. Do you know anything about him? I am currently trying to find more information about HIS father, Jacob Fanning and mother, Lucinda Fanning.

Daniel was my great grandfather. he had 10 siblings, buist sr,lawerence, curtis to name a few. Buist jr and wife are both dead. The children are spread out 4 are in charleston still

Shella J. Ash, 54, of Joplin died Friday at St. John's Regional Medical Center after several months of ill health. Mrs. Ash was born on February 27, 1929 in Joplin. She had been employed at Hornaday's Department Store. She married James R. Ash on February 1, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Gregg Ash of Neosho; two daughters, Dianne West and Stacy Miller, both of Joplin; her mother, Hazel Fanning of Joplin; a brother, Irlie "Doc" Fanning of Joplin; a sister, Betty Purcell of Murray, Kentucky; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary with Rev. Gene Hutchcraft officiating. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Kidney Foundation.

Bingo! I am the daughter of Walter Fanning who was first cousin of Nathaniel Eugene Fanning. He called Nathaniel "Ignats." We have a couple old photos of Nathaniel when he was a baby (taken in Alaska, I believe). I am in contact with Diana Fanning. So that means you and I are second cousins, I think.

Jacob Harry Fanning

Several people have copied my photo of Jacob Harry Fanning 1834-b. Tenn., to their family trees, but this is incorrect. There were two Jacob Fannings. Mine was married to Lucinda Fanning (I don't know where some got the Lucinda "Catherine" Fanning). Mine was born to Thomas Fanning and his wife Jane Swadley in Tenn. in 1933 or 34. He was not a soldier and did not join Company K. the 42nd. Missouri Infantry. We do not know when he died. He is listed on his father-in-law's will in 1866. He may have been a civilian prisoner of war at Alton Prison in Illinois, escaping in 1865.

The other Jacob Fanning was born in Illinois, had red hair and blue eyes and married Catherine Hamlin in 1851 in Sullivan Co., MO. He was a soldier in Company K, 42nd Missouri Infantry. He died at Ft. Donelson in 1865 of measles.

The photo, while admittedly a great photo, is not of Jacob Fanning, the soldier. This photo came directly down the family line from father to son in my family. I am open to correction as I have not yet found where and how "my" Jacob died.

There is also, in the archives, a copy of an undated petition for a pardon of Jacob Fanning by the citizens of Dade County. I do not know to which Jacob this petition refers. Any help would be appreciated.

1947 Twins

My name is Gina Withrow and I am looking for my father's biological family. My father passed in 1981.
In 1947 my father and his twin sister were put up for adoption for unknown reasons. In talking with several people I have come to find that the twins fathers last name is Fanning. The twins were born at Chase County Hospital and delivered by a Dr Smith. I also know that my father visited the Fanning farm in 1965 (without the families knowledge) the family owned a crop dusting plan and resides in Imperial, Nebraska. I also know that the twins aunt (mothers sister/ name unknown) worked as a beauty operation in Wauneta. If you have any information at all please contact me. I have a family of my own and I am simply trying to put together a family tree. It would be nice to complete it.

William Loving Fanning, son of Middleton, Jr. had a daughter named Sarah D Fanning. Middleton Fanning, Sr. did not have a daughter named Sarah, as far as I can tell.

If you could send a little more information such as location,
approx. dates, etc., it might help locate your Sarah Abegail
Fanning.

That is funny! My grandmother was a Fanning and her son (my dad) ended up about 20 miles south of San Francisco (San Mateo County). My guess is that if we were to compare names back further we'd find a match! If you would like, email me directly and we can continue our correspondence!

My Nathan Fannings (two of them) were from the 1700's and 1800's)My branch of the Fannings came to California from Arkansas and settled in Southern California. My grandmother, Lora Fanning, ended up in Chico, California (Northern Calif).

My mother is Valerie Fanning and her sisters are Karen and Diana Fanning. Their dad was Nathaniel Fanning. I'm a Johnson, only because that is what is on my birth certificate (my biological father was Billy Don Johnson), but by rights I'm a Fanning too.
All originating from California, now all over the place.
I know nothing of my family. I'm not sure if any of them are left.
Does anyone know of any of us?

Mrs Fanning and son are spending the week with her mother, Mrs Lewis Ackles.

5/12/1910 Mr and Mrs Sherman Fanning and little child of Horseheads, NY spent Sunday with their parents, Mr and Mrs Lewis Ackles and presented Mr Ackles with a beautiful Morris chair as a birthday gift.

Lewis Ackles got filled up a little too full of the stuff which makes a man make a fool of himself, Tuesday night and concluded he'd go to the entertainment in Fisher's Opera House. He was a little too talkative there and was put out, and when out in front of the drug store got headed in the wrong direction and landed into one of the big windows breadking out the glass. Mr. Fisher had a warrant sworn out for his arrest yesterday morning and he was brought before Justice Clark, where he pleaded guilty and was willing to settle. Mr. Fisher said his bill would be one dollar, the constable and justice's bill was $2.50 making $3.50 in all, which was paid. Hence his little spree cost him three days work. He is not the only one however, who should be brought up for being drunk and disorderly, and it would be a satisfaction to the majority of the people here to have them thus dealt with. 16 DEC 1897

I told Mitzi that I tend to believe the family of Henry Fanning (b. 1836 in Tn.) of Henderson Co., Tn. appears to be related to Edmund Fanning, Irish Emigrant to Conn. in 1653.

also the Children of AJ Fanning listed as Laura Bernice Fanning & Mary Beatrice Fanning were not the Children of AJ & Ellen Luker....they were the Children of AJ & Maud Madlyn Voss...my Mother was Mary Beatrice Fanning...

I am trying to locate any information on this family and it's ancestors. William b.1855 in CT, d. 4 Aug 1920 in Orange, CT. He married Julia Ann Hayes b. 4 Apr 1861 in Ireland d. 13 May 1932 in CT on 17 Apr 1881 at St Patrick's in New Haven, CT. They had 5 children that I know of: John b. 1882 d. 1912 circus performer, then aeronaut; William b. 1885 d. 1963; Ellen (Nellie) b. 1887 d. 1964, seamstress; Robert b. 1891 d. 1956; Stephen b. 1896 d. 1968.

Only William, Jr and Stephen married.

The family owned the Fanning Brothers Dairy on Meloy Road in Orange, CT.

I believe William, Sr. may have been the son of Jeffrey Fanning and Mary Butler. They lived in Northford, CT. I have no further information and need to verify this connection and hopefully connect with other members of this family.

You can find digital pdf copies of it at google books. You may be able to find the info you want without buying it. you can also buy copies of it from amazon.com. They have a few 2007 copies left to buy.

Does anyone have these books by Walter Brooks that can look up someone for me? I have them, but they are the original 1905 copies that were passed down, and I'm trying not to handle them too much. I'm looking for William Fanning b. abt 1861 in Canada. His parents were Daniel and Jane. I looked a little, but there are so many Williams. The books were passed down from him, so I am assuming that it's the right family line, but I want to be sure.
