I do not have much info on the Matthew Farmer who died in Miami County, Ohio. My Matthew Farmer (my GGGG grandfather) died in St. Charles County in the yr 1834.

But there has been quite a bit of a mix up between my Matthew and the Miami County Matthew and some of the info from my Matthew has been attributed to the Miami Matthew. I would encourage you to try to find the parents of the Miami County Matthew. I have a hunch he might be an uncle or cousin to my Matthew.

The father of my Matthew was Frederick (b. about 1710) and Frederick's father was John (b. about 168?)

Jim Farmer,
Florissant, Mo
farmerfamilytree1@yahoo.com

Donna, You described my Grandparents place to a tee. Oh, how I miss it! It was nice and cool up there. We used to sit on the huge rocks and watch the traffic below. We went to the river on the other side and swung across on vines that hung from the trees.
Grandmother Jackson was a seamstress. She sewed for schools, restaurants, us and a mens suit store. She sewed till the wee hours of the night. She was an amazing woman. Sweet and gentle and she remembered hymns her mother taught her before she went totally deaf. Grandpa Jackson wouldn't let grass grow around the house. He hated ants. He walked everywhere. I think he lived to see 94. Most people called Grandmother "Ruth". They were 11 years apart in age. G-pa was 35 when he married her. She was tall. G-pa was not a large man. He was a carpenter.
Uncle Don and his wife Aunt Margaret have two daughters, Donna, Paula and a son Frank, live in Spartanburg,SC.

MY name is Jinnee Tamara Nalley Parr. My Grandmother Harriett Ruth Farmer married Alfred Franklin Jackson. Grandmother went deaf by the age of 7. She still has 3 living children. Darlington - known as Uncle Don, Aunt Dessie, and my mother who is Harriett Frances Jackson Nalley turned 90 in September of 2011. I am 60 and have been reading post all day long. I am glued to this ancestry stuff. Ha,ha! EJFager is my 4th born and youngest daughter from a second marriage. She got me hooked on this.
I have a picture of Edgar Marvin Farmer. He looks like my oldest brother Levis Francis Nalley whom we call "Skeeter" or "Skeet". Edgar was one hunk of a handsome man. I am not sure but I think he is my Great Uncle.
I think Mark/Markus and Mollie Farmer are my Grandparents on Grandmother's side? I am thrilled to remember and recognize these names. I am the 7th child of 9 to Levis LeRoy Nalley and Harriet Frances Farmer Jackson. I would love to see pictures of my Farmer Grandparents. This ancestry stuff is my mother's day present from Emily Jinnee Fager who turned 22 as of March 15th, born 1990. . . a babe. I see this is an old post. I hope you get this soon.

Bonaparte & Thomas Farmer

Bonaparte Farmer(b VA 1799 - d. Caldwell, TX FEB 1875), my GGG Grandfather was a bootmaker by trade. He and his wife Phebe Brown Farmer were born in Virginia, and likely spent most of that time there in Caroline County. His name appears with other Farmer surnames in the '30 & 40' census', with a Reuben possible being his father or uncle. They left VA with their 4 sons in 1854 and came to Caldwell, Burleson County, TX, where he continued to live his life in service to his Lord Jesus Christ, active at Dove Baptist Church. His oldest son Thomas (b Caroline Co VA 1828 - d. Caldwell TX 27 Jun 1905), my GG Grandfather was also a shoemaker. He married Mary E Broaddus Smoot (a widow) on 25 Sep 1955 and they raised 4 girls together, Lelia E. Smoot, Georgia Anne Smoot, Julia Bell Smoot, and Alma Farmer (1860-1946), who married Gwilym Eynon James (my G Grandfather). These were Godly men as well. I would love any information on this family line, and I am so far unable to get past Bonaparte Farmer. Henry C. Smoot died just prior to or even possibly during the 1854 Wagon Train led by Andrew Sidney Broaddus from Virginia to Texas.

Hi, Does anyone have a 'Frank Farmer,' born about September, 1900 in Staff/Birmingham area, on their tree?

Family might know his mother as, Maria, and half-brother as William.

He served in the Army or Navy in WW1 and lived in the Sparkbrook area of Birmingham.

It is believed that Frank emigrated to Australia and ran a sheep farming business. This may/may not be right.

Would love to hear from anyone with a connection/ information about Frank. I have a lovely picture of him as a very little boy about 2/3, which I'm sure his family would like too.

Many thanks, Sarah

Skidmore Farmer b. 1906

I am searching for the birth parents of my grandfather. My grandfathers name was Skidmore Farmer. He was raised by his "uncle" Timothy Asher (Harlan KY) and Timothy's wife Susan. It is said that one of Timothy's sisters was the mother of Skidmore but I have not ran into anything substantial. The earliest source I have found in regards to my grandfathers existence is the 1910 Fed Census which shows he was 4yrs old and already living with Timothy. Based on the name "Skidmore Farmer" I would assume that somewhere along the line his father was a Farmer surname and a possible Skidmore descendant. Maybe his father had a mother with the Skidmore surname. I have searched and ran across a couple men living in that area around the same time period. A John Skidmore Farmer, and a Carter Skidmore Farmer. John Skidmore Farmer was married to a Sarah, and Timothy had a sister named Sarah but I can't seem to link the two. It looks like they have two different birth dates.

If anyone can give me any information regarding my grandfather or his birth parents I would be eternally grateful.

Regards,

Maurice

Have you learned anything further about the Mathew Farmer who married Margarete? I have been looking at a Mathew Farmer in Shenandoah County, Va records from 1783-1790 (records I have located so far). There was a John Farmer who married a Sarah Hanson there in 1798, who may be Matthew's son.

I am interested in the Mathew who died in Miami County, Ohio in 1835, and I'm thinking this Shenandoah County location makes sense based on other family information. What do you think?

Janice in Indiana

Benjamin Farmer who married Rebecca Minot

Has anyone found original source information connecting Benjamin Famer who married Rebecca Minot to Thomas Farmer and Elizabeth Hunt? The only source I have managed to find so far that Benjamin is a son of Thomas and Rebecca is a mention in the Genealogical dictionary of the First Settlers of New England by Savage. However. It's a book. And books, even old books, can be wrong. The vital records of Billerica online don't list Benjamin.

Shadrack G Farmer, born 1812

Time line for Shadrack G Farmer
Birth Year: abt 1812
Birthplace: Georgia
Married Temperance (Tempy) Rice
Marriage Date: 15 Oct 1848.
Shadrack was abt. age 36. (If Tempy was born in 1838 then she married age 10, might have been close to 11 when they married)
Marriage Place: Newton ,Georgia
In 1850 according to the US Federal Census Shadrack Farmer was 38
years on which confirms his Birth Year: abt 1812
His home in 1850 (US Federal Census of 1950) was in Newton, Georgia the same place of the marrage in 1848.
However, the 1950 Census records the household as Shadrach Farmer 38; Simpey Farmer age 20 and a daughter Sara Farmer age 1. When I look at the written Census it is clear to me that the “S” is really a “T” and therefore the name is Timpey or Tempy Farmer as the wife of Shadrack in Newton, Georgia..
Still yet is her recorded age of “20” cannot be correct. Tempy was abt. age 12 in 1950. If she was 20 she was born abt 1930. Both the 1870 census and the 1880 census confirm Tempy’s birth abt. 1838. Therefore, Tempy was abt. age 11 when Sara was born..
Sharrack joins the Confederate Army: 2 Nov 1862; record shows he survived the War. However it does appear he died few years later.
With Sara born in 1848 or 1849 and Nathan born in 1950 there was a six years before Mary E Farmer was born in abt.1856; Sylvester Farmer in 1860; Elizabeth in abt. 1862; John W Farmer abt.1865; Emma abt.1866; and Perlina 1869. Note that Elizabeth was born at the beginning of war and John W at the end of the war years of 1862-1865.
Read On! In the 1870 Census Temperance (Tempy) is age 32 making her birth date abt 1838. Household listed: Tempy Farmer 32: Nathan Farmer 20 (Who was the son born in 1850 when Tempy was age 12); Mary E Farmer 13: Sylvester Farmer 10: Elizabeth S Farmer 8; John W (William) Farmer 5, born abt 1865 (Which is John Wheeler Farmer’s Father); Emma N Farmer 4; Perlina Farmer 1.
Note: Sara age 1 in 1950 was born when Tempy was age 11; Sara is not listed in the 1870 census; she would be abt. 21, and possible married?
Note: There is no mention of Shadrack G Farmer in the household in the 1870 census.
I first got the 1970 census by searching for John William Farmer; later I searched for the son Nathan Farmer and found the same info as stated above.
The final info obtained so far is from the 1880 US Federal Census. The information is under the name Tempy Farmer age 42 with her birth being abt.1838. Tempy’s census record shows she is still living in Newton, Georgia. She is listed as the head of the house (Widowed). Her Occupation: Farmer. Members of the household are:
Tempy Farmer 42; Vess Farmer 21; Bettie Farmer 18; John W. Farmer 15 (born abt. 1865); Emma Farmer 13; Pulina Farmer 10.
With Shadrack G Farmer not mention in the 1870 census when Perlina was age 1, then Shadrack’s death was abt. 1868 or 69. He would have been abt. age 56 or 57.

At this point, 3/19/2012 we have no other information.
Farmer -- Father: Albert Caney Farmer Sr b 1913 -- Father: Wesley Farmer b 1885 d 1966 in Richlands, Virginia.

I know that Wesley's 2nd wife was Susie, but that is not the one I would be related to. From what I have found, and keep in mind not sure how accurate this is, First wife was named Alice M. Have researched many false Farmer famillies in Birmingham, did come across 1 with Clara Farmer, in an 1871 census, Mother, Ellen (widow). Try Ancestry search for that, it may help.
Helen Mary Flanders Farmer, 98,Born in Ottawa, Canada .daughter of William and Jenny Flanders.

Helen Mary Flanders Farmer, 98,
died peacefully at her home in Erie, Pa.
on Tuesday evening January 24, 2012 with family by her side. Our mother had a full and interesting life. Born in Ottawa, Canada December 28, 1913, she was the daughter of William and Jenny Flanders. She grew up in Tupper Lake, N.Y. & graduated Valedictorian of her high school class in 1932. She went on to St. Lawrence University on a N.Y. Regents Scholarship. During her school breaks she waited tables at several of the large hotels in Lake Placid, including the 1932 Winter Olympics. Helen came to St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie as one of the first on-staff dietician, following her internship at Fordham University Hospital in New York City. In 1938, she married Robert W. Farmer, her high school sweetheart in Niagara Falls, N.Y. She is lovingly remembered by her two sons, William Tucker Farmer (Michelle) of Palatine, Ill. and Robert Joseph Farmer of Ukiah, California, three grandchildren Carrie, Mike and Will Jr. and eight great grandchildren. For approximately (20) years, Mrs. Farmer rented her (7) apartments at 2nd & Sassafras Street to many Gannon College students and young couples getting their start in Erie. She was also a member of the Erie County Historical Society and a leader in the restoration of the Anthony Wayne blockhouse near the Soldiers & Sailors Home. During her sons' school years, she was very active in scouting and Cathedral Prep fundraisers. Her main interests were in the education of and in advancing the social skills of her family, collecting antiques and lamps to decorate her home, picnics at Presque Isle St. Park, and travel trips across the U.S.A. and Canada including each summer to Tupper Lake, Saranac, and Lake Placid N.Y. to visit relatives. For many years, she and her husband Bob hosted family members and friends at their Tupper Lake summer residence on Racquette Pond. While there, she was instrumental in getting the Village to dedicate the A.B. Flanders Park on Martin Street in honor of her uncle, who owned a well known lumber finishing mill at that location. She was very proud of her Tupper Lake and Irish roots and is well remembered for her spunk and determination. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Friday February 3rd from 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. A funeral luncheon will follow, in her honor, at the Siebenbuerger Club.
Wish I had dates! But getting his name was a big step.

What I have from Matilda Farmer Tennison's death certificate is that her husband's name was John and he was born in GA. He was married to Rebecca Peoples. The info was given by her son, Mitchel. Doesn't say they were from Newton County but my grandmother said they lived in the the area around Mt. Judea so either that county or nearby

I have been looking in my files for a Farmer/Tenison family, but have none. What are the b dates? I have several Johns that either have some connection or are married into the family elsewhere. Our Farmers were from GA orgidinally, but came to Benton Co. AR from Bledsoe Co. TN then into Newton CO. MO. AS far as I've been able to research, no one in the immediate family was in Newton CO. AR. I do have one John that is thought to have married a Polly Casey that is tentative as a son of Aquilar and Mary Nail Farmer. Then I have another John, b. 1873 in Tom Green TX from Thomas Nail Farmer, Aquilar's son....Let me know some dates...

I have not done Geneology for sometime, But I will try to find a minute to look at this. Our Farmers were primarily in Benton Co, but I have done some extra research on John who may be part of the family. Others may know more than me by now as I haven't researched for maybe 8 yrs.
