I also know that at least the Dean Flinders Family do not believe Wilkie every remarried.

Flinders in Lewis Co., Kentucky

1870 census in Lewis County shows a David D. Flinders, 31, farm laborer, born in
Ohio. He is "living with" a Maria Flinders, 28, keeping house, born in
Kentucky. Is there anyone who is doing research on this gentleman?

Maria Flinders marries in 1877 a James W. Patton. Maria's maiden name was Anna Mariah
Gray, daughter of Robert K Gray, Sr. and Louesa Irvin. She was born in 1841 in Vanceburg.

David D Flinders was living with John H. Flinders in 1860 in Lewis County. He served
in the 22 Kentucky Inf. during the Civil War, but I can find no record of a marriage
to Maria or a divorce. David D. Flinders did not died, but married a lady by the
name of Permalia, last name unknown. They had a son named Percy D. Flinders, who
in the 1880 census in one year old.

Maria and David had no children. Maria did have a son named James W. Patton.

Linda
familysearching@earthlink.net

Joseph, I see your are researching the Flinders connection to Cherokee. My grandmother Leta Flinders from Lewis Co. KY, was dark skinned and my father was even more dark skinned. I have always believed that we had American Indian in our line. I would love to find out and if I can help in any way, let me know... I live near Kentucky, so that might help. Were there Cherokee records kept? Let me know...Karen

so glad you repliedand wado equa <many thanx> for your info. After Jackson's forced removal the cherokee were ordered to sign a register called the dawes roles however many refused to sign and escaped to the hills and dispersed. These refugees often denied their blood in order to survive and blend in. Most of Ky has these "forgotten indians". The CNO (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) does not accept any not on the roles...to my knowlege.

Did I mention, my Grandmaw was Avis Smith, her mom was Pearl Baily...adopted, mom says she was Tsalagi (Cherokee). Avis married Keneth Flinders here in Lewis Co...they had 13 kids...LOL

The Leslie Flinders I sent details of to you had/has the following brothers

Richard (died 1964) and Herbert (killed in an air-raid 1941) who were older, Douglas (died ) who was younger. Their father was Richard as mentioned previously.

If the Leslie you seek was other than the above then his birth was not registered in England under that name. The is a Leslie Flinders living in Queensland, Australia.

I have a complete list of all Flinders birth, death and marriages in England and Wales 1837 up until 1998. Bear in mind that the marriage information I gave to you last time was a "may". I have only the index information, not the certificate. The marriage may have been that of a younger Leslie.

Regards

Keith.

Keith Flinders
Wellington, NZ

Many of their descendants are to be found in the UK and the US.

Email me for more details, far more than can be posted here. A word of caution. The LDS site lists William as the son of Richard and Mary (CLARK) FLINDERS, but the research is decidely questionable.

Regards

Keith

Hi,

I just came across your site as I was looking for more information about William and Dinah Towl (Towel) Flinders. My name is Jean Flinders Tau'a. I am a direct decendant of The William Flinders line. My Father, Roland Flinders, researched his genealogy back to William and Dinah and that is as far aw he was able to get before he passed away. Any information that you could share with me or I could share with you, would be greatly appreciated. Here is the order of Flinders families that I have: Roland (my father), Willard Samuel Flinders, Willard Flinders, John Flinders, William Flinders, Samuel Flinders, and finally, William Flinders and Dinah Towel. If this connects for any of you, Please e-mail me and we can exchange info. jeantaua@visto.com

Hi Keith,
Have you ever seen Dinah towl's name spelled Towel? That is the way my father spelled it in his records. I have her birth date as 10 Apr, 1732 in Calton, Nottingham, England. Does this jive with what you have? Love to hear from you. By the way, where do you reside? I am in Roy, Utah.
Jean

Hi Jean,

Thanks for your message. I have seen TOWLE listed as both TOWEL and TOWL, and expect that depending upon who heard the name being said, wrote it down as they heard.I have also seen her first name recorded as Diana, Dinnah etc. I have not seen a birth or baptism date for, but certainly the year you have could be about right. If she was born in Carlton then I expect her baptism would have taken place in Gedling. I have not found it on the IGI. Do you have easy access to the Genealogy Library in SLC or at Ogden ?Her husband William was born about 1724, and was not the son of Richard and Mary (CLARK) FLINDERS as will be found in some ancestral files.

I am in New Zealand, but have visited Roy, Utah more than once during study tours of the Genealogy Library in SLC. Do you know my cousin Donna Beus who lives in Roy ?

I have a lot of FLINDERS information for Utah, and the rest of the world, but little for TOWL(E) and TOWEL. Are you descended from William and Dinah also ?

My email address is flinders@ihug.co.nz

Regards

Keith Flinders
Wellington, NZ
I am a GGreat granddaughter of William Flinders and Henrietta James. I have verified William Flinders parents to be Samuel Flinders, christened 16 Oct 1757, mother Elizabeth Brooks, baptised 24 Sep 1760; Samuel's father was William Flinders baptised 21 Feb 1732, mother Diana (Ann) Towl/Towle, baptised 17 Dec 1737; William's father was Richard Flinders baptized 11 Aug 1689, mother Mary Clark, born about 1712; Richard's father was John Flinders, born about 1656 probably in Gedling, Notts, England, mother Mary Sparton, born about 1662 (unable to find John's or Mary's baptism/christening records, but they were married 28 May 1680 in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, England. If you desire more information (I have children of each couple) you can contact me at barbskidmore@earthlink.net.

Hello Barbara,

Keith Flinders here, as you will remember we met in October 1996 in Layton, UT.

Since that time I have done a lot more work on the Flinders lines, but cannot confirm the parentage of William who married Dinah Towl(e), nor indeed who her parents were.

I think it most unlikely that your William F. was the son of Richard FLINDERS and Mary nee CLARK. Their son William was born some time after your William. The age at death puts your William as being born 1724/25, However I stand to be corrected on this assumption of mine.

William's son Samuel you have recorded in much detail in your book, and I have been working on the histories of Samuel's brothers William, Richard and George. The history of other brother John eludes me.

I would be delighted to exchange data that will perhaps be new to yourself.

In 1999 I stayed with your David's niece Janet and husband Skip Flinders, and hear from them from time to time. Currently they will be busy doing their Mr & Mrs Santa Claus thing I expect.

Kind regards

Keith
