William J. Farrington (1867-1925) Yonkers, NY

I am looking for information on the family of my g-grandfather, William J. Farrington (b. Feb. 28, 1867, d. Mar. 2, 1925) of Yonkers, NY. I believe that his paerents were Bernard J. Farrington)born around 1825, probably in Ireland, may have immigrated thorugh Liverpool, died in Yonkers in 1882) and Mary, died in Yonkers 1888. Mary's maiden name may have been Lynch. His wife was Mary Lavinia Burke (b. June 16, 1870 Mt. Hope NJ, d. June 27, 1951 Yonkers NY). William was one of 10 children, many of whom raised families in Yonkers. I hope someone can help!

Hi Arthur, I am just going through old messages. You posted this one after I left the US sailing for five years so I never got it.

John Farrington's (of Lynne)third son's name was Jacob, born July 22, 1666 just after the death of John May 2, 1666

Hi Janna, I started this query back in 2000 when I saw so many entries for the John Farrington of Dedham confused with the entries of John Farrington who came over on the Hopewell and setled in Lynne, Mass. Some attribute both wives (Mary Bulard and Elizabeth Knights) and all the children, 10 with Mary and 3 with Elizabeth (some of which were born only a month apart, huh) to just one man. I got so fed up with it I dropped out of the quest. Then my husband and I left the US for five years sailing the southern Caribbean. We returned and moved to AZ and now I am back in the game. I sort of gave up going any further with the Farrington line and started on my grandmother's line and was able to trace our lineage back to King Edward the 1st. That got so exciting it just left the Farrington line on the burner until I could turn up some new info. But I am back :-) My line runs from John's son, Daniel, born April 10, 1664

I read your post regarding our John of Dedham having been born in 1590. But I think that was the date of his father's birth. If John of Dedham was born that early he would have been 59 when he married May Bullard and 82 when his last son was born. I just don't see John marrying at 59 and then being able to have ten children. And dying in 1676 would have made him 86, and making it to that ripe old age would have been remarkable in that era. So I think that the John Farrington that was Edmond's brother must have been John of Dedham's father. It sure would have been easier if they didn't all call their sons John!

In the book "Memoirs of the First Settlement of the Island of Barbados and the other Caribbee Islands", a John Farrington is listed as one of the original leasees of land in Barbadoes, but I am not sure if that is John of Dedham or his father or another John...In 1626 when "John" was in Barbadoes, he was listed as a London Merchant.

Anyway, I would like to compare notes if you read this and are interested in corresponding.
Karen Farrington Daniels

New Edit:

Just received some information from the New York Foundling, who handled the adoption of Margaret Murphy. It turns out that the birth father's name is actually Stephen Costello of NYC. Stephen and Julia were never married, and he was not involved in Margaret's care.

Julia Farrington married a Joseph Murphy in 1911, and he died in 1919. She later married a Robert J. McDonald in 1926, possibly in Maryland, and he never knew that Julia had a daughter who was given up for adoption.

If there are any Murphys, Farringtons, or McDonalds out there who might be related, please let me know!

This may only confuse things more, but I have Timothy Stanley (1689-1761)BORN in Farrington, Hartford, Conn.-died in N.C. son of John Stanley- who was born & died in Farrington, son of John (Capt.?) Stanley, born in England, died in Farrigton. I don't have any data on any of their children. Could there be mistake, and he was referring to the Farrington based Stanley family, and not a family named Farrington?
If you have any info on Capt John, John, Timothy, his son Jacob (SR.) or Jacob Jr (d. at Kings Mtn NC Revolutionary War) I would very much like to hear from you.

My mother had mentioned a long time ago she had an uncle who died in Australia. Recently I found a great-uncle, Arthur Farrington, my Mother's uncle, who was born in Staffordshire, England in 1888 and emigrated in 1912 with his wife Mary Ann and children Gertrude and Arthur. I found via a Google search and the "Trove" website a number of articles in the Australian press regarding his death, which revealed an inquest decided he was shot and killed unlawfully, and the assailant Thomas Smith Deane was committed for trial charged with manslaughter.
However, I found no further record of the trial: only that his wife married the man who killed him later that year; and I wondered if anyone knows anything more of this story. For example, was there a trial, what happened to the children etc.

I am very interested in the Book of Common Prayer you mentioned. My great grandfather was George E. Farrington. He served in the Civil War with the 3rd Vermont regiment and fought at Gettysburg. He was born in Vermont and moved to Elgin, Illinois after the Civil War. His grandfather was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, serving at Concord, Lexington, and the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Richard Farrington b. 1426; m. Elizabeth Brotherton

I hope someone can help me untangle this. I checked 26 trees on this site and all have this same information. I have Richard Farrington married to Elizabeth Brotherton who had a son, Robert born in 1470. Both parents died that same year, 1470. Ok, that's possible -- sad, but possible. Then Robert who died in 1493 (unknown spouse) had a child Hugh Farrington (1499-1516). Six years after his father died! I don't think that's possible. Hugh may be the issue of the unknown spouse, but then it is not a correct Farrington lineage. Hugh was married to Sarah Tettlowe (1486-1516) and had a son, John (1524-1634). Hugh and Sarah both died in 1516 (8 years before their son was born) and according to records were married in 1523. Does anyone have better England records for those time periods? Thank you for any input.

Hi there,

I am looking for any information anyone may have on the Farrington family from Maidstone, Kent. The information i have is as follows: Frederick George Farrington married Florence Martha Farrington and had a son called Ronald George Farrington who was born in Bangalore India in 1932 on base during the war. They apparently lived at Gough Barracks at Trimulgherry at the time. Frederick was a Sargent and part of the 1st battalion in the Queens own royal army. From census records I gather they moved back and settled in Maidstone, Kent. Ronald was my grandfather but passed away when my father was very young so this is all we know. We are desperate to find any information for them as we would like to know if we have any family still alive up in the UK.

Please post anything you may know, even the smallest information helps.

I am searching for any information on JULIA FARRINGTON, born around 1894, from Neal in County Mayo, Ireland. She came to New York in 1911 and had a sister MARY FARRINGTON who lived in Brooklyn. Mary may have moved to Connecticut and married a Fitzpatrick. Their parents I believe were PATRICK and BRIDGET.

My Julia had a daughter, Margaret, with STEPHEN MURPHY (unsure if they were married) in 1924 who was put up for adoption in the Bronx.

It's also possible that the original surname was FARRAGHER.

Any distant relatives out there?

Hi Sandra,
I was given your mothers letter after Jacks funeral,it was unfortunate for Charlotte that she sent it to my Great Uncle Jack 2/Sept/1916-27/8/2000 (my Gran Joyce Evelyn Cotes 10/Mar/1904-4/Apr/1993 younger brother) as his daughter replied saying that they were not intrested in family history, thats because her mother was Austrian and divorced from my Great Uncle Jack but still lived in his registered address.
I have been trying to get in touch for about four years or more, I even wrote twice to your mother at 103 Rainbow Drive Texas. I discovered at a later date through persistent research that your parents had by this time sadly passed away, hence my message on the notice board as there are nine of their children I figured that eventually one of you would catch up with it fabulous !
I have more on this branch of Cotes geneaology than anyone else in the UK, but there is so much I can't transfer it to you through this system and you may need a different program to open it.

Dave Martin Nottinghamshire UK davidqbs@hotmail.co.uk

Dave- Thanks for the info. I have not had time to continue my mothers research. Yes mother did write to someone in the family back then, she worked on it until my father was too ill for her to continue and she didn't have the resources of today. My mother was Charlotte Betty (Seaman) Farrington. William Cotes is my Great Great Grandfather-I have my Great Grandmothers Birth Cert- She was named Mily according to that.I hope the information I sent about Mily's children was helpful, you certainly saved me alot of research with your information.Great Gran and all the others are buried in Greenwood Union Cemetary in Rye, NY.If I can help with any other info let me know.Mother and Dad were married 9 Nov 1946
Sandra Farrington Hayes

Then there are two Margaret Farrington's in South Bend, because I've got a copy of The South Bend Daily Tribune, Wednesday, October 10, 1894, "Mr. Thomas Millea and Miss Maggie Farrington, daughter of Mrs. Mary Farrington, of 262 South Chapin street, were married at 6 o'clock last evening in St. Patrick's church...."

Also, index of marriage records of St. Joseph County on Genealogy.com (I believe, would have to pull out my notebooks to make sure) lists their marriage on Oct. 9, 1894.

My (living) mother, the grand-niece of Thomas and Margaret, also confirms that Margaret (aunt Maggie) married Mr. Millea.

Their daughter, Laurine Millea (1902-1990) attended many of our family picnics. I'll personally attest to that one!
