I don't have this information. and could your provide a marriage date & place for me for them. Also could you give me your fathers birth location.

So if I understand correctly you would like information on the "Kitchen" and the "Filkens" & "Curtis" and second wife "Grace Washers".

What information would you like? Ask away!!! I'll help if I can, and research if needed. As I'm a volunteer for our local Lapeer County Genealogy Society.

I've just found this post. I'm completely new to these searches - have only just begun. My paternal grandmother was Rachel Filkins, born 22 June 1898, and I believe in Imlay City! She married Kirtland K Kitchen and lived in Grayling, Mi, where I was born. She had two sons, Martin Ray Kitchen, b 13 April 1931, and James, b ?? (younger than my father Martin). She died on 27 April 1976 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling alongside my grandfather Kirt Kitchen.

This is fantastic! The Kitchens never talked about their ancestry, unlike my mother's side of the family, and I've decided it's time to find out more.

So, let me know if I don't have this right: Rachel's parents were Orson Ray Filkins Jr and Irene Avis Curtis (who died when Rachel was 1). Rodney was her half-brother, and another, Frances B. I assume Frances was a female..? I do recall whispering in the family alluding to a lesbian sister - perhaps this was Frances. Fine with me.

I am very happy to find this info and am sparked to continue. BTW, I am Julie Ann Kitchen Todter, born 16 October 1953 in Grayling, Mi. I have been living in Australia since 1979.

Thanks for the genealogy sheet on Stanley predecessors, wonderful.

Am researching Louise Florence Chamberlain, she doesn't seem to have any known parents.

Also tieing down Julia Houghton.

Dexter Filkins (Stanley's\Louise's first born) marries two unknown parental line women:

Anna Wilson out of possibly Albany NY 1844.

Harriet Bayne\Bane who apparently is born in 1845? in New York and has two of Dexter's son's at an early age (don't think so).

A clue here... Stanley Filkins is listed TWICE in the 1860 US Census, the 2nd time he's in Ridgeway, Orleans, NY (north of Medina) as a Counsellor at Law living with Nancy J L Bane. hmmmm, wonder if this is maybe an Aunt Nancy after Stanley's son Dexter marries Harriett Bane???

Any information on these 4 women and WHY Dexter Filkins moved to Livingston MI is much appreciated.

I'm researching George S. Filkins for my Civil War soldiers of Monroe County, NY project.

George S. Filkins was born in Fairport, NY in 1838. He was the fourth of Isaac and Catherine Southworth Filkins' five children. His siblings include Thomas, Isaac Jr., Jacob and Mary. George enlisted in the 13th NY Infantry during the Civil War.

He married Ada Benedict, with whom he had two children - Allen and Ernest. After Ada's death in 1878, George wed Mary White and three children were born to them - Anna, Clarence and Howard. They raised their family in Fairport, NY.

I've found census and military records for George Filkins. Would love to find out more about the Filkins family and fill in some blanks on the family tree. Please feel free to leave a message on my Illuminated History blog, www.illumhistory.wordpress.com, or email me directly at vprofitt@rochester.rr.com.
I have discovered that my Great Grandfathers name was Myron Filkins. He was born in 1874 and died in 1956. He is buried in the Hagaman Mills Cemetery. He was married to my Great Grandmother, Cora Fonda Filkins. They were never divorced, but had separated from each other. I believe that his father was also a Myron Filkins and is also buried in Hagaman.

FILKINS Photo Album

I bought an old family photo album at a garage sale. The inside cover says "Merry Christmas From John H. Swart to Mrs. H. Filkins, Dec 25th 1894". There are many great old pictures in it. Sadly, nearly all are unmarked. The photographers, for the most part, were located in Saratoga Springs & Schenectady, NY. Names mentioned: William P. Filkins, Henrietta, Warren, Will, Florence, Daniel, Merril, Elmon, George Arthur, Darrel, Marion, Alice & Laurel. Also, Alvin Lorenzo Spitzer, Jr. & Alina Palmater.
Part of this family lived in North Dakota as noted on one of the pictures.

I just recently traced a line of my family on my Mom's side to the town of Halfmoon (or Half Moon as it was called in the 1700-1800s) in Saratoga County, N.Y. These may be some of my relatives, since Saratoga Springs and Schenectady would have been the nearest cities with photographers. Do you still have this book?

In my research, I have George Filkins (1853) born to Abram FIlkins (1827) and Mary O. Warren. His sister, who I have as Mary Anna Filkins, Married Lewis Pierce in 1789. I can't imagine moving in with my sister and her husband, but, it looks like that's what George and Anna did.

Hey, I'm looking for him too! Newton is/was my great grandpa, and was married to Ethel Smart-Chapman. Out of all 8 of my GGrandparents, Newton is the most elusive. Together, Newton and Ethel had five daughters (including my grandmother, Eleanor Filkins-Lyke) and two sons. Eleanor had one daughter and two sons, and from them are six of us grandchildren. I'm not sure that this helps you on the front end of things. I never met Newton but I've heard family stories and I own 2 or 3 photos. Email me at brittany.lyke@gmail.com.

Ginger,

Your grandfather sounds like Guy W. Chapman1876-1961. Is this right? His daughter would have been named Ethel, although, I'll admit to knowing nothing about his sisters (your great aunts).

Do you have any additional info on him?
