I have some details aboutFr. Thomas Laurence Fitzharris who used to visit the Fitzharris family here. I did not meet him but he said that he was related. There is a photograph of him at the marriage of my cousin(he was the priest) He died in 1990 in Buckley.I have a copy of the marriage cert of his parents, his father was a 'mariner' but to locate the birth place I would need to know his mother's name as there are several Laurences in the area.
If you can give me more information I may be able to help, because although Fr. Fitzharris was the image of other family members I do not know where he fits in.
Mary Mackey (Bunclody Co Wexford)

They lived in New York City; she married and moved to Ohio. Could this be your line?

My mother was a fitzharris from Greenock Scotland but the family and the name tends to centre around Dublin in Ireland and just South of there (Dalkey and Dun Loaghaire. SOme legends have the harris side as an outside of wedlock descenfdent from a Royal Henry, unlikely. But for more Colourful past 'SKin the GOat' fitzharris was an Irish republican who was incolved in a famous assination plot and is mentioned in James Joyce Ulysses. Google him for the whole story. Its not a common name so you will end up back near dublin if you go far enough.

Hi,everyone, my name is Val Leather the new Fitzharris Board Administrator. My Husband's grandmother was Elizabeth Fitzharris, born in Bolton, Lancashire, England,in 1896; she died in 1993.Her father was William born in 1866, and mother was Mary. Grandfather wasLawrence, born in 1827 in the Manchester area and married to Eliza, born in 1833. Great Grandfather was James born in 1807 in Ireland, but as yet we can't find out where. There are many Fitzharris people in Bolton, partly due to the number of siblings, marriages and births. If anyone can help me, I would be very grateful, and am willing to help anyone else I can.Val Leather.

Hi
i'm searching for my great grandmother - Annie Jones and her husband Lawrence Fitzharris. They married in early 1900's in Liverpool. Had a daughter Anne (known as Nancy) in 1910. She also had a son who was a Catholic priest in Buckley, Wales.
Annie Jones/Fitzharris died around 1955 in Liverpool and was probably born in 1880's.

Lawrence may have been born in Wexford as may his father, also called lawrence, but none of this part of my message is fact - i'm just making assumptions based on the very few Lawrence Fitzharris's on the census in Liverpool.

If you have any information on Lawrence Fitzharris please let me know.

Thanks
Clare

I was excited to see the postings about the John Fitzharris Family of Hollidaysburg, PA.

I am Pat Raymond. My maternal grandmother was Alice Fitzharris, daughter of Patrick and Rose O'Rourke Fitzharris. She was born in Hollidaysburg. IThe Patrick Fitzharris family eventually settled in Johnstown and it looks like this imight be the same Fitzharris family. I was in Hollidaysburg just yesterday trying to locate the Catholic Church there.

I am from Johnstown, PA which is about 40 miles from Hollidaysburg. John Fitzharris was killed in the Johnstown Flood of 1889 as was his son Christ (Christopher?) and his entire family. My other maternal great grandparents--John and Julia Brady were also killed in the flood.

I now live in Harrisburg, PA and am putting together a family tree.

If you have any information on the family that you are willing to share...that would be great.

Rob,

Hi. I got your address from the ancestry.com bulletin board. I have a little Fitzharris info for you—but you know every little bit helps. I’m just getting started with research on my husband’s side. His maternal grandmother was a Fitzharris. Here’s what I have: Mary M. Fitzharris (b. Sept. 13, 1898. d. Nov 21, 1955) married Clarence Bradt (b Oct. 1, 1898, d. Jan 5, 1963). I believe they were both from the Rochester, N.Y. area. I think Mary’s mother’s name might have been Louise—but not definite. It’s not much but maybe it will connect something for you. Good Luck.

Ann
Foulksmills is very near where my grandmother, Mary Fitzhenry, came from in Wexford. I wonder if there might be a connection to your ancestors. She was born in 1870. I do not know here father's first name but her mother was Mary Ellen Cullen. There were two brothers who died as children, one was sixteen but I don't know about the other. Mrs. F. remarried a man named Tubritt and had several more kids. If you have any info about your Fitzhenrys at that time I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

We are related- my father, your uncle is Timothy born Aug 12, 1913 in Cobh. Bertha Appleby is my grandmother. I have traced the Fitzharris lineage back to Andrew who was born in 1828. Got this information from his listing in the Royal Irish Constabulary. Unfortunately, no other info on that record such as full date of birth, parents, place of birth, etc. Some indirect info says he may have been born in Meath. I've been sort of stuck at this point for a couple of years now.

FITZHARRIS FAMILY FROM IRELAND

I am trying to trace a family related to my grandmother who was a Mary Hughes from Rowans, Lusk, Co.Dublin, and who emigrated to Canada some time after 1905 and married a man by the name of FITZHARRIS. She had two sons, and I believe their names could have been Donald and Charles. The family lived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Mary Fitzharris (nee Hughes) died possibly in 1954 or thereabouts. I cannot trace anything so far, my grandmother left a daughter back in Ireland, her name was Mary Hughes, and she was my mother. No contact was made with my mother's family I don't believe after about 1928, when my mother married and moved to England, and then to Jersey in the Channel Islands.
Please help locate decendants if you can. Thank you.
This family has now been found, after 70 years with no contact. The name was Harris, and not Fitzharris.
It is sad to say that there is no Willdridge's on this side..But if we can connect the two lines..then there is at least some cousins out there..Which would be great..

I have a nephew in Wis. who is interested in the line..he did not know my mother (died in 1950) and my grandmother (died in 1966) He did not find out about her until his father let some family stories out, and he was really surprised..He called me to ask some questions about the family..He had always thought our step mom was our mother, which she was our mom for 43 years..

I wish there was a way for a reunion, sometime. But until then I will get these pictures sent to you..I have not mastered the new scanner yet, but working on it.. I will scan off our part of the history also, so you can copy it.

Darlene

Darlene,

It is a hard line to follow. As mentioned we assume that Joseph was William H. Willdridge's brother, both born in Ireland around 1840's. They seemed to want to continue with traditional names on both sides - this does lead to a bit of confusion!

Is it possible to email the photos of your grandfather to us. My dad worked at the shipyards as an electrician up to 1955 prior to immigrating to New Zealand. When did your grandfather work there? Just looking at the line this would put you and my dad as second or third cousins (somewhere in the lineage).

His sister is not well and we have had a hard time trying to get any infomation from her. My sister and her late husband went back to Scotland in 1999 and tried to get more information. Maybe the Willdridges should have a family reunion? (In a small room at the back of a Glasgow pub!)

Our line with the Willdridge name is now restricted to my brother (William Patrick) and his son, Daniel. My other two sisters married and gave up the Willdridge name.
Theresa...
do I have your e-mail correct, if not let me know what it is so I can start scanning the pictures to you...I have several so it will take me some time...to get it done..this is a new scanner and some I have not figured out yet..

I was thinking on your William H. Willdridge and the name could of been Joseph's father...I find that looking up this family the same names accure in different lines..Don't know if I mentioned it but I have some pictures of my grandfather McIlravey working in the Clyde ship yard, he was a carpenter and worked on cabinets..there is some men with him in the picture.

I will be waiting for you return e-mail on your e-address.

Darlene

Darlene,
My father is the grandson of William Henry Willdridge, son of William H. Willdridge(snr) and Janet Evans. We believe the WHW (snr) was Joseph Willdridge's (married Mary McDermot) brother. My father worked at the Clyde shipyard in Port Galsgo before immigrating to New Zealand in 1955, settling in Auckland.

Is it possible to scan and email the photos you have so we can see if there may be some similarity between families? Are you related to the Willdrdige clan?

I have recently discovered that the Fitzharris and Fitzhenry names were interchangeable in Wexford in the 19th century. I have found my family using both names. You will maybe find useful info if you look up the Fitzhenry noticeboards too. In particular Ed Toy has a huge database of family names. My Fitzhenrys came from Foulksmills and were blacksmiths. Some of them - Ed Fitzhenry emigrated to Buffalo in 1868. email me if you think I can help any more. all the best.

Hi Bob, I have ancestors in common with Ed Toy who you have already been in touch with. Interesting one of those, a character called Stephen Fitzhenry married a Martha Cullen in Nov 1851. Re Mary Cullen she seems to be listed in the Vital Records Index as married to John Fitzhenry and had a child Martin Fitzhenry on 20 Dec 1871. Maybe you know about that? If you have Mary's birthdate you can get a certificate for her and check her parents. Have you done that? You can email me on annfurtado@yahoo.com if you like.

all the best

Ann

Hello, my name is Brian Joseph FitzHarris and as I grew older I became more and more interested in my family history. I know very little about our past and where we really come from. I know my immediate family history, and very little after that. My father Joseph FitzHarris was born from Mr. and Mrs. Leo FitzHarris and he had three sister and 4 brothers. I wish I could name them all, but I can't. Currently I'm studying chemistry in college and right now I'm just looking for some history about my family. Being a military brat it isn't easy answering the question "so where are you from?" Some day I would like to answer that question with "I'm proud to be from _______" So, any information is more than appreciated.

~Brian
