Yes, the 1860 census shows Harriet to be still alive in June that year, but in the 1870 & 1880 census's a "Margaret" is mentioned, firstly as a "housekeeper" and then as a "wife". Who is this "Elizabeth" you refer to and where did you find her?

census in 1860 says done in June, cemetery may have year wrong on their records, found a Harriet Forrest in Index of NY Herald newpaper and date is the same 04/30, but 1861 which would make more sense.

Forrest- Deaf

Hi,
I've been researching the Deaf gene in my family and have traced it all the way back to England. The England Census has been a great tool at finding family members who are also Deaf, especially in the Forrest family. However, I'm having difficulty connecting them to my family tree. Has anyone researched Deafness for the Forrest or Adams family from England? They moved to New England in the 1600s-1800s. Thanks

My Mary Anne Forrest, born in 1865, married James Fowler Cassell in 1883, in Norfolk County, VA. In the marriage registration is listed her parents: J.R. and M.S. Forest. The marriage3 registration states that Mary Anne was born in Norfolk County, VA. The only reason I believe our Forrest Family is from Matthews County is because in my deceased Mother's first baby book from 1942, it stated that Mary Anne Forrest was from Matthews County. Thank you for any information you might have.

Hello, Only recently have I discovered that my Forrest line is from Matthews County. My Great-Grandfather, James Fowler Cassell, came from New York and married Mary Ann Forrest, daughter of J.R. Forrest. I have no info before they lived in Norfolk, Virginia. My Mother had written in a family tree in her first child's baby book that the Forrest Family was from Matthews County, VA. I always thought the "J." was for James, but I have no proof of that. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have been told by my father that we are descendants of Nathan Bedford Forrest, possibly he was the great (5) grandson, but I have not been able to verify it. I just started a family tree a few weeks and possibly could help others if I can find the connection. My possible ideas are Caroline ?Forrest? Olendorf who married George H. Olendorf, who was born April 14, 1848 and died June 1, 1916. Another possibility is Marie Meyer (married name) who married JB Meyer (supposedly both were born in Germany) or Amanda Lawyer (married name) who married William Lawyer.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
rebelwhite@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Rebecca Bell

Good possibility buried at Greentop, in N.Y, you can look them up, they show a Harriet buried in 1860 and a Frederick in 1939, if I recall correctly. However, the cemetery kept no paperwork with their burials, so out of luck on a confirmation. Pretty good chance, Elizabeth, 3rd wife, was catholic, found she was the godmother, to step-daughter, Charlotte's baby, in 1881. St Paul's Roman Catholic church. I haven't found the marriage yet, was trying to find something on line, may have to start writing.

I do have a George Forrest in my line born in 1758 and died in 1825. He had a son named Josiah. I have his parents as Philip Forrest and Mary Callis. I got this from another relative but have not independently verified it.
I dont have a birth year for Philip but I have a death year of 1797. Mary Callis born 1730 and died 1821. I hope that helps.

If you have any other information about these lines, I would love to hear from you and compare notes.

Wow-don't know how much help I am goign to be or if I will confuse it all more. My Forrest family were HUSH HUSH we werenot allowed to speak or question about the family; like an unwritten rule.

I hope as I write you can stick with my information-I am the greatgreat granddaughter of Theodore Forrest whom was a merchant marine at one time was born @1840 in Spain yet family is from Dudley England/Scotland-he married a Mary A Hennessey on 4/6/1867 in New York, New York-daughter of Michail Hennessey and Fannie Mason she lived from 2/3/1847 to 10/8/1929 and was born in Ireland. Theodore lived from @1840-1889 he died from Rheumatic causes..and had heart/cardiovascular health issues-which now I have-anyway.
Theodore an dMary had MANY children however only some lived-stillborns and death at early ages--? we do have Richard Forrest born @ 1867 in NY and married a believed Lizzie A winterscheidts. Richard Forrest born @ 1869 in NY to 10/7/1911 at 42 yrs old and was widowed at the time of his death he was an electrician. Theodore D Forrest born @1873 in Deleware married a Thomasena E Devlin and in 1920 lioved in Washington DC. there was a Benjamin Forrest born 8/4/1875 Deleware died 3/4/1893-there are RUMORS WHY-NOT SURE REAL ONE IF ANY. There was Francis Forrest born 7/11/1888 in Newark New Jersey "violet" and married in 1910 Agostino Cordasco. Then strangely Viola Violet Forrest born @1870 to 11/11/1877 died at 7 years of age in Philly buried at the K.P. Glenwood. Then my greatgrandpop Walter Michail Forrest born 3/21/1882 to 9/1975 he passed in bucks Countyand married "minnie" Whilimenia Carolina VonHarff 1887-1975. Now I want to ask we have Edwin-however he used John Edwin and He had alias? I heard he was in jail..not sure again not allowed to ask so what we hear dwe had to remember and now look up and play detectives. i remember hearing he was in the Armed Forces a USS Buffalo and something about a girl/lady possibly a "Priscilla?" I am so sorry if this sounds weird to you-it all is confusing

I would imagine that Charles Brandon Forrest was Church of England. His marriage to Margaret Catherine Hill seems likely to have taken place between 1860 - 1864 in New York, USA. Please let me know if you have any luck with this.

I don't know about the Carpenter family. Forrest's mother was my great-great great- aunt. Forrest and I are cousins, via the Beck family.

"Nathan" I believe comes from his grandfather on his father's side. "Bedford" simply from Bedford County, TN where he was born. Our common ancestor is his grandfather on the mother's side, Jeffrey Beck (and indeed Forrest had a brother named Jeffrey as well)

Hi
The Thomas Crawford Forrest is the one born on 2/11/1899 in Dennistoun. His father was Archibald and mother was annie B crawford. Thomas was my grandfather he immigrated to the US in the 1920s and married my gma Lena McCulloch who was also born in Glasgow. What happens is that I can't find more info on the rest of the family in Scotland like brothers sisters etc or farther up the tree. I did find one census (1901)that I believe to have him in it with 5 older siblings. I am planning a trip to Scotland within the next year and am trying to gather as much family info as possible before my trip. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Kim,
What exactly are you trying to find out? eg his date of birth, his parents etc?
Where does the name Archibald fit in?

There is a Thomas Crawford Forrest that was married in 1949 in Newton, Midlothian to an Isabella Stempl.. Livingstone - possibly his son, born in Tranent in 1926.

Another Thomas Crawford Forrest born in Dennistoun, Glasgow in 1899. That birth record would show his parents.

Do you know when he died or anything more about Lena - could she be Helen, Lena being a 'pet' name?

Dave
