Alison
I am a Felton but I don't know a Charles, but Henry Felton came here with 2 brothers, George and Christian in 1667 with their Father Heinrich Felton. They lived in Germantown, PA before Henry moved to Nicholson, PA and raised a large family. I don't know where his brothers moved to after the Revolutionary War.
The church should have a registry with information about Mildred.
Bonnie

Hi Cora,
I am the ggggranddaughter of Henry Felton, who lived the latter part of his life in Nicholson, PA. My line goes Henry, Christian, William Brady, William Henry, Voy W., and Lawrence W. Felton. My Father lives with me and turned 95 yesterday.
I have tried to register Henry Felton with the DAR but have trouble proving Christian and not George is my family line. I have been to the Deckertown Cemetery and my Family lived many years on that road where William Brady is buried.Bonnie

Rumors run through my wife's family that her grandmother, Nancy Jane Mask (either a Felton or Simpson?) was a Cherokee adopted during a famine in Arkansas. She married William Jacob Mask 15 Jan 1883 and said both of her parents were born in Missouri. Looking for anyone that may have information on this.

Thanks

God Bless you, you have been doing some extensive research. Your data is pretty good. I believe I am on the right track. I realize more and more that I need to make a trip to that area and visit the cemeteries, county records and etc. The house still has good revealing character. The missing link is actual parent's names of my grandmother. I must close, I found out I have death in my family. I need to contact family. Please stay in touch and any data you find pertinent to my case, please feel free to contact me, thank you so much.

The White Felton's originated in Gates County NC. They moved to Houston County around 1820's. The County split around 1830's and Macon was formed. They had about 4 Plantation owning Felton brother's in Macon. Billy's Place is the only one still standing. It is also the place most of the original White Felton's are buried. They formed a city cemetery named Felton Cemetery that is also a burial grounds for most of the original White Felton's and other White citzens of that day. Montezuma seems to be the Felton center of Felton influence in the County. The African American Felton's burial grounds are most likely on or near the Plantations. I have been trying to find them, but they may be lost to history. This is what I found on Ancestry website. I attached an old and new picture of Billy's Place.

-1870 Squire Felton born 1848 approx race? Schley County.
-1880 Squire (35yrs old born approx 1848) and Margaret Felton Macon County Race Black. Also in home three kids.
-1890 Squire Felton Macon County Property Records.
-1900 Squire (50yrs old)and Margie Macon County.
-1910 Squire (62yrs old, born approx 1848) no wife listed. Dooly County. 4 kids in home. One child named Rosa Lee Felton age 11 yrs old.
-1917-1918 WWI Draft Record. Born 1893. May be a son or relative.
-1851-1900 Squire and Margaret Felton. Marriages Registration Macon County

Thanks for your response once again. My curiosity is strong, you use a person's name quite relaxing 'Billy's place' is this a special or historical marking. I have not been to the area yet, but do plan on going, pending. As I said, I have very little information to go on - the 'Felton' name is very widespread in the Georgia area. I want more leads; as I said my grandmkother knew very little of her own mother, who died when she was just a child. You have given me more information, but would like to know more of Billy's place, if you will. I thank you kindly.

Your grandmother's grandparents Squire and Marjorie Felton are from Macon County. It should be easy to find them in a census report. When do you think they were born? Have you visited Montezuma? There are a lot of Felton's there and one of the Felton Plantation houses still stands(Billy's Place).

Thank you for your response. Can we talk? I am so eager to know about any potential Felton family. How are you and how well are you into genealogy? My grandmother was my heart and best friend in the whole wide world. I miss her so much. It's saddening to find that I can't find any Georgia family. She didn't talk much about home and when she did, she would giggle something about her cousin, Jimmy(ie) Felton, cousin Harriet and she had a cousin she had me to write to named cousin Stella. Thanks for this opportunity. Tell me about you, if you don't mind.

Willie Felton from the Houston county, Ft Valley Georgia area

The only advise I could give you is that Willie's Family (being from Houston Co)may be from Macon Co which was annexed in the 1830. Felton's run throughout the area.

I have Mary Graves's parents as John Graves b. 1825 and Mary Polly Cline b. 1832. Hope that was helpful.

Felton Family in Shropshire

Hello All,

I'm trying to trace my family in Shrophire through the 1700s and 1800s. It's a bit confusing because there seems to be three generations of Richard Feltons who were all married to Marys. My own research suggests as follows:

1. Richard Felton (died in 1776) was married to Mary Griffiths - one of their children was:

2. Richard Felton (born 1737) was married to Mary Hall - one of their children was:

3. Richard Felton (1789-1861) was married to Mary Moyle (married in 1809) - one of their children was Thomas Felton (1817-1887).

4. Thomas's son, Cornelius Felton travelled to Ireland in 1860s and got married there, but returned to England later in life

All seem to have been based in Ludlow, Shropshire.

Can anyone confirm the above and provide any further info, dates etc. - in particular, bring me back any further in time.

Really appreciate your help

Chris

WENATCHEE, WASH. – “With heavy hearts, we report the passing of Marilyn Jane (Felton) Abraham Schulz Brewer on July 30, 2011, in Wenatchee.”

“Janie” was born to Harry and Lola Felton on July 28, 1931, in Youngstown, Ohio.
As an only child, she brought great joy to her parents.

She was active in the Delason Methodist Church, singing in the choir, both there and with the Glee Club in her high school. She made many friends, whom she missed and spoke of fondly in later years. After graduation from South High School, class of 1949, Youngstown, she attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria, Ill., graduating with her diploma in 1952.

She married John C. Abraham VI, in February of 1952, then moved to Anaheim, Calif., where Jack was based while serving in the Navy. She and her son, John, returned to Youngstown in 1956. She continued her vocation as a nurse, both at McKelvey’s Department store and Madison on the Lake.

In 1961, she married Richard A. Schulz, with whom she later had a daughter, Susan.
During her remaining years as a resident of Youngstown, she worked at a variety of locations as a registered nurse, including as a school nurse in the Austintown School System. She attended the Lockwood United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir.

In 1970, she moved to Fort Myers, Fla.
while working as Head Nurse at Lee Memorial Hospital, she met Nelson O. Brewer, a Respiratory Therapist. They were married on Dec. 31, 1970. In 1980, they moved to Morgantown, W.Va., where both worked many years at Monongalia General Hospital.
In 1990, they retired to Lehigh Acres, Fla., where they enjoyed family and friends, church and veterans’ groups, bowling leagues and cruises.

After the death of her husband, Nelson, she traveled visiting family, until finally setting up house at Sterling House of Lehigh Acres. Upon the death of her mother, Lola Felton, at the age of 100, Janie moved to Riverwest Assisted Living in Wenatchee, in order to live closer to her son, John and his family.

All who knew Janie will miss her smile, positive attitude and frequent laughter.

She is survived by her children, John C. Abraham Schulz of Wenatchee and Susan L. Schulz of Struthers, Ohio. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Amber (Schulz) Petersen, Jason Schulz, Ricky Schulz and Gregory Schulz; and great-grandchildren, Hailey Schulz, Ethan Petersen and Caroline Petersen.

A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Lee Memorial Park in Lehigh Acres.

Mahoning

Dear N.C.. I wish I could help you in your search, but I descend from the Northern line that comes from Nathaniel Felton who came to Salem, Ma. in 1633 from Great Yarmouth, England. I did have contact with a man several years ago who had a lot of records of what happened to many that wwere slaves in the areas that you mention,
After several letter back and forth I just simply didn't hear from him again. I always felt he must have died. I don't know what happened to the records that he told me about, I wish I did as he said it was everything from the late 1600's to the time of the Civil War and a little bit after. Sincerely, Cora

Hello, my name is Cora Felton Anderson and I am the Felton Family Historian. I have been away at the Felton Family reunion and just found your message. in all likely-hood there were two marriages in this family One to a Felton and one to the other name. This was common because wives often died in childbirth and they would need to remarry as soon as possible. please contact me at; felton96@aol.com

I am researching my husband's great-grandmother. The family Bible shows her as Mary Elizabeth (Wheeler) Bowmaster, born May 5, 1850. All census of her as Mrs. Bowmaster give her birth place as Illinois. However, a clipping from the May 5, 1933 Brand Rapids (MI)Press saved by her son is an obituary for a George W. Felton, 68, formerly of Grandville, MI. Listed as a survivor is Mrs. Elizabeth Bowmaster of Jamestown (my husbands great-grandmother) and a half-brother, Albert Jaynes of Grandville. The mystery is how did she have a brother surnamed Felton, yet have a maiden name of Wheeler. I certainly hope you can help me clear up this mystery.

I lived there for 7 1/2 years and have 2 sons and 4 grands living in Portland.
I''m actually trying to trace the plantation that my side of the Feltons were on. They're from pasquatank, perquimmans, Ahoskie & Hertford. Are you by chance related to any from these areas? I do know that 2 sons were separated during childhood in slavery & the families reconnected later.

Specifically I am trying to find the names of his parents and wife. For some reason he does not appear (with the correct information) in the Census records of 1920 and 1930. I was wondering if anyone may have first hand knowledge of this family.

Thank you

I have just replied to you on another thread of this board. You sent me a source for my family. I guess we are related from the original settler: John Henry Felton. I did not have the Hamilton information. Thanks. I have some information linked to John Henry from [BURGERT, ANNETTE K. Eighteenth Century Emigrants from the Northern Alsace to America. Camden, ME: Picton Press, 1992. 690p.] from Ancestry.com. It has a Joh. Heinrich Felton and wife Eva Gallmann and six children coming to PA in 1767. Have you seen that?

My line:

John Henry Felton + Maria Eve Gallman
Christian Felton + Margaret Hellerman
Christian Felton + Catherine Clingerman
Jacob Felton + Elizabeth Karns
Anthony Karns Felton + Amanda Derr

Yes, that is my family. Thank you for the source. My line comes from Jacob who married a Elizabeth KARNS, through their son, Anthony Karns FELTON. He was a Lutheran minister who lived for awhile in Kansas. I didn't know that he had an uncle there as well. I would love any other information about this line.

Announcing the Velten Family DNA Project

The objective of this project is to determine whether there is any relationship between the various geographic clusters of persons with the Velten surname, including all spelling variants such as Velton, Veltin, Felten, and Felton. By recruiting and testing descendants of patriarchs in the various regions, and using y-DNA technology, we can hopefully determine whether relationships exist and how distant they are.

The Velten surname is a Saint's name, the Germanic version of the Latin name Valentine. It is believed the name originated in Europe, but through centuries of emigration, persons bearing the Velten surname and its various phonetic spelling variations are found around the world, in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Australia and elsewhere.

The name occurs in Germany (in Rheinland-Pfalz, Baden, Saarland, and Hessen-Nassau) and is even more common in Alsace. It also occurs in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Since it is a Saint's name, there may be no connection between these groups. But various historical events such as the Thirty Years War caused migration, and so there may indeed be a connection. Join our project and help us find the connections.

If you are a male with one of the surname variations and you have a pedigree back several generations, and preferably to an origin point in Europe, then please consider joining the project and adding your data to the database. If you are female, you can still join the project by using a male relative (father, brother, cousin, husband, etc.) as a y-DNA donor. Testing is provided by Family Tree DNA, which has the largest genetic database and supports more than 6000 surname projects. You can join the project at http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Velten&am... and qualify for the project discount on testing fees.
