Hi.
I descend from Hardy Fleetwood, son of William, who married Sarah Redditt through son Hatton Redditt Fleetwood.

I believe you are getting your William Fleetwoods confused. Ironically enough, her father John Howell married her mother-in-law Jane (maiden name unknown) McGlaughon who married Jeremiah McGlaughon.

I'm searching for information on my grandfather's family. His name was Etcyl Fleetwood--born in Missouri, was in the Navy during WW2, married Donna L Jaurretche (aka Lydia Jaurretche), and passed away in late March 2007. I believe his father & mother's names are John & Ellen.

To my knowledge, he was kicked out of his home at 7 years old and worked as a farm hand until he was old enough to join the Navy--which led him to CA. I do know he was married before my grandmother and he has a few children other than my aunts, uncles, and father.

If anyone has any information about him or his family, please let me know!

Thank you.

Edward died shortly after coming to Jamestown. Francis came also but there is not much mentioned. Edward apparently owned the rights/charter to come to Jamestown. If you will check their birthdates you will see edward and francis are brothers. Edward was the recorder for the city of london.

I am so glad you found this indiscrepancy too. So you think that Francis Fleetwood born in 1620 was the son of Francis Fleetwood, not Edward? I have found evidence of Edward coming to Jamestown in 1609 with the 2nd Virginia Founding Company but no evidence of his brother Francis. Anything you can share to help me put the older Francis in Jamestown would really help so much.

Thanks, Leslie

Wow! Thank you so much. I would have to go back to my old computer to double check emails that your cousin & I wrote years ago. At one point I believe I found records on two C. Noble Fleetwoods, slight variations, so I was not sure if there really was another one. My Mother (also aged 80 in March) and her side of the family always referred to him as Noble, not Charley. I also need to go to Georgetown for the original records. I have not done that as it is a distance away from me thus expensive in gas, lol. Also didn't know if the marriage was annulled, would they still have a marriage record. Need to call them, and also get more info from my mother. Thx again. geredw2@aol.com

Hi Jackie! I rec'd your email today. I have pieced together some information on Evan Fleetwood. His father was Curtis Fleetwood b 1821, his mother was the second wife of Curtis. Her name was Elizabeth, b 1840 but I don't know her maiden name. Curtis's first wife was Elizabeth Pepper b 1821 and died before 1860. Curtis was living with the 2nd Elizabeth in the 1860 census. Curtis had at least 3 children by Elizabeth Pepper and he had at least 7 by the 2nd Elizabeth b 1840. Curtis' date of birth has been a source of concern because in some census records he was shown as born in 1809 and in others 1820 or 1821. Curtis MAY BE A son of William Fleetwood who supposedly died in 1821 before Curtis was born. Curtis could also be a son of a Fleetwood who left the area or died young? Curtis could also be an illegimate child of a Fleetwood girl ?... Curtis was raised by a sister of Cyrus Fleetwood who married a Jones.

I have placed all of these in my tree while I am trying to connect the dots to my grandfather James Edward "Kemp" Messick , a cousin to Evan. I will send you an invite to see my tree and you can enter names to see what I have.

My gr grandfather was William Henry Fleetwood b. 1851 in PA. The census reports say his father was born in DE. My Mom recalls that the family came from the Seaford area. His wife was Sarah E. My Grandmother Bertha Mae was the youngest child. She married William Andrew Seeley. The siblings I have for her are: George, Laura (Lollie)Bessie, Nellie, Charles William Henry, and Bertha. I have been trying to find the parents of William Henry b 1851. If anyone has come across these names, I would appreciate your info.

I'm on an old computer on dialup - way too slow! And I'm only on here as a guest. I will try the other Fleetwood location, but on my other searches I have not found any other posts by her in years. She lived in Bear DE, but internet searches appeared as tho she moved to Wilmington? I just want to know who my relatives are, and for them to know we do exist, even though no one seems to remember Noble had a child prior to his marriage to the King teenager. My grandmother was also a teenager 5 years prior to the King girl. Thx again. Gere Durkin

Francis and Edward Fleetwood

My search has Edward and Francis arriving in Jamestown in 1609. Edward died shortly after arriving. My search shows that Francis was born around 1587 in England and after arriving in Jamestown he is hard to follow. Edward apparently was not married according to his will. There is no mention of wife only his siblings. Francis apparently had to have a son he named Francis that was born in 1620. There are numerous trees stating that Edward had a son named Francis but his will does not support that. Francis's whereabouts are very hard to locate once he arrived in Jamestown. My search has taken me to my 6th ggf who was Henry Fleetwood. It is here where dates start to get confusing.Any help from Henry to the arrival of the Fleetwoods in 1609 from England might answer some of my questions.

Fleetwood, Brenda - Family origin Sussex Cnty DE - Noble Fleetwood

Where is Brenda Fleetwood? I was researching Noble Fleetwood of Sussex County as a relative and was contacted by Brenda Fleetwood a number of years ago, around 2000. We lost contact and I am not able to reach her. She had valuable info on the Fleetwoods of Bridgeville,DE of which I am related. Any help would be appreciated. She was my only hope in tracing my roots. My grandmother Mary A. Golden was married to Noble for a short time before the marriage was annulled. My Mother, Marie Josephine Golden-West never met her father. He later remarried, I believe to a young girl with the last name of King (?). Both her and her unborn child died during childbirth. So Noble had no children.

The Willats are a very small family based in Reading. Not to be confused with the commoner surname Willets. The majorty of the Willats / Willots are non-conformist townsman. I am from the side of the family associated with Lord Cadegan from Caversham. The Willats lived at Kidmore End and were High Sherifs of Oxfordshire. They lost their estates after bancrupty. Being of royal descent they were not sent to prison but allowed to live free in a street in London. The only member of the family I found later was Leut. Col. Peter Willats. The remainder of the family disappeared from the record, possibly emigrated.

Charles Willats wife eludes me. I have a possible Mary Fleetwood. I suspect the marriage took place overseas. His nephew Thomas Willats 1762-1831 married Elizabeth Laura Littlehales in 1788. She was a descendant of Charles II and the Dukes of Leinster. The latter and his father were both High Sherifs of Oxfordshire. They are also related to the Higgins family who died out only leaving females. A nephew surname Willats changed his name and by act of parliament the titles were recreated. The Willats are also related to the Copleys of Wadsworth. So perhaps the Fleetwoods are not part of this family.

Your post was forwarded to me by a cousin since another cousin and I have done extensive research on the Fleetwood line. We believe Henry's father was Francis Fleetwood and have good documentation to support our supposition. I encourage you to contact our cousin. She is an authority on the Fleetwoods and is always happy to share. Unfortunately she is not online. Send me an email if you would like her name and phone number.

Hello, Karen.

I am also a Karen and the great-great-granddaughter of Jermiah M. Fleetwood. [The M. MAY be Morris; Morris was the name listed for him by one of his granddaughters when her mother (Jermiah's daughter) died. M is listed as a middle initial in at least one census report.]

My great-great-grandmother was Jermiah's first wife, Susan Catherine (nee Scott) Fleetwood.

By the way, I have your great-great-grandmother's name spelled as Zabra Nora.
Leslie;
the only new info i've been able to get is the following:

"History of Perquimans County
Ellen Goode Rawlings Winslow, Watson Mrs. Winslow
Page 349
(Info from books.google.com/books)
FLEETWOOD

Among subjects at Jamestown 1609, can be found the name of Edward Fleetwood Gent. (Brown Genesis to America.) Also listed among “adventurers to America” 1620, Sir William Fleetwood, and Edward Fleetwood Esq. Francis Fleetwood was granted land in Lower Norfolk Co Va, March 1652, adj Williams Robins, (Norfolk Co records.) He was probably the ancestor of William Fleetwood of Bertie Co
N.C. whose will was probated June 12, 1769, naming sons: William, Henry, John, James, Edmond, Hardy, wife Elizabeth (nee Ashley). His son Henry Fleetwood, will p(robated) May, 1777, in same county, names only one son; William Hooten Fleetwood, dau’s Sarah, & Elizabeth, wife Sarah, nee Hooten, and bro-in-law William Hooten, cousin William Hardy.
William Fleetwood (3) m Sarah Capehart, Dec 17, 1792. The Perquimans records have nothing to say of the early Fleetwoods, and it seems certain they resided
in Chowan Co, until comparatively late years, where many marriages of this family took place. Without county records for reference, one is at sea when trying to work out a family tree. The marriages of Fleetwoods in Chowan Co, are as follows:
Jeremiah Fleetwood, m Elizabeth Thompson. Dec 18. 1788 (Mar bonds Chowan.)
Jeremiah Fleetwood m 2d Mary Pilkinton. July 17, 1790. (Mar bonds Chowan.)
Edmund Fleetwood, m Lydia Bennett. Oct 18, 1813 (Mar bonds Chowan.)
Ashley Fleetwood, m Parthenia Mewborn. Dec 13, 1814. (Mar bonds Chowan.)
From the last named are descended the family, by that name in Perquimans.
Bertie Co. Marriage bonds
William Fleetwood, m Elizabeth Ashley. Oct 5, 1763
Jeremiah Fleetwood, m Sarah Fleetwood. Oct 3, 1774
Edmund Fleetwood, m Winnefred Sparkman. Dec 5, 1785
Elizabeth Fleetwood, m William Billups. May 23, 1787

Page 350

Excursus, Ashley. Subject in Colony at Jamestown, May 23, 1609; John Ashley. (Browns Genesis to America)
Samuel Ashley came from London to Va in Bonaventure, Jan 1634, age 19.
(Hotten)
John Ashley of Perq, made a deed Nov 21, 1751 unto Joseph Ashley, “land on East side of Yeopim Creek Perq Co, which my mother, Sarah Ashley gave me.” Joseph Ashley here named m Sarah Hall, Oct 16, 1787 (Mar bonds Perq Co). William Ashley also lived in Perquimans, and it was his daughter whom William Fleetwood married, it is thought. James Ashley m Elizabeth Langley (widow) in Norfolk Co
Va July 15, 1769 (Mar bonds Norfolk Co). William Ashley, m Hanna Penrice, Apl 19, 1757 (Mar bonds Perq Co). He m 2d Elizabeth Nichols, Mar 25, 1760. Of course neither of these mothers could have been the mother of Elizabeth, who m Wm Fleetwood. William Ashley, m 3d Mrs Elinth Penrice (widow of Francis) Feb 6, 1764. His first wife was Sarah Harloe, and it seems probably that she is the one mentioned in the deed by her son John Ashley, 1751. "

probably won't be of too much help, but info seems rather sparse. i've got a couple of books on order, one that should have some info of the early Fleetwoods, and if i can get anything new, i'll put it here.

Sue

My father was Thomas Evan Fleetwood of DE (1926)
Brooks Fleetwood, grandfather abt. 1905
I think Evin Fleetwood was his father. Then I cannot
seem to trace back past that. All of Delaware.

Do you have any names in your tree for Tom, or IH Brooks Fleetwood?

Thank you, Jackie Fleetwood

Yes, Brooks had a brother George. His father was Evan Fleetwood and mother Elizabeth. Do you have any birth or death dates, or wives of Brooks Fleetwood. He was married to Florence Hammond, my grandmother.

Jackie

I too am related to Henry Fleetwood b. 1673, descended from Francis Fleetwood b. 1620 in Virginia. I am having trouble trying to verify his father (as Edward passed away before he was born in 1608 in Jamestown, Va.) Can you offer me any help?

Thanks so much for any help....
Hi Sue,
It is actually Jacob Francis Fleetwood who I am looking for. Living in Dublin in 1855.
My Great Grandfather was his son Thomas Fleetwood, born in Dublin City in 1855.
He married Ann(ie) Rice, sister of Monica Rice and child of Thomas Rice and Margaret Murphy, who lived in or about Glencree, Co Wicklow. Thomas Rice was a Stone Mason.
Thomas Fleetwood and Ann(ie) Rice were married in 1877 in Rock Ferry, Wirral, Cheshire.

Do you have any info on Jacob?
Regards
Andy
e-mail; fandf.mac@tiscali.co.uk
