Martha A. Feaster, ca 1866

I have a delightful letter found in my great-grandmother Susan Summerow's family bible, written in October, 1866 from her "true friend" Martha A. Feaster. The address is only "Feasterville," but she asks "Sue" to direct her next letter to Feasterville, Fairfield Dis(trict?). I don't know if this is NC or SC. Susan lived in either Gaston or Lincoln County, NC at the time and was then still unmarried. She later married George Hines. I would love to share a transcription of the letter with a descendent. Martha refers to her husband as "Mr. Feaster," so I do not know his name. She is inviting "Sue" to come join them for Christmas, and they would meet her "at Cornwell's."

Hi! Claude Feaster & Stella had my Grandpa Billy Ray! He had children with my Granny, Billie Marie Feaster. (He also had kids before that but I'm not sure who with. I could always find out by asking my mother I'm sure)Anyways, They had Billy, Claude, James and Beverly together who all now have kids of their own! Me being the daughter of Beverly and the great grand daughter of them. All in the fort worth area. Joeleta is my great aunt who lives in Kennedale Texas. It's always so neat to hear about your family tree. What area does Ishmael come from?

My husband (Jonathan Thomas Feaster) was born in 1990, his father was Michael Thomas Feaster and (with little info from MIL) I'm told he died in a wreck driving to an oil rig in Texas. We know NOTHING more about this man and only have 2 photos of him. One of him holding my husband on his chest (profile) and another of him driving (profile. :/) He supposedly was married before being with my MIL Donna Smith. With his ex-wife he had 4 children and said he "already had a 'Tommy'" when my MIL named my husband. (He's called Tommy)
jdrew,
Thank you for your reply. I am a professional historian; consequently I am unemotional about the events of history. That doesn't mean I don't have opinions or feelings about events. In this case, I agree w/ Sen. McCain. Was it a tragedy, a debacle, a catastrophe? Yes, to all of these. Can the story be related objectively? Again, yes. Those of us who have studied that period of history find, as human beings, that it is very difficult NOT to become emotional - for the sufferings of the Native Americans as well as the young soldiers. I deal with a number of topics that force me to set aside my feelings/emotions; I can tell you later about some of them.

I would like to take this discussion off this thread so we don't incite any more emotional outbreaks. BTW, I AM sane - could probably find papers to prove it if necessary ;-O Anyway, my interest is purely in those MoH awardees who are from this county in PA. There seem to have been quite a number for such a small, sparsely populated place.

I'm very interested in your Grandfather's certificate; there is also a small probability that my wife is part of that family...

Please contact me: K7CI(at) hotmail.com, ok?

I have my Grandfather's Congressional Medal of Honor certificate. I would be happy to discuss this with anyone who is 'sane' and can me unemotional about the Wounded Knee tragedy. I have studied the history leading up to that debacle at Pine Ridge. It was a catostrophic event that pitted a bunch of young, scared, tired and emotionally spent cavalry soldiers against an unarmed, hungry and cold Sioux tribe. The Ghost Dance religion spooked the hell out of these troops. Plus, a majority of these soldiers had journeyed from as far east as Ft. Sheridan, IL, in the saddle. The Pine Ridge Agency agent at the time, has a bit of explaining to do about the setup of the site the Sioux had been forced to congregate in. As to the "unjust award of medals"...as Sen. John McCain said...you cannot go back to correct the decisions made by errant officers in upper command. Not 120 years later.

You correct history by correcting the story. Attacking the participants who suffered the mental torment of their own misdeeds does not vindicate the past or improve on the tragedy. It just stirs up useless emotion, and feeds hate.

The family of HENRY FEASTER (before 1765-21Mar1815) of ROCKINGHAM CO., VA; and his descendants of HARDY CO., VA/WV; and GRANT CO., WV, are NOT descended from the Feaster Family of Bucks Co., PA. DNA testing has proven NO connection between these families. The INCORRECT connection was made by Glenn and Jennie Feaster in their 1982 book, Feaster Genealogy: 1708-1981, and has been repeated all over the Internet!!! The earliest reference to the above Henry Feaster is a 1795 Road Survey in Rockingham Co., VA. He also appears there on the 1798 Tax List.

Hi, I posted on ANCESTRY a public Family Tree called "Feaster-New Brunswick NJ and New York City" If your Husbands grandfather was the mentioned Robert Feaster, then this is your husbands family tree going back several more generations. Feaster is my maternal line and I update this tree as new information becomes available. Names of living descendents are only described as "living feaster" or whatever the last name is. If you want to add any info to the tree or have any questions please let me know.
Al Mayo e-mail almayonj@optimum.net

Re: Feasters and Colemans in Fairfield County, SC and Arkansas, 1904

I have been working on some of my husband's relatives in Fairfield and Chester SC. The name Jacob Feaster jumped out of your post. I found a will transcription on SCDAH website. Andrew Feaster Senior called one Jacob his nephew. Time wise, it's not likely the one in your picture, since his will was written in 1838. He also called Henry A Coleman his nephew.

My husband is descended from Martin Elam of Chester County. One of his daughters married Wylie F(ritz) Coleman, and the other married Solomon Coleman, brother to Wylie. Other names are Colvin, Cockrell. These are also in Andrew's will. Hubby's descent is from son George Phillips Elam who moved to GA ca 1830's.

His son left GA and moved to Texas where he died, but left a large family.

Could use some help, particularly on the Coleman line. Will be happy to share what I have found.

Lolene

How are the Texas Feaster's related to Peter Pfister of Bern, Switzerland and the Feasterville Feasters. I couldn't ever make a connection. My great-grandfather was John Elbert Feaster. He settled in Avalon/Nash, TX. He is the brother of Lawrence Feaster in Colorado City, TX.
