Lord Felton?

I was recently browsing some history books, and came upon one that said that my family of Feltons descended from a "second son of a Lord Felton." My ancestor was Prudence FELTON, b. 1801 - Washington Co., MD/d. 07 Jul 1864 - Horse Shoe Run, Preston Co., VA/WV. She m. 08 Nov 1825 - Frederick Co., VA to Abraham Daniel WOTRING, b. 27 Oct 1804 - Aurora, Preston Co., VA/WV/d. 13 Jun 1891 - Frederick Co., VA. Her parents were John FELTON and Mary Eleanor McHENRY of Ryan's Glade, MD and WV. Her grandfather's name was Benjamin, and according to the history books, the Feltons came from England in 1732 and settled in MA. I would be most interested in finding out who this "Lord Felton" is, who the second son was, and the line to Prudence. As well, is the line provable? Any and all help is appreciated.

Herschel was my great great grandfather, and I would really like to find a picture of him and his family - electronic or otherwise (have scanner, will travel). My grandpa remembers Herschel (his grandfather) pretty well, but all of the pictures that came to his side of the family were lost in a house fire. I would love to fill in this hole, both for my grandpa and for the rest of my family.

Thanks!

Stephanie

Felton family in Canada

I'm looking for information about the Felton family in Montreal. I have no acurate information past my grand-father: Albert Felton, whose spouse was Leda Frappier. Among their kid's were Aime, Albert, Rosario, Rene, Raymond (aka Bernard), Marcel and Madeleine.

If the information I have is correct, Albert's father was the first in the family to come to Montreal but no one seems to know where he came from... His name was probably Michael but again, I'm not sure.

If anyone knows something, it would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Felton researchers
I have found various dates among your postings. Some are obviously incorrect. For example, John Felton, born 1760 in Prince Georges Cty. MD, was in Revolutionary War. He was much too young to be in the Rev. War.
I need proof of War Service for the ancestor of John Felton, b Mar 09, 1804 in Cumberland, MD
Perhaps it was this John Felton's grandfather who served in the Rev.
Has anyone heard a story of a Felton boy being abducted from his family in France when he was 12 years old? The boy was left in America once the ship arrived and never saw or heard from his family again.

Also, I am still looking for further information on Nathan and Mary Etta Graves Felton.

If anyone has heard this story before, please email me directly at bgraves34@texoma.net.

Thanks,
Bonnie

Mary GRAVES in either Sydney or Evening Shade in Izard Co., AR before 1890. They had several children that connect with my GRAVES family line:

Almar FELTON: b. 17 Aug 1891 near Gamaliel, AR. (I have no idea where Gamaliel is located in AR.) Almar m. Merrick ANDERSON. She died in 1977.

Eva "Evie" FELTON: b. 9 Oct. 1984 near Evening Shade, AR. She died in 1989. She married Charles "Charlie" ANDERSON.

Charlie FELTON: b. 14 Feb 1887 near Gamaliel, AR. He died in 1990. Charlie married Susan "Susie" ANDERSON.

Merrick, Charles, and Susan ANDERSON were all siblings.

I am needing information on who exactly was Mary GRAVES. Who was her parents? When and where was she born? I am wondering if there is a connection of this Mary GRAVES to my GRAVES family from IL who had several family members travel with them from IL to MO to AR.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I will be happy to share what little information I have on this family line also.

Thank you,
Bonnie Graves
bgraves34@texoma.net

Elias Felton b. abt 1815 SC d abt 1857 LA son Richard goes to TX

In 1850, Elias (35 b. SC) and wife Sarah E (31) were in Chicot County, AR with daughters Rachiel E(16) and Harriet P(13) both born in SC. They lived very near Ralph G. Alsobrook.

By 1860, Elias and wife are apparently dead, having died in LA in about 1857. In 1860, there was a Richard and Julia Felton living in Carroll Parrish, LA with William M. Alsobrook as orphans. Julia was 7 b. AR and Richard was 3 b. LA. Carroll Parish and Chicot County bordered each other.

By 1870, Richard is with a John Felton in Smith County, Texas--John being just a little older than Elias was and also born in SC. I'm assuming this was a big brother to Elias. Just like I'm assuming Elias was Richard's dad. Therefore, I think John was uncle to Ricard, but 1870 census did not list kinship.

In 1880, Richard was likely the R. Felton boarding with W. B. Lowry as a laborer in Smith County.

I have no idea what happened to his sister Julia. She likely married after 1870, and I have been unable to figure out who she married.

Any help confirming any of this would be greatly appreciated. And if anyone knows the relationship Elias had with William M. Alsobrook, I'd love to know that, too.

I am looking for Charlotte Henretta Felton, born on August 7, 1827 in Lubz, Germany. She married Frederick Johann Schenning in Rostock, Germany on December 29, 1847. They immigrated with their first son Albert sometime between 1851-1853 traveling to Cleveland, Ohio. They ran a boarding house for a few years before moving to Wisconsin. Charlotte had a half brother named William Paglow who lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I do not know which immigrated first or why they first settled in Ohio. Was there family there? Does this sound familiar to anyone?
My grandfather was born in Hadley, England, in 1880, he had 2 half brothers (born about 1870 in Dawley according to the 1881 census) who apparently both emigrated to Birmingham Alabama (I don't know when, presumably 1890-1900?). Their names were possibly William and George. I'd be interested in any information on this branch of my family.

Phil.

Grief/Green FELTON in SC-GA-AR

A few years ago there was a brief discussion in the FELTON surname query board on Genealogy.com, regarding ancestors and descendants of Grief/Green FELTON of AR. It was presumed he was a descendant of Harrell FELTON of NC/SC. Grief appears in the 1850 census for Prairie County, AR with wife and children. My interest concerns a daughter of his named Dinna/Diana. It is possible she is the same Diana FELTON that married Allen Hirum SWAIM in 1850, and was accidentally counted twice on the same census -- once with her parents, and once with her new husband. Or could it be a coincidence, and two different women? I am trying to find a connection.
If anyone has information on this family, ancestors and descendants included, I would welcome any assistance you could offer. Thanks.

I am searching for ANY information on Mack Felton. The info that I have is: He left Macon County, Ga.@ the 1870's. He was married to Mollie(Molly)Foster. Their children were Charlotte, Alonzo, Millie, Golena, and Wilo. Mack and Mollie moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas from Macon Couny. Mack reportedly was a preacher. I am just about to give up but I'm still hanging on by a slim thread of finding any background info. Any ideas? Help. Mack and Mollie are African American

He was listed as Frank Felton b 1863 in Wis. By 1880 his name was changed to Frank Halsey. He possibly had a younger brother. Who died after coming to the Halsey residence. But before the 1870 census. Any information would be appreiciated.

Felton Coat of Arms Hangs in Chapel of St Georges, Windsor Castle

Information from Cora Felton Anderson stated that the Felton family crest hangs in the Chapel of St Georges at Windsor Castle in England. I recently visited this site, and can verify this fact.

The Felton Family Crest hangs on the South Side #19, Crest #5 at The Chapel of St Georges, Windsor Castle, Windsor, England. It is positioned on its side, which the chapel staff claims signifies that it is very old.

"1381 - Sir Thomas Felton fought at Crecy, Poictiers and at the siege of Calais. Emissary for the Black Prince to Don Pedro of Castile. Seneschel of Bordeau. Caused William de Pommiers and his son to be beheaded for treason."

From the book of “Order of the Garter” at The Chapel of St Georges, Windsor Castle, Windsor, England. July 9, 2002.

The Order of the Garter was started by Edward III. The black Prince was his son.

I was unable to take a photo, as this requires advanced permission in writing from the Dean of the chapel. Perhaps if other Felton relatives visit Windsor Castle, they can obtain this permission in writing ahead of time, and share the photos with the rest of us.

Just passing along some history.

Best regards,
David Felton

PS: Cora - Thank you for the lead! It was a wonderful experience at Windor Castle. Apparently having a "Knight of the Garter" from the 1300's is "quite something" as I was told there.
Stephen FELTON b. 1797 NC

I am looking for the birth family of Stephen FELTON who was born about 1797 in North Carolina. He married Jemima AMASON, daughter of Manoah AMASON and Jerusha MOORE, on November 25, 1823 in Edgecombe Co., North Carolina. A Thomas FELTON was listed on the marriage bond. Jemima's sister Cynthia married a Job FELTON. He may have had a younger brother or older son from a previous marriage named Warren FELTON born about 1821 in North Carolina. Other children included Maria J., Manoah J., James G., Jerusha, and Thomas A. The obituary of Stephen's granddaughter Frances said that she was related to Rebecca Latimer FELTON but I don't know what that relationship was. Stephen died in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana after 1850.

I recently accessed this board and came accross the message posted by Faye Pauli. She stated that her greatgrandmother was Catherine Felton who married a Lewis Bonheimer. These were also my greatgrandparents. My grandmother was Matilda Bonheimer who married Henry S. Lininger. They lived on a farm in Stark Co. Ohio near Canton for many years before moving to Canton during WWII. I believe that there was another child in addition to those listed by Faye.My mother was Mary Catherine Lininger and she often talked about her Uncle Bill(William).I have an aunt still living near Canton that gave me the name of Bill's grandson who moved from Canton to St. Louis, MO, and she said that he has a book on the Bonheimers. I have written to him but so far have received no reply.Other brothers and sisters mentioned by my aunt are Charles, Mary and Annie. I do not have any info on these.Would appreciate any info on Catherine or Lewis.
