My mother never met anyone in his family. My grandfather married late and did not start having children util around age 48. His oldest son was Thomas Flanagan then a daughter Marjory Flanagan and then my mother Mary Flanagan. My mothers mother was Catherine Flanagan (Myler)
I know this is not much to go on but I would love to help her find her roots. Mary (my mother) was born in 1932 (i think)
Any and all help is appreciated
He married Mary Ellen O'Halloran and their children were: Joseph, born 1899; Veronica, 1902; Charles Jr.; Lilian, 1926; and Theresa who died as an infant.
Charles died and was buried in Scranton in October 1948.
Vickers Limited - 1914-18

I used to work in the River Don Foundry and later, the Electric Melting Shop. In my time there the company was called BSC River Don and then Sheffield Forgemasters. I left school and became an apprentice Moulder, I then moved to the Melting Shop, where I worked on the pit side producing ingots. I was made redundant in 1987. My time at this works inspired a new line of research. The company was called Vickers Limited when the great war was fought. The men listed worked for this company and died in service during world war one.

The result of this research can be found on my website

http://www.stannington.webitsmart.co.uk

There is information about David Flanagan and his family in the ‘Vickers Steelworks’ section
Please feel free to check it out.

David was a member of the Royal Munster Fusiliers. If anybody can give me more information it would be great, I would really like to know more about his parents Martin and Annie. where and when did they marry, did they have more children, not just David.

The family has connections with the following areas
Thornaby, Stockton-on-tees, Durham, England
West Byker, Newcastle-on-Tyne, England
Sheffield, England

Regards, Robert.
I am looking for information re: Mildred Cadogan born circa 1915/1916, Boston MA. She was/is the adopted daughter of my great grandparents Daniel Cadogan and Mary Jane Morse. She is also aunt and godmother to my father. At a young age she married Eddie Riley, they had a daughter Sheila. After WWII she married Robert Flanagan. It sounds like Robert was a career military man. They had several children and lived in Quincy MA and then went to North Carolina. Until last night I never knew that Mildred had married and had children. **Cadogan has several variant spellings--all show up somewhere in my history. I would love to hear from someone connected with this branch of my family. Thank you.
Marie

Flanagan, Lambert, Blue families of Hampshire Co., WV

Can anyone tell me how these families are connected? I know this much, but still can't tie my data together to link these families.

1. John Flanagan m 1)Eleanor Rees 2)Julia Ann Blue. I show 1 daughter Eliza from his first marriage & 7 children from his second. One old history says his first wife was Julia Ann Hollenback, but the marriage record I found lists her name as Blue.

2. Keziah Blue m 1)John Lambert 2)Isaac Hollenback. I don't know if she had Lambert children. Isaac had children by his first wife, Susannah Johnson, but none with Keziah.

3. I have a deed from John B. Lease, wife Susan who migrated to Green Co., WI, dated 1854 selling their interest in the estate of John Lambert, deceased to John Flanagan. It states that they have legal standing based on the Will of John Lambert.

Was Susan a Lambert? Why would they sell to John Flanagan? Were Keziah Blue & Julia Ann Blue sisters? Who are the parents of John B. Lease? I show John Lambert d 1849, buried in Greenwall cemetery. Keziah Hollenback, wife of Isaac, is buried next to him.

4. I have two other deeds from Isaac Hollenback & Kesiah, his wife, to Samuel Flanagan, William Flanagan, John Robert Flanagan, George Taylor Flanagan, & Mary Bell Flanagan, children of John Flanagan, and any other children said John Flanagan may have by his present wife for the consideration of natural affection they have for said children and $1.00. for all the lands of John Lambert, deceased.

There is a second deed with all the same people conveying livestock. These deeds are dated December 1858. They are explicit that only those named, or their heirs, are included, and no other persons whatsoever.

My list of children for John Flanagan has two additional children not listed, Keziah V. and Sarah.

Does anyone have the will of John Lambert? If John & Keziah had children, why would she leave out her children? Assuming that Keziah & Julia Ann were sisters, the Flanagan children would be her nieces & nephews. Are they sisters?

I'd appreciate any information anyone has to offer on any of these families that might bring some clarity to these families' relationships.

LouAnn in NC
Help needed, I am trying to trace the roots of John & Catherine Flanagan (Flannagan) who appeared in the UK Census of 1881 with four childred, Edward, William, Catherine & Peter. According to the census the children were all born in Liverpool between 1864 and 1873. The parents are however listed as being born in Ireland, no county. These are my great grandparents and the lack of information available in England is driving me insane. I cannot even find Catherines maiden name.
If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.

Flanagan in Quebec Canada

Hi
Im searching for a side of my family that moved from London England in 1907 to Canada.

David John Flanagan left as an orphan in 1907, he was born in approx 1894 in Bethnal Green, London, England. When he arrived in Canada he was a domesic servant to the Bullas family. He served for the Canadian army during WW1 and then he worked as a farmer in Bolton Center, Brome, Quebec. I believe he married Annie Francis in 1921 in Quebec and i think they went on to have atleast 4 children: Lillian, Kathleen, Ronald and Queenie.

Really i would like to know if they had anymore children, whether they are still alive and whether there are any grandchildren?

I believe Lillian and perhaps also Queenie died as children.
I think Kathleen married a man named Albert Graham Crawford (son of Ernest William Crawford and Margaret Brown).

Hope thats enough to go by !

Thanks in advance for any help

Nicola

Flanagan's of East Grenwich, Rhode Island

My great grandmother was the dtr of William & Maria Flanagan of East Greenwich, RI. She married Charles Garberg. The East Greenwich Town Clerk and the EG library have good records. My problem is that the records show many different spellings and I can't be sure if it's the same family or two families.

The last name is spelled in various ways. That doesn't surprise me. But Williams wife shows up as Maria in some records and Mariah in others. East Greenwich has just one catholic cemetery, and there are headstones for William Flanagans spell different ways.

I believe my family shows up in the 1860 and 1870 Census. My great grandmother's name was Mary Ann. The 1860 Census shows Mary L. at 14 years old. She doesn't show 1870. She would have been a Garberg by then.

I'm hoping that someone else is researching the family and may make a connection with the name Garberg. My interest is in identifying Mary Ann's parents.

Periodic Repost. I'm looking for information regarding the siblings of my Grandmother, Theresa Flanagan/O'Flanagan. Her family lived in the New York City area in 1880. Her parents may have been James and Margaret Flanagan.
In the early 1880's her parents were killed in a coach accident, apprx 1881-1882. My Grandmother and her siblings (how many unknown) were placed in an orphanage in Dobbs Ferry NY. Theresa was abt 3 years old at the time. She remembered a brother, Jack, about 5 years older.
The orphanage records burned in a fire, the children were seperated.
Does anyone have an ancestor who was orphaned in the early 1880's???
Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you

He maried matilda walker in st clair co., al on march 1, 1829. showing up at the same time in st clair is a william flanagan born abt 1790 NC with wife sarah. i have been told this is my isham's father but the ages do not match up. If anything, I believe he could be a brother to my isham. Living next door to this william is a family of whitlocks. My ishams grand-daughter Louisa Angeline's son Joeseph was rumored to be father by a whitlock, though he and angeline never married. The whitlocks and flanagan's both came from GA at the same time and lived beside each other in st clair co, al from 1830-1860. Recently, I found a book listing all heads of households in GA in 1820. there were only 2 flanagan's listed. Samuel (cant remember county he was from) and william (hall county). I focused on william because my isham had sons named william. this William was in the rev. war in NC. Living close by him is a family of whitlocks. i thought perhaps this william (born abt 1767, if i remember correctly) might be my isham's father. If anyone has any info on any of the above mentioned...it would be greatly appreciated

I don't know if this is the "Charlie" that you are looking for, my grandmother's grandpop name was Charles Flanagan. Charles was a construction worker whom married a woman named Polly. They had a son name Leroy Flanagan with possible ties to Tyler, TX--exact ties to Dallas, TX. I need to know Charles Flanagan date of birth, and his wife's Polly maiden name.

OHIO / NY Flanagan's

Looking for Flanagan ancestors originating in Staten Island, NY and ending up in Ohio/central Ohio.

Specifically, Edward and Mary McGahee Flanagan had at least one child - Edward II - likely in Ireland (but where in Ireland?).

Edward II married Rose (Kearney?). They had five children, the first two of whom were born in Staten Island, NY. In order of birth (& yrs): Mary, Edward III, John, Rose, and Annie (1854, 1857, 1859, 1861, 1864).

The family moved to West Jefferson, Ohio, Madison County.

There are other Flanagan's in Madison County and I believe they are likely cousins/brothers to Edward II. However, I have no smoking gun to prove it.

If any of this rings a bell, don't hesitate to email.

Thanks,
Tim

Flanagans in Texas

I'm looking for anyone with history of Flanagans in Central Texas, specifically Tyler. My grandfather was Clifford Flanagan. My grandmother was Roberta Flanagan. Some of our ancestors were involved in the Texas military. I'm told that two of them had their pictures in the state capital at one time. One may have been an early state senator? And the other a higher ranking officer in Texas?? I don't have alot of info. I believe there was also a James Wainwright Flanagan. He traveled alot and I think there's a statue of him in Cartagena. I have some old newspaper articles on him from my mother's papers, but I'm not sure of the relation. Thanks!

Flanagans Found in Minnesota and Wisconsin

The THOMAS FLANAGANS that I have found in Minnesota and Wisconsin:
1) 1880, MINNESOTA, Renville County, town of Troy
Flanagan, Thomas 57 Can Ire Ire
Flanagan, Bridget 60 Ire Ire Ire
Flanagan, James 28 Wis
Flanagan, Hannah 16 Wis
Flanagan, Bridget 11 Wis

(I have found an obituary in the Renville Times for a James Flanagan who died on April 20, 1895 “at his home in the town of Troy.” His age at the time of his death was not stated. Burial records state that he was born March 17, 1853 and died April 30, 1895. His birth date of 1853 would make him 27 years old on his birthday in 1880, just a one year difference from the age of 28 shown above.)

Information taken from a death register states that James’ parents were Thomas Flanagan of Canada and Rachel Flanagan of Ohio (which contradicts the name of Bridget in the census). Burial records show a Bridget Flanagan “wife of T F Flannigan” and buried near her son, James (which corroborates the census.)

Question: so an entire family of Flanagans is buried beside each other: mom (Bridget), her son (James), his wife (Elizabeth), and two of their kids with just one person missing: dad (Thomas Flanagan). Why is dad not buried with the others? And with respect to death records, the same question arises: why are there death records for all of the above, but not for dad?

2) 1880, MINNESOTA, Rice County, town of Erin
Flanagan, Thomas 52 Ire Ire Ire
Flanagan, Ellen 53 Ire Ire Ire
Flanagan, Clara 22 MN
Flanagan, Joseph 18 MN
Flanagan, Ellen 15 MN

(this Flanagan was also enumerated in 1870 and 1860 in the same county)

(we have found the obituary for this Thomas Flanagan and he died on March 2, 1904 in Shieldsville, Minnesota. We have also found him in a “History of Rice County.” In both documents, he is described as having been born in Ireland in 1823, migrating to New York in August, 1844, then moving to Rice County, MN, in April, 1857. This is clearly not the Thomas Flanagan that we are looking for.)

3) 1880, WISCONSIN, Vernon County, town of Kickapoo
Flanagan, Thomas 61 Ire Ire Ire
Flanagan, Bridget 59 Wis Ire Ire
Flanagan, William 22 Wis
Flanagan, John 21 Wis
Flanagan, Joseph 16 Wis
Flanagan, Maria 26 Wis
Flanagan, Helen J 14

(this Thomas Flanagan was enumerated in the 1870 and 1860 censuses in the same town in Wisconsin)

(we have found the death record for this Thomas Flanagan. He died on April 2, 1905 in Kickapoo at the age of 84 years. This same death record states that he was born in Longford, Ireland in 1821.)

4) 1870 WISCONSIN, Winnebago County, town of Oshkosh (ward 4)
Flanagan, Thomas 40 Can
Flanagan, Bridget 40 Ire
Flanagan, Michael 20 NY
Flanagan, James 20 OH
Flanagan, Ellen 11 Wis
Flanagan, Mary J 9 Wis
Flanagan, Hanna 5 Wis
Flanagan, Bridget 2 Wis

(this Thomas Flanagan was enumerated in the 1860 census in the town of Appleton, Outagamie County, Wisconsin. No further documents have been received on this one, yet).)

5) OBITUARY: Flanigan, Thomas
This Thomas Flanigan was born in 1889 and appears to be a son of James Flannigan (the first-born child of Thomas Flanagan #1 in the list above). He died in WWI (October, 1918, in France).

6) DEATH CERTIFICATE: Thomas Flanagan
This Thomas Flanagan died in St Paul, Minnesota, on August 15, 1909 and was described as being 62 years, 0 months, and 16 days old at the time of death. That would place his date of birth at July 31, 1847. Place of birth was Ireland. Parents were listed as (father) Matt. Flanagan of Ireland and (mother) ‘Flanagan’ of Ireland. It is not known why this Thomas Flanagan does not appear in the censuses for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900.

7) DEATH CERTIFICATE: Thomas Francis Flanagan
This Thomas Flanagan died in Pleasant Hill, Minnesota (not far from the Wisconsin border) on April 28, 1908 and was “ABOUT 58” years old at the time of death. That would place his date of birth at about 1850. Place of birth was “US.” Parents were listed as (father) Thomas Flanagan of Ireland and (mother) (“no data”) of (birthplace left blank). As with #6 above, it is not known why this Thomas Flanagan does not appear in the censuses for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900.

I can be reached here if you wish to correspond privately:
dflanagan@austin.rr.com

Thanks in advance,
Dan Flanagan
Austin, TX

I have traced a gr grandfather, Philip Flanegan to Lincoln County, NC. He would have been born about 1775 in Pennsylvania. He had a son Phillip Flannagan born 1805 and he is in the FC for year 1810 and 1820 in Lincoln County. By 1830 Phillip, the son, had moved to Wythe County, VA. and the father is no where to be found. I would like Philip Sr.s father's name if possible, also Phillip Jrs. mom. Thanks

Looking to find out about my wifes side of the family. Was able to get a 2000 obituary from West Virginia about her grandmother Leona Virginia (Flanagan) Riggleman. Which stated her parents to be Olve and Ethel Landis Flanagan, (Guessing Landis is the Maiden name not sure.) And able to find a Death account of Ethel (again not sure if correct person) in 1968 in Cumberland Maryland, with a birth date of 2 Oct 1904. If any have information please feel free to post or email me.

Children were Cora Bell, Mary Jane,Ellie Virginia, Anna Blanche, Alice Martha, Harry Edward, Lillie Grace, Nettie Lucretia. I can't seem to find anything but the 1860 census that lists William. Anybody have info on his parents?

James and Mary Flanagan Dover, NH

I am descended from James and Mary Flanagan,
who emigrated from Keady, Armagh, Northern
Ireland to Dover, New Hampshire in the 1860s.
Mary was born Mary Gollogly, and the Flanagan
and Gollogly families were neighbors on the
Mountainy Road in Keady, NI. James and Mary
are buried in St. Mary's cemetery in Dover.
James died at the age of 37 of a heart attack
and many of the 12 children had to go to the
local Catholic home to be reared. My
grandfather, Frances "Frank" Joseph Flanagan,
was taken in by his uncle Patrick Flanagan in
Portsmouth, NH and he got a good education
and spent a wonderful life in San Diego, CA.
I have a history of this family that I would
love to share; it was given to me by my
mother's cousin, Father John Flanagan, of
County Tyrone. I would also love to hear
from any relatives in Ireland or in the US.
Eleanor "Mickie" Virginia Flanagan (McKibbin)
is my mother, and she is very interested in
geneology but is not computer literate.

Flanigan Flanagan Flannigan Flannagin of Galway, IRELAND

Hello. I am hoping to hear from someone having information on a certain Flanigan or Flanagan family of Galway (possibly Ballycleary) - Father, Patrick; Mother, Mary (Reynolds may be maiden name); daughter Nora (Honor, Honoria, Hannorah), b. April 1874-78, daughter Margaret, b. March 1879, and possibly more children, including a Michael (could be a cousin or uncle). Nora, Margaret, and Michael all ended up in Pittsburgh in the 1890s. Many thanks in advance! Heather
hblayton@yahoo.com
