I'm looking for my line of Faulkners. I can't seem to trace it very far back. My maternal grandmother was a Faulkner, but she doesn't know much past her grandparents.

The farthest I've gotten was Stapleton Faulkner. He married Sallie Gladys Irwin, and they lived in Tennessee. I think they both moved to Oklahoma before they died. They had 4 children, Coy, Creed, Lily, and Fred Newton. Fred Newton (my g-grandfather) married Hattie Bell Carroll. They lived in Carter County, Oklahoma. They had 9 children, including my grandmother. Fred was born in Nashville, TN in 1888, and died 17 Dec, 1961.

Anyone else in this line? And does anyone have any information on Stapleton, such as his parents or further back? Thanks!

HAMMAN/HAMMOND(S) FAMILY REUNION
JULY 25-27, 2008, LEXINGTON, KY

The Phillip Hamman Family Association made up of descendants of Revolutionary War hero, Phillip Hamman, and his wife, Christina Cook, residents of Kentucky for over 40 years beginning in 1782, will be having its Bi-Annual Family Reunion in Lexington, Kentucky July 25-27, 2008.

Hamman/Hammond(s) cousins will be descending upon Lexington from Alabama, Arizona, California, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and, hopefully, many from all parts of Kentucky, as well as some new cousins from other states.

Headquarters for the reunion will be the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton, 1938 Stanton Way, Lexington, KY. Reservations must be made by June 30, 2008 to get the special Phillip Hamman Group Rate. Visitors may check in as early as July 23 and get the same special room rate. When you call for reservations be sure to tell them that you are part of the Hamman Reunion group and want the special group rate.

Brian Ann Wells Arnett of Versailles, KY is coordinating the reunion and could use some help from any of the Hamman cousins in the Lexington, KY area. For more information, contact Doris Brown Rose, President of the Association, by Email: rose0303@att.net

You don’t have to be registered at the hotel to participate in the reunion events, but reservations for the Saturday night banquet should be made by those not staying at the hotel. You can contact Doris Brown Rose at the above email address to make those banquet reservations.

Friday, July 25, a group trip is planned to Mt. Sterling, then to Slate Creek near Jeffersonville, Montgomery County, to visit the site where Phillip Hamman and Christina Cook lived for almost 40 years, followed by a group meeting at 7:00p.m. Friday night for the sharing of newly revised family group sheets for each of Phillip and Christina’s children. Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. will be the business meeting for the election of new officers, followed by the sharing of new family history discoveries from members and guests. A highlight of the reunion is always the banquet on Saturday night. The special guest speaker at the Saturday night banquet will be Charles E. Darnell, descendant of Henry Cook, brother of Christina Cook Hamman.

The reunion is also open to all Hamman, Hammond(s), or any other variation of the spelling of that surname, even if you are not a descendant of Phillip and Christina.

Anyone who is a descendant of Phillip Hamman who is interested in becoming a member of DAR or SAR might especially want to attend this reunion. One member of the Association, Beverly Jay Martin, is a DAR Genealogy Consultant, has generously offered to help anyone who needs help with the application process. The service for Phillip Hamman has already been proven, as have the lines of each of his children, so it is a minor thing to get the papers in order for applying for membership in either organization. At the present time there are 88 descendants of Phillip Hamman in the DAR Descendants Database. Also, children from birth to age 21 can become members of CAR, Children of the American Revolution. The Phillip Hamman Chapter of CAR, located in Jackson, Breathitt County, KY, was named for our ancestor. James Bach Strohmeier, a former president of the Phillip Hamman Family Association, is now serving as its Senior Advisor/Sponsor. He would love to have some additions to his chapter.

This is only the fourth time in the 37 year history of the Phillip Hamman Family Association that the reunion has been held in Kentucky. The previous Kentucky based reunions were in Louisville in 1974, and in Lexington in 1982 and 1994. So, all of you Kentucky Hamman/Hammond(s) cousins might want to mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend this year’s reunion as it will probably be at least ten years before the next one will be back in Kentucky. Other reunions have been held in Chattanooga, TN; Little Rock, AR; Salt Lake City, UT; Seattle, Washington; Corinth, MS; two meetings in Oklahoma City, OK; two in Dallas, TX; two in San Francisco, CA; and four meetings in Alabama in the towns of Fort Payne, Guntersville, and twice in Huntsville.

The Phillip Hamman Family Association was formed in 1971 with the dedicated purpose of (1) gathering data about the family of Phillip and Christina Hamman and their descendants, (2) creating a giant database of information on the family to be shared by all, (3) locating the graves of all of the children of Phillip and Christina and placing markers on those that were unmarked or “poorly marked”, (4) to hold a reunion every two years, and (5) to publish a semi-annual newsletter as a means of keeping in touch with members on a regular basis. Because of the dedicated work of many Hamman cousins, all the purposes of the Association have been met, especially in the area of locating the descendants of Phillip and Christina. At the present time there are over 17,000 proven descendants who have been identified.

In recent years, the family researchers have also greatly increased their efforts to obtain information on the descendants of Valentine Cook and Anna “Susannah” Baughman, parents of Christina Cook, and the associations’s database on this family has been growing also.

CHILDREN OF PHILLIP HAMMAN & CHRISTINA COOK:
1.
Faulkner, Hutchinson, Frettsome in Derbyshire and Leicestershire

I'm trying to solve a puzzle with these 3 related surnames.

Robert Hutchinson (born 1844) was the publican and Cab Owner of the Prince Alfred, Derby Street, Horninglow in the 1891 Census.

His wife at this time is Letitia (or Letetia in the census) born 1865 as Letitia Faulkner, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Betsy) Faulkner in Swadlincote. They were married in 1888 in Horninglow (Marriage Register 1888 Q3 Burton Upon Trent 6b 502).

His son, by previous marriage to Maria who died in 1887 (Death Register 1885 Q2 Burton 6b 238) is Frederick William Hutchinson (born 1870), also resident at the Prince Alfred in 1891.

His daughter, Elizabeth Sophia, by previous marriage to Maria, married George Henry Reading in 1887 (Marriage Register 1887 Q3 Burton 6b 537) and had a son George F. Reading in 1889.

At some time between the 1891 census and 1894 Robert either moves on, or dies, but I cannot find any further record for him, nor for Frederick.

However, Letitia takes up with a John Frettsome and produces the first of 5 Children, Dinah Maud Frettsome. Letitia dies in 1905 and the death register (and certificate) shows her as Letitia Frettsome. Frettsome can and does appear in various records as Fretsome, Fretsom, Frettsom and Fretson, depending on the capability of the registrar or census taker!

I am despreately trying to find the demise of Robert and the Marriage of John and Letitia.

OLD FAULKER CABINET CARD PHOTO FOUND IN TX

I have recently purchased an old cabinet card style photo of a young woman. She is identified on the back of the card as Miss May Faulker of Tulia, TX. The "card" on which the photo is affixed is 3 1/2 inches square. The photo is a round image set on the square card. I believe this photo was taken in the 1890's, due to the fact that the photo is set on the diagonal; with top and bottom of the photo at corner points of the card. May is probably 18-25 years of age, light brown long hair. The photo is in excellent condition, although the card has a small bit of damage. Damage is NOT on the photo.
JOSIAH JOSEPH FAULKNER fr Eng to NJ/NY

Looking for parentage siblings of JOSEPH FAULKNER, b Eng 1828, died Wappingers Fls, NY 1869; married Sarah Entwistle. Children: Elizabeth, Josephine, Josiah and James. Also seeking parentage siblings of JOSIAH FAULKNER, b Eng 1811, died Wappingers Fls, NY 1876; married Elizabeth Worsley. Children: MaryAnn, James William and Joseph. Mother of JOSIAH named Ann (no maiden name) Faulkner (data noted on JOSIAH'S gravestone in local cemetery). JOSIAH FAULKNER was prominent citizen of Wappingers Fls, being Vestry member of Zion Episcopal Church, as well as Warden. He was superintendent (from 1850's til death in 1876) of the manufacturing facility in Wappingers, called the Dutchess Print Works, which employed 1200 people and produced dyed fabrics. JOSEPH FAULKNER was a dye colorist at the same factory and died in an accident at the factory. These men may be brothers; their children shared similar names. So far haven't been able to prove relation between them. JOSEPH is my paternal GrGrandfather. Does anyone have more date on either of these men? I'm at a standstill. Could use some help. Thanks.

Joseph Faulkner, Sleaford, Lincolnshire

My cousin is trying to find information about the above individual for her mother-in-law, his daughter. Joseph Faulkner b.c. 1917 In Sleaford, married Phyllis Harrison, some time before 1944. He was killed in WWII in 1944, three months before his only child was born. The Commonwealth War Graves Commision indicates that his parents were Sidney and Mary Faulkner. Sadly Phyllis died three years later and their only child went to the mother's family and she lost all contact with her Faulkner relatives. Hoping someone can provide some assistance. Thanks.

What was her name, bith/death dates/places? I've named her father, Joseph Faulkner, above.
John Faulkner, b. 1750 VA/NC

This John is direct maternal 4th great, m. Sarah Tinsley, b. 1756, Essex, VA, living in Surry Co., NC, on 1784-1787 First Census of NC. Five sons, 2 daughters before moving to Elbert Co., GA by 1788. Have info on many of their descendents through GA., AL, MS to TX. Fifty years of research, on site and Internet sources, still leave us at a loss as to his parents. Because of known collaterals, etc. believe that he is the son of Francis Faulkner, of the Maryland Faulkners (who moved with several of his brothers) to the Cape Fear-Black River area of NC along with their friends, the Stanfields (also on same NC census), known Quakers from MD family. Research indicates they were Quaker, morphing into Baptists by the time they moved to GA. These people were literate, educated, landed. Also believe that William "Forker", same 1787 NC Census, same county, could be John's uncle. Can anyone suggest further areas to search?? I have Sarah Tinsley's group documented all the way back, but 1750 John is still an enigma to four or five of us here in TX (at least)!! Any thoughts appreciated !!

Need to find the names of DANIEL FALCKNER/FALKNER/
FAULKNER'S children. He was born in Germany 1660 and
died in PA 1742. He and his brother,Justus, owned 50
acres in Montgomery Co., New Hanover Twp., called
Faulkner's Swamp. He organized the first German
Lutheran church in America, and donated some of his
land for a church. Both Daniel and Justus were
ministers.
I believe Thomas Faulkner (1686/87-1752), who married
Mary Catherine Ferree of Lancaster Co. PA, was
Daniel's son. Proof, anyone? Thanks.

I'm researching an ancestor by the name of Charles Falconer b. abt 1770/80 (name later became Faulkner ) he married a Marie (Mary) Gilmore likely in Scotland and they possibly had a first son by the name of Charles also in Scotland abt 1800/1802 and then immigrated to Montréal, Québec, Canada where their first trace is in 1803. The family did not keep good records so I'm really guessing as to their exact origin so if you have any information it would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Robert Raymond,
Smith's marriage on 12/24/1884 in McMinnville, TN. It appeared the invitation came in the form of a box that opened flat to display the wording. This box was framed with a piece of lace. It was for sale for $8.00 in booth 65 at the Corvette City Antique Mall in Bowling Green, KY.

Samuel Faulkner

I am seeking ancestors, siblings, any family of Samuel Faulkner, born abt. 1805, somewhere I think in England. He married Elizabeth Pinkerton on 23/4/1820 at St. Leonards Church, Shoreditch, London. They had 5 children - one of whom Maria, born 8.9. 1830, was my great grandmother. I have no other information on Samuel Faulkner and would appreciate any information that anyone might have.
Robyn Davies - rdavies@lis.net.au
