Dear Laurence,
My name is Veronica Florio & I am one of Otto's daughters. There are actually 3 of us - I am the youngest. I was born when my father was 56 & my mother was 35 - I have a sister Donna who lives in VA & also has a house in Naugatuck. I moved to Morris which is as close to Warren as I could get! I love the area because my father used to take us to visit Oirolf & Toady in Warren. I can't believe that I have relatives in Torrington! Please let me know who they are or give them my info so we can be in contact.
My oldest sister Helen has ALZ & has been in a nursing home for quite some time. She had early onset at the age of 54 which makes me terrified since I look just like her & my Dad who also had it. I have the FLorio Roman nose. My sister Donna looks like my mother.
I am so excited to have found you!
I will be in touch again & will let my sister donna know I found you!
Hi Cousin!
Veronica

Dear Roger,
I am Otto FLorio's daughter. He was Oirolf's brother.
I still live in CT - in Morris in fact because when I was a kid my Dad used to take us up to Oirolf & Toady's & I always wanted to live in the area as we lived in Naugatuck. I was born when Otto was 56 & my mother Helen was 35. There was a big age difference so I have sisters that are much older than I. I would love to know all the brothers names - I only know of Otto, Oirolf, Felix & Floris. Still cracks me up they ran out of names & spelled Florio backwards for his first name. I loved him so much. I used to go out & plat in the woods with their dog Tammy. I think going to his house was where I deleloped my love of CT. My sister Donna is almost 60 & my sister Helen unfortunately is in a home - she had early onset ALZ starting at the age of 54 - which means I am terrified that I will be next. My dad had it & I look just like him & my sister Helen. My sister Donna looks like my mother & doesn't have the roman FLorio nose.
I am going to let her know that I found you & would love to know where any of the other FLorio's related to us are.
Thank you for your time & I am so excited to know that you exist!
Veronica

Dear Julie,

I can't believe I have found you! My name is Veronica Florio & Oirolf was my uncle! My Dad was his brother Otto. I was born when my father was 56 & my mother was 35 so I only knew Oirolf when I was a kid he was married to Toady. My Dad would take us up to Warren (from where we lived in Naugatuck) to visit & since there was no one of my age to visit with (my sisters are 8 & 12 years older than I am)I am 54 now), I would go out in the woods with Tammy their dog & sit & watch the chipmunks. I still find it funny to this day that they spelled FLorio backwards to make his first name. I have not yet really joined Ancestry yet so I will try to set aside some time to do so & then try to find some other relatives. I am so excited to have found you. I will tell my Sister Donna that I found this -unfortunately my oldest sister Helen has ALZ & is in a nursing home. It was early onset at the age of 54, so I totally freaked out & pray every day that it doesn't happen to me as it did to my Dad too (I look just like my father & my sister Helen - we have the FLorio roman NOSE.)
I have always wondered what happened to Felix, Floris etc & did not even know that Oirolf had kids.
Please reply - I just called my sister Donna to tell her that I found you & she is so excited!
Thank you & I guess that makes us some kind of cousins!
Veronica
I'm not sure of the timing, but I may be related to your husband.

My great grandmother was Anna Liberti (nee Florio). She was born in Padula, Salerno in 1890. Her father was Vncenzo Florio born 1866. I had heard a story that my great great grandmother was working on a farm in Italy when she was killed when a donkey kicked her.

Vincenzo came to the US and settled in Brooklyn with Anna and her sister Giovanna in 1905 and later remarried and had three sons - Michael, Frank and Joseph.

If any of this sounds amiliar, please respond.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Cynthia,

I'm Alaine. My father-in-law was Art Florio. He died in 1970 and I never met him or his brother, Duke, who died in 1983. Adeline died in 1999.

If I'm doing this correctly in my head, you're my daughter's second cousin. Nice to have you in the family. The Florio name is pretty much disappearing on our side. Art had one son, but only granddaughters, and Duke had four daughters.

You should be able to access the message boards, whether or not you have a membership to ancestry. You also can write to me at alaine@nepagnealogy.com. I've been sick for a bit and not always good at checking boards, but I'm usually around somewhere. Also, what little census records and such that I've found for the family are online at rootsweb - http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d... The public file doesn't include information on anyone who wasn't old enough to appear in the 1930 census, so let me know if you'd like the "family" version.

I have a newspaper subscription at genealogybank and did a quick search for your Uncle Chris' obit, but no luck. I'll have to putter a bit and see what I can come up with. I did find him in the SSDI, I believe. Thank you. My father-in-law died at such a relatively young age, I don't know that I would have connected this Angelo to him.

ANGELO C FLORIO 15 Aug 1907 08 Mar 2008 (V) 32157 (Lake Como, Putnam, FL) (none specified) 233-05-3828	West Virginia

Thanks for leaving a message for me.

Alaine

Hi Moyses,

I think we might be related. My name is Noelia Berman Aronis. I understand there are just a few Aronis in the world so we might be related. My mother has told me that she believes that her family went through Greece and Rumania. I think she mentioned they also got into Russia.
If interested, please send me an email to noeliaberman@yahoo.com.ar
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina (the whole family lives over there) but live in the caribbean. My mother's father was named Benjamin Aronis.
If you send me some data, I can definitely check that with my mother (sorry, but she is not good with technology).
Thanks!

Noelia

It was very common for the Italian wives to be listed with their maiden name. Once she was a naturalized American citizen, she might be listed with her married name.

From the ship records alone, it indicates that his brothers were Matteo, Nicola and Giuseppe.

It looks like his first trip over to the USA was in 26 Jan 1903
http://tinyurl.com/dl3yr2

Listed as Fedele Florio on the "Phoenicia". He would be joining his brother Matteo at #34 E 7th St., New York
The Williamburg Pa address was for the passenger above him.

Second trip: 15 Jun 1906
http://tinyurl.com/c5wj4r
Listed as Fedele Florio, on the ship "Cretic"
Record indicates that he would be joining his brother Giuseppe at 528 W. 79 St., New York.
Record also indicates that he was in the USA from 1903 to 1905 (see column 15)

Third trip: 24 Jan 1913
http://tinyurl.com/cyzu8u
Listed as Fedele Horis on the "Cincinnati". This is a two page manifest. It indicates that he would be joining his brother Nicola at 447 W. 40th St., New York. This record also indicates that he was in the USA from 1906 to 1909

Fourth trip: 23 Apr 1922
http://tinyurl.com/dekx6e
Listed as Fedele Florio on the "Arabic". This is a one page manifest. It indicates that he was a Naturalized US citizen on the 26 April 1921, Bronx, New York. There is an address there, but it's too blurry to read...

BUT... the exact ship record from the Ellis Island site shows a better image.... the address is 515-135th St., Bronx, New York. Take a look...
http://tinyurl.com/d8recp

He was also listed here - name crossed off
http://tinyurl.com/cc69bh but then recorded on the record I listed above.

There is a passport record on Ancestry which includes his photograph and a signature. Have you seen that one?
thank you so much for your help. If they were traveling as a family on the Cinncinati, why was she listed with her maiden name? They were married and had their 3 children with them.

On the other passenger list of the Phoeniecian, I only see Fedele listed as a passenger. It looks like he is going to see Matteo who lives in Williamsburg, Pennsylvania. But I see no mention of Guiseppe.

Thanks
Steve

FLORIO Basilio and Pancrazio

My name is Calle Affagato.I have just started digging into my family's past and discovered that my great grandmother Annuziata Florio, came to America with her nephews(?) Basilio and Pancrazio Florio, who were both 18. They were all listing contact with her husband Sperauntino DiCarlo (I'm not sure of the spelling on the first name as he mostly went by S or Sam). The family lived and still does like near New Castle, PA.
No one in my family had any knowledge of the boys before this. I did find a Basilio of about the right age who passed away in 1990. I'm just looking for more information. Thanks in advance!

My dad's name was Salvatore Florio and he migrated to NYC in 1911 according to records. Born in Sicily, Messina area, maybe Patti, Castiglione. He did have brothers/sisters, but I don't know their names. Both my natural parents died b4 I turned 14. I have no other family to ask. Any info/suggestions would mean everything. my info is chanel-1@comcast.net. lovingly sent, chanel (florio)

I would very much like to connect with you and share information. My cousin and I have about 5 generations charted. Perhaps we are all cousins! Please contact me at BevNoland@Bellsouth.net.
Hi Joanne,
We're going to miss you and your family! Please contact me at BevNoland@cs.com. I printed my first draft of my research and it is 108 pages. I am using family Tree Maker. The photo section will be another 20 or 30 pages! I am taking it to the Family Gathering so everyone can look, edit, add, what ever before I figure out a final printing of "volume one." E-mail me direct with your phone number and I'll call with the details and other info.

Missed you - we had quite a group this year and this was the first time in 4 years that we didn't get rained on (flooded), forest fires were not a threat or the drought prevented an evening campfire. We have found a new family name while searching the Passenger Ship Manifests. Seems my great-uncle had 3 cousins traveling with him! Two were Cozzi and the third was DiMartino and all were from Furore. Do you recognize either name??? Hope all is well with you & yours. Please keep in touch!

My husband's Great Grandfather was Alfonso Florio (b. 7 Feb 1877, Furore, Naples, Campania, Italy; d. 14 Feb 1962, Bronx, NY).

Dominic,
I think there is a distinct possibility that we are cousins. My great-grandparents are from Salerno, Amalfi and Furore. There are at least three different Florio families in my family tree. Do you know who your grandparents brothers and sisters were? I think Salvatore Florio may have been a brother, or at least a cousin, to my great-grandfather Gaetano Florio (from Furore) or great-grandmother Adelaide (Florio) Florio (from Salerno). I know of only one of my my great-grandmother's siblings and he was Pasquale Florio. Pasquale's wife, Trefomena Merola Florio's mother was Mary (Maria) Florio from Furore. They arrived from Italy between about 1888 and 1928 settling first in Manhattan and later moving to the Bronx and Alpine, NJ.
I am eager to hear from you. If you will give me your phone number, I will call you.
Your cousin, perhaps!
Beverly Florio Noland

Hey Cousin, Frank,
Sorry you missed the annual family reunion. Don't know how you got the dates mixed up. I sent you copies of several emails I had sent to you giving you the correct dates. I wouldn't have given you the wrong dates because I had reserved and paid for your cabin and I am the one who is out the $80. This year the reunion is July 28, 29, 30 and August 1st at the Round Pond Recreation Area at USMA West Point. If you will verify your USPS address I will send you a family address booklet with street and email addresses and phone numbers. I received and posted to our family web site the photos you sent. Do you have any ideas as to who those people are/were? Only one had a name on it and I recognized only one other person. Tuesday is Lori's wedding anniversary. Hope she is doing well. Danielle's husband has been deployed to Iraq on an 18 month tour! Long time but not nearly as long as Korea & WWII deployments but - still a long time! Hope all is well with you and "Freckles."
Your cousin,
Beverly
