Kelly,
You only have three of the four children born to William and Gladys Ferris. Gladys had another son named Dillwyn Llewellyn who was born in Wales in 1917 and came to USA with them in 1923 along with Gwen Matthews. I am Dillwyn's granddaughter. When my grandfather died, my family obtained his birth certificate and found out that the day we thought was his birthdate (month/day) was actually not it but that of Dillon. The few family stories always portrayed Gladys in less than favorable light but after I saw that she disregarded by grandfathers true birthdate and gave him the birthdate of his dead infant brother and a name that was somewhat similar (Dillon v. Dillwyn), now I truly understand why my family never speaks of ancestors beyond my grandfather. I did know of his sister Jeanne but do not recall meeting her at all. However, I knew Uncle Trevor well. I can tell you information about my grandfather, my father and his brother but that is about all the family I know on the Ferris tree. I don't even know my grandmother's maiden name (she died when I was 22 months old). Hope this information helps you. How are you related to William Ferris?

My great grandmother's name was also listed as Ferris and she never came to the US. She was born in the small Northern Lebanon village of Wadi Kannoubine and that is where she spent her whole life. She married my great grandfather, Elias El HIndi, (later changed to Hendy) who came to the US (VT) after she passed away, leaving his 5 kids behind in Lebanon with either his mother or mother-in-law. Other family documents her surname as Coury and/or Gollob/Goleb. I have no idea if our Lebanese Ferris' are related but I do wish you luck!

John Ferris - William Byars

John Ferris b. approx. 1787 in Pennsylvania is my 4th great grandfather. Because of how vague the census was in those days, I can't find anything about his ancestors. His daughter, Lucinda, married Reed Hale. I've noticed in many family trees, William I Byars is listed as father and Sarah Bedford as mother of John Ferris. I can't find anything that supports that a "John Ferris" would be the son of "Byars" and wonder if there was something I'm missing. If you have any information, please respond. Thanks

I am looking for the descendants of Joseph Ferris born 14 May 1864 in Co. Tyrone. He emigrated to the States with his older brother Thomas circa 1885. I know from his sister Catherine (Ferris) Quigley 's obituary notice that he was alive and residing somewhere in New York in 1944. I have been told that he may have a granddaughter called Rose Mahoney. Can any one help me in tracing this family?

Dorothy E. Ashbaugh Ferris, 95,born ,in Duquesne, Pa.,daughter of Helen and Merle Ashbaugh

Dorothy E. Ashbaugh Ferris, 95,
was released into the arms of her Lord and her dear husband, Ralph, on Friday, October 14th after a long, fruitful life. Dorothy was born on March 9, 1916, in Duquesne, Pa., the eldest daughter of Helen and Merle Ashbaugh; and graduated from Duquesne High School. She married Ralph Ferris after patiently waiting the six years he attended Penn State University. Dorothy and Ralph eventually settled in Erie where they had three children, became very active in their church, Simpson Methodist, and in their community until Ralph's tragic death in an auto accident in 1959. Alone, she went on to raise her three children and expanded her involvement in the church and community. Dorothy volunteered at the Veteran's Hospital and logged in over 1000 hours of service. At her church, she taught Sunday School for over 60 years, first in the primary departments and then the adult classes. She served as president of the United Methodist Women and was a District representative. She also served on Simpson's official board and was the cook for countless church dinners and luncheons. She was honored by the Epworth Guild as the official prayer giver. Dorothy took her cooking skills to become a cook and, eventually, the baker, for the Sarah Reed Retirement Home and became certified in institutional nutrition. After retiring, she continues to maintain her own home until the age of 94, amazing everyone with her ability to remember everything. She read, did crossword puzzles ("not the easy ones in the paper") and could coax a bloom out of any plant. She was probably one of the Pittsburgh Pirates' biggest fans and was thrilled to attend a game for her 90th birthday. Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph; her brother, Raymond Ashbaugh, and her sister, Glenda Wilson. She is survived by her sons, Ralph (Rick) and his wife, Jane, of Edinboro and Raymond (Dale) and his wife, Shirley, of Carlisle, Ohio and her daughter Virginia (Gini) Schlosser and her husband, John, of Erie.
Hi Adrian,

Was so delighted to see your message - I'm researching the Ferris (Ferres, Fairies) family from, in and around the Larne area of County Antrim, NI. I've a lot of information on Eliza Ferris's family going back a few generations and also after her return to Ireland.
So much of the detail that you've given matches with what I have- many of the family were Doctors. Would be great to know how you're connected with the family. Will be in touch soon with more detailed information.

Regards,

Margaret

Re: Ferrises - NY to Ontario - UEL

Came across a newspaper clipping for the death of Mrs. Mary Frances (Ryder) Anning who was born in Frontenac County, near Kingston Ontario and in 1850 married Samuel Anning (who according to ancestry records was born in England. In 1869, they moved to St. Vincent Township, (near Meaford), Grey County, Ontario. They had 9 children and both Mr. and Mrs. Anning died here, where they had moved to when they came from Frontenac.
But in the clipping it stated that, Mary Frances Ryder was born of United Empire Loyalist stock, her grandfathers, Daniel Ferris and Samuel Ryder, came by water from New Jersey to Kingston at a time when the journey required six weeks and were granted farms near the site of the present village of Cataraqui, then called Waterloo.

This home is very close to my ancestor's property (Loucks). Also came across a document in our possession that had belonged to John G. Ferris (dated 1871). I wonder now if that could be a connection to the same family. His wife's name was Mary Jane (Boucher???)
I have pretty much the same story but I am in Australia. I was told that my mother's grandfather came over to Australia on a ship. Then when he got a job he sent for his family. The problem was that when his family came over Australia was encouraging immigrants. My GGF wasn't a citizen yet so they dodgyed up his naturalisation papers so it looked like he came over on the second boat. I am told the our name was originally Farris pronounced FA-ROUS with a roll on the "R". But our name was changed to Ferris because it sounded more english. My family has several different stories and oppinions. SO i don't really know
Researching my husbands family. Previously had thought that Frank Ferris was from Ireland but all census and other records point to the fact that he may have actually been from the Azores. He died at sea in Feb 1879, the ship he was on was the Schooner Annie Linwood it had departed from Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts. The place of death was listed as Georges. Any information would be greatly appreciated and we'd be happy to share what we have.
Pam

Isabella Ferris

I am seeking information on Isabella Ferris. I think she was born in Killadroy Ireland. Came to Canada. Married John McComb also from Ireland. They came to Michigan later but I am not sure of this fact.
I have been unable to find her birth date and death date or where she died. Thanks for any help! I believe my
Isabella's middle name was Hannah. One of John and Isabella's children was a daughter Maude Mary Mccomb.

Alvin D Ferris

I am looking for information on my GG Grandfather, Alvin D Ferris. I have that he was born about 1877 in Minnesota and that he married Ada Myrtle Slocum Jan 12, 1902 in Cass County, Nebraska. His middle name could have possibly been Durward. They had at least 4 children: Ethel, Clair, Evelyn and Kenneth. Alvin and Ada divorced before 1910 and he returned to Minnesota. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching a Warren Ferris, born 1793 in Addison County, Vermont, married Elizabeth Vale, born 1796. They move to New York - they are in Courtland, NY by 1832. Just curious if you have come across this name, as we have yet to go beyond him. Thank you!
