Robyn - thanks, I didn't know that Farnworth was so small at that time. That information is definitely helpful.

Keith - I have been to the cemetery, thanks.

In June 2010 I took a photo of the headstone for Mary Fenney (spelled Fenny on the headstone)located at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Roxborough Township of Stormont County, Ontario, Canada. Not sure if you have visited this cemetery yet or not. It also shows information on David Norman. Unfortunately I have no info on her parents. Let me know if you'd like me to send the photo.

Regards,
Keith Braund
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
k.braund@hotmail.com

The Mary Fenney you have discovered that lived in Farnworth (between Prescot and Penketh in Widnes) is the village I reside in now. Most of the Fenney's in my family tree have lived in Fanworth. At the time, there was only maybe a couple hundred of people living there. It's most likely she is the one you found on the index entries.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply.

Mary Fenney, born about 1820, father Thomas Fenney, married David Norman in Liverpool in 1844. David and Mary moved to Canada and are my gg grandparents. I am trying to identify Mary’s parents.

The best match I have so far is Mary Fenney baptized 24 June 1821 at Farnworth (near Prescott), Lancashire, parents Thomas and Catherine (I only have an index entry on Ancestry and an IGI listing on FamilySearch to back this up though).

I found a Thomas and Catherine Fenney in the 1841 census in Farnworth, Prescott, Lancashire, along with Thomas age 20, Ellen 18, James 15, Catherine 14, Elizabeth 12.

With only index entries, I have no proof that the Thomas and Catherine from the 1841 census are my Mary’s parents. I'm hoping to find someone with better information about this family. It sounds like you are more familiar with this family, and you have no indication that they had a daughter named Mary.
What's your name??
Thomas Fenney is my Great-great-great-great grandfather.
He was born 1784 (d. 1863) and married a woman called Catherine Grace and yes we don't know her maiden names though she was born in 1791. She had two children I think. James M. Fenney who married Ellen PEWSILL, daughter of John Pewsill. They then had a child named John Fenney (unknown siblings)who married Mary Ann Atkinson and had a known child called Albert Fenney who is the father of my great grand mother, Ivy Fenney.

I have a Mary Fenny - 1815- 1895 (you know how the spellings can vary) who married Thomas Lomax 1814-1876 and they lived in Widnes. They were my Great-great-great Grandparents.

I've checked and I don't think there is a family connection between us but I'm writing because I've found a lovely website about the Westbank area of Widnes that you might find interesting. The address is

http://www.westbankheritage.org.uk/

Hi Pat,

Mick's on holiday at the moment, so I'm replying in his stead. We have two William Martindales, father and son. The son was born 7 March, 1802, the father, obviously, some time before that, but we have no date. Any connection?

Maureen

I was a Fenney, father Thomas Fenney, born 20th June 1890 in St Helens. His forebears all come from the St Helens/Prescot district. He moved to Doncaster with Pilkington Bros. in the 1920's. If you'd like to get in touch, we could compare notes.

Maureen Leighton

I believe you are somewhat related to my family (Surname FENNEY) My auntie Maureen has done a genealogy back to about 1730 of all my father's fathers. I can give you some info on it if you contact me. My grandfather was Thomas Fenney and was born in St Helens, Lancs. His wife was Esther and was born in Wigan, Lancs. There is various other info but as it is at home and I'm typing this at work, I will bring it in to give you more details. I'm pretty sure we are related somewhere along the line!
