Researching George Fenwick - Chester Brewery

I'm trying to find out the year George Fenwick moved from his home at Pelton House, Durham, England. He was one of the owners of Chester Le Street brewery. I think he moved 1770 - 1790 to Plawsworth.

I also would like to hear from anyone who has details of his son, Thomas Fenwick born 1772 Newcastle died 1852 Chester Le Street, Durham.

I have some information on the William Fenwick b. Nov 20, 1856 Vaughan Twp, Ontario. He married Margaret Ann Bell born Port Elgin Ontario. They had seven children.

Prior to their marriage they were living in somewhere aound New York. Just after maariage, they were listed in the census for Essex, NJ.

FENWICKs in West Verginia, from Northumberland, UK

On August 16 1903, my grandfather Thomas TAYLOR and his younger brother Samuel arrived from Seghill, Nortumberland, England, in New York on their way to join their cousin John FENWICK in Thurmond, Fayette, West Virginia.

As far as I am aware Thomas and Samuel only had brothers so the link of cousin must come from their wives, mother, or be slightly more distant. Thomas was married to Emma HUME, Samuel to Priscilla HAYES. Their mother was Ann Maria LEE/LEES and one of her sisters married into a CAUFIELD/CORFIELD family.

From the last time I tried to track down this link, I know that in the USA 1910 census for Mt Hope Town, Fayette County, W Virginia, there was a John FENWICK with wife Jane B, son Gladstone and daughter Margaret. I can find births for a Gladstone and Margaret in 1886 & 1887 but according to the 1910 census the emigrated to the USA in 1888 and so were not on the 1891 as a family and there are just too many marriages between a John Fenwick and a Jane for me to guess at which may be the one I nned.

So, if anybody has a Fenwick family who emigrated to the West Virginia with 2 small children in 1888 and knows of a connection to one of the names above, or even can just tell me the maiden name of Jane, I would be delighted to hear from them.

I have a lot of records of the Fenwick family that my husband is a descendant.

I see from the death information of John Fenwick that died in 1906 that no father was named - so that is quite a difficuty.

The Fenwicks that are related to "our" family in Queensland were descendants of Andrew and Elizabeth Fenwick who arrived in Sydney in 1850. The Queensland Fenwicks of our family are descended from John and Janet Fenwick who arrived in Brisbane in 1855.

I cannot see a Margaret Fenwick - possibly a single woman - amongst the descendants that I have a record of.

I cannot find the marriage of John and Isabel in the NSW Historical Marriages so it might be possible that they married before they arrived in Australia. it might be a good idea to look at shipping lists.

Hi I am a decendant of John and Isabella Fenwick. they had 8 children and their Daughter Hannah had a son (Raymond my grand father) before marriage. This line stayed in the Sydney area around Balmain, Thornleigh.

no this is my father. This is great! We knew he was a station hand prior to meeting our mother Shirley Hilton. We assume that it was one of these jobs that he became known to her family, possibly through my Grandfather Frank Hopper, my mothers step father. My father was named afterh his father who was Hannahs son Raymond and his middle names are his uncles. To have at least one of his droving jobs is fantastic. many thanks for your help. I am just having a look at Raymond FENWICK's WW2 papers. His DOB is given as 23.06.1904 at Annandale. His wife is given as Uneta Olive FENWICK, of "Avalon", Cathcart Street, Fairfield. This was in 1941.

Then a story in the SMH dated 26 November, 1945, about the near drowning of Edwin FENWICK, 15, of Cathcart Street, Fairfield. (Born circa 1930).

I can see them at various locations up until 1949, (thye at Hargrave Park, Sydney), then I notice a Raymond Leslie Eli FENWICK at Wiralla, Dynevon Downs, Eulo, QLD, station hand, with no other FENWICK's listed. Or is that the son of Raymond and Unita? Their sons death in 1966:

In 1918, when Elias FENWICK was killed in WW1, his mother Isabella FENWICK was living at Thornleigh.

The funeral notice for Isabel FENWICK, late of Goodland Avenue, Thornleigh, in the SMH dated 15 December, 1924, only mentions the sons, Leslie FENWICK and John FENWICK.

My GG grandfather, John Fenwick, came from England to the US. He was probably born about 1830-1840. He had to give his kids away at church when his wife died early. That is all I know. Do you think we are talking about the same John Fenwick?

George Fenwick's relationship as the son of Francis Fenwick is implied from a deed dated 9/30/1834--Rev. George Fenwick granted land to the children of his brother Francis and wife Eleanor--See Liber J.H #10 Folio 166, Leonardtown MD
and also a deed dated 7/21/1838 in which George & Julia Fenwick of Cooper County, Missouri, deeded their part of Swamp Island (St. Marys Co.) and Threlkeld's Addition (Georgetown) to George's sister Mary Fenwick.

These point to Francis Fenwick as being George's father (per manuscript of Charles E. Fenwick, Sr. [dec'd]).

I am trying to find out more Harold Cornelius Fenwick born in 1898 in Messingham Lincolshire/Humberside.

We understand his father to be James Fenwick and his mother to be Margaret Ann Fenwick.

We also understand that Harold moved to Nottinghamshire at some stage and had at least 2 sons, James Percy Fenwick and Harold Dennis Fenwick.
