mars hill - Vanessa Diane Ammons Fender, 53, of 91 Maple Dr. died, Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Mrs. Fender was the daughter of the late Samuel Ball and Fannie Mae Ammons.

She is survived by her husband Ragan Fender, daughters Kendra Rogers and husband Richard, Nicole Sexton and husband Eric, Natalie Carter and husband Brent; brothers Royce, Danny and Gerard Ball; grandchildren Kadan, Josiah and Isabella; and a best friend Teresa Anders.

A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Friday, December 9, at Upper Laurel Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Revs. Cline Hensley Jr. and Royce Ball will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm, Thursday, December 8, at Blue Ridge Funeral Service.

I happened upon your post snd found it intersting as my g-g-grandfather, Alexander Fender, was also from Dundee. He was, however, born in 1811 and immigrated to New York approx. 1839 before settling in Wisconsin in 1841. I have, unfortunately, not found anything else about him or his family while he was in Scotland. I'm sorry I can't help you any, but if you ever run across any information regarding the Fender's in Dundee, please post here if you would. Hope you are able to find some answers.

Hello,

I am looking for any descendents in Dundee Scotland of Edward Cummings Alexander Fender (first marriage to Elizabeth Reid Anderson). He was born in Dundee Scotland and died in Akron Ohio. His children were George Fender, Elizabeth Fender Duncan and Edna Fender Naerhring.

Recently my mother passed and I was left with a suitcase with some old photographs that were taken in Dundee. Not only would I love to find family in Dundee, I would like to collaborate on these photo's and identify those within.

Thank you for the help on information in Dec. last year I did find the Jon David on facebook didn't feel right about contacting him so looked in his friends list and ended up contacting his great grandmother. And found out yes indeed the one on facebook is a teen and my adoptive son's half brother on their birth mom's side.

My Mary Gladden (which was her maiden name) was born abt. 1837 in Marion township (no state was given, but possibly Pa.) Her parents were John and Elisabeth Gladden. I do not have any info on them yet. My Mary married Michle (or Michael) Pfinder, date unknown. She died on March 13, 1894 from consumption (T.B.) I have sources of her having lived in Franklin, Greene County, Pa. She is buried in Eakin Cemetary in Gilmore, Greene County, Pa.

I am unsure as to siblings, or where she grew up at this point. I just stumbled into this line.

Alice Robinson Fender, 75, of Bald Mountain went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Brookside Rehabilitation and Care. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Biss and Georgia Ray Robinson and the wife of Buster Fender who died in 2006. She was also preceded in death by a daughter: Carolyn Lynn Fender, 3 sisters: Pansy, Grace and Lucy; and a brother: J.B. Robinson.

Surviving are a daughter: Deniese Phillips and husband, Ronnie; 3 sons: Morrise Fender and wife, Marlene, and Jason Fender all of Burnsville, and Russell Fender of Weaverville; grandchildren: Leslie Bryant, Chasity Fender, Megan Fender and Jamie Phillips; a great grandson: Levi; 2 sisters: Fairy Tipton and Violet Berliner of Burnsville; and a sister-in-law: Jessie Robinson of Burnsville.

Funeral services will be held at 8PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday in the Bruce Fender Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Yancey County.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Brookside Rehabilitation and Care and Hospice of Yancey County for the care given to their mother.

Lillian Bundy, age 87, of 634 Galax Drive, Erwin, Tennessee, passed away Monday morning, May 16th, 2011, at her residence.

She was born in 1923 in Yancey County, NC. She was the daughter of the late William Marion and Mary Fender.

Lillian was a Licenced Practical Nurse. She was employed by Dr. Roark and Dr. L.D. Mullins for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for several years.

Other than parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E.W. Bundy, Jr., five sisters, and two brothers.

Lillian is survived by one son, Earl W. “Butch” Bundy, III and wife Sandy of Johnson City, and two daughters, Louise Beck and husband Jerry of Kingsport, and B.J. Bundy of York, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Gabe Beck of Knoxville, and Robyn Dietter of Ashburn, Virginia; four great grandchildren: Conner, Jaden, Caden and Ian; one sister in law, Nell Fender, Canton, North Carolina, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M., Friday, May 20, 2011, in the chapel of Robert Ledford Funeral Home with Reverend Tony Rutherford officiating. Special music will be provided by Inez Chandler.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. preceding the service at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.

Since this thread was written I have added numerous ancestors in Germany to the Fender tree (And connected them to other Fender descendents who also immigrated to USA).

A cousin found the family's immigration aboard the brig "Columbia" Aug 2, 1837. The ship manifest listed the family village Jeckenbach, which is in Meisenheim, Duchy of Zweibruken, Germany. That allowed a search of church records in the area. The name "Fender" was spelled "Venter"in Germany .

Asheville ~ God reached his powerful hands through the clouds of Glory on the wonderful and beautiful day of April 19, 2011 and said to James Edward Fender Sr., 79, "you have been a wonderful and faithful soldier and your work on Earth is completed so come home now and join the Golden Army of God".

James Fender was born on January 26, 1932 in Erwin, TN. He was a farmer until joining the US Navy in 1948 and serving until 1950. While in the Navy, he received the China Service Medal while serving aboard the USS Pasadena (CL-65). He was a charter member of Skyland First Baptist Church and served as chairman of the Deacon Board. During his early years of farming, he worked for Biltmore Dairy Farm, but went on to retire as a salesman and pawnbroker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lee Butler Fender; his father, Gaither Fender; his mother, Rebecca Tipton Fender and two brothers, Charles and Harold Fender.

Mr. Fender is survived by three sons, James Edward Fender Jr. and his wife, Jo Eleanor of Marion, Ricky Eugene Fender of Asheville and Mickey Charles Fender and his wife, Donna, of Hendersonville; three brothers, Ted Fender and his wife, Faye, of Hampton, TN, Levi Fender and his wife, Joyce, of Leicester and Wayne Fender and his wife, Jean, of Fletcher; a sister, Ima Jean Wilson of Fletcher as well as two grandsons, three granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 22, 2011 at Skyland First Baptist Church and will be officiated by Reverend David Honeycutt and Dr. Carl Mintz. Interment will follow at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Do You have a name in particular. There are quite a few that lived in Greenwich, ST Pancras and the 'City of London. Most of the Fenders in th 'City' were servants but there are a few that made the lofty heights and had servants of their own. If you have anyone in mind let me know and I will have a look on my spreadsheets. they go back as far as 1750's for that area. I am stll searching and adding to the list.

Marshall - Rellie Fender Peek, 90, of Marshall, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2010.

Mrs. Peek was born March 17, 1920 in Madison County where she had lived all of her life. She was a member of Foster Creek Baptist Church. Rellie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cora Fagan Fender and husband, Ernest Dewey Peek, six sisters and six brothers.

Grady Fender, 87, of the Bald Creek Community, passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Charles and Cenia Tolley Fender and was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Fender. A World War II Army Veteran, Grady was a member of Bald Mountain Free Will Baptist Church. He was a life-long farmer.

Jon David Fender Jr. would be 13, David Allen Fender would be 16 and Annmarie Fender would be 15. I am looking for them so I can find out if it's true. As you can see, this post was some five years ago, and I don't really recall where I was going with it. However, it seems that we may be 2nd cousins. My great grand father was Akity Fender and I presume that to be the same with you. I don't really remember Robert but I do remember Elsie and Marjorie visiting San Diego in about 1962. My grand mother stayed in contact with Elsie for many years as I recall. I imagine I was probably seeking information going back past Alexander Fender as I still have little to go by. Mr. James D. “J.D.” Fender, age 89, of Marion, died Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Autumn Care of Marion. Mr. Fender was born in Madison County on March 12, 1920 and was a son of the late Wilbern and Elsie Culberson Fender. He retired from Marion Mfg. Company as a Loom Fixer. Preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Dora Ann Goins.
Surviving Mr. Fender is his wife, Elmorrow “Red” Freeman Fender, of the home; two sons: Jerry S. Freeman and wife Dorothy of Hickory and Kenneth R. Freeman and wife Marcia of Marion; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Also surviving Mr. Fender are several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Bruce Ward officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

L.D. 'Buck' Fender
Marshall - L. D. Buck Fender, 88, of Marshall, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009.

Mr. Fender was born July 17, 1921 in Madison County where he had lived all of his life. He farmed for a living and attended Foster Creek Baptist Church. Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Vina Roberts Fender; and his wife of 65 years, Jessie Fender.

Surviving are his daughters, Wilodine Rhodes (Paul) of Willard, N.C. and Phyllis Bradley (Billy) of Marshall; grandchildren, Lynette Tatum (Gary) of Winnabow, N.C., Lindsey Wolfe of Asheville and Andy Wolfe of Marshall; great grandchildren, Jessica Dean Collins, Scotty Dean Collins, Jr. and Dawson Wolfe; sister, Irene Peek of Marshall and brother, Jarvis Fender of Weaverville.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Shelton Cemetery on Long Branch Road, Mars Hill, with the Rev. Ken Parker officiating.

Mr. Fender will lie in state from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Madison Funeral Home.

I just encountered this family today while searching for my Fenders in Ohio. According to his death record, this Adam, who lived in Darke and Preble Cos. Ohio, was the son of Christian and Mary(Schlagel)Fender. He was born 1845 in Germany, the same year as my G-grandfather Adam Fender, the son of Jacob and Rebecca (Kirkendall) Fender, was born in Putnam Co. Ohio.

I really don't have too much except that he was the oldest son of David Fender (1786) and I am not sure of his mother.
The wife I have for David is Mary "Mollie" Hires married
2811/1814 and the birth of Martin (1803) and his sister Sarah (1812) are both before that date, so I am not sure if Mary is the mother or if he was married before that.

I have seen several other postings on Vercy as I am sure you have but I have not been able to find any more on her.
In case you do not have it I have Martin Married 1st to Martha Tomlinson and then to Mary Mainor. I do not have a list of the children but mother had in her notes 11 children. Where she got that information I do not know, but possibly from Winkie Jones as I know they corresponded.

Martin Fender born 1805-8 somewhere in that time.
Apparently Sarah Ann was not the most obiedent daughter and no one knows where she is buried.

John Martin Fender 1885-1957

I have seen several family trees listing him as married to a Mattie. "Uncle Martin" was my grandmother's brother. She was Eliza Jane Fender Nix and we visited Uncle Martin & Aunt Nolie often when I was a child, it was one of my favorite places to go.

My mother started researching our family a number of years ago, I inherited this task when she was no longer able to keep it up or remember things very well. In her notes and I would say most of this she remembered when she wrote it, John Martin Fender b.5/16/1885 married Pinky Hill 4/24/1913
they divorced after the birth of a child (this child is the one I am interested in). In 1941 Uncle Martin married his stepmother Magnolis Bottom House Fender. Magnolia was James Henry (Bud) Fender's 2nd wife, he died 12/1/1940.

When mother was small she used to go and stay with her grandfather and "Nolie".

Martin died 4/7/1957 and Magnolia died 12/26/1980 in Jacksonville, FL where her 2 children by her 1st husband lived. Mother stayed in touch with her until her death.

I hope this clears up some of the blanks in your family tree. If anyone has the information on John Martin and Pinky's child I would appreciate hearing from you.

His parents were James H. Fender and Hattie S. Fender, according to the 1900 and 1910 federal census. I have a copy of his death certificate which I got off the Ancestry.com and it says his father is J. H. Fender and his mother was Mattie Carter. His wife was Pearl B. Fender.
