Trachy Eslava elpoes with Myrtle Fiddler, Mobile, AL 1912

From the Mobile, Alabama Newspaper:

Tuesday, March 5, 1912
• "Trachy Eslava, 18 years old, Reed avenue, one south of Old Shell Road (Mobile, AL), went to Lucedale)Greene County, MS) and was married to Miss Myrtle Fiddler yesterday morning. Last night he returned with his bride, and was nabbed at the railroad station by orders of his father, and locked up in the city jail upon the charge of being a dangerous and suspicious character. The father of his bride is apparently satisfied with the marriage, and up to a late hour last night was hunting some one to stand Trachy's bond. Mrs. Trachy Eslava was taken to her father's home.

"'It's the old man's doing,' said Trachy last night. ... 'I don't consider this thing a runaway affair. The girl's father was satisfied, and so was she. The only one objecting was my father.' ...

Saturday, March 9, 1912:

• "Trachy Eslava, eighteen years of age, who was confined in the city jail at the instance of his father, after having eloped to Lucedale, Miss., with Myrtle Fiddler of Mobile, was discharged in the recorder's court yesterday morning for want of prosecution. Trachy was detained in j ail for a short time after returning from Lucedale at the request of George Eslava, his father, but was later let out on bond secured from him by his father-in-law, M.D. Fiddler. The young couple are living with the bride's parents."

note- Lucedale is in Mississippi close to the Alabama line.
Not my line, just sharing.

Re: Stephen Fiddler/Fidler born about 1808 Pennsylvania

I have been researching the Anthony's of Western Pennsylvania for some time now and came across something that may interest you:

Peter Fidler, of Redbank Township, Armstrong County (now Clarion County), PA, died in 1839. His children listed are: Stephen, Margaret (wife of James Anthony - thus my interest in the family), George, John, Barbara, Mary Ann and the following children in their minority: William, David, Elizabeth, James and Elias. No wife of Peter is listed - but when I was looking into the Fidler families on the census, I came across S. Fidler (1850 census for Rock Island, Illinois) with many children listed and 2 older women: Nancy, aged 62 (could be his mother) and Ann, aged 43 (could be Mary Ann, a sister). Nancy is again listed with Stephen Fidler on the 1860 census for Frankfort, Pepin, Wisconsin.

I do not know if this helps you - my only interest is in trying to figure out who James Anthony is.

I do not know if this is the Stephen Fidler you are looking for, but the age fits well and he was born in PA.

The William of which Debmcc7 writes was indeed from the Orkney Islands in Scotland as was his family at least two generations earlier. William and Alice Clark Fiddler had seven children. The eldest was Edward Leslie Fiddler, my maternal grandfather. The fifth child was Robert Martin Fiddler. I have no information about whether or not Robert Martin was married or had children. However, my information on Robert Martin includes the following: He was born in S. Africa on 2/14/1911, he died as the result of falling asleep while driving, and he was buried in the Oak Hills Cemetery in Chicago. If this information sounds similar to anything you've heard about your grandfather, Robert, let me know. I have one more bit of information about Robert that would be best communicated privately.

Hello. My mom, Jeanette Fiddler Cleaver, and your mom are cousins. They keep in contact with one another. Mom and I work on family history when we can. Let me know if you want to compare information to see if there's anything we can add to one another's research. Another one of our second cousins on that side of the Fiddler family does family history research, but I haven't gotten in contact with her yet.

Blessings,

Ken Cleaver

P.S. On your information below I'd had William born in Cross, Sanday, Orkney Islands; I wasn't sure (but suspected) that Margaret Leslie was born in the Orkney Islands; and I wonder how long Henry and Alice Clark were living in S. Africa. In the late 19th c. there were many immigrants from Britain who migrated down to S. Africa. My assumption was that they started out somewhere in Britain and headed down to S. Africa with other British laborers looking for work in the mines. The Boer Wars were going on down there back then.

Looks like some of the early "fidler' or 'fiddler', born in Kentucky, settled in Indiana for a while. Then some moved on to Missouri and Kansas.

Example: John Fidler born Spencer, KY, 1816
Married in Lawrence, Indiana, USA to Mary Ann Crawford, 1837
Lived in Oskaloosa, Jefferson, Kansas, 1860-1883

John had a son James.
1880 census shows following in
James Fidler 35
Eliza A. Fidler 29
Rasan A. Fidler 9
Sarah Ann Fidler 7
Nancy E. Fidler 3
John W. Fidler 7M

doesn't help much, but just keep looking.. and good luck.

Hi Helen,
Although our two Fiddler families are not related for certain, I am pretty sure there is a connection between them. My earliest relative was Benjamin Fiddler b1770. His son Benjamin b1807 is my ggg grandfather. The family lived in the Dudley/Sedgley area at this time, before moving to Wednesbury and then dividing, with one half around Walsall and the other, my branch, moving to Aston, Birmingham. I know there were other Fiddlers in the Dudley-Wolverhampton area around 1790, but have not been able to link them together, as seems likely from their occupations and proximity. I would appreciate any information on where your Fiddlers originated and any links you can see between the two families. My tree is on ancestry and also genesreunited. If you can't find it there, I will send you a copy directly. Write to me at nicholas.fielding@btinternet.com. I also have several essays I have written on the early history of the Fiddlers in the West Midlands which I can send you. I look forward to hearing from you.
My best,
Nick Fielding

I'm trying to track down the whereabouts of a James Fiddler, born in 1866 or 67 in Wolverhampton, to Stephen and Esther (nee Jones). After his father's death in 1872, James and his brother Joseph (b. 1869) disappear off the census radar as their mother remarries. We know that Joe, who had now taken on his mother's family of Jones for a while, resurfaced in Sedgley, nr. Dudley in 1898, after a stint in the army.

A James Fiddler appears in Birmingham in 1891/1901 (Garbett Street/Derby Place) with the right date/place of birth, but I'm unsure if it's him, and still need to follow his family line through to present. Even if it proves to be correct (all help welcome!), I'm still intrigued to know where he and/or Joe went from 1872 to the 1890's - Joe never talked about it and never mentioned that he had a brother - did he even remember if they were parted?

All information very gratefully received...Helen :o)

Re: Fiddlers in Staffordshire, Worcestershire

Yes, I'm related to and researching a branch of the Fiddler family originally in Wolverhampton between the 1840's and 1870's, focusing on Joseph (b. 1822), wife Frances Turner and one of their sons, Stephen, who is my great, great grandfather. When Stephen died in 1872 his wife Esther (Jones) remarried and their two sons, James (5) and Joseph (3), seemed to disappear off the "radar". Joseph resurfaced in Sedgley (nr. Dudley), marrying Emily Slater in 1898 after a stint in the army under the name "Joe Jones", and went on to have ten children, five of whom survived into adulthood. Most continued to live in the area for a while at least, but as all but one were girls, the name has pretty much died out here.

My real "mission" is to find out what happened to James, as Joe never mentioned him and my Dad (who was very close to Joe) would be thrilled to meet another branch of his Fiddler family. My initial research has pointed to a James, marrying an Agnes Tyler in 1887, and living in Birmingham in 1891 and 1901 - the main basis for interest were a place of birth listed as Wolverhampton, with the correct year, and (if this has any relevance) the occupation of "tinplate worker", which was the same as his father.

I'm more than happy to share the information I have with you if relevant to your research and if you can shed any light on my "Birmingham" theory or know anything about the whereabouts of our James or his family, I'd be most grateful.

Best regards...Helen

Edna K and Ella M. Fiddler of Washington Co., OK

Robert Napoleon Henegar, b. 30 July 1896 married Edna K. Fiddler, daughter of John R. and Laura Fiddler probably about 1916 in Washington Co., OK. He was a foreman for the Pure Oil Co., at Shamrock, Oklahoma. Later he was stationed at Van, Texas. Their Children were 1.Mary, b. 1918, Robert or Bobby b. 1920, Evadene b. 1922 and Paul b. 1930 all in Oklahoma. I have the ancesty of Robert Napoleon Henegar back through his Mother Bertha Estella Redman and her husband William Homer Henegar. William Homer Henegar was b. in Decatur, AR according to family history, by Mamie Allen, of Bolivar, Polk Co., MO in the early 1970's. I have the Redman family and some of the Fiddler history back a ways...would share with you as the Fiddler daughters Ella and Edna are related on two sides of the family. Ella Fiddler married a Albert Jefferson Haley on 11-28-1914, they are the daughters of a John R. and Laura Fiddler. The family of the Redman's and the Haley's are both related through a cousin of Robert Napoleon Henegar and through Albert Jefferson (Jack) Haley's wife as a sister in law. Is anyone else working on this particular Fiddler Family? hope to hear from you...M Zabette Elam

My grandmother Esther Eleanor Webb was the daughter of Nathaniel Webb and Elizabeth nee Fiddler who lived in West Bromwich married 10th Jan 1864. He was an iron moulder and they settled in Tipton at 16, Toll End Road. I believe relatives lived next door.
