Hello all fellow members looking for the Fortunatos. I am searching for my fathers family- he passed in 1999 and never spoke much about them. His name was Gino Antonio Fortunato (born 12/15/1928), had a older brother named Joe (Guiseppe) and an older sister named Maria (Mary). Parents named Mary Rapasoto (maiden name) and Nicholas Fortunato. I don't know much else, and keep hitting walls when trying to find out info. He was born in Los Angeles, but his parents immigrated here from Italy, and I don't know where the siblings were born.

I am just beginning my family search and although I have scant information, I can tell you that my great-grandmother was Carmela Fortunato who married Leonardo Antonio Battafarano and lived in South Philly. I don't have dates with me at work but will look them up when I go home if you think there may be any connection. Supposedly she had a brother John whose son was named Frank.

If you think there may be any connection please let me know and thanks. I'm a newbie at this and haven't had much luck at all with finding towns or names on passenger lists or anything.

Jacki:

My great-grandmother was Carmela Fortunato, who had a sister Louise who I believe, married Joseph Rago who we believe might have lived in New Jersey. Carmela, Louis, Teresa (known as Tressa), John, Joseph, another son who we believe may have been called Michael, and another sister, Eleanor who stayed behind in Italy when Carmela's mother brought the family to Philadelphia. We also know that Carmela lived at 828 Marriott Street!!!!!!!

What I know of Louise is that she married Joseph Rago and had the following children: Romeo, Alfred, Louise and another child (we do not know the name). I'm not sure where I got the name of Michael but in one of my notes it mentions that he lived at the house on Marriott Street. We have two addresses: 828 and 829 Marriott.

I think we may have something here. There must be a connection don't you think?

Let me know what you think.

Jackie:

I emailed you a few years back in response to your post about Michael Fortunato...we had similar addresses for relatives in Philly. I've been looking over my notes and realized I posted incorrectly. I said Carmela Fortunato married Leonardo Battafarano...and that was incorrect. In truth she married Vito Nicola Miceli. I believe Carmela had a brother named Michael on Marriott Street in Philadelphia.

Email me back and we'll compare notes. THanks
Denise

Do you think your grandmother may have had a sister named Carmela? Carmela Fortunato (Miceli) was born in 1871 but am not sure where. We think Calabria, possibly Rocca Imperiale, Cosenza? We do know she had a brother named John.

Thanks for getting back to me. I found out the town they came from-Tramutola-it took me a long time to find it. My dad had un uncle who owned a hotel near there or in the town itself. He also had a first cousin who was a priest at the church in Viggiano. For some reason the priest left the priesthood-not sure why but i think it involved some woman. Anyway i hope this gives you a clearer picture of my background. By the way where are you from Domenico?
Ciao for now Mike

My name is Tisha and I am researching Fogliaro (changed later to Falaro). According to the Ellis Island records a Antonio Fogliaro came to the US in 1903 and stayed with a brother-n-law in CT by the name of Fortunato. I was wondering if the name Fogliaro is any where in your family tree? I'm not sure if the person, who might have been married to a Forutnato, was male or female. If you could let me know that would be great.
Tisha

I'm not exactly sure where in Italy the Nappis in my family originated from, although I know it's somewhere outside of Naples. However, I do know that I had relatives named Russo and Tufano who originate from Saviano, outside of Naples. Perhaps there's a connection? Do you have any other names? I can find out more about the Nappis that I know.

Hi,
My name is Jackii, I am looking for information on Louise Fortunato and her family from Philadelphia. She is my husband's grandmother. Her birth certificate names Michael and Carmela Fortunato as her parents. She was born on Jan. 4, 1896 at 829 Marriott Street. She died in 1986. I believe she had a sister Tessie, Rose, and maybe Frank and ?
Some of the other names surrounding her family are Liberto and Pepe. She married Anthony Nicollela in 1925 in Philadelphia. If any of this makes a connection let me know. I realize it has been a few years since you posted this and maybe you have found some additonal information. Thanks
