Hello! I am researching the Flora line in Nicholas County, KY and I can not get any farther than my husbands great grandfather.I am hoping maybe someone has some information that might point me in a different direction. I have been hitting a brick wall. I have traced his Flora line back to a Sanford Flora born 1831 or 1837 (I seem to have conflicting information.) He was listed in the 1850 Census as being in the Franklin B. Vemont household. My mother-in-law said she remembered hearing that as a story when she was a little girl but can't remember or never knew why he wasn't with his family. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time.

James Flora

I'm looking for information on James Flora, born in Virginia, possibly between 1782-1790 and moved to Adair County Kentucky where he had a wife named Barbara (also from Virginia) and they had several children including Charlotte Flora. Detailed history would be wonderful, but I'll be happy to get any info. Wonderfing if he might be a descendent of Thomas Flora, the prisoner transferred from London. There were several James Flora's born in his line and some of his descendants did relocate to Kentucky from what I understand.
Thanks so much!

I am wrting a family history of my Brubaker, Bailey, Fellows, Myer families. Most were among the first settlers to Indiana, some in 1808 to 1810. I have some evidence that Abraham and (Rev.) John Myer were the first to settle on farms that are now Flora, Indiana. Any early history regarding these families would be appreciated. All were of Old Order Dunkard and Church of the Brethren background.

Thanks, Don. I can't fit her into the family, because I don't have John A. Flora. The only JOhn I have is the one you gave me WAY back in 1997--before we were using the computer for the Flora work! He's the one who married Mariah Burchell. So who is John A.? If you don't mind, answer me at jb.dooley@verizon.net. I don't know your email address.

Barbara, good to be back in touch. My wife and I moved to Powell, TN (in northwest Knoxville) about three years ago. So we are still in the general vicinity.
Did some research on Anne Melissa Flora in my papers and found the following:

Anne Melissa Flora (1849-1933) was the oldest daughter of John A. and Emaline Flora. She was married twice: 1) David Pierce, 2) William Palmer. She had 4 children, all by David Pierce:
1) Claudius C. - he married and had 3 children.
2) Paul L.
3) Graver
4) Anne - she married George Oscar Cate and had 4 children, 2 boys & 2 girls. The girls married McNew brothers.

Anne Melissa died in Chattanooga. Her daughter Anne Piece Cate did also and I belived Anne Cate's descendants still live in Chattanooga although I haven't be able to contact any.
Hope this is helpful.

Don
I'm still in Cullowhee, although we're back and forth to Chattanooga often. No, I don't have contact with any Floras in Chattanooga. Wish I could say I did!
Barbara

I wonder if you've come across any information on the other children of James and Penelope, particularly the twin daughters Lucinda and Lucretia. Lucinda is in the 1850 and 1860 census, then disappears. One source cites her marrying Gabriel Ward in 1865. I'm looking everywhere for information on her, that marriage, and any children from it.
