Hi Harold-

I posted this sometime ago and in the interveining years I made a connection with someone who lead me to the correct Fickle family. My Mary Fickle's father was Isaac Fickle and her mother, Mary Tatman. I've court documents to back it all up, and have traced every one of Mary's sisters lines, but your family names as provided aren't amongst them.

Good luck in your search.

Re: FICKLE Robert Ernest and Fannie Ethel

Robert Ernest and Fannie Ethel were my paternal grandfather and grandmother. They were both born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, as were their two older sons, Robert Emmel (nickname “Chuck”) and Harold. My father was Earl Damon Fickle, Sr.(deceased) His identical twin brother is Carl Ramon Fickle, who currently lives near Bridgeport, TX. Carl and Earl were born in Fort Worth, TX. Fanny Ethel died of complications of pneumonia and childbirth when Carl and Earl were about eight years old.
While in Hot Springs, Robert Earnest was a mule skinner, driving a coal delivery wagon in winter and an ice wagon during the summer. As best as I can tell, the family moved to Fort Worth some time in the early ‘20s. Robert continued to deliver ice for several years. I do have pictures of him standing in front of his wagon with his two mules. During the depression, he became a truck driver carrying produce to and from Fort Worth markets. When Fanny Ethel passed away, Robert was unable to care for the twins because of his job. As a result, Carl and Earl were sent to live with different family members (not Robert Emmel or Harold). Due to the financial pressures of the depression, the twins were shuffled from one family to another. As a result, they missed a great deal of school, and repeated the second grade. Finally, they were accepted into the Lena Pope Home. Mrs. Pope’s goal was to help keep families together. Carl and Earl remained in the Home until they graduated from High School (Arlington Heights) and entered the navy at the beginning of WWII.
Carl married Jean Hanson. They have two children, Michael Edward and Carla. Earl was married for a short time to a woman he knew from the Lena Pope home. They had one son, David. When they divorced, Earl was disabled and hospitalized with rheumatic fever, which he contracted while in the Navy. Under the circumstances, he had little choice but to allow her new husband to adopt their son. He later married Nora Smith and had two sons, Earl Damon Jr, and Kenneth Wayne. Nora died of a stroke in September of 1994 and Earl died of cancer in February of 1995
As I understand it, Robert Earnest worked at the Convair bomber plant, across the runway from Carswell Air Force base. Convair later became known as General Dynamics and is currently owned by Lockheed Martin.
On his way to work one morning, Robert became ill. When he got off the city bus at the plant gate, he crossed the street to take a bus back home. When he crossed the street, he was struck and killed by a car. This occurred prior to the end of WWII.
Robert Emmel was married to Peggy and had no children. They lived most of their lives live in Fort Worth. He died of a heart attack in the mid 80’s. Peggy was moved to a nursing home, but I don’t know where. I don’t have the details of her death.
Harold moved to Wichita Falls, Texas sometime after WWII and raised a family. His wife was named Evelyn, and I believe she still lives in Wichita Fall. Their two sons are named Bobby Jo and and Teddy Ray. Harold died in Wichita Falls just a few months after Robert Emmel.
I provide this information from memory and need to check some of our records correct any inaccuracies.
In case you are still interested, Arthur D. Fickle was my father, Arnold his older brother. They are 2 of the children of William P. Fickle and Hannah Belle Hancher of Sullivan Co, TN. Hannah was the daughter of Joseph Rush Hancher and Tennessee Cross. Joseph was the son of James K. Hancher, a prominent Lutheran pastor in TN. His father, William Hancher, Jr.(1790-1870) was from Frederick or Winchester, VA. There is an extensive Hancher bio on the internet which traces two distinct lines of Hansher/Hanchers. Ours is apparently from Nicholas Henshaw (felon),transported from England in 1720!

Re: Mandy Fickle

I don't know exactly who Mandy Fickle was, but I can give you what I believe to be her family's background. There was a large family of Fickles living in Washington Co. Va in the late 1700's, 1800's and a few today. One, Rueben Fickle (1830-appr.1911, married to Sallie, had a daughter, Rachel. Rachel Fickle married John WORLEY. Ruebens younger brother, Ephraim FICKLE married Amanda Pippin. My research has been about Reuben and Ephraims brother, Abram, so I'm afraid I have not researched very much about them, and thus do not have exact dates, info, etc. I do know that in the time period you are looking for, the Fickles, Worleys, and Pippins were all neighbors in the area around Bristol/Abingdon/Greendale, VA.It could be that Amanda Pippin FICKLE is your Mandy Fickle, but I cannot say that with any authority. Hope this helps. Becky Kueck

My cousin found an old picture of a lady in a graveyard.
It is labeled Aunt Mandy Fickle 1901. I figure it is SW VA around Washington Co. or Smyth. It was in a box of my grandmother's things. Since this was with my Grandmother Ollie Washington Worley Kilby's things I believe Mandy Fickle has a connection with Worley, Adams, or Lewis.

If anyone has any ideas I would like to identify her and post her picture.

I believe that "your" Mary Fickle is the half sister of my great great grandfather Stewart G. Fickle. Mary and Stewart's father was Isaac Fickle. Mary is the daughter of Isaac and his second wife Eliza Tipton (Stewart G. is the son of Isaac and his first wife Mary Tate). I have a "Partition Petition" that spells this out (and names Mary as being the wife of William F.

I am looking for information on a line of the Fickel (or Fickle) family that would have been in the vacinity of Marion County Ohio around 1840-1844. Their daughter Mary married William Franklin Harvey in 1842. William and Mary are my 3Xgreat grandparents.

This Mary Fickle would have been born about 1824 or 1825, and died in Marion Ohio in 1872.

I have found little is anything in Marion County records about this Fickel (Fickle) family and believe that they were literally passing through to points west.

If you have a family with a daughter of this age, please contact me.

If not, then contact the local historical society and see if they have a collection.
My Fickle ancestors were descendents of Daniel Fickle married to Hester "Hetty" Tipton. He was a brother of Benjamin and Joseph married to the Dusenbergs. Is there any documentation available to prove that Joseph Fickle was married to Elizabeth Tatman?

Hi Carol,

It's so interesting to learn that 2 Fickle families in Perry County were raising 2 sets of daughters named Jane and Mary Ann at about the same time!

Mine were the daughters of Joseph G. Fickle and Nancy Tannehill. Joseph G. had a brother named Benjamin, and if your Benjamin's parents were Joseph Fickle and Elizabeth Tatman, they were brothers.

I'd love to have more information on that generation, and perhaps I'll be able to share some info with you as well.

Thanks,

Dorothy

I have a Jane Fickle b. (1808 ?) in Perry Cty, OH. She had a younger sister Mary Ann b.(1819?). Her parents were Benjamin Fickle and Rebecca Dusenberry. If this fits, e-mail me for more info. Note: the dates I have might not be correct. I do not have any info on the Brown family.

I am searching for the parents and siblings of Samuel Curtis BROWN (b. 03 Aug 1821 in Maryland - d. 14 Jan 1900 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio). BROWN.

Martha (b. 01 Mar 1827 in Perry County, Ohio - d. 09 Apr 1901 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio) was the daughter of Charles GORDON (b. Oct 1801 in Virginia - d. 22 Mar 1873 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio) and Jane B. FICKLE (b. 06 Dec 1803 in Perry County, Ohio - d. 03 Jun 1865 in Worthington, Franklin County, Ohio).

Jane was an older sister of Mary Ann FICKLE (b. 22 Feb 1820 - buried at Union Cemetery, Old Mode, Illinois), who married William BROWN (b. 1815 in Maryland) on 08 Nov 1842 in Ohio.

Any additional information will be greatly appreciated!

I am currently researching the Fickles of Ohio and Indiana. More specifically, I am looking for the parents of Stewart G. Fickle who was born in Ohio c1816 and married and died in Clinton and Tippecanoe Counties in Indiana (1846-1869). Stewart is somehow connected to William and Anna (Thompson) Fickle but he is not their son. ANY help would be appreciated.

Also, I have quite a bit of information about the Fickles in general if anyone is interested.

Thank you,

Patricia in NC

Joseph Fickle is the son of Michael Fickle and Mary Slaymaker. This Fickle family is spread out throughout Ohio although most of Joseph's children are found at one time or another in Perry County, Ohio. Part of "my" Fickle line went to Clinton County, Indiana c1835-1845 from Ohio. I would be more than happy to share any other information.

Patricia Kitto
