Lillian File --- Rensselaer County, NY --wife of John C. Rowland

Am looking for parents of Minnie M. Rowland, born 1885-1886 in Rensselaer County, New York, most likely in Pittstown.

The cemetery records for Warren Cemetery, Pittstown, NY shows the following:
Minnie Rowland b 11 May 1885, died 4 Dec 1945, wife of Walter Brainard and Cecil LeBarron; her mother as Lillian File and father as John C. Rowland. The transcription notes Minnie was buried on 7 Dec 1945 and source of this information was "Mable Wallace Hewitt, her records"

Buried in the same Warren Cemetery is John C. Rowland (1856-1932), wife Libby (Elizabeth) Stearns and Libby Stearns (1882-1932). The 1900 census indicates that John and Elizabeth Stearns have been married about one year (married about 1899); they are known to have one child, Mabel J. Rowland, born ca 1901.

Minnie M. Rowland is enumerated in the 1900 Rensselaer Co New York census at Pittstown with William H. Rowland and wife, Mary F. Tilley, as their "niece". She is also as "niece" in their household in the 1905 New York State Census, Pittstown, Rensselaer County, NY.

Would like to exchange information to confirm that this John C. Rowland was married first to Lillian File and that they were the parents of Minnie M. Rowland (1885-1945). Would like to identify Lillian File's birth/death and parentage.

Any help on this family will be greatly appreciated.
My father Richard Phile was born in Illinois in 1932 and came to the UK where he met my Mum and stayed until his passing in 1989.

I know he had a sister called Mary Jane and I would love to know what happened to her and any family she may have had as we lost contact when he passed.

Thank you! Any hint is a help!

When I started this, I was told that the Foils and Files were definitely different families. As I go on, I've been told that it isn't true, that the ones in this area descend from the same ancestor. Very curious.

I agree with names/dates not making sense. I can only prove the way back to Robinson Foil/File. Beyond him is confusion.

Maybe the true story is already known and available in local historical societies. I'm too far to go check this out myself.

Thank you again!

Hello,
I'm also looking into the Foil surname in NC. I found the same Robinson/Robberson File/Foil that you found and, based on public trees, it looks like he may be related, ultimately to a Johannes P. Pfeil. My mother's mother is a Foil and my mom is convinced this is not accurate, and some of the trees don't make sense (birth years, etc). So, I'm not much of a help to you, but I just thought I'd mention what I saw on other trees.

Hello! Does anyone know where Robinson File might fit into the File/Foil ancestral lines of North Carolina?

I'm stuck at Robinson Foil, abt 1820 to Aug 2, 1862 (died of disease in the Civil War). He was married to an Ellen or Eleanor (possibly Fink?), and sired at least 3 children (Martha, John, Caleb). Martha married Anthony Graeber Bost, and is the ancestor who inspired this search.

Any more info about Martha's family and ancestors would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yes, it's all familiar, literally . . . . My mother was commonly known as Nina. My father was born on October 15th 1900 in New Romney I think, his father (my grandfather) was a boot maker and at some point had a shop in Bexhill on Sea. As a child I visited Doris often, her adopted son Jeremy and her adopted daughter Zena. I remember Jessie and / or Elsie visiting us from Canada, her husband was Lionel?

I'm living and working in East Anglia, my brother, Matthew G File lives in Lewes and we have semi regular contact with my fathers daughters from his first marriage. They are, Miriam, Eunice and Stephanie (deceased).

Regards

Steve

Thanks Ryan, I believe my gt granfdfather Charles married to Elizabeth Mary Bourne is the one you are searching for. Charles was born around 1821 and died in 1875. We visited Elham church and found his grave.
He had Charles 1857, Emma 1859 John 1862, Edward 1864( my grandfather) Mary 1866,Sophia 1870, George 1872, William 1874, Frederick 1875, Adelaide 1877 and Jessie 1879. Quite a busy chap!
Charles had a farm at Ottinge of 700 acres employing 20 men.
In 1891 he had a servant EmmaOliver born in 1869 in Stouting Kent She had a daughter Kate born in 1896. I believe you wanted to know about her.
I have information about some of Charles children. I wonder if one of them was Kate's father?
Do let me know if I can help. Mary (nee File)

Hello

I have some info on the File family from Elham but I don't know if it is the same line of the family that you are looking for. There were a lot of Files in the village around 1900.

My great grandfather had a sister called Mildred Longhurst and she married Leo John File in 1898. He was a grocers assistant (I believe in his fathers shop). They had a daughter Edith born 1900 and they lived at 2 Vicarage Lane (1901 census). Frederick file lived next door.

Please let me know if this means anything to you.

Jackie

My grandfather was Arnold E. File who lived in Bond Co Illinois. Do you have anything that might pertain to him? I appreciate anything that you might be able to give to me. He was married to Hallie Marie Terry and was born in 1900.
