I agree. I am told "Flemming" is the English spelling while "Fleming" is the Scottish version. For those of you who have early provincial ancestors with a given name, "David", you may be interested in visiting my website http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=barnhill1...

P.S. I can't answer questions about your ancestors who migrated through North Carolina in the 1700's. Happy hunting.

I have run into the same problem. I know from family records and stories that my Fleming side of my family were ScothIrish and settled in County Fermanugh, Northern Ireland, U.K. but I have reached a impass on trying to locate my Fleming Family and where they originated in Scotland. But history states that most of the Scoth Irish who settled into Northern Ireland originated in Southern Scotland. I hope this helps you in your quest.

Hello I see some info you are posting on John Fleming, now I do not know if you would have any information I am looking for, but I do have Earl of Fleming, Wigton, Now it started out of Scotland but we have found that the Wigtons have gone from Scotland, England to Ireland. The last person I have with a year of birth is James Wigton b. 1698, unaware in what country, but his father is listed as Earl of Fleming Wigton. If by any chance you have some information that would be great. If not I hope you can find the information you are looking for. Kirsten Stephens (Alvord)

I have a great-grandfather, a Richard A Fleming(c 1856) BWI, and can not find records of his family from there. We are in the US and my father, Harold Fleming, and I have run into trouble finding anything on-line. Please contact me (hgordonsart@live.com) if you know of or are from this line.
Whether or not the Fleming name in itself is a Clan is up to the Lord Lyon. It has long been placed with Clan Murray as an associative family (as many other are).

Vicki Fleming
Clan Murray Genealogist (NA)

W.D. Fleming, son of Ransom Emory Fleming made the big move from Cherokee county, NC. to Oklahoma and then parts of west Texas where his descendants still live today.

In fact I am recruiting some living descendants of Samuel into the Fleming Y DNA study. We already have a descendant of John in the study. I would like to share information as I believe we are close to linking our Flemings with the immigrant family that came to Delaware.
Still think that there is a relationship here but the Elijah I am working w/ married an Eliza Jane ? Here's the background I have. Elijah Flemming b: 1830 married Eliza Jane? in 1852 and they had a son named David born Aug 1854 in Indiana. In the 1860 Census Elijah and David were the only ones in the household but the line above him on the census is a Henry Flemming b 1809 in Kentucky and was living w/ his daughter Cynthia Ray. They were living in Cooperstown IL. Elijah was mustard to serve in the Civil War May 24, 1861. Elijah died Dec 7 1862 (either in a hospital or in battle or mb disease) He left his son w/ a guardian named G.P. Dervitt as I found a paper stating David's pension was issued Oct 12, 1863 since David was 6 yrs old. David Flemming married a Jessie Pierce in Phelps Nebraska Feb 10, 1884 They had 3 children Hattie Albert and Grover The were all born in Milford Illinois 1900 Census stated that Jessie was head of household w/ the 3 kids and David was renting a house south of Milford. She remarried a Rufus Cook Sept 6 1900. Don't have a clue were David went. Jesssie died in 1906. Albert married Ida May Morris in 1907 Jessie and David parents were both deceased since the marriage application for Albert was co signed by a guardian Walter Gasaway (close friend of the family) Albert had 4 children. Son Donald b; Oct 31, 1890 married a Joyce Arseneau 1951 They had 5 children Son Steve b April 5, 1953 and he had 3 children from his 1st wife. Divorced and married my sister October 2000.
Here is my theory: Elijah and David move to Cooperstown IL after Elijah lost his wife sometime after 1855 to go live near his "uncle" Henry who owned 1000 acres of ground to farm etc I guess people moved where the money was.
I have a friend that I will contact about this Warren In as she is from that area. I will see what she says Thanks again Lets keep in touch. Sincerely Dee Eckersley

Elijah was married to Minerva Norton. she dies in 1879,and he died in 1877- bth are listed as dying in Indiana. Does that match what you know about yourElijah? It would be great... We have worked hard on him...and are not done yet... There is another Elijah, similar In Age and location. I know that there is a cryptic note about someone dying of TB (consumption) but I can't tell if that is correct or not. There is a small note abt a blacksmith Elijah Fleming,-from warren, Indiana, in the little town (is it williamsport? that is now nearly abandoned! That article says that he was a blacksmith and served for a bit as a local postmaster at his generally store /
Blacksmith shop. He has so little record otherwise.nthere was an early plat map with drawings of A small patch of a church settlement, that I have driven through and is now a corn field on all four corners. S no record there either. It's no longer anyplace. I have written th e church of God that I believe was the denomination, but they have never responded to me requests.

He died when his son william was abt ten years. There was a small family story abut William being raised by "family"but no one knows what that may have meant, exactly.

Elijah Fleming was my gggrandfather. He is still somewhat of a mystery to us in the Fleming family, as there has yet to be any hard proof of his father. I am out of town, but will reply a bit more later. His information on my mtree is accurate, although we are DNA checking the parentage. It appears to be accurately pater Flemings line, but we lose a few generations in the middie between Peter and Elijah. The suspicion has always been James. Fleming from Williamsport. The courthouse burned down ion th at town, and so there is a lack of accurate records. Still workng on it though. I will be happy to share with you what I have. Lavezzij@aol.com

Judith lavezzi
