hi..looking for Lawrence Snaith Farrier. His son, Alan Lawrence Farrier and wife went to Australia from England. Alan was a doctor and took care of his uncle? in Pingelly, WA. He and his wife stayed there after Alfred Farrier died. Alan gave his body to science at a WA university. Alan and wife had a son who still lives in WA. Name is Nigel and he is heavily involved in the martial arts. I am step niece to Alfred and trying to make connection of Alan and his father to my step uncle. Thought with middle name of Snaith, the connection would be easy but it is not so. A lot of Lawrence's family left England and may have gone to New SO. Wales in Australia. Perhaps you have seen the names or have some information. Hope to hear from you. Thanks. Marilyn

May have found some information here. The more I get into it the more confusing it is though. I was trying to find parents of George Baxter using his name and was coming up empty handed. So I used all the information I gathered from tons of websites in regards to the hints of them. Either James or Andrew. At first I was under the impression that is was James but I have since changed my mind. I found a log listing Andrew Farrier b. 1742. I almost passed this names up thinking he would be to old, but I happened to see his marriage date, 1789. Seemed kind of late to me, while his wife's name isn't listed she was b. 1769. Their children are listed James Farrier b. 1790 and George Baxter Farrier 1805. Andrew died 1806.

Pauline:

James David Farrier, b 1800 d 1847 Oregon Territory, Marion County

Married Phebe Michel (also: Phoebe, Michael, Mikel)
b. 1805 d 1875 Linn County, Oregon (Oregon became a state in 1859)

James and Phebe emigrated to Oregon in 1845, after spending some time in Iowa (see children). James died before his last son was born, before he'd been able to "prove" his homestead. Phebe, with nine children from 0-18, couldn't hope to homestead on her own. William Allphin, whose second wife had died in childbirth, heard she was widowed, rode over from his homestead in Linn County (6 children) and proposed that they marry since neither could make it one their own. They supposedly obtained the first marriage license in Marion County, but lived on Wm's homestead in Linn County. Wm. was elected to the 1850 and 1851 Territorial Legislatures. He married a fourth time after Phebe died.

Nine children of James and Phebe:
Elizabeth (1829 Ohio-1914 Oregon)
m'd 1848 John McCoy; DLC filed Oregon City , Vol 1 #165
William (1831 Ohio-1872 Harrisburg, Oregon)
m'd Ann Elizabeth Brooks (1836-?)1854 Marion County,
Oregon; she married ____ Starr several years after Wm's
death
Children: Francis Marion, Clara Belle, Susan, Fred
(Frank was my grandfather; I have a great deal of info)
George W. Crooks
Marion (Female; 1846 Oregon Territory)
David (1847 Oregon Territory); after father's death

I have lots of info about William Farrier's descendants; he was my ggrandfather. I also have a good deal of information about Ann Elizabeth and the Brooks Family, including their Bible. I have traced the years these various folks emigrated to Oregon and their Donation Land Claims, if they filed for one. The surname was often misspelled as "Ferrier."

I'm working on writing a fictional story about my ggrandmother, Ann Elizabeth--she was woman far ahead of her time, not unusual for our family.

Joyce Sherman
rivergraphics@spiritone.com

There is a park named after him on Pinto Rd in Arima, Trinidad because he was a well loved politician who did a lot for he constituents. He apparently was your grandmother's brother. Can you share with me the other information you have about his ancestry?

Re: George Baxter Farrier

Hello,
George Baxter Farrier is my 4th Great Grandfater. As far as proof that his middle name is Baxter. I visted his grave site and his head stone had the name George B. Farrier. My
Dad and I replaced the stone. It had fallen over and broken into two parts. You could read his name easily, the letters of the name were rasied. The other writing was carved into the soft stone and was hard to read. He now has a gray millitary type granet head stone. His resting place should be well maked for the next few hundred years.
I paid a genealogy company to find George Baxter Farrier's parents. I beleved it was a James and Jane Farrier. I still believe it is. The Company could not confirm it was James and Jane, but they did confirm that this James Farrier or (Ferrier) and Andrew Ferrier are brothers, Most people believe that George's father is either James or Andrew. Andrew's family is documented and Georeg is not his son, so
I feel confident that Janmes and Jane are his parents. Also,
The genealogy company was able to find a Baxter related to Jane (the person I believe is Georege's mother). So I would guess that Baxter came from Jane's family.
The gebealogy company found that James Farrier (Ferrier) died in 1815 and Jane died in 1820 (after the cencsus - you can find a Jane Farrier on the 1820 census). After her death both boys moved to Clinton County Ohio to be close to thier Uncle Andrew. George would have been 15, James 20. My gues is because the boys move to be with Andrew that is why some think Andrew is the boys dad.
The genealogy company wanted to research other records that might prove that James and Jane were George's parent but I did not want to spend any more money at that time. I will have them do anther search sometime, but there is no doubt in my mind that James and Jane are the parents. Let me know if you have other questions. My home e-mail is jnbfarrier@juno.com and my work e-mail is john.farrier@maytag.com Thanks John

Seems there are a lot of brick walls with this Farrier/Ferrier/etc. family.
I think we are onto the family that couldn't read or write and the name keeps getting changed.
I know many of them did go to OHIO when it opened up.
and these may have been related somehow.

Mine ends with a Geo. Baxter Farrier b. it was said "East of the Allegany Mts." I haven't come across any Jacobs though. To bad the early census didn't give names of the kids and wives.

I am just researhing the 1790, 1800,1810, 1820 census.
It just gets more confusing!
pgoodmangager@windstream.net
He is through Geroge's son Lewis Farrier, his daughter, Permelia Ann Farrier (Wait) born Iowa, removed to KS and m. there. Her daughter, Blanche Wait, m. Newbrey in KS. They had Flossie, m. Gager, had my husband jack.

QUESTION: For the many years I've researched this name I don't see any official documents showing his middle name was BAXTER. Do you have any such proof?
I know all us researching him have it as Baxter.

I am assuming Geo. father was a James as the first son born in about 1800 Penn. was named James...for the fathers name.
No Proof tho. There was a James Farrier b. 1750 in Maryland, got this off Ancestry com.
Some family members say orgin from IRELAND...some citizenship papers say a James became a citz. in 1803 in Philly, Penn. and had been in the USA for 9 years before that. It is all confus. being so many James'.
Let me hear back PVG

I wrote to Dean Rich before he died last year. We shared. Also many years ago wrote to Ann Farrier of OHIO.

Jacob Farrier - Berks County, Pennsylvania - c. 1814
One of my great-great grandfathers was named Jacob Forrar. According to my information, which I believe to be reliable, he was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on December 11, 1814. He moved to Ohio, married twice and had a number of children. He died in Shelby County, Ohio, on November 27, 1899, and is buried there. I have visited his grave. On his tombstone, his last name is spelled “Forrar.”

His ancestry – starting with his parents’ names – has been a brick wall for me for a long time. The biggest problem seems to be the many variations in the spelling of the family name, which included, even for Jacob himself, “Forrer,” “Forry,” and “Furrow,” to name just a few.

A few days ago, that wall may have cracked a bit. I obtained a copy of a listing of Shelby County, Ohio, marriages from January 1856 to February 1858, which includes my great-great grandfather’s second marriage. In it, his father’s name is listed as “Jacob Farrier” (mother unknown). That is a new spelling variation to me. It is also the first documentation I have ever seen of his father's name.

So my question is: Does anyone here have or know of any Farriers who lived in Berks County, Pennsylvania, around 1814, in particular a Jacob Farrier (who would have been my great-great-great grandfather)? My guess is that he would have been born in the 1780s or 1790s, but I do not know where.

I do not know if my great-great grandfather Jacob had siblings or, if he did, where he was in the birth order. I do not have a copy of his birth record, assuming there is one – my source of his birth date was a biography of him that appeared in a Shelby County, Ohio, local history book, published in 1883, while he was living there.

Any help, no matter how much of a long shot, would be appreciated. Feel free to write to me directly.

Rich Cunningham
richcunninghamny@aol.com

Heather,

I have had a reply from Constance Peck on the California Board who has found Constance and William Glenn in the 1920 United States Federal Census. There is only one problem of age. The census shows she was 43 years of age on 1930. The death certificate shows 70 years of age in 1940 and born Feb 24 1870 the census birth year is estimated. Her wedding certificate to Cyril Brass dated 12 October 1895 shows she was 24 years of age, which ties in with the death certificate age. I do believe at that time most people did not tell the truth about their age.
Finally both names and both Constances came from England lead me to believe they are the same person. Actually Constance was born in India.

Regards,

Andrew.
Heather,

That is very kind of you.
Constance Glenn’s death certificate arrived this morning, you were spot on, and it is the same Constance that my great uncle married. The certificate shows husbands name as William. No age of husband is shown, so I assume he was dead by 1940. The certificate shows she lived in the United States for 28 years, 11 years in California. Home address is shown as 2920 King Street, Berkley, California.

Regards,

Andrew.
Trying to do similar research today my efforts are thwarted, as a charge is required. Do you know any sites where I my obtain this information without being charged.

By the way I was delighted with your discovery. I have ordered the death certificate from Alameda County, I now want to obtain the marriage certificate and divorcé details.
Regards,

Andrew.
January 5 1915 the address is shown as 2316 Alston Way Berkley. There is no reference to Constance infact any copy official document I have he denies he was ever married. My next address as shown on his Petition for Naturalization dated March 31 1921 is New Scott Hotel 6th & Ankeny Streets Portland Oregon.

If I can find anything from when he first arrived in the United States to 1920 I would be delighted.
Bette,

Thank you for going to all this work. Unfortunately I had the information from the 1881 census. The Winnipeg marriage certificate does show the parents and they are as you have shown.

She was previously married to Cyril Herbert Brass 12 Oct 1895 Middlesex England, they appear in the British 1901 census. Constance applied for a devoice in 1908.

After Constance and my great uncle emigrated to the United States she disappeared as far as Genealogy is concerned. I would love to find any reference to Constance after 1913 and any reference to both before 1913.

Kind regards,

Andrew.

I‘m researching my great uncle who emigrated from Vancouver Canada with his new wife Constance. They arrived Seattle 24Dec 1913 aboard the Princess Charlotte. They were married in Winnipeg 25 Feb 1913.
The marriage certificate shows he was living at the time at 659 William Ave, Winnipeg. Father’s occupation; Sea Captain, Eastern Telegraph Co. Constance’s father is shown as General British Army. Leslie shows his occupation as “train man”. Constance’s maiden name was Constance Margareta Wish.

Henderson's Winnipeg City Directory (Winnipeg: Henderson Directories, 1913), page 13, lists: Farrier, Leslie brakeman CPR h 31 Fairfax Apts.
Leslie does not appear in Winnipeg city directories prior to 1913.

Please would you look in your local City Directory prior to 1913 for Leslie/Constance. This would help me to establish when he first arrived in Canada. I am hoping that I will eventually establish the port and date of arrival.

Regards,

Andrew Farrier
I doubt this is helpful, but my ggm was Mary Jane Friday and she married Wellingotn Barry. My maternal ggm was Rufina Meji (Jones) and married Felix Farrier. Most of the lineage is from Trinidad. The daughter was Elizabeth Farrier and she was born in 1916.

I'm looking for descendants of my gr.gr.gr.gr. uncle John Hall of Grants Pass, Josephine Co., OR. He was born in TN in 1839 and died in OR in 1914. He was married to Mattie N. Unknown b. 1846/7 on TN died in WA in Seattle, King Co., WA in 1923. They six children, I only know the names of four: Hattie, Alice, George and Lilly. George and Lilly died young and had no children. Hattie married Ralph Boyker and lived in Seattle, WA. They had one child name unknown and an adopted grandson named Boyker Ream or Boyker Ream-Boyker. Alice Hall married William Farrier. They lived for several years in Salt Lake City, UT, where their daughter Thelma married her first husband John Clifford Edwards. They later moved to Ventura County, CA, where Thelma married a Mr. Ficken. I believe Clarence Robert Ficken. Thelma had one child, Melba Edwards who married Arne Otto Arneson. They lived and died in Ventura Co., CA. I would love to hear from their descendants!
