So, in my digging, I have found out more information about my Ferdinand family members.

Joseph and Rebecca Ferdinand came over from Russia in 1891 and 1892 respectively. They married in 1893. They had six children - Morris, Samuel, Leo, Tillie, David and Emma. They lived in Chicago, IL and some moved to Peoria. Morris married a woman named Rae. Samuel married a woman named Florence. Leo married a woman named Lillian. David married a woman named Helen. Tillie got married but do not know to whom. I don't know if Emma ever got married. So if any of these names sound familiar to you, please email me at ericasf@msn.com.

Ok, so it's been a while since I updated here. I have more information. The farthest I have gotten so far is that there were two brothers, Samuel and Leo Ferdinand. They lived in Peoria and Chicago, IL. Sam had two children, Maxine and Sam. I am a descendant of Sam's. If this sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know! :-) You can email me @ ericasf@msn.com

Okaaaay, now, Mary Ferdinand, living in Surrey, UK - this caught my eye. The big question is ... what is the connection of you lot ;-) over the pond to the line of Ferdinands who left Portugal in the 17th century and lived in the East End (London equivalent of the Bronx) for over three centuries?

If you think there's a connection the guy with all the answers is not me but Peter Ferdinando:

e:peterferdinando@ntlworld.com

Hello,
I am John Nauffts adopted daughter Kathy. John Nauffts was Tina Nauffts brother. Have you heard from Jackie? I read your message and did not know Tinie had researched the family. Dad died August 27 1970. He lived on Neville St. in Dominion. He was a coal miner in #26. Besides Tinie, he had a brother Dick. His father was Joseph and his mother was mary. Dad married my aunt Mary. I am the biological daughter of Mary's niece. I hate to put it in those terms as John and Mary are my mom and dad in every sence of the word.
Pleae email me back as i always wantee to know more about dad's side of the family. Since dad died when i was seven i did not get much of a achance to learn more about his history...
Kathy

Hi Cindy,

My notes on Joseph Ferdinand, the first Ferdinand in Nova Scotia, are below. I have a copy of the petition and much more info down to the present day. It doesn't look like I have you, though.

Joseph's son, John, is the only child I've been able to trace forward. He married Sophia Teed, my 2c3r. Their daughter, Emeline, married James Wynn, my 1c3r. There are also some other marriages between Ferdinands and my family.

I'd be happy to share info.

Barbara

Notes
Joseph, from San Domingo, came to Nova Scotia in 1807 and petitioned for land in Cumberland County in 1817. His petition was not granted.

Census records state Ferdinand origin as Spanish. Joseph’s birth place may have been the San Domingo in the border area of Portugal and Spain. The area changed hands over the years. Alternatively, he may have been from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. There is some family lore that says he was from Madrid, Spain.

Ferdinand Name

Hello, I am a Ferdinand. My great great grandmother El
Elodie Decuir married William Ferdinand and had my great grandmother Coralie Ferdinand who married my great grandfather, Alfred Olivier (Tinet)and they had my father Eloges Olivier. All of this happened in New Iberia and Opelousas, La. My father married my mother Mary Ora Metoyer. Alfred was born in 1865. His father was Jean Baptiste Gaston Olivier (Tinet) who married Virginia Decuir. Now I have checked with a French database and there are Ferdinands in France, now perhaps there are also Ferdinands in Spain. I guess they travelled in those days also. But if you would click in on benoit.maury@libertysurf.fr you will find this name in his database. Marion

Gesine, you didn't say where you were from. I think they were noblemen. My names are William Ferdinand and Elodie Decuir Ferdinand; Coralie Decuir-Ferdinand (Olivier) all from New Iberia, La. Marion
