Hello, I have had a response from the Benevolent Society where Margery was born in Jan 1899:-

* The father has been named as Joseph (not sure of the last name could be O'hara??? Clara???) Boiler Maker living in Short St Enfield

*It says that this is her second confinement and that her other child is deceased?? They would be talking about Francis(Frank D.1897)but doesnt mention Lomas who was of course living?

*She had been in Sydney for two years when she had Margery

*She was released in May 1899, following the death of Margery to Gastritis, her next baby (Walter) died in Dec 1900 at 5 months old (no father listed on death cert)

* When she was discharged following the death of Margery, she went into service with a Mr Cliff of Burwood.

If I get any further information, I will post for you :)

I could not find any record of marriage - either in NSW or WA. I need to request more information from the Benevolent society as there may be more information on the actual inmates journals following the birth/death of Margery. She was admitted as 'single, pregnant, emergency'. I will request this information and let you know what turns up. I am going to Perth in February and plan to seek out the grave and see if there is any further information on it. I got onto this lead through a website and Fishlock was listed as her fathers name, but I have been unable to find that website again which has been frustrating.

Thank you for your message, I had a look for the Charlotte Phoebe Denny in Western Australia, She is buried in the cemetery at Karrakatta, W A.

Did you find a marriage, I'm sure there was another child to Charlotte Phoebe, Francis Fishlock, birth registered 1897 Newtown NSW, mother Charlotte P. his death is registered 1897 Burwood, as Frank mother Phoebe, although I could be wrong???.

I appreciate any information, I have been looking for about 5 years.

James Fishlock married Elizabeth Denny 1890 registered Wollongong, NSW.

Hello, Charlotte was my Great Grandmother. I dont really have much more information, but only one child of hers survived, my Grandfather - Lomas born 1895 when she was 16. The others died in infantcy. She had Marjory at the Benevolent Society in Sydney 1899 - listed as single and was discharged after Marjory died a couple of months later. She had Walter in 1900, he died aged 5 months in Newtown - no father listed on death certificate - all this time Lomas was being bought up by his grandparents who he referred to as his mother & father.

I did think I found a link to a Charlotte Phoebe Denny, who arrived in WA about 1908, but not 100% sure if she is the same person- she died aged 80 in 1960 which makes her the same age - couldnt find any record of any children that she had. Her husband was born in NSW as was listed on his enlistment papers for WW1. There was also a marriage between a Fishlock (sibling of Charlottes) & a Denny? Will have to pull out more information from my files to be exact.

Seeking any information for Charlotte Phoebe Fishlock also known as Charlotte Phoebe Oxenbridge, she was born 1878, mother was Mary Ann Brasher.
Have not found any marriage or death dates for Charlotte.
There are (4) children registered as being born to Charlotte

I was able to help Brian correct a bit of his family tree for my line (he had a few guesses that were wrong). I seem to remember another mention of an Elver George Fishlock at some point, so I'll have another look at my tree :)

I also had contact with Chris Borrow. c.borrow@nhm.ac.uk
His email included "before marrying my mum was a Fishlock from Bristol and we used to regularly visit distant relatives in Marshfield (particularly the Harding family). My grandparents are Elver George Fishlock born 1908 in Chipping Sodbury and Edith Fishlock (nee Grundy)."

Since I made this post, I've got a bit further with the Fishlock branch of my tree, and I have:

Mercy Fishlock (Charlotte's unmarried mother)
Junia (Mercy Fishlock's father)
Thomas Fishlock (Junia's father)
Thomas Fishlock 1753 as in your tree (Thomas' father)

They all seem to be from the Marshfield area

I've got a Junia, but at least a generation earlier.

Junia b. 1797, possibly a twin of Eleanor. 10 siblings total

Parents: Thomas Fishlock b.1753 and Elizabeth (Rivers) b. 1752

I have no information about Junia's decendants, but their cousins would probably include Sarah 1820, William 1824, John 1824, another William (?) 1831, Jane 1834, Cornelius 1837.

just read this post, I am looking for Fishlocks, being one, my fishlocks came from Etchilhampton village just outside Devizes, I am intrested in the Bunny lane, Rowde reference as my great aunt and uncle owned a house there until the 1980,s. my fishlocks are intermarried with the Giddings a family also from Etchilhamption.
Fishlock is a common local Wiltshire name and I understand means fishermen of the pond or moonraker

From my records:
- Tom & Arthur never married.
- Doris not sure whether she married.
- Phyllis married Charlie Austen

Their parents, Annie Maria Sellick & Charlie Fishlock, lived at Harecombe Farm in Marshfield. Charlie's father was Thomas Fishlock.

Unfortunately, I have no further information on these relatives.

I have a Annie Maria SELLICK (b. 18/03/1887, Wick, Glos, Eng), who married a Ernest Charles Fishlock on 27/09/1911. Their siblings are: Tom, Arthur, Doris Phyllis. Phyllis married a Charlie AUSTEN. Is this in anyway a connection?

Further to that, I think I have her mother's name - Mercy Fishlock, but if anyone knows of a likely father's name, please shout!

She was born in Widcombe, Bath, Somerset, and her family seems to be around the Bath / Marshfield / Bathford area at that time.

I'm trying to trace the names of Charlotte Ellen Fishlock (born 3rd Aug 1875 / 1876)'s parents.

Her grandfather was Junia Fishlock (born 1861, died 1899 aged 83), and her grandmother was possibly Maria Fishlock, although this could be a later marriage.

She's the mother of William Reginald Fishlock (born 16-8-1904).

Anyone come across any of these names while researching their family history?

Hi Iain,

Martha Trimmell is Mary and Isaacs daughter, she married George Trimmell and I presume Mary went to live with them on her husbands death, he died a few years before the 1881 Census if I remember rightly. It states on the Census that Mary is Mother to Head of Household (George) but as her name is Mary Springford and I know Martha was Springford before her marriage, I believe it should say Mother In Law to Head.

I've been tracing the Springford name as this was my maiden name and when I got my Gt Gt Gt Grandfathers birth certificate it told me his mothers maiden name was Fishlock, I already knew she was Mary.

The Census information I have is what I have got through tracing Isaac Springford, as they were married she was then going under the name of Springford.

I replied to your query about Fishlock as I thought it a rare name and with you having a Mary born Winterbourne Wiltshire, it seemed too much a coincidence. Would you have any idea of her dob, to confirm if it is the same one and yes, I would be interested to see her family if you don't mind. When I found the marriage on the IGI, I tried to find more about her but there seems to be hundreds of Mary Fishlocks in Wiltshire and as I didn't really have any idea of her age, didn't know where to start.

Sorry, but I don't have any Strangefords or Springfords!! Can you just comfirm is Martha Trimmell the sister or daughter of Mary?

I have details of Mary's parents, brother and sisters. If you want any of the details let me know.

Who are you actually tracing? Fishlocks, Springfords?? If Fishlocks, where did you get the 51/61census from?

This is all the info I have on my Mary Fishlock.

According to IGI, Batch No. 8222931, Sheet 95 :
Mary Fishlock married Isaac Strangeford 02 Jun 1827, Winterbourne Bassett, Wiltshire.

Isaac is actually Isaac Springford. I have them on the 1851 Census living at Bunny Lane, Parish of Rowde.
Isaac is Head, age 49, Ag Lab, born Rowde
Mary is Wife, age 44, Ag Lab Wife, born Winterbourne, Wilts
plus their children.

On the 1861 Census, living at 62 Village, Rowde ??
Isaac is Head, age 59, Ag Lab, born Rowde
Mary is Wife, age 51, Ag Lab, born Rowde

On the 1881 Census, living at Chippenham Road, Rowde
with George and Martha Trimmell.
Mary, Mother to Head, Widow, Age 73 born Winterbourne Wilts. In receipt of Parish Relief.

She is actually Mother to Martha Trimmell on 1881. The ages differ slightly but I would say she was born about 1806. That is going off the 1851, which ties closer with the 1881 and although the 1861 says she was born in Rowde, I think they've just copied her husband & childrens place of birth, as on the other 2 censuses it says she was born Winterbourne Wilts. Husband Isaac was born 1801, so its obviously a few years after then. I think I remember seeing her death listed on Freebmd, soon after the 1881 Census, you would have to check the age, I can't remember where she died but probably shown as Devizes district.

Sorry in delay. Am going to check my notes tonight and get back to you. I am tracing the Springfords (my maiden name) and have a marriage with a Mary Fishlock (will have to check dates) but early 1800s from memory. I have the 1841 Census info, to check against but thats about all I know really, sorry, but I am sure shes born Winterbourne Wilts so could be connected somewhere.

Will get back to you when I've checked my info and made sure its right.

I am tracing the RICKS family, mostly from around the Purton Area of Wiltshire. I have an Elizabeth FISHLOCK married to Nathaniel RICKS, she was born 1812 in Winterbourne, Wilts. Just wondered if she was anything to do with any FISHLOCKS that you lot might be tracing. It cant be that common a name can it?

JOHN born 1758 son of John & Mary Siney married 1757
John was born 1737 son of John & Martha
I have noticed that Thomas given to you on a previous message born 1783 married Mary Elford in 1811 and had a son yes you've guessed it John born 1812
