In a group picture that included my dad and 5 friends, my dad listed the man in the first row on the right as Raymond Fogarty. The picture was probably taken in Colorado Springs, Colorado, during training. I'm attaching a copy of the picture.

It was stated as Andrew on the baptism of mary some years later but there never was an Andrew GOLDER. BUT there is a very close connection with another fellow called Mathew GOLDER who was in the same part of the colony at the same time. He is the likeliest culprit as he was a marine and a bit of a scoundrel. If you would like to know more give me an email
Regards
BRUNTON

The marriage of Edward & Mary is listed on family search. April - June qtr 1884 at Parsonstown registration district. Volume 3 page 387 Contact GRO in Ireland and purchase the official marriage certificate.
I got this information on my grandmother recently from the pastor in Birr and I'll be in Ireland in April.

"I have checked through our records and have indeed found a record for Sophia Anne Forbes. She was baptised on 25th October 1885. Her parents were Edward Forbes and mother was Mary Fogarty. It would appear she had at least one brother, Edward Alexander who was baptised on 18th November 1888.

It looks like the father, Edward was a staff sergeant with the Leinster Regiment. That was a regiment of the British Army based in a village called Crinkill (Crinkle) just outside Birr. You may like to try the British Army Archive centre based in Kew Gardens in London as they apparently have great records and you might uncover something there.

It also looks like Edward Forbes was a convert and was baptised in this church on the 14th June 1884. I don’t have an age for him. He probably did this shortly before he married Mary Fogarty so I would guess they got married in the later part of 1884. I have no record of their marriage here.

I have looked for Mary Fogarty records and have found one that may be appropriate. She was baptised on 6th August 1851 to John Fogarty and Margaret Carroll.

You should get the marriage certificate for John & Bridget.
That will give you a wealth of information as to where they were born, their parents names & fathers occupations etc
A quick glance at Vic bdm shows they had a number of children in the Costerfield & Heathcote area. Dorothy Catherine was born in 1906 Reg No 3754
Ellen 1903 Reg 17303
they were married in 1890 but there seems some mix up in the registration as the Reg No is 1891/907
Annie Elizabeth 1890, John Patrick 1893
William Michael 1895, Mary Margaret 1897,
Helena Bridget 1899 died 1899
Sarah Theresa 1900
Regards
Brenda

You need to first look at data from the country he migrated to.
Tipperary county is divided into North & South. Virtually no church records online at the moment.
If you would like to email me direct I'll help you with ideas where to look.
It was only last year that I found my Fogarty family in Kilkenny after nearly 30 years of searching.
Regards
Brenda brendapilson@yahoo.com.au

I am interested in the above named individual, who is reported to have died in a skirmish with confederate forces in 1864. My great-grandfather, Pat Fogerty of Greensburg, PA, received a letter from the War Dept. in the 1930's regarding this individual. He is believed to be the brother of my great great-grandfather, Martin Fogerty (Pat's father), also of Greensburg. While Pat and family used the E spelling (Fogerty), it appears that in the 1850's, both spellings were used.

I was just surprised that you and your sister and Cynthia weren't mentioned in the death notice because your mother was listed as his wife. Anyway, if you would like to send me your email address we could discuss the Fogartys further.
As I said before, my grandfather Lawrence was Edward's brother and your father's uncle. I live in Euclid and have been to Calvary to view the Edward/Bridget Fogarty plot.
Let me know if you want to talk further.
Nancy

Hi Deb,
In regards to the Whalen contact, your grandfather Edward's mother's name was Anastasia Whalen. Anastasia and Thomas Fogarty were married 11/27/1847 in St. Stephen's Church, Port Carbon PA. In the 1850 Census Thomas is listed as 26 and Anna as 19, so if this is true, that would put Thomas' date of birth abt. 1824 and Anna around 1831.
I did find Margaret Fogarty's death info, she died 12/11/1939.
It is interesting that Cynthia, Linda and you are named in Thomas' death notice, but your mother is.
Nancy

Hi Deborah,
I just got your message and am surprised by the info. Thomas Edward Fogarty was my grandfather's nephew, son of his brother Edward. What I thought I knew was that Thomas was married to Margaret Yelverton and they had 8 children:Helen, Edith,Catherine, Bernice, Elizabeth, Ann, Patrick and Marian.
I didn't know he had married a second time. However, in checking his death notice online I see that his wife is listed as Sarah and there are two additional names listed as his children, Peter J. and ? Dalton. There is no mention of Margaret. Did she die before he married Sarah or were they divorced? What were the names of Thomas and Sarah's children? Please let me know what you know and I will get my info to you. Thanks
Nancy

Thomas Fogarty husband of Anastasia (Anna) Whalen is my great great grandfather. My grandmother Elizabeth Fogarty Berry told me he was raised by the bishop of Dublin, but I never could substantiate that. He lived in Mahoney City. I originally had his birth as 1826, but according to the death certificate, I believe it was 1836. I have him buried at Calvery Cemetery in Cleveland Ohio. I believe there are still relatives in Tipperary Town in Tipperary County Ireland. I have unsubstantiated information that his father was Edmund Mackey and mother Ellen, so I don't know where the name Fogarty came from except maybe the bishop. All I have on Anna Whalen is an unsubstantiated birth of 1830 and death of 1900 and that she lived in Mahoney City, PA. If you have any other information I'd appreciate hearing from you.
Kathy

Deborah,

I don't have a lot of information on my Fogarty ancestors. The only thing I know as of now is that my great grandmother, Margaret Fogarty was married to Thomas Flynn in 1878, Jersey City, NJ. Margaret had a sister, Maria or Mary, who was living with her in 1880. The name Wil Whelon/Whelen appears as a on one of their family documents. I do not know if he is a relative or if he was a good friend. All of my relatives lived in Jersey City/Hoboken, NJ.

Lorraine

Hi Jeanette
Wow thank you for replying, Bridget is my grandmother and she had 8 children one of which is my father Gerrard, I've got the names of the rest of the children and I think her and Ellen married on the same day at St Sylvesters Church in Liverpool, do you know any more about Jane and Phillip ? which part of tipperary they came from, I found the church they were married in, demolished now on the dock road close to where they lived in Dublin St, I have the deeds to the family grave which Philip and jane plus children and my grandmother are buried, the first one was Joanna in 1896 followed closely by Lily 12 Months 1898 Philip 1898 and Josephine 1899 6 weeks,! poor Jane to lose 3 children and husband within 4 years must have been heartbreaking.
I would love to compare what we have on the family I think I'm the only one who is doing the family tree so far but it kind of takes over your life so I tend to pick it up get very involved then put it down again for a while so you reply has me up and running again so thank you I look forward to hearing from you. my email addressis cathythomson@fsmail.net Best Wishes Cathy
