My Grandfather was Frank G. Florentino (Fiorentino), one son of the above. (5-30-1897 - 4-15-1967) His siblings were Marie, Selene Elizabeth, Lucille, Louise Veronica, Leo, Salvatore Joseph and John Francis.

My Grandfather's uncles would be the brothers of Giuseppe - Gaetano Fiorentino, Salvatore Fiorentino and Luigi Fiorentino all from NY City

My Father was Francis G. Florentino (Frank G.'s oldest son) He passed a few years ago. I am his first born - Paula Jeanne Florentino.

According to a copy of their marriage certificate obtained in Sorrento, Italy about ten years ago, Guiseppe was from Piano de Sorrento ( a village close to Sorrento) and 'Lillian' Mosca was from Sorrento. He was 23 and she younger. They married in 1885.

My Father was John Scotto born to Anthony and Vicenza Scotto in Brooklyn NY 8/16/1917 on President Street. He had a brother Joseph and Sisters, Rose,Ann,Eleanor And Mary. Anthony his father was a Mercant Marine and then a Long Shorman. He was killed in an accident down at the Brooklyn Docks when my father John was 12 years old. I believe it may have happened in 1929. John then went to work at Knickerbocker Ice as an ice delivery boy to help surport his family.

I always understood that my Great-grandmother's last names was Florentino when in fact it is Fiorentino. Both my great-grandmother's last names are Fiorentino. Concetta and Giovanna. I am truly sorry for the misunderstanding. So a new search has begun. Concetta married a Raffaele Aiello and Giovanna married a Guiseppe Falvo. As far as I understand they are from Amato. If anyone has any info, please email me. Thank you and good luck on your family findings.

Re: Looking for Florentino from Amato,Italy.

I sent this email to someone else on the boards because they were researching the Fiorentino line. I am related to a Luigi Fiorentino (my maternal grandfather). Luigi came to America in 1887 at the age of 15 on the Iniziativa in the company of a family of Castellanos (his uncle/aunt/cousins?). He lived on Park Avenue, was in the produce business (though later worked for Edison Electric), and became a citizen in the late 1890's. He returned to Sant'Agnello Sorrento/Naples, Italy in 1905 to marry my grandmother, Theresa De Angelis Fiorentino. We are also related to a Concetta De Angelis Fiorentino (Zia Concetta), who was my grandmother Theresa's older sister. Concetta married Gaetano, Luigi Fiorentino's older brother. So, there were two brothers from the same town (Sant'Agnello/Sorrento/Naples) who married two sisters also from the town and they both eventually brought their wives here and started families in America. After marrying my grandmother, Luigi returned to America in April of 1905 with his new bride and his niece (his brother Gaetano's daughter?). My grandmother (Theresa) had two other sisters who emigrated to the US: Rosanella - married a Gargiullo and settled in Brooklyn/Staten Island/NYC (?) and Maria - married a Coppolla - lived in Yonkers. She had a brother, Christofero, who remained in Italy, and a sister who was a nun (Juditta, also in Italy). I know less about other siblings for Luigi - I think he may have had a brother Francesco in Italy (not sure about anyone else). He and Gaetano died early (1911-Gaetano and 1926-Luigi)and it's possible the family lost track. Luigi left a widow and 11 children. My mother was one of his daughters.

Anyway, let me know if you think we might share any relatives.

Thanks,
Maria
Hi I'm very intrigue with my father's family history. My uncle said their father from Camotes Island originaly. My grandfather's family, they were three brothers one went to Mindanao(which is my grandfather) one went to Iocos and one stayed in Cebu. My query is,would it be possible that all Florentinos from Luzon Visayas and Mindanao are related or not? My uncle said that he met the Florentinos in Camotes and they said that they're our relatives. My grandfather's name was Arquilao Florentino and my father's name was Honorato Florentino.

I have been told by someone who has done research on this subject, that the Island was given to a physician named Procida, by a pope in the 12th Century, in gratitude for healing the pope. This was the earliest record of the name Procida. There was a castle built upon the Island and it was passed down through the family until the Italian government bought it and turned it into a prison. That seems to verify what you have heard.

Pat

Florentino Family President St Bklyn, NY

My father's father & mother imigrated from Procida about the turn of the century and rented rooms on Carroll St in South Brooklyn. Eventually they occupied the old rectory building next to Sacred Heart Church on President & Van Brunt Streets. A cousin John Scotto, another Procidan immigrant, lived with them for many years. My Uncle Joe Florentino acted as the church sexton & his sisters, my Aunts Daisy & Clem decorated the church and were the choir. John Scotto never married. Michele & Letitia Florentino had 6 children. Gaetano, my father had only one child, Carmine had four, Felix had three. Daisy & Clem never married and Joe who married late in life became a widower after only a few years. He had no children. I strongly suspect that your Scotto/Florentino family is the same as mine.

I also doubt that we are related, I do not know anyone of the names you mentioned in you e-mail to me on 11/26/00.
It does not really matter if the blood lineage is not within the very near generations, but I think, that there is a chance that the name is only one that has been spreaded in several continents by the original Florentino from Europe.
I also wish you and your family Happy Holydays.

Dear Antonio Florentino:
As some name background check that was done for me during the last several weeks, I came to know that there was an Italian General named Piero(Pedro)Florentino. This ifo interested me, since there was another? General Pedro Florentino during the Restauration war during the 1800's in the Dominican Republic. I wonder if thre was a military tradition amongst these family members, Still now a days, there are many high ranking officers in the Dominican Army who share the name Florentino, including a recent past Chief of Staff of that country Armed Forces. any comments?
