Are there any Forrest relatives in Australia? My Father was Murry Alfred Forrest. His father was Albert who had a brother Joseph. Albert died at Goolwa South Australia after an accident on the wharf whilst loading produce onto a boat. Our family lived at Yankalilla S A. I know there are relatives at Strathalbyn S A too.

I am looking for anyone researching FORRESTs in Lanarkshire or Midlothian that might have knowledge of a (Grandfather) Longcase clock crafted by William Hislop of Biggar in the mid 1800's. The case may have been supplied by Andrew Robertson, a local man from Biggar, who made longcase clock cases for the trade. A 50 year old oral history related to my parents by my grandparents indicates that a pair of these clocks were given as gifts within the family some time before my grandparents emmigrated to Canada in 1912.

A digital picture of our clock is available for comparison if you think you might have a link.

They had son Laurence born in 1842 in Wandell & Lammington. They also had Jean, Janet, Elizabeth, Agnes, John and Margaret. Laurence married Grace Paton born Carluke 1842. They had children Jessie Wightman, James, Mary Ann, Margaret, John, Thomas and Grace. Could be more I am not sure. Mary married a Reid, Margaret married John Mowbray Crawford and Grace married Hugh Lammie. I think they mostly lived in the Carluke area.

I am looking for any information on my great-great-grandfather. He didn't talk much about his family. He was born in Ohio in 1826 to an Edwin F Forrest. Bird Forrest was named William Birdie Forrest and he lived in war Eagle Arkansas in 1880, but then his entire family disappears from all records as I can find them. I am looking for any living relatives. There was some indication that Fred went on to California. The mother's name is Margrett A. Forrest (1848 in Arkansas) and the children are Birdie 1826 (ohio) and Daisey and Fredrick. There was probably also a fennimore forrest. Help if you can please.

Our Forrest surname has changed over time. Has anyone else seen these particular spellings in their research? My ggggrandfather, David Forst B 18 May 1833, his son Joseph F. Forest B 04 May 1861 in Iowa. My grandfather Harmon Ellsworth Forrest B 01 Nov 1887 in Iowa. Family legend states that the name Forst was changed when another individual living in the same town was hung for the crime of being a horse thief. Evidently David Forst didn't want people to think he was related and changed the spelling. We currently have family members that spell our surname with one R and others whom spell it with two R's. Advice, information etc...all received kindly. Thank you

They lived in Ozark County, MO and had a number of relatives in Missouri and Oklahoma. There were some rumors of being related to Nathan Bedford Forrest but have been unable to confirm. There is a Forrest Family reunion held annually in Oklahoma.

Looking for info on near Civil War veteran George W. Forrest, probably from York County, Pennsylvania. On November 19, 1862, he volunteered to enlist with the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry but two days later deserted and never served. I have no other data other than his name on a muster sheet.

ANDREW FORREST - mining acident at Ashgill LARKHALL

Found the following on http://www.mining-villages.co.uk/293.html

30 June 1874
LARKHALL – Serious Explosion of Fire damp – A serious explosion of fire damp took place on Tuesday last, at No 3 Pit, Ashgill Colliery, wrought by Mr And. Spencer.
John Finlayson, who was fireman in the main coal seam, having observed indications of the presence of foul air at a place where a few stoops had been taken out, it was thought proper to put in a length of bratticing.
One account of the men being, Finlayson got ANDREW FORREST, who works an engine underground, to assist him. It appeared that when the two men got the work finished, the air forced into the waste caused the fire-damp to come on to the return airway, overtaking both Forrest and Finlayson before they could escape beyond the reach of danger, and produced an alarming explosion.
Forrest was killed instantaneously, and Finlayson had his leg broken in two places, and was seriously burned about the face and arms. Forrest was a young unmarried man, about twenty-two years of age. [Hamilton Advertiser 4 July 1874]

Thomas Forrest, Surgeon, Galston. died 1848

I am tracing my Forrest ancestors and have become completely stuck with my great-great grandfather - a Thomas Forrest born circa 1814 - died 1848 buried in Loudoun cemetary , Ayrshire - no other Forrests in the cemetary so he wasn't local. He married a Jessie/Janet Wardrop and had 4 children - Robert Wardrop Forrest (1840), Jane Nisbet Forrest (c1843), William Forrest (c1846) and Margaret Forrest (c1848). I can't find a Birth/marriage,or death record online for Thomas Forrest - other than a Thomas Forrest born to Sir James Forrest of Comiston (baronet) -Lord provost of Edinburgh and a Charlotte Horsburgh - Anyone know what became of this Thomas Forrest, or if he is one and the same person.

Immigration and marriage records?

Looking for my info on my grandmothers family.
Her mother was Hilda Forrest m Samuel Forrest in 1910 (Thompson before marriage) From the info we have, Hilda Forrests parents were from London England. Her mother was Hilda Lancum, born around 1880. Her father was Leonard Thompson. Leonard was a royal guard around the time of the Queen Victorias Golden Jubilee. He was later sent to a penal colony in Australia for about 5 yrs. I have, to this point, been unable to find any info of any kind on them. We are uncertain if they immigrated as a family from England, or if the children were born in Canada.
Any info or directions on where to search would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Looking for connections. Ancestors or Descendants. May have had 4 children James 1787, William 1791, Agnes 1792, and Robert 1798.

I offer this tongue in cheek:

6 people of the 4751 souls estimated in Lanarkshire statistical account of 1791 -- 1799 should not constitute a needle in a haystack. There has to be someone beside me looking at or for these people. I look forward to hearing from any or all of you. LOL

Cheers,
Gord
A list of ships sailing from Southampton to Canada in 1912.

SPECIFICALLY for those searching for Forrest, this list below of 11 ships will be of little or no help.

There may be one Forrest family listed in item 8 (Ausonia July of 1912.) There are 25 images related to this ship's passenger list and over 900 line items to review. Some of the images are of poor quality. I suspect that to confirm any entry one would want a researcher with access to the physical archive to check the national archive in Ottawa.

I also believe there may be one Forrest entry listed in the Passenger's list for item 11 The Ultonia. Again the image is very hard to read digitally.

here is the web add'y:

English - www.collectionscanada.ca/index-e.html
follow the links to passenger lists.

A number of folks travelling to the USA via Canada. This could be worth a look just not for Forrest.

Hope this helps someone or saves some level of frustration.

Happy New Year!

Ship Port and Date (yyyy/mm/dd)
1.
Forrest Family

Hi,Owen: we may have talked before. My g grandfather's name was Thomas Forrest he was born Dec 10, 1823 in County Waterford, Ireland near the Cork Border. He and his family moved to Staleybridge, Cheshire, and Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire in the early 1830s. His oldest brother was Edward and he had another brother Patrick. He also had a sister Margaret and a daughter born in Ashton-U-Lyne. Several of Thomas' children were born in Ashton between 1850-1863. In 1865 after the American Civil War he came to Fall River, Massachusetts USA where he worked in the cotton mills as a carder. He died here in 1884. The Forrest name is originally French and the Forrests were French Huguenots. They fled France in the early 1600s, many settled near Dublin City, but many settled in Mallow City, County Cork. They owned linen mills although Protestants many converted to the R catholic faith. I have a list of a few living in Cork circa 1800. Hope this is of help! I can't see any connection, but one never knows. Tom
