Would love it if you could look for me on face book, because of your thread I found The photo online of our Great grandfather Edmundson Fleeton and he reminds me of my dad and his brothers. Now I know where he is buried which is not even ten minutes from my parents home. I am going to plan a trip over and take my dad to the area to see the church and grave. So nice to hear from you and hope to talk soon Sandra

hi Sandra,
i was extremely excited when i read your msg! Indeed we are related as my grandmother was Robert's sister, her name was Emily Anne but went by the name of Daisy, apparently, given to her by her father...Edmondson's wife ...my great grandmother Mary came to Australia in 1926 to live with my grandmother and her family. She brought with her the youngest of her children James Clark. I have alot of info that might be interesting to you....which I have uncovered only in the last few years. would be great to share our findings ...i will look for you on FB if that's ok. Can't wait to hear back from you
kay

hi, I was very happy to hear from you as i am extremely interested in my Fleeton heritage. Edmondson was my great grandfather . He married my great grandmother Mary Ann Mahon . He died in 1910 and she came here to Australia in 1926, following her only surviving daughter, my grandmother Emily Anna, who came here in around 1916. I have a few more details on this family if you are interested. I wonder do you have anymore on Edmondson's family in Northern Ireland? Thanks for making contact..it's always good to chat to someone who shares the same interest,or even better, family members
regards Kay

Kay,

None of the names ring a bell but I haven't traced that far back yet. All I know about that generation, so far, is my GGG grandfather's name. He was also a William Fleeton (Fleeting) and it fits with your approximate dates. However William was one of the most popular Fleeton names so it's too little to go on at this stage.

If I should discover he had a sister called Jane or a daughter called Mary I'll let you know.

There's probably a connection somewhere as Fleeton was such an uncommon name. It's just a matter of finding it.

I'll also pass on your post onto another Fleeton researcher who knows a lot more about the family.

hi, yes i have my great grandfathers name..it was Edmondson and he was born around 1850 and was in the RIC..i actually have a photo of him in his uniform. He died in 1910 and I ahve the death cert..he was married to Mary Mahon . I found out the name of my great great grandfather through the death cert and i also discovered that he had a sister Jane...my grandmother was Emily Anna but apparently was given the nickname of Daisy from her father. She came out here to Australia on her own in 1916. She was born in 1892. It appears the young Edmondson and Mary moved to around the Drogheda area.Maybe this might help..i also know the names of my grandmothers siblings but apparently most of them died quite young..thanks Kay

I'm also trying to find the Fleeton connection in my family. My name is Mary Banks. My mothers maiden name is Georgia Fleeton. Her father was Thomas Fleeton, he was born in 1898 and died in 1974. He had brothers that were Charles, John, Claude Adams and a sister named Bettie and cousins named Charles and Fletcher Fleeton. His mother was Nellie Adams Perry. They are from Lowndes County, in Alabama. He lived in Escambia County, Century. Florida from 1938-1974. Prior to that (1920's) he lived in Venice, Illinois. He has relatives in Ohio, not sure where. Is any of this familiar to you.

Ours didn't emigratge until the current generation.

So far I haven't been able to find any connection between the Northern Ireland and Australian Fleetons but have seen numerous posts from an Australian researcher trying to locate a George Fleeton who was born in Belfast in the very early 1800s. But so far I haven't found any connection to that name.

Hi just found your site. Dont know if this has any relevance but here goes, my father was Roland Fleeton, i know he had brothers, called William, Walter, Laurence, George, i know there was a cousin called Dermot he died 1984 (married to Lily), i know my fathers mother was called Mary Collins and she was protestant although she brought her family up catholic. I also remember William was married to a lady called Sarah Anne, they did not have any family. Let me know if this is helpful!
fleet_r@yahoo.co.uk

My grandmother was Elizabeth Fleeton. Born co. Antrim, Norhtern Ireland 1910/1911. Her father was William Fleeton. Married John Millen in 1935 in the Moravian church. Had a daughter in 1940, whom she abandoned. Later went on to have another family - daughter Constance and son Dermot?

I think she may also had a brother who migrated to Canada and was possibly killed on duty in the Canadian Mounties.

My branch of the family is now living in Australia.

Just beginning my family research and would appreciate any leads.

My husbands cousin married a Fleeton. His ancestry in Australia goes back to George Fleeton born Belfast Ireland 1808 and came to Australia around 1840. There are not a lot of Fleeton's in Australia but when researching immigration records it was noted that a lot of Fleeton's left Ireland for USA around the late 1890's early 1900's. They seemed to leave as families arriving in New York, etc.

They had 11 Children - William, James, Samuel, Robert, Catherine, Elizabeth, John, George, Jane, Ann, and 1 male deceased. Hope this of help to you.

Dear Ken:
I received your message and thought I would write. Charles Henry Fleeton and Sarah McComb were my great grandparents. If you are going to Ireland you may want to visitlower Ballinderry, where Charles was born. His fathers name was James. I think that a few years ago we had spoken on the phone as I was doing research on the Fleeton family. Sarah was born in Annagmore, Castledawson. I have other information on the family so if you would like to keep in touch, I will keep you informed. The family belonged to the Moravian Churh in Ballinderry and Belfast. Hope you have a good trip over there and I look forward to hearing from you again.
Kindest Regards
Colleen Trowbridge
