Re: Researching the Flach Family

I'm researching the Flach Family also. My great grandfather Ferdinand emigrated from Germany in the late 1800's. I believe he was from the Frankfort Area. His wife Anna Hermann was also from that area. They settled in the Pittsburgh, PA area. They were somehow associated with the brewery business in Germany. The surname was changed to Flack by some in our family. Anyone have any idea about the family in Germany.

I am researching the Flach family too.

I recently took a genetic test with the National Geographic Genographic Project. I should be finding out the results soon. It will research all the way up through my maternal line. The farthest maternal line that I have gotten to is Katharina Flach, who married Valentin Wagner and had only one daughter named Ida Loiuse Wagner. Ida was born in 1854 and died in 1942.

Unfortunately I don't know Katherina or Valentin's birth or marriage dates, so it's quite hard to find out anymore information. I do know that Valentin was born in Saxony, Germany and that the family lived in Bavaria.

If you happen to run by anyone that meets this description, please pass the information on. It will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Chris,
I saw from another comment you wrote that you are a member of the Society of Australian Genealogists and you were also researching Clunies-Ross?

My Great Grandfather was a Clunies-Ross and left the Cocos Islands to serve in the 1st World War. He was part Cocos Keeling. He ended up in Norway where he married my Great-Grandmother. Their son (my Great Uncle) is my eldest living relative.

The 'story' of our family history is "intriguing". I grew up in South Africa and my grandmother was hesitant to tell me about my Cocos Keeling roots in case I was ever classified as 'coloured' under apartheid!!

I would love to find out more about any research you have done and to help you fill in any more gaps too.

Thanks!
Sya
Me again...I just left a message on one of your other posts. I think what you are saying is that your great grandfather John was the son of Protasies & Magdeline Flach (not son of Simon Flach & Catherine Schall who also had a son named John Flach)??

Unless I'm missing one, Simon Flach Jr. & Kathryn Green had 10 children - one of who was my grandmother, Alfreda (Flach)Oglesby. All the rest of your Michigan names are my great aunts & uncles. In fact, Uncle Sylver (Sylverious)was my godfather. Sure hope I hear from you.

Jean

My grandmother was Elfreda (Flach) Oglesby, daughter of Simon Flach, (Jr.) whose father was Simon Flach (Sr). And of course, Simon Flach (Sr) was one of the sons of Protasies & Magdeline Flach. I would LOVE to have photos of the family farm & old stone house!!
PERFECT!!! I would LOVE any information you have! I thought my e-mail addy was public, but just in case here it is
jacnet@daktel.com

I don't know if you looked at the attachments I had in my post, but one was a hand typed copy of the Family Tree of Amelia Julie(a) Flach! I have no idea how I got it - and with it were two pictures. One showing Amelia. I would be happy to send you the full size document and pics if you don't already have them. Wouldn't it be something if you were the one who sent them to me in the first place??!!.:-) I've probably had them for 30 plus years -started as high school project.

I'm confused by the Sauer connections...there seem to be lot of them. The Family Tree of Amelia's I have does say she was married to Andrew Carl Sauer.

My grandmother, Elfreda (Alfreda) Flach, was the daughter of Simon Flach Jr. & Kathryn Green. My records show Kathryn Green's parents were Frances Green & Theresa Sauer (I have Theresa's death certificate). Could this be the same Theresa Sauer you are talking about?? Theresa (Sauer)Green's parents were Carl Sauer & Mary Herdel.

And then I found THIS -
Bruce Co. 1924
Henry SAUER, 27, machinist, Buffalo, Kitchener, s/o Philip SAUER & Caroline FEIL, married Wilhelmina Mary SCHILL, 22, Carrick, Carrick, d/o John J. SCHILL & Agnes ZIMMER, witn: Sylvester FLACH of Detroit & Hilda SCHILL of Mildmay, 9 September 1924, Mildmay
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~maryc/bruce1924.htm

Sylvester Flach was my grandmother's (Elfreda) brother. So confusing!! I'm thinking Henry might have been a cousin.

Anyway, I believe WE are cousins - removed a few times...as is pjcarew (her grandfather was Aloisios - brother of Amelia). So I am VERY happy to meet you. Please write when you have time.

Jean

Hi, I notice you are looking for info on the children of Simon and Katherine Flach who remained in N.D. My grandmother was Amelia Julia Flach. I have quite a bit of info on them and their family that I could send you. Amelia and her husband Andrew Sauer had 10 children. They lived in Sanborn N.D. Amelia's brother Joseph also lived In Sanborn and was married twice. The second time to Theresa Sauer a niece of Andrew's. On April 5th this year we had a family reunion here in Tucson Az and I got to meet some of the decendants of Joseph and Theresa.

Simon Flach (Flack) - Katherine Scholl

Simon Flach (Flack) was my great-great grandfather. He was born in Germany in 1832. He married Katherine Scholl whom I believe was born in Ontario, Canada in 1837. They had 16 children - Amelia Flach Sauer, Albert, John, Simon (my great grandfather), George, Henry, Alyois, Laurence, William, Alex, Joseph, Theresa Flach Stroh, Aliza (Elizebeth)Flach Hinschberger, Katherine Flach Hinschberger, Leana, and Emila.

This info came from a "hand typed" Family Tree of Amelia Julie Flach. It also containes names of spouses and children. Although much of the information is still undocumented, I believe it to be correct. I also have some pictures which I will try to upload separately (I tried last night & lost everything - including my original post!)along with the hand typed document.

I've been researching off & on (mostly off)for over 30 years. I only wish I could remember which family connection gave me the pictures & Tree!! Oh well, I think it is a valuable piece of information. If anyone has additional info, I would appreciate hearing from you. I have already been in contact with someone who can go back generations on the Scholl side.

Jean

Flach or Flack

I am trying to find information on my great, great grandmother born in Germany in 1840. According to her death certificate her father's name was John Flack. One church record hs her maiden name spelled Flach. She died in 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Christina was married first to Henry or Heinrich ZULAUF. They had several children, all born in Maryland. Christina married a second time to John Reding and had two more children also born in Maryland.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Cindy,

The reason this obituary has been posted to this board is because the persons last name is "Flach". I post obituary abstracts from my local newspaper in hopes the information will help other family researchers. I am not related to this family.

As for the name Helton being spelled incorrectly, that is how it is spelled in the original obituary in the newspaper, so I would have no way of know it was incorrect.

Thank you for pointing out the typing error made by the newspaper.

In Christ,
Melissa

Sorry I can't actually add to the forum. My question is whether anyone has a Anna Kluga on their tree? She married Wawrzyniek (Lawrence) Michalski of Skrzetusz, Posn. Their son Michal is my great grandfather. Birth Records of Michal's children show these places where he was from: Welna, Posn/Skrzetusz, Posn/Krzaluszewo. Oh, the son, Michal was born around 1861, immigrated 1881 and married Antonie Rucinski/and a whole lot of variations for her name! Thank you.

My GGG Grandparents were Marcus and Elizabeth Roberts Warth. Their daughter Ann married a Charles Ziegler. Charles's and Ann's daugter, Mildred, born in 1900 married Richard LeBlond. I have written to the LeBlonds in Cincinnati, self addressed stamped envelope, and they have refused to answer me. My cousin has also done the same and they refuse to answer her. Last year there was a tour of the LeBlond's home in Mt.Adams ( Cincinnati) and my cousin attended, signed the guest register as a relative, but no one showed interest. Nancy
