I'm looking for a James Ferguson. He was born in 1810 in Va. He moved to Barlow, Ohio. He married Rosemund Muchner in 1836. I believe his father was from Ireland. He passed in 1897. He was a Barlow Ferguson not a Newport Ferguson. Thanks! KM

Hi Dimples! I found you (again)! :) I vividly remember my mother (Anita Bunting) saying something about my father (William Charles Bittrolff) having a mother that was Cherokee Indian. I am actively searching for my fathers heritage, and your dad (Roger) was my Uncle. I would LOVE to know a lot more about who my dad's family was. I haven't heard anything about a Peter Ferguson though, but I'd love to know how he was related to my father, your uncle. A long time ago a woman named Nancy mentioned that you had a vast ancestry tree developed for your family. I would appreciate any help you could provide me. This is SO exciting to finally start learning about who I am genealogically speaking. :) Praying that you are well and that life is good for you. Warm regards, Andrea

Re: Mary Ferguson born 1804 Logie Stirlingshire Scotland

There are two marriages in the Parish of Logie to a John Ferguson and Mary Thomson.

The 1st one: 14 November, 1760
The 2nd one: 14 July, 1786

I estimate that your Mary Ferguson is of the 2nd marriage. The following children appear (if you need more detail I can pass that on) Mary b. 1788, John b. 1789, Marion b. 1790, Helen b. 1791, Kathrine b. 1795, James b. 1797 and lastly Jane b. 1799.

There does not appear to be a 2nd marriage for John Ferguson, who I would think may have been aged about 30 years at the time of his marriage – making him born about 1756 or if he was 25 years old born about 1761.

The 2nd John Ferguson could not be a son of the first marriage. John Ferguson who married Mary Thomson had a son John chr. 30 Jul 1775 in Logie Parish.

I would suggest you physically read the parish records to find out exactly where in the parish the family of the second marriage lived. It’s worth the arduous look.

I will keep you in mind as I’m getting more information of Ferguson’s each day. This family does not appear to be connected with the Paper Mills business the first family was involved with. These Ferguson folk were doing well financially, and for sure enjoyed good quality nutrition, plus domestic servants to help out for an easier life than most tenant farmers, or woollen weavers scratching out a living as best they could.

I own Logie: A Parish History both volumes - I will search for any references to Fergusons for you and keep you up to date.

I am very curious about all the Ferguson’s now – but they are as prolific as Campbell’s and not all of them are directly related. Same-name combinations are a curse to deal with.

Bye Lindah
Lindah, I wonder if you could help me. John Ferguson married Mary Thomson in 1760 in Logie. According LDS, their first Mary was born 1763 in Logie, their second Mary was born 1769 in Logie, their third Mary was born 1788 in Logie - 28 years after the marriage began. With this data, her birth year would be 1742 and before. From LDS, I found a birth for a Mary Thomson in 1736 in Logie with her parents being Alexander Thomson and Isobel Henderson. That would make Mary thomson 52 years old when she had the third Mary.
That is highly unlikely. Of course LDS could be inaccurate. Can you help me out.

John

Yes, it is a hard one for you. One Mary Ferguson was born Oct 1763, and died young, then the 2nd Mary was born May 1769 and obviously survived to adult hood (daughters of John Ferguson and Mary Thomson). I've just discovered this families extensive Paper Making Business (included Mills) and the wealth of John Ferguson. For three generations they have paper mills in many places, and shops in Glasgow, selling all manner of printed publications. Although originally they began making paper for the linen industry, they diversified. I even found a Ferguson in Canada in partnership with his brother-in-laws, but seriously cannot link yet, I need more time to research, but year wise it was time appropriate.

Bye Lindah

Lindah, thanks for your recent note. I have drawn the conclusion that my Mary Ferguson is not the daughter of Robert Ferguson and Jean Campbell. My Mary was born in Logie probably to William Ferguson and Mary Alexander in 1795. Another option is that John Ferguson and Mary Thomson were her parents with a Mary's birth in 1788. The 1841 and 1851 give very conflicting birth years.

Thanks again.

John
Kitchener Ontario Canada

That Mary Ferguson was chr. 31 Jan 1804, Logie Parish, Perthshire, Scotland. She was the 10th and last child of Robert Ferguson and Jean Campbell, during their married life were at the Mill of Aithrey for some time.

Jean Campbell inherited a liferent on the lands of Causewayhead from her father John Campbell. I'm searching the lines backwards and forwards of these Fergusons. Some children of this marriage went to live at Auchterarder, brothers Robert and John. Now if where Mary was born at Causewayhead, it would have faced nearby, biggest hill called Abbey Craig (or where the Wallace statue is now).

Yes it is all part of the ancient lands of Abbey of Cambuskenneth. My interests are Campbells, but the oldest son, John Ferguson inherited the rights to Causewayhead land through his Campbell mother Jean who pre-decased her husband Robert. I think Robert was runing things after his wife's death. I suggest you get to read a copy of Logie: A Parish History,Vol 2, p.137.

Then there was a John Campbell, probably brother to
Jean, who ended up a Paper Maker in Abereven and some of these Ferguson nephew's were also involved with him in this paper making business.

I'd be interested in a list of the names of your Mary Ferguson's children :) & can give the names of her siblings - if you feel we have the right 'Mary Ferguson' I hope this helps.

Bye Lindah
If you come across an Arthur Allen Ferguson and wife Adele in Norwalk after WWII, it is not connected. They were my parents who moved back to Greenwich. We are decended from Gurgunnock, Scotland and have ties primarily in the Pittsylvania County of Virginia since the late 1600s when John came over as an indentured servant.

Hope this helps eliminate things that come up in residence directories.

Donna Alleene Ferguson
originally, Greenwich,CT
donastacia@hotmail.com

His mother went to Hutchinson, Kansas in 1944 and had Charlie, my husband, and gave him up for adoption. We are looking to find him, or anything about him. We also know that he drove a truck for Jack Cooper Transport.

Hi Marie: Thank you for the info, I didn't think there were anymore of Eva's child alive. They were my fathers first cousins. Judging by the age I would imagine that Ted would be the closest to my father. I think my father was nine years older than Ted. I do recall my father saying that Ted or one of the other Ferguson was very tall, do you know if that is true? I am going to give you my e-mail address so we can communicate much faster.
Hi! It is very exciting to have found you. I just signed up for membership to Ancestry and your family tree gave me so many answers. It is hard to get information when the cooperation is not there amongst relatives. I am married to Eva's grandson thru Charles. Let me give you what little I have so far.
Eva and Theodore had four sons. Theodore H. Jr. is alive and living in Florida. He is about 90 years old. He married Anne Marie and they had a daughter named Michelle. Her whereabouts is unknown.
Richard J. was born on 1-24-1923 and d. 8/27/1999. SS# 043-14-9438. His last residence was Stamford, CT. He was divorced from ? . He had two daughters one was named 'Patty', believed named Patricia. Richard was estranged from his other three brothers most of his adult life.
George R. is alive and living with his wife near Theodore Jr. in Florida. (Called Uncle Teddy) He married Rose in May of 1952. They had a daughter and a son. George Jr. was born about 1957. The daughter is named Violet b. May 1959.Violet married Charles Heydet in June of 1988 and they have daughter named Krystal. Violet lives in Florida near George and Teddy.
Charles B. b.4/14/1924 d.5/7/1990 from a heart attack. He married Della Dellapietro on 10/21/0950. Della is still alive. Charles and Della had a son, Robert b. 7/5/1954. Robert married me, Marie, on 9/23/1978. We have two sons, Paul b.10/1/1984 and Mark b. 11/27/1987.
Unfortunately, that is all I have gotten since I started this search back in 2003. I have a question for you. Where did Eve and Theodore get married? Torrington, Ct. was a hearsay thought by my husband.
We currently live in Ct. but go to Norwalk often. There is an ill aunt on the Dellapietro side of the family in Norwalk visited often. I hope I answered some of your questions.
Marie Ferguson
My father use to mention the Ferguson's a lot when I was a little child, but remember very little. It would be great to get more info on Eva and her sons Ted, George and Richard. Are there anymore Ferguson's living in Norwalk,Ct. and the surrounding areas? Any info will be deeply appreciated.

Regards;
Thomas Bogardus Sr.

Peter Ferguson, Rockland, Maine

I have no connection to this family. This appeared in the Feb. 8, 1923 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Courier Gazette in a column entitled Folks and Things:

“Peter Ferguson, who has managed the barber shop of Frank C. Powers on Tillson avenue, fell afoul of some hootch Tuesday, and thus emboldened he hit the proprietor’s wife a clout in the eye. This little deed of valor cost him $25, plus costs, amounting to $32.46 in all. Mr. Powers appears to be provided with a forgiving disposition, for he paid the fine. Mrs. Powers watched the court proceedings with a pair of keen eyes, one of which was much blacker than nature ever intended. Ferguson shook the dust of Rockland from his feet yesterday, having enlisted in the Army and started for Georgia.”

Mom was not sure whom the baby was. I am Rosie's grandson, I have meet your family. I remember Aunt Carlie coming to visit Grandmom and Granddad at Hazel, Route 2. The last time I saw Charles was at the Ferguson reunion at Leon Whitlacth's home in Columbia, TN. I have found Abner in the 1850 Calloway County census, District #2, Page 839. He was the son of Garrett Fergason and Lucy Elkin's. Still trying to find out what his middle name was, he is listed as Abner J. I have also found Josephine Rushing in 1860 Trigg County census living with Albert G. Rushing and Delila Miles, her parents. Alberet was a flat boat operater on the Tennessee river. I am still working on finding where they Abner and Josephine are buried. You can e-mail me at hgalton@wk.net I have more on some of the family.

Abner Ferguson, married to Josephine Rushing. He lived until at least some time in 1925. The baby in the picture is Charles Steele, born in December, 1924 (assuming you are looking at the same 4 generation picture). Charles is my uncle. He died in 2008.
I have been told that Abner lived in Arkansas.

Swan Ferguson of Callaway, MO

Has anyone from this familiy submitted DNA to the Ferguson Project? Just wondering if he may connect to my William Ferguson from Albemarle Co. There are several mentions of a Swanney Ferguson in Albemarle records. Still looking for my William's missing brother and for a long time thought that this Swanney might be the brother, however, he just vanished into thin air.
Thank,
Dorene Stevenson

James' other children

Upon reading this obituary for my biological grandfather whom I had never met, I've noticed one thing oh wait four things or people in which were not mentioned. He fathered four additional children with my grandmother Charlotte Mae Hollabaugh, 3 daughters and 1 son whom of which is my father. He also has 5 additional grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren from his life spent with my grandmother. It is unfortunate that he did not take the opportunity to share in the lives of his other four children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I have always known of him but we had never met and I have also heard stories from my dad, gram, and aunts about him and now after seeing that he did not acknowledge them in his life, I understand why the stories were not of fond memories, and I am disappointed to have even been genetically related.

Rush Forrest Ferguson

Trying to clear up a "mystery". Looks as if Rush Forrest Ferguson (1866-1939)was born four years after the given date of death for his father, Thomas Ferguson (1828-1862). The lineage continues with Thomas Ferguson Sr. (1780-1866), Robert Ferguson (1700-1794). Will gratefully accept any hints as to a solution.
