I am researching the Foreman's in Louisiana who have Native American ancestors. My Grandfather is John W. Foreman and he was married to a Ann Marie and they have kids who live in New Iberia and Baton Rouge . He died in Houma, LA. It is stated that his first wife is Cherokee...Mary Ozier Sanders ( Died in St. Martinsville, LA.) We were hoping to track down both family and their history connected to Native American. As far as I know the family may still live in Houma, LA or the surrounding areas. Was wondering if maybe you might have seen any information regarding these names. Thank you in advance if you can help.
Sincerely,
Thelma Webb ( Granddaughter of John Foreman!)

Hi, I'm still checking in from time to time hoping to find a connection. My Foremans are mainly from Blackwater, VA and New Jersey. We're also related to the Humphreys and Etheridges there. If this sounds familiar to anyone feel free to reply. Thanks, Yvonne
I would love to see what info you have since I have got to a stopping point in VA. Seems like it turns to nothing from there .....Sure would love to hear from you so we can compare notes....

Angie

Hi I saw your post re your ancestor/s John H Foreman/ Isaac W Foreman. I have verified source information including the marriage bond of their father (who was one of 11 children but who died circa 1856)& also of their grandparents. I am not sure your 2009 email address is still current so I am sending out this reply. I have been researching this "lost line" of Formans for some time now, as my ancestor is an uncle to above two brothers, my ancestor being one of the many brothers of the father of your John H and Isaac W (who married Williams sisters I believe).
I am looking for info on William and Susan Foremen (Foreman). They had a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, born 5 Jan 1832 and died 18 Jan 1855. Mary Elizabeth married a Archerd, Mary Elizabeth Archerd. I was at the family cemetery and took pictures of all the tombstones. I do not know the relation of the Foremen's to the Robinetts. Mary Elizabeth Foremen Archerd died in Polk County, Texas. I believe the family is from Louisiana.

Diane Rhine

Re: Lily Foreman and her father George 'James' Foreman

Ok, based on the information you have given me I thought I would do some nosing around.......it couldn't have been more complicated!!!
I managed to find Elizabeth on both the 1911 and 1901 census as you said I would, but seemed to open a can of worms when delving further.
It turns out that Elizabeth Gaze was infact born Elizabeth Martin, and only became Gaze when she married in 1871. I have to presume that the reason for George and her not marrying could have been down to the fact that they were both previously married??
She had a sister called Emily, who I havn't fully searched yet, and her mother was indeed Esther Thurston. She married 3 times over her lifetime, firstly to James Laws Martin in 1849 - Emily and Elizabeths father. Then to James Godbolt in 1865 who's 2 children she cared for. And then lastly to Thomas Neach Turrell in 1872. I have attached all the documents to my tree so if you take a look can see the tangled web they weaved!!
Do you happen to know when Elizabeth died as on my travels I came across a paper article requesting that any children of Mrs Elizabeth Gaze contact a solicitor in Great Yarmouth. The publication date was 21 March 1943.
Sadly I do not know why George has a different address to Harriets. It could have been down to him being ill and she stayed with Relatives, or maybe they had split up? It could be that she moved to another address after his death and that is the address she wrote down once the paperwork was complete.
Unfortunately I don't know where he is buried, but Kings Norton is in Birmingham. Living the other side of Banbury means I am not too far away from Birmingham, so investigating this further wouldn't be too hard. I have done some grave research for my husbands mothers side of the family, and yes, just contacted the Council who were very helpful. I plan to order his birth certificate aswell as his first marriage certificate so that may tell us more :)
I did have a look into the Bullen side and uncovered a little information, but with George's Grandfather being from Scotland, you end up hitting the same problem with uncovering records. Any information would be greatly appreciated though, and I shall forward you my email address :)
The only thing I wanted to ask was what information you have about your Grandfather and his siblings as I don't have much information about them. I can trace a few to 1901, but until you gave me the info about Elizabeth on the 1911 census that is where I come unstuck.

Kind regards

Thanks for replying so quickly and for access to your information. I have been looking for information on George James Foreman for some years, as I lost him in the 1890s. I thought something had happened to him as Elizabeth returned to her mother in Yarmouth and is in 1901 census with mother Hester/Esther Thurston in Yarmouth but is recorded as Gage. In 1911 census Elizabeth is recorded as living with her mother in Yarmouth and with her son George in Sheffield. She died 16 September 1912. I was upset at the thought that she abandoned her children and returned to her mother, so I was glad to see she might have been with them in Sheffield in 1911. I have a copy of her death certificate and have found her grave in Great Yarmouth. She is buried with her mother and sister and after a lot of searching and a couple of visits there I found the grave, much overgrown. Attached is a photo of the grave. Whilst walking through the main graveyard at Gt Yarmouth there is a headstone only a few yards from the main path, and the only one left for a large area for John Foreman and his wife Mary, nee Sutton. They are the parents of James Thomas Foreman and I will try to update my tree so you can add them to yours. I use Family Tree Maker and have not put all my details on Ancestry. I took a photo of the gravestone but have just looked on my computer and cannot find it, although I have got a hard copy in with my other papers. It would be the great grandfather of George James Foreman, who is my great grandfather. So if George James Foreman was your great grandfather it makes him the same descendant to us both. Except that I now found I should not have been a Foreman as Elizabeth was not married so the children were illegitimate. I have been looking for details of his death for years but was looking for a death around Liverpool or Norfolk. I also could not find them on the 1891 census because the surname was misspelt but a friend found it for me, and when you looked at the 1891 census he was notified by Amazon of your interest. From your records I then found out that he must have left Elizabeth and married, even though his first wife was still alive as I found her living with her daughter in 1901. Thanks for the information that they went to Canada. George's death certificate records a different address from his widow, do you know why? Do you know where he is buried? For Great Yarmouth I contacted the local authority and also visited the Norfolk Records Office in Norwich, but would not know where to start for Kings Norton. You have certainly done a lot of work. When I got stuck I went sideways and found some details on the Bullen family, and I have it in report style. If you would like any of it send me your email address.

Thank you.

Re: Lily Foreman and her father George 'James' Foreman

Hi,
I have just seen your reply to my message regarding George Foreman :)
I do now know a lot more about George and his family but still have lots of unanswered questions which maybe you could fill me in on??
George is my husbands Great Grandfather and we knew very little about him until recently. I have been piecing bits of information together based on the little facts we did have - Lewis' birth certificate.
George's last wife, Harriet Elizabeth Rogers, who he married in 1896 is the mother of Lewis and Lily Foreman, the last two children, as far as we know, George had. He died in 1910 when Lewis was 7 and Lily was 4. By all accounts they didn't have a great childhood after George's death, as Harriet turned to drink and got involved with another man who was not very nice - all of this is second hand info from a distant member of the Rogers family so I cannot verify this, but it would seem to make sense given the way he was.
Sadly Lewis never really knew his father and never spoke about his family at all as an adult. We never knew a thing about him having a sister until I found a census record with her on. I am still desperately trying to track down Lily, she apparently went to live with an Aunt and then her cousin and his wife. So far I have had no joy, but I'm forever hopeful :)
As far as George goes I know he was born in 1844 Gorleston, Suffolk. His father George Thomas Foreman was a Boat Builder who died at 29 leaving his wife Eliza Bullen to bring up George and his sister Elizabeth. Both of the children lived with Eliza's family and by 1861 he was an Apprentice Painter.
- Elizabeth Foreman lived with her Grandmother until she died and she married a Richard Clarke, who was quite a lot older than her, in 1882. He had children from his previous marriage and they had never had any children together. She died in 1916 -
In 1865 George married Harriet Eliza Swan Boulton, and his daughter Harriet Elizabeth Boulton Foreman was born. By 1871 he was a Plumber and in 1872 his first son Alfred Samuel Foreman was born.
- Harriet E B Foreman ended up in London and in 1890 married a Henry Archbold. They had 5 daughters in all and left for Canada in 1907 along with their Mother Harriet Boulton. So far I have tracked them to 1916, but unfortunately can track them no farther. I have tried looking for deaths for both Harriets and Henry and I have possibly found them but its proving rather difficult to confirm.
- Alfred also ended up in London and married a Jane (Skinner, I believe). He also went to Canada, in 1906, and so far I can track him to 1918. I can find no evidence of him having any children and cannot yet find a death for him or Jane.
Between 1871 and 1881 I knew that George senior was in Newark, America and Glasgow, Scotland. I managed to find a Baptism record for Elizabeth in New Jersey and could track her to 1891. I knew George junior was born in Glasgow and could track him to 1901. By this point I knew that George had gone on to have 9 children with Elizabeth (Gaze) after he left Harriet Boulton. I had been unable to find out who Elizabeth was as no matter how hard I looked I couldn't find a marriage for George and Elizabeth, and still can't. Did they marry, and if so was it here or in America?
I have Elizabeth dying in 1901 but by this point George had already got married to Harriet Rogers, 1896, and moved to Birmingham. I had only been able to track down a few of the 9 children up to 1901 and had begun to look into this further as some of the 1911 census became available :)
I have also started looking into other members of George's family. So far I have turned up 2 Aunts - Elizabeth and Harriet. Elizabeth didn't marry and I'm yet to look further into Harriet.
And 2 Uncles - James Ridley and John Alfred. I think there may have been another Uncle who died either at birth or not long after. I need to confirm this though!
John married Miriam Massingham in 1867 and had 1 daughter Bessie. Bessie never married and had no children.
James Ridley married Martha Jane Nuthall and had 5 children - Ellen Jane, Katie Elizabeth, Charles Nuthall, Alice Phillis and Jane Lucy. Ellen, Alice and Jane never married and I'm still trying to trace Katie. Charles became a Solicitor and married Frances Ann Large. They went on to have 3 children - Cecil Ridley, Marjorie Ellen and Freda Katherine. The girls both married and so far I can find them having 1 son each. Cecil ended up in Canada, arriving in 1904. I can track him back and forth over the border and have managed to contact a relative of his wife's. He died in 1951 and I found a death certificate for him. So far I have no evidence that he and his wife Lulu had any children. Up until recently I have been trying to research Cecil - it turned out that he was possibly sent to Canada as one of the many 'Home Children' with a group of other children. But I am still looking into this :)
I can send you an invite to our family tree which would probably make more sense, it all starts to get a little rambly after a while :) But any information you have which could confirm any of what I have pieced together would be amazing.
My Father in Law has no connection to his paternal side at all, as the only Foreman he has ever known was his father. I made it my mission to try and gleam some information for him, perhaps even some relatives. So some light shed on the Foreman side of the family would be fabulous, and any pictures you may have would be even better.
Thank you so much for responding, you may have possibly made my year! I have been going back and forth with all of this for the quite some time and have at times even thought about giving up, as it had got so hard to find anything.
Messages like this make it so worthwhile :)

Kindest regards

I have just seen your message. You may by now have found out more about George James Foreman. He was born in Gorleston, Suffolk, in 1844 and was married in 1865 to Harriet Eliza Swan Boulton, with whom he had 2 children. He then went to America with Elizabeth Gaze and on return lived in Glasgow and Liverpool. They had 9 children, one of which was my grandfather. I had guessed that they did not marry but only recently found out that he had married in 1896. I have more information on the Foreman side in Great Yarmouth if you would like it.
Jean Booker (nee Foreman)

Hi,
Do any of you know what identy thieft is?

A Coat of Arms is given by royality to a paticular person for an action. Some maybe used by the direct descendants of that person, other awards may not be. A Scotish COA may only be used by the Clan head, where the crest may be worn by members of the Clan.

As some of you may know, if you've been researching for a while, not everyone with the same last name is related.. period.

Some COAs are part of the land ownership, and not transferable....

So unless you know what type of Crest/ COA your using and you also know your a direct descendant of the person the COA/crest was awarded to YOUR STEAING THE IDENTY OF ANOTHER PERSON.

There is NO such thing as a Surname COA/Crest.
Each country has thier own College of Arms, You should check out the appropate College of Arms. If you can prove your descended from the person awarded a COA/crest and that COA/Crest is the type that can be inherited by all members of a family then by all means use it.. if not... your commeting identy thieft..

Nelda
