In researching my Forreter files I found a William & Margaret McCord Forester from Ireland who had a son John born in Va, married Atha, moved to Tennessee and had children Mary, William, Rebecca, Samuel, Thomas, Andrew, John and Sarah.
I am trying to prove or dis-prove the Marmaduke tie to John Forrester 1802. I can find marriage license of Marmaduke and Ann but no tie to John. Does anyone have any birth, marriage, death or census records which would tie them together?

This is the information posted by Holly Tamer and put on the Forrester web site by Bob Owens. I do not believe this is correct? Here is why, this John, son of Marmaduke was born 1775 in Pa. All census data indicates our John was born about 1802 in Virginia. According to Barbara's death record her maiden name was not Booher but was Sullivan. Call me at 330-339-6972 or email me at harryforr@aol.com and we can go other the data and exchange information.

Harry

The John Forrester I have was born 1820 and married Barbara in Green Co Pa where Jacob was born. This would have been Jacobs mother and mother. What information do you have regarding the connection of John born 1729 and John born about 1802. Given the age gap there must have be at least one son of the John from 1729 who had a son that was the father of JOhn born 1802? Did you pick this up from the internet. I think I may have come across it before.

Hello Jennifer, I have came across your name before but do not remember how you are connected. Who were your grandparents? I have about 2600 people in my history files which includes the father and mother in laws. I also have many primary documents but never have been able to find John's parents. I have seen listing of his parents but with no supporting evidence. Since both Henry and William lived in Greene Co, Pa at the same time as John they may be related but I can not prove this.

Harry Forrester
harryforr@aol.com
I have a relative named John Forrester born about 1802 Virginia. He married Barbara Sulliavn in Green Co, Pa between 1821 - 1826 and became a gunsmith. Living in the Green County at the same time was Henry and William Forrester, relationship unknown. John's family moved to Tyler Co, Va now West Virginia between 1835 and 1839 then later, after 1860, to Kentucky. I am trying to determine who were the parents of John, his brothers and sisters plus where his parents were from. Can anyone help?

Re: FORRESTER -- England and South Africa?

Richard Forrester married Ann Howell in Shropshire in 1827. Ann was born in Prees, but I've not been able to confirm Richard's birth place, although a cousin of mine who is researching the same line, suspects he was born in Market Drayton in 1799 (name recorded as FORRISTER).
Their eldest son, Thomas was born in Market Drayton.
Richard's profession was Brewer/Beer Seller and the family moved to the Industrial suburbs of Salford, Manchester. Richard's youngest sons, ROBERT and ALFRED, both Engineers, moved north again to Middlesbrough (Robert first and then Alfred followed), where the Iron Industry was in it's infancy. Blast Furnaces were built at Witton Park, Durham, and for a brief period, Robert lived & worked at Witton Park, before returning to Middlesbrough. His brother, Alfred, continued the family's interest in beer and was a licenced victualler, running a Pub in what was the old part of the town. Alfred and his family became quite wealthy and owned one of the larger properties in the town. Alfred's son, Robert, emmigrated to South Africa in the early 1900's.
As I say, a cousin of mine is researching the same line and believes that Richard Forrester may be the child of Joseph Forrister and Mary Ray of Moreton-Say. I can give you more details about the years in Salford/Middlesbrough/SA/etc, but I may have to pass you over to my cousin for earlier years. (Email me at markyb70 at hotmail.com)
It does appear, however, that there may be a link to your line of Forresters of Moreton-Say. Regards, Mark.

My family are from the Prees/Hodnet and Moreton Say branch of the Forresters and still live in the area today. In fact there are a number of branches there. I think I have got the First Forresters in the area back to 1694 in Hodnet, Shropshire and would be very interested in swapping notes since it would be great to get further back.

I am not aware of the moves to Durham and South Africa and would be interested.

Wondering if anyone has any further information about the Forresters of Bucknall/Wetley/Cheddleton.
Trying to find out if the story that John Forrester came down from Scotland and settled here is correct. If so is there any evidence that he was in the Jacobite Army and stayed here. The evidence for this is said to be Johns will but haven't seen it as yet.

Jax

Re: Mary Elizabeth (Hale) FORRISTER

My grandfather, Charley Barney Hale(Hail) was born in Lawrence County, Tenn on 15 Jun 1881. His sister, Mary Elizabeth Hale(hail) was born In Tenn in 1889. I believe his mother, Amanda Melvina Wood (woods) was born in Lauderdale County, Ala in 1848. Her mother's name was Eliza(Elisa) and Amanda had a sister named Martha B 1846. I found them on the 1870 census in Lawrence Tenn. I also found Amanda on the 1850 census in Lauderdale, Ala when she was 3 years old but her father was in the home on either of these censuses. I have not been able to determine her father for sure, but I think he was Thomas Wood 1798 SC - 1850 Lauderdale, Ala. On the 1850 census there was also listed other siblings Robert B1837, Sousan B1841, John Randolph B1845, My grandfather told me that his mother, Amanda was a full blooded Indian, but I have no verficiation of this. If you can help me trace her mother Eliza or who her father was, I would appreciate it.

Hi Neil

Many thanks for the post. We have communicated before and I have reinvited you to accept access to my tree so you can see my progress. I made the post when I was first starting my research and was struggling. Joseph b 1862 was my great grandfather, one of the youngest of Joseph b 1829 and Elizabeth Matthews children.

Rather than Emily Nash moving north, Joseph moved south as part of the family business, which was establishing a chain of Butcher's shops. Emily was the oldest child and only daughter of Alfred Nash from Birmingham. Joe and Emily settled there and started raising a family, including my grandfather Frank Thomas Forrester. After a spell, the whole family moved south again to Southampton, where the butcher business expanded. My mother Margaret Joan Forrester was born there.

Other family members had branches in Northumberland and Lancashire through Joseph's younger brother Robert and his illegitimate nephew Robert Tweddle Forrester (son of Margaret Forrester).

From what I have been able to piece together from the various census', Elizabeth Matthews continued to live at home with her parents, and work on their farm, whilst Joseph lived and worked on his father's farm. They managed a fair few children, so got together as some times! The Matthews Farm was Swaites, which is now a well known Grade II listed building and a rather famous painting was made of it. The Forrester family were from the Lees Hill farming area.

Difficult to tell from Google Earth, but I guess the distance was just too great to walk to and from work every day, and both were needed on their own family farms. Also Swaites was BIG and the accommodation at Lees Hill may not have been as large. The Matthews family had no surviving son, only daughters and an illegitimate grandson. However Swaites did remain with family members at least until the turn of the century

I had been hoping to visit Cumbria earlier this year and start trawling the Parish Records to find out more about the earlier Forresters. Illness put that on hold but I do hope to get there in a couple of years or so. Best wishes

I don't know if this is still relevant for you, but here goes.
Joseph (b1862) married Emily in 1889. His father was Joseph Forrester (1829-1866). Born in Lanercost 1829. Married Elizabeth Matthews (1831-1921) on 18 March 1854 in Brampton.

Have you any idea why Emily moved north from Birmingham? (Apart from there being better views!!!)

John Forrester-Wrenbury and Burleydam, Cheshire 1780s

John Forrester, schoolmaster of Wrenbury, Cheshire married Elizabeth Nickson of Adderley on 9th Jan 1786 then settled in Burleydam, Cheshire and they had children Thomas Forrester (1786),Richard Forrester(1787),James Forrester(1788),Joseph Forrester (1790) after which I can find no record of where they went, or before this where John Forrester came from except he witnessed a Wrenbury marriage of John Hall to Elizabeth Forrester (1783) and was churchwarden at Newhall, Cheshire in 1780. If anyone has more information it would be gratefully appreciated... Richard Forrester

Wow! What an interesting story, I have never heard it before. Nancy Jane also had a lot of children and apparently never married their father Calvin Farmer but census records show he was married to another women and had children with as well.
