Mary Fay Born 1796, Stafford, Tolland County, Conn

I'm looking for information about Mary Fay born 1796. Daughter of Timothy Fay and Phila Phillips.

I came across the will of Timothy Fay in 1846. Based on the will, Mary Fay had died by then. (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nychauta/Wills/Wills_vol_2...)

From will:
"Achilles Underwood, James Underwood, Mary Underwood, 4 unnamed Underwoods, all residents of Homer, Lenawee County, Michigan, grandchildren of deceased and children of Elias Wedge whose wife now deceased was a daughter of the deceased."

From her fathers will, it looks like she was married to Elias Wedge but her children have Underwood as their surname. I'm trying to find out if Mary Fay was married to an Underwood.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Regards,
Dulcie
On Saturday afternoon while preparing to go to town she was stricken with apoplexy, and her death occurred on Sunday afternoon at about four forty-five o'clock.
Margaret Fay was born in Grundy county, Illinois, November 7, 1858. she was united in marriage with Joseph Graham in Chatsworth in 1876, and they continued to reside here until seven years ago, when they moved to a farm near Wolcott, Ind.
Mrs. Graham is survived by her bereaved husband, eight children, Patsy; Mrs. Arthur Avery, of Wolcott; Mrs. Urban Nimbler and Mrs. Nicholas Nimbler, of Chatsworth; Estelle, Joe, Jesse and Ollie, who are at the parents home. She also has five grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.
The funeral services were conducted on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock at Sacred Heart church at Remington, and the remains were laid to rest in the Sacred Heart cemetery. A large gathering of relatives and friend were present to pay their last respects to a woman who was a good wife and mother, and who was loved by all who knew her, as she possessed a willing heart and hand ever ready to assist those who needed it.
Among those from away who attended the funeral were the following; Mr. and Mrs. Urban Nimbler and children; Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Nimbler and children, Thomas Kerrins, Thomas Lahey, Miss Mary Cronoin, Mr. and Mrs. John Graham, all of Chatsworth; Mr. and Mrs. Patsy Mooney and son, Patsy, Mike and Alice Fay all of Peoria; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Middleton, of Arrowsmith.
That is the first picture he has seen of Ada-he says she looks a lot like her mother-there was Ada-Terrence (my husband's father) William-Mary-Bonnie and Barbara-they were raised in the Richmond area of Michigan-my husband Dad lived in Fostoria, Michigan. My husband is James (I'm Cherie by the way). We are currently living in Florida, but are planning to move closer to our son in Texas. Jim lost his father in 1990. Mary and William are also deceased. Bonnie and Barbara married and moved away, and we no nothing more about them. Their parents are Terence and Goldie Welsted. Goldie passed in 1963 complications from diabetes. Terence died in 1966. I will hook my scanner up and send you pictures. Jim's dad was suppose to be named after his Dad but somehow and extra r ended up in his name. Terence(Ada's father) was named after his grandfather. This summer I was able to travel to Andersonville Georgia where 2 of his brothers died at the confederate prisoner of war camp. We were able to find their headstones. Hard to imagine losing two of your sons like that. I am interested in any pictures you have, as we are trying to put together his family history. The first information we had about Ada was from Charles Fay. He told me in an email that he met Ada while deer hunting in Michigan. Apparently the Dentons and the Fays were friends. I will see what else I have and send it to you.

Hi! My name is Robynne Fay. My husband, Bill, is Ada's second child. She has four other children, Patricia, Donald, Joseph and Brian. Donald passed away several years ago in a car accident. Patricia and her family live in Colorado; Joseph and his family life in Beaumont, CA; Brian and his family live in Redding, CA and we live in Highland, CA not far from Joe. I am attaching the most recent photo of Ada before she died. I also have some older photos of when she was younger as well as photos of her husband and children if your husband is interested. I have to scan them into my computer first. I know absolutely NOTHING about Ada's family! Please, can you tell me anything? I would so love to hear the story of what happened, how many brothers and sisters she has and what happened to them. What happened to her parents, etc. Thank you soooooo much for contacting me!

Hi all,
I descend from an Ada Polly Fay born 1847 in Richmond, Chittenden Co., VA. I am interested because her brother, Newton Murray Fay moved to Oakland, CA after the Civil War. He first married a cousin, Julia Louise Fay of VT. These are my great-grandparents. He married Clarissa Grace CHAPMAN abt 1891 in Sacramento, CA. Had 4 more children by her. Had a son named Murray Newton Fay. Wonder if Stanley Fay is related to this family. Lots of information on the FAY family of Chittenden Co., VT.

Brick Wall Help - Susie Fay Hoagland

My Great-Great-Great Grandmother was born in Rochester, Olmsted, Minnesota 25 Feb 1876 to Ward L. Hoagland and Susie Fay. Her name was Mary Virginia Hoagland, and she was adopted by the George Witter family in Central Wisconsin sometime after 1880.
I’m trying to track down Mary’s parents. I’ve found her father Ward and his ancestry, but have been unsuccessful in finding pretty much anything on her mother, Susie Fay. I’ve gotten a copy of Ward and Susie’s marriage license from 1874, and of course it had no information regarding Susie’s parents on it. I’ve found Mary’s birth record. I found Ward and Susie in the 1875 MN Census in Rochester. This says Susie was born in 1855 in Michigan (and her parents were born in Ireland), and I’ve found Susie and Mary in the 1880 Census in Rochester (Ward and Susie had divorced by then), but that’s where I lose Susie. I also did find a Susie Fay in the 1870 Census in Haverhill, Olmsted, Minnesota, but she is a “Domestic Servant” and it only lists her as being born in 1855 in Michigan.
I was able to find a Susie Fay born in 1855 in Osceola, Michigan (daughter of Edward and Margaret Fay) but I’ve also found this same family in a tree posted on Ancestry.com and contacted the owner who says that this is not the same Susie Fay because she died when she was 10 and she has a photo of the grave.
Since I can’t find a death for Susie Fay or Susie Hoagland, I am wondering if she remarried, but then again I haven’t been able to find another marriage for Susie Fay or Susie Hoagland.
I thought someone who is more familiar with the Olmsted Country records that are available, might be able to offer some insight or information on my elusive Susie Fay.
Thanks,
Mike Bishop
Madison, Wisconsin
Looking for relatives of Leonard D. Fay, b 1844

My Grandfather is George Fay, son of Leonard, son of Alvah. I have traced my line to John Fay (1648) and the line shows a migration from Massachusetts to Vermont to Canada and south again to Minnesota. Leonard appears to have moved south and had many children with Mary Jane?. I would love to hear more from my cousins in MN. I am betting that some of them can shed more light on the family's history as pioneers in Canada and MN and also someone might have information about Leonard's mysterious grandmother named Experience.

I believe the Owen Fay you reference actually lived in Bunnoe rather than Cootehill. His farm was just down the road from Bunnoe Church. The GAA park is on one of Owen's fields. Owen and Sue had the reputation of being two of the nicest people in the parish. He was a farmer and also operated the Mill at Bunnoe. Owen passed away in 2002 at age 77. His wife Sue had passed away three years earlier. They had no children but they helped raise a family called the McDermott's that were related on Sue's side.
William A. Fay 1884-1964 Binghamton, NY / Northern PA

I am trying to research the family history for my grandfather William A. Fay. I know very little of his background. I do not know the names of his parents or if he had any siblings. I believe that he was born in Ireland. He was married to Hazel (don't know maiden name) and had three Children: Alfred (deceased at young age), Evelyn ( lived near Buffalo,NY, probably deceased now) and Charlotte (my mother, deceased in 1974). 1920 Census records show him and family living on Lyon St. in Binghamton,NY. 1930 Census records show him as an 'inmate' at the NY State Hospital in Binghamton and separately, his family still living in Binghamton. He was a railroad man early in his life. As a older person, he lived alone in Binghamton, NY until he became too ill with Parkinson's. He died in 1964 at the State Hospital in Binghamton, NY. He is buried at the Port Crane, NY Cemetery. Thanks in advance for any help / information.

Most likely, it's the makers name. Blade makers normally stamp their name/company name on the tang of the blade. Owners usually put their names on the blade or the handle.

HI, Thanks for your message, I originally wrote this before I knew the correct spelling... I don't know where Bridget was from but they lived in Cavan Co, close enough to Cavan Town for at least one of their children (John Gerald) to be born in the town hospital. That was 1925. I've heard that Patrick Martin was either an undertaker or a blacksmith. They were Catholic but I don't know very much else. If you know any Fahey's I'd appreciate the info.
Thanks
Melissa

If you think your Fays came from Galway that is over a 120 miles from Cavan aprox. and I dont think we would be the same Fays and there is no 'Martin' in our family that I know of, you can google to see Map of Galway/Cavan, you could check the records in Boston, there is a place beside the Kennedy library in South Boston that has records also on Trapelo Rd. waltham Ma.
do you live in Boston?
Good luck
Do you have any info about brothers of Martin who might have come over with him or after him? My great grandfather was Michael, born between 1833 and 1841 in Ireland.

The earliest info I have on him is his marriage in 1863 in Cincinnati, Ohio. One of his sons was named Martin.

Hi, I have some information on Willis Fay. He married my gradfather's sister. Here is an exerpt from my grandfather's memoir:

"The first Child, Mary (Lawrence), was born at Carlisle, Mass, in 1856. She was taken by her Uncle Rev. Hubbard Lawrence of Breckville, Ohio. She was educated at Lake Erie
Seminary there and married Willis W. Fay of Elyria. He was an official of the Bridgeport Screw and Tap Co., and prospered. Their home was very comfortable and
one child Ralph was born to them. Mary was quite a leader in society of the town, Later Mr. Fay joined a Mr. Perry and the firm of Perry & Fay built a large
factory which carried on the same type of work. Mr. Fay lived for many years and died before his wife. Bad judgment led him to keep his son as an attendant so
that the brilliant young man had no opportunity to continue in the profession he was fitted for at M.I.T. Mary’s life was happy and unhappy. She was fortunate in
having an indulgent, generous husband; but she was very nervous and impatient and her last years were sad ones."

Another sister,Ophelia, married Lamartine Fay. Again, from my grandfather's memoir: "
The fifth child, a daughter named Ophelia was born at Wilton, Maine, in 1864. She grew to resemble her Mother in looks, character, intelligence and spirit. Educated at the Northfield Seminary, she went to live with her sister Mary in Elyria, Ohio. Soon after her arrival there, she married Mr. W. Lamartine Fay, brother of Willis W. Fay, a leading lawyer & manufacturer. It was an ideal union. Twin boys and 5 fine girls were born them. Ophelia showed great business ability and invented several articles. Factories wore built to manufacture them and the family prospered. A beautiful home was built on Washington Ave. Mr. Fay died after many years & his widow and sons carried on the business. One of the twin boys, Lamartine was a brilliant inventor who might have made several fortunes, but he continually changed from one thing to another so that others reaped the fruits of his genius. The other son Lawrence and the five daughters are happily married or occupied. Ophelia is now 75 and has lived to see only one of her children die — Lamartine."

I hope this helps.

I appreciate you taking time to respond. I do not know if I told you. I am Robert, and my brother is Thomas, we are grandsons of Bernard. My mother was Rosemary. My aunt Winifred had a son Jimmy. But, since her passing away we haven't had any contact with him. I recently established communication with Mccooey, and she has a more information on the family. I went to visit with them in Cavan, and they introduced me to other members of the family there.
They were kind enough to take me to the farm. It was a great experience.
She has been researching and has a great deal of information about the family, if you are interested.

R:
I see that you left 2 messages- Sorry I did not get back to you quicker but I still work full time and only check these emails every week or so; otherwise I don't go the the web site.

My father's aunt Kate was bedridden;she had a daughter and son living with her when I last saw her as a kid back around 1960. I beleive her husband had been dead a long time since I don't ever remember seeing him even at earlier visits in th 50's. I don't remember her last name but I do recall that they had lived on a farm somewhere around Springfield MA. At that time, neither the daughter nor son were ever married and they looked like they were in the 40's or 50's to me then. I don't think either of them worked.

I am sorry that I can't be of more help but all my parents, aunts and uncles have died several decades ago and I lost track of my cousins on my father's side then. I believe that I have a cousin Peter Slater living in new mexico and the others were living in southern california and in virginia back in the 70's

I do not have much information. I was lucky to search in the 1901 and 1911 Irish census. There, I found my grandfather's family. Together with what I have found in the Ellis Island site, and the subsequent US census, I found bits and pieces. Later on, when I started using this blackboard I completed the search. I actually went to Ireland and met with some of the family members that are still over there. In a previous trip to Ireland, I was told that most of the Fay;s are from Cavan County, and other's from Northern Ireland, not that you won't find them elsewhere. But, I would suggest you search around these places first. I hope this helps you, and I wish you the best.

My grandfather's grandfather was Martin Fay. He was from Ireland. His wife was Margaret Ann Smith. There were 7 children: Bridget-1823,Katharine-1825, Margaret-1827, James-1829 (my grandfather's father), Mary-1835, Patrick-1846, and Anna-1848. I have heard so much about the fay families coming to US from Ireland and there are a lot that have the same names. This is the 1st I've heard of one mentioning a Martin. But I think my Martin came to US in 1852 with his family. I also think when they came their name was spelled Fahy. Do you have any information you can share that may shed a little light here? Thank you. Linda
