Good to get your reply. We have corresponded in the past.I know quite a bit about my 4 great grandfather Thomas Lea Fawcett, but am always looking for more. What is your connection to him? Can we exchange data by email as well as here? I don't always have an ancestry subscription. I can let you know in more detail, not enough room here.

I have a lot of information on the Thomas Lea Fawcett family as I have followed one line from the early 1800s down to the present day plus details of Thomas Lea Fawcett's 50-year journey around the globe. He was born and died in good old England.

Now I need more details. What do you know, please? Thanks.

Elizabeth M Fawcett Findley Obituary

The Scotia Register
Volume XXXII, Thursday, June 17, 1926, pg. 1, column 3
CALLED BY DEATH
Mrs. A. L. Findley passed away at her home south of Scotia yesterday morning at about 4:00 o'clock. Her death came very unexpectedly she having gone to bed the evening before in her usual good health. The day before she had worked in the garden and had done her usual tasks about the home. The cause of her death was given as heart trouble.
No one person could have been taken from the community who will be missed so much as Mrs. Findley. She was loved by all who knew her. She was a real neighbor, always more than willing to do her part. Mrs. Findley had always been very active in the church work at Lamartine, and especially in working with the younger people of the community.
The hearts of the entire community will go out in tender sympathy to the family of this good wife and mother.
Funeral Services are to be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Lamartine church. Short services will be held at the home at 1:45.

The Scotia Register
Volume XXXII, Thursday, June 24, 1926, pg. 1, column 3
Funeral Services Held for Mrs. Albert Findley Friday
The funeral services for Mrs. Albert Findley were held last Friday afternoon. A short service was held at the home, following which the funeral cortege proceeded to the Lamartine Methodist Church where services were held under the charge of Rev. E. V. Price, the pastor. A very large crowd was present to pay their last tribute to a loved neighbor and friend, and the many flowers, sent by friends of the deceased, were fitting tokens of their high esteem for her.
Interment was made in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
AT REST
Elizabeth M. Fawcett was born on May 1st, 1862, in Flushing, Belmont County, Ohio, and departed this life on June 16th, 1926, aged 64 years, 1 month and 16 days.
When in her infancy, her mother died, leaving her in the care of her older sister, Mrs. Henry Welsh, who preceded her to the eternal resting place only three years ago.
After a few years spent in her native state the family moved to Johnson County, Missouri, and while there she was united in marriage to Albert Lee Findley. They lived here for eight years and then moved to Nebraska, near Scotia, where she spent the remainder of her life.
At the age of seventeen she united with the Presbyterian Church and after moving to Nebraska, had her membership changed to the Lamartine Methodist Church, since which time she had been a faithful and consistent member.
She was a devoted wife, a kind and loving mother – ever faithful in the service of others.
Mrs. Findley was of that amiable disposition to make friends wherever she went, and will be sadly missed in the homes of her many friends and neighbors.
Besides a host of friends and relatives, she leaves to mourn her loss a husband and three children, - Mrs. Austin Voorhees, of Long Beach, Calif., Harold and Floyd of Scotia, one child having preceded in infancy.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

Dear Chuck,
You and I may be toenail relatives. Mary Mahony/Mahoney/Mahaney Fawcett was my 2GM's sister. (MARY, wife of Fred.)

Note that Fred's obit mentions late Charles... So if I sorted family correctly, You and I share mutual ?GP's steming from parents of Mary, wife of Fred the firefighter. I believe they were Timothy Mahoney (various spellings) & Mary Cahill, the parents of Mary, wife of Fred.

Great to hear from you again. The last time we had contact you were having some family difficuties and I did not want to bother you. Then I got away from my genealogy a little. I really owe you a large debt of gratitude for all the information you provided. The recent posting was really an attempt to attract all the Fawcetts in the hope that somewhere I could find my Great Grandfather Abraham Pendlebury. It was a shot in the dark, but I have reached a dead end. I did find where he enlisted in the Army in 1863 and was promptly discharged as being unfit because of consumption and I have his discharge papers. On the Fawcetts, I in June had a message from a Karen Eckardt thru Ancestry.com. I had been notified that she was looking at the few Fawcetts I have posted for bait so I contacted her. Her connection is that Anna Fawcett married Dick Algra, brother of her great grandfather John. I do not know where she lives, but she was going to visit Sparta/Melvina and the farm shortly. I do not know her email address but I still have the link so I can contact her. I did mention your name to her so maybe she contacted you. I did not hear back from her after her visit to Wisconsin, so maybe I should write to her. As for Peter Fawcett, I have not heard anything from him for a long time. I have been undergoing some problems the past several years. I am going on 84 which is only part of the reason. Let's keep in touch

Fawcett Family from Sedbergh, Yorkshire County

I wish to join the many searches for the Fawcetts who originally were in Sedbergh, and Langdale by Ambleside, which immigrated to Poughkeepsie first in the 1840's and then to Wisconsin. Elinor Fawcett married Abraham Pendlebury in Poughkeepsie but he never went to Wisconsin. He had consumption and was discharged from the Army in 1863 and was last seen at Tewksbury Hospital in Mass. Cannot find his death or place of burial. Thomas Fawcett Sr. was head of family who married Margaret Jackson and had nine children.

Hi How are you I just got back from vacation an its nice to hear from you. I don't know if you are aware of this but I was at the Visitors Center of Barnegat , NJ Lighthouse an right off the that small piece of coast there has been 7,200 to 7,300 Ships Sunk their an I found out that the immigrants when immigrating from Ireland, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France I was told by the people at the Maritime Museum that the Ships all went South down to the 40th Parallel an Sailed into the New York Harbor an PA an NJ an DE when immigrating that was for when they were going to The New Land (America) an the Ships would go North up to the 40th Parallel an would Sail to the New Land the 40th Parallel as a Maritime guiding point it was one of the first used an Benjamin Franklin was the one to discover this. The Maritime Museum is in BeachHeaven, NJ an has records of 7,200 to 7,300 ship wrecks right off the NJ an NY Coast it is truly amazing to see if you know the name of the ship the ancestor or ancestors were on they can give you a copy of all the information on that ship that wrecked an what had happened. I thought you may know this but I thought I would pass the interesting info on to you to see if it can ever be of help to you. Yours Truly, Hughie Fawcett

The Pittsburgh Fawcetts are buried next to the Lewis and Clark lot at Versailles Cemetery. Since Meriwether Lewis was Alexander Hamilton's aide, it could be that the Lewis and Clark families along with the Fawcetts are playing some kind of joke at Versailles Cemetery in Pittsburgh. Or they could be the real thing.

Hi here is some info on Rachel Fawcett an Sir James Hamilton: Hi Iam Hughie Fawcett from Greensburg an here is some info on Rachel Fawcett an James Hamilton. I think her parents came to Antrim, Northern Ireland Dr John Fawcett an his wife Mary from the West Indies but having problem to find it to prove this. Here is more info: Hughie,

According to these various references, Rachel Fawcett was born in Nevis, West Indies sometime between 1729 and 1740 *(depending on which version you go for). Her father was a French Huguenot trader called John Fawcett and her mother was a British lady named Mary Uppington. She married a man name Levine or Lavien (again depending on which version you go for) and was later divorced from him. She took up with James Hamilton. Opinion seems to vary as to whether they ever married, or indeed whether she was ever free to marry, but it is clear they had the 2 famous sons James & Alexander.

On the face of it, beyond the name, I can’t see anything which connects Rachel with your family. The information would seem to suggest her father was from France, not England. I would think you’d need to make enquiries in Nevis to establish more about his background. Interesting reading on the family though:

http://xroads.virginia.edu/~cap/ham/hamback1.html

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=5H6fAxcX_8YC&pg=PA96&...;...

http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/localities.caribbean.usvi.gener...

8.3.11
I am related to James Hamilton brother of Alexander Hamilton, both were sons of Rachael Fawcett Levine. Here is how our story went on that family. Rachel Fawcett, youngest child of John & Mary Fawcett, was born in 1740 and died in 1772. Her parents were Dr. & Mrs. John Fawcett and they had an estate in the Island of Nevis in the West Indies.

When Rachel was 16 yrs. of age, she met a Dane by the name of John Michael Levine. Her parents influenced her to marry him. She never liked him and before her son's birth she ran back to her parent's home. The child looked so much like his father that he was sent back to him at St Croix.

After 4 yrs. Rachel met James Hamilton,Sr. a son of Dr. Hamilton from Scotland. They wanted to marry, but were denied because divorced persons were not allowed to do so. They lived together as man and wife and were soon received into high society. She was called Mistress Hamilton. From this union came James & Alexander Hamilton.

The family continued to live in the Nevis Island, but James, Sr. was gone much of the time so the boys were the responsibility of Rachel. They had a small store and lived in the rear of it. Rachel's uncle had great influence on the boys' lives. He had a large estate and the boys learned to farm it. James became a carpenter and continued to live on the island, but Alexander at the age of 16 came to the United States to complete his education and became a lawyer.

James, Jr. married Mary (last name unknown) and had a daughter by the name of Mary Hamilton. Mary married a man by the name of James Skillens. Their daughter, Mary Skillens married a John Lawther of County Down, Northern Ireland ( this is where my family come in). John and Mary left on their wedding day, Feb. 16, 1808 for America to visit her brother, a weaver in Boston, Massachusetts and a sister, Eliza, who was a spinner of fine thread, a trade that she had learned in her Irish home. John had a brother in Albany, New York whom they were going to visit. He was a machinist and owned his own ship. He lived in great style, having a coach and four horses and had several servants. John and Mary had planned to stay only a year, but evidently changed their minds.John and Mary (Skillens) Lawther had 9 children-Robert Lawther (1809-1843); Eleanor Lawther (1811-1844); John Lawther (1814-1816); Mary Lawther (1916-1842); Margaret Lawther (1818-1883); James Lawther (1820-1895); Nancy Agnes Lawther (1822-1900); Maria Louisa (1823-?); John Lawther ( 1826-?). The Lawther Family source of material found in History of Livingston County 1880, Biographical Sketches of Livingston County 1891, Correspondence with relatives, Census of 1850-State Library of Lansing, Michigan, and Livingston County Courthouse Howell, Michigan.

Some of the Hamilton information was found in the book entitled "The Little Lion" by Helen Boyd Higgins. The Bobbs-Merrill Co., Inc. 1942,1952, 1962, copyright.

The James and Rachel (Fawcett) Hamilton and their two sons lived on the Island of Nevis, but left to live on St Croix Island in the West Indies. They were happy until James left the family. Rachel had to open a store in the back of their house to support herself and boys. She was a beautiful woman with dark auburn hair and gray eyes. James was a tall well built boy with dark hair and black eyes. He looked like his father, while Alexander looked like his mother.

James became an apprentice to a Mr. McNobeny. He made the stable for Alexander's horse. The lumber and nails cost 50 kfones. James mother, Rachel died in 1772. After the hurricane of 1772, James was at the head of the carpenters and builders as part of the rescue squad. He was considered the best carpenter on the whole island. James and Alexander became the best of friends. James missed Alexander when Alexander left the island to go live in the American Colonies.

www.nndb.com/people/183/000022117/
