Like Allison Causton in another message, I have researched Flavelles considerably in the parishes of Drumcree, and Kilmore, near Portadown. I know the names of your great grandparents, and may have a little information somewhere. I have just started back into genealogy after a three year break. When I find the information about Charlotte Bennison and George Flavelle I will send what I have. I am not directly connected to your family, though I suspect many of the Irish Flavelles have a common origin.

My great grandmother was Mary Jane Flavell m Brownlee and her mother was Charlotte Bennison m George Flavell. George and Charlotte had five sons---Joseph, William,Thomas, Jonathan and George Henry.

stan not sure if your gonna see this as i have no subscription so cant contact you directly. i see from my Member Connect Activity that you added information on josiah horton he was the father of my great grandmother ellen horton. he married caroline taylor andrews in 1875 in walsall. could you supply any information on caroline's side of the family i know her mothers name was sarah but thats all. hope you can help.

Where was your William born?
What was was his father name?
I'm also looking for a William who was born 1893 on 1901 census Dudley.
He is 18 on the 1911 census and a bicker yard labourer.

The family came to NZ in 1914 but he did not come.
there are several possiblities? But What!!!!!

I am interested in obtaining the Probate/Will Record for my Great-Grandfather I. Allen Cline Died: 28 Mar 1906 Oakwood, Ralls, Missouri. I have been trying to verify his first name and have been unable to do so--- I have:
1870 Census- listed as Ellen
1880 Census- listed as I. A. Cline
1900 Census- listed as Allen Cline
Died in 1906 and Death Certificate is not available
- Burial: Hydesburg Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery
Headstone Photo- listed as Allen A. Cline
- I have Death Certificates for his wife Emma, all children except Mable Lillian (Cline) Savage and they all list his name as Allen
- I have 3 obituaries and they all list his name as Allen
Pretty much at a loss as to how to proceed any further

I am a direct descendent of the Flavelles you mentioned.

William Flavelle died 1852 is my 5th great grandfather. I am a branch of the family that emigrated to Canada. I have been tracing the genealogy back to Ireland.

Do you by any chance have any information that predates that Flavelle (Fleuill) that you mention?

The Kate Flavell, born England and that married William Goodman Payne is a cousin. Her daughter Elizabeth "Elsie" Goodman married Henry Glenn Eastman and they moved from Montana to Minnesota where Henry (went by Glenn) was born. Yes, that the guy, Hilary. He still has descendants in Leeds and elsewhere. If you trace your famiily's connection, do let me know! Absalom (correct spelling!) was my grand uncle. He lived 1875-1953.

He had a nephew of the same name, b. 1903, who was quite a character but very different from his unlce!

Hello came across your info' about Absolam Flavell while researching my own family.
Not a relie' as I know, though my Gran used to say there was somewhere?. I never looked.
What I remember is the man himself. He used to attend our church. I think one of his sons was our organist when I was growing up in the 1950's. I remember where they lived & where their graves are in Moorthorpe Cemetery. Am I right in thinking that Absolum was a member of Council etc?. He seemed to be an important figure in the village & area.

I am not of the English Flavelles. My family came from Portadown in County Armagh, Ireland. I have been researching Flavelles for many years and am aware of your family through the internet postings. I am trying to find the link between William (b.1826) and another Flavell who arrived in New Zealand before William and Eleanor a Thomas Flavell (1799-1869) baptised manchester cathedral 3 feb 1799.

there is a long standing story of these two men being related but no proof only that these men both came to new zealand, to the same small town but at different times and both were born in close proximity in england.

any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

I talked briefly on the phone, however Marion said that her son Geoff was going to send me either an e-mail or a message in this Message Board. I am trying to make a contact with Marion Flavell if possible. She was my "Pen Pall" back in the 1950's and I have several letters that she sent to me. She was 12 years old in 1952 and living at 51 Grove Drive at South Kirkby at Nr Pontefract, Yorkshire, England. She had a sister Evelyn..two brothers Allan and Brian. I still live in Maine, USA.

Leicester Flavells

Hi,

Looking for further info on William Flavell b.1842 and John Thomas Flavell 1863. Both were stonemasons.

I believe the Flavells were in partnership with the Curry family and had a stonemasonry business in Gladstone St.

They crafted the Samuel Billington memorial in Belgrave Cemetary.

I'm actually related to Alice Curry who married William Flavell.

Michael, you have quite a few possibilities. First, join the FLAVEL mailing list on Rootsweb. (Send an email to FLAVEL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'subscribe' in the subject line and in the body of the message.) It may well be that someone on the list has Brian in their family tree. You could also try the various FLAVELL pages on Facebook, or even just Google for "Brian Flavell" + RAF (type it in exactly like that, with the quote marks) and if that doesn't find any leads, try "Brian Flavell" + Anstey.

Hi Satima hope you can help, I am trying to find a Brian Flavell who lived in Anstey Leicestershire during the 1940s
and 50s. we think he went to join the RAF.
He was a close friend of my father Arthur smart and he would really like to meet him again.

I am just trying to locate any descendents of James Flavelle who married Elizabeth Haughton 27th February 1857. I believe at this stage they were in Australia.

I am hoping they may be able to shed some light of the history prior to their marriage in 1857. The Flavelle line may have originated from the USA.

James & Elizabeth Flavelle had five children.
Charlotte who died 28/11/1918 unmarried:
John Haughton Flavelle who married Elizabeth Porteous Calvert Dickenson:
Mary Jane Flavelle (died 26/8/1935) who married John Ryder Barfett on the 11/12/1880:
George died 6/6/? Unmarried:
Emily died 24/9/1943 unmarried.

I am a descendent of Mary Jane Flavelle/John Ryder Barfett

Isaac is my great grandmothers father he is said to have made money in the Californian goldrush hence the naming of the area in Birmingham U.K.he built a pub called the California Inn. H ave you any proof that he was in California U.S.A.

You don't give any years or locations, so it's difficult to answer with any accuracy.

Perhaps he was a widow when he married the second time. Search for a record of his first wife's death (or remarriage!).

FWIW, it was common in England before the 1900's for people to commit bigamy, since divorce was almost impossible to obtain and so expensive.

Two examples. An ancestor, Harry B, registered four daughters between 1880-1890 under his own name, mother of all 4 Jessie B, formerly Blunt. Searching for a marriage certificate finally turned one up in 1895 when Harry B. married Jessie Blunt, SPINSTER. Don't ask why but obviously they lied through their teeth on the birth certificates. Recently children of a cousin made contact after 50 years and told me my cousin (and her husband of course) who married in 1947 had lied consistently to their three children about the fact the husband had been married before and they had half-sisters, until 1998 - more than fifty years. Perhaps the reason why my cousin had told her children I was dead (!!) - I might have let it out. Moral: accept that almost anyone can lie about almost anything if it suits them. Best of luck.

I have a question, I have found a member of my family only problem is there are two marriage certs for same name a Frederick Smith Flavell who has the same fathers name on cert with the same occupation for the father. Only he is classed as a bachelor on both certs on one he marrried a widow but these are both church weddings. On one cert the age is listed as of full age this is the second cert but first cert has his age. I guess would it be a common thing to Marry and lie of previous marriage. Any tips would be greatly apprieceated.

Isaac Flavell and Ann Chinn

There seems to be a lot of chatter that this Ann Chinn was the daughter of Ann Barnwell. Can anyone confirm this. I am a descendant of this line of Chinns in Birmingham and I am trying to grow the tree outwards to my cousins. This group of Chinns can be pushed back to the late 1600's.

My name is Mickey Flaville and I descend from William Flavell. He was born in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. He was born in 1784. His son Edward Flavill came to the USA in 1827. Edward's son William Henry Flaville added an e to the end of our name. Edward and William Henry lived their lives in Chester, PA. One of William's sons, Claude moved to Phila., PA. That's how my Flavell/Flavilles came to live in PA.

Hi Stan,
I will get my Isaac Flavell info together and ring you at the weekend. I am descended from Rebecca Flavell, his eldest daughter who ended up in Manchester. (I am a Mancunian) I also havent found evidence of his wealth from the goldrush. Dates do not appear to tally. He bought Stonehouse Farm in 1842, at an auction for 9355 guineas.
I now live near Birmingham UK so have easy access to local archives etc.
