I am looking for information on my great grandmother Ida Fortune and my grandmother Virginia Coretha Fortune.

So far I have got their residency when they lived in Dade county Florida but I do not have see any immigration records on Ida fortune because she come from the British west indies and was not born in The US, I have not found Virginia Fortune's Birth records, death records or last known residency since she lived with her mother when she was 15, this has put my search at a stand still, if anyone has any good information that I could use that would be great, as far as I know Virginia lived in Florida, in Miami when she died.

I am looking for information on my gggrandfather William F. Fortune b abt 1835 in Canada. He married Nancy Ellen Thickston Lawrence 15 Jun 1864 in Missouri. Her 1st husband died in the Civil War leaving her with 2 young sons. The family story says that after the birth of their own son William F. Fortune (my grandfather) b Jul 1866 William Sr wanted to return to Canada but wanted his wife to leave her two sons from her 1st marraige behind. When she refused, he returned to Canada and left his family behind. I would like to find out about William Fortune Sr's life before and after his marraige to Nancy Ellen. I know nothing about him except his marraige to Nancy Ellen and the birth of his son William F. Fortune Jr. Nancy Ellen then married her 3rd husband Angus Levi McGillvary and had 4 more children.

For several years, I have been researching a man who went by the name of "Jack Fortune." He was said to be of Italian descent and in the late 1920s was working as a barber in the gold mining area of Red Lake, Northwestern Ontario. He was drowned there in June 1930. I have found info online that one of my ancestors,Thomas Fortune, 1740-1804 was married to Sarah Eubank. The info that I have shows that Thomas was married to Elizabeth Eubank, and Thomas' brother, Benjamin, was married to Sarah Eubank. I also found a listing for the Fortune Family cemetery in Nelson Co., Virginia that lists Thomas being married to Elizabeth Eubank.

Hello,

I am trying to find out as much as possible about Christian Samuel Sturzenegger and his family. He was born in Herisau, Switzerland in 1869. He married Nannie Josephine FORTUNE in Texas in 1896. He died in Pomona, CA in 1952. His father's name was Samuel Sturzeneger.

Christian and Nannie had three children all born in Waco, Texas:
Ida Vera Sturzenegger
Kathleen Vida Sturzenegger
Christine Muriel Sturzenegger

Nannie Josephine's father's name was John FORTUNE. She was born in 1880, possibly in Waco, Texas.

Christine Sturzenegger married Odell Bryant Barker in 1922. I am named after one of their sons, a WWII hero.

I have just started researching my husbands family tree. I have an obit from his great grandmother Sarah(Phillips)Morse who was married to William Morse 11-4-1856 in Penbrookshire. They came to America in 1882 with a John Fortune and John Howells. I believe them to be the "pioneer residents of Shamokin,PA and Hickory Ridge. Sarah & William's children are gone now the last one Caroline, passing in 1990. My mother in law who was one Sarah's granddaughters, is going to be 95 and not all too clear on things. Hello! My grandmother's first husband is Frank Britton, and that is James Britton's nephew. When I see the little green leaf pop up, and it seems relevent, I attach it... lol... This side of the family I'm not related to, but a few of my cousins are, since my Grandma had 2 kids with Frank.

Actuallly, John Jr was the first preacher in Falls Co. and Yolande was The first teacher in Marlin, Falls Co, , Tx. Fortune St was named for Yolande. They were my great grandparents. The family has stayed in Texas, spreading from Marlin to Waco as well as to Ft Worth and Houston.

I am also looking for information on John Sr parents and other ancestors as well. Do you have any info regarding Fortune land holdings? I know they had land in Falls Co. Would like to find documentation if possible for my records. I also know There was some relation to the Hanes family several generations back. Hope this helps!

I'm a volunteer photographer at findagrave.com and on one of my recent photo trips to the local cemetery, I ran across a stone for Patrick Fortune 1846-1872. The stone is very simple with a delicately carved design & has only his name and those dates. It seemed so lonely almost obscured by the tall grass and I couldn't resist taking a picture of it and creating a memorial for Patrick on Find A Grave. If anyone has an obituary or more information on who Patrick was, please let me know so that I can update his memorial. His stone is in a cemetery in Seattle, WA.

anything you could share would be fantastic. I can't seem to get anything about his parents (except their names) or the place in Irland he came from, etc.

1. JOHN FORTUNE was born on 15 Aug 1830 in near Enniscorthy, Wexford County Ireland. He died in Jun 1919 in St Paul, Neosho, Kansas, USA. He married (1) MARY JANE ALTON on 05 Jul 1881 in Clark, Missouri, USA, daughter of Patrick Alton and Mary Deegan. She was born on 04 May 1848 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA. She died in Feb 1926 in St Francis Cemetery, St. Paul, Neosho, KS. He married (2) MARGARET A CANFIELD, daughter of James Canfield and Ellen. She was born in 1838 in New York. She died on 11 Jan 1881.

Hi, I'm looking for any information about Nick (Nicholas, Nickolas) Fortune (b. 1903 in either Arkansas or Oklahoma, d. 1980 in Wenatchee, WA). He was married to Marjorie Lignitz. They had 3 sons as far as I know: Nick W., James (Jim), and Bill. Bill married Wilma Yancey and they lived in Calico Rock, Arkansas for many years. This family has many ties to Wenatchee, WA and Izard County, AR.

I've heard that Nick's mother or grandmother was Cherokee and lived in Oklahoma. Other than that I have nothing.

Any information would be helpful and greatly, greatly appreciated.

I am trying to find my grandmothers sisters family. Around 1909 or 1910 my great aunt Mamie Goodwin married Murphy Fortune in Floyd Co. Georgia. They moved to Ashville NC at around 1912 and had 2 children Carl and Bonnie. I am just trying to connect with any of their relatives. I know that there was 2 grandchildren named Hensley (Charles and Margaret) born about 1950.

Do you have anything on Thomas Fortune and Martha about 1820-1832 in VA? Thomas must have died because Martha married a Lunsford & lived in Dinwiddie VA until her death.

All I know is that he was born in Ohio....not sure where...I think I remember reading on my mother's birth certifiacate that he was 21...So I think he was born in the 1940s. But I can't really remember. I will know for sure when I get my mother's birth certificate mailed to me.

Well I never knew anything about my mother's side of the family.....I was looking at her birth certificate a seven years after she died....and I learned that her father is Derald Dean Fortune...All I remember reading is that he's from Ohio...I know nothin more until I have her birth certificate in my hands again....Maybe RosaLee Cathey could help too in your search....I have had no luck looking him up...So I know nothing about that side of my family...Please help me

From what I can determine, my line of Fortunes arrived in the 1600s from Ireland/Wales. First went to Caroline County, Va then to Nelson/Albemarle County. At one time, there was an area in Nelson County known as Fortune's Cove, but was destroyed in the 1970s by floods from hurricane. A lot of the Fortunes moved south to NC and west after the war in the 1860s. Jimmy Fortune of the Statler Brothers is originally from that area and is a distant relative. I have traced by branch back to 1848 in Chesterfield County, Va, where I currently live.

Aparently my Ggrandfather, John Fortune, was born in County Wexford 15 Aug 1830, near Enniscorthy, Wexford County Ireland.

I am unable to get any detail of his parents and beyond. can you recommend any technique to research Irish records online? I'd love to visit your fair country but that won't happen for a few years.

My grandmother was Margaret Fortune....she married into
the family. My grandfather was Lloyd Mace Fortune from
the Pawhuska, Oklahoma area. I seldom come across the Fortune name that someone is not related some way....

PLEASE HELP ME! My grandfather was Charley P (Charles Paul Fortune), born in Floyd County, Georgia c.1877. His father (I THINK) was John W.born in 1827 & mother ( I THINK) was (Parthiny)Jane born in 1844 also in Floyd, County, Georgia.
He married Nancy Elizabeth Thomas June 15, 1897. I cannot get any further back that John & Jane on him. I think the fortunes came from South Carolina but am not sure. I have traced from nelson & amherst county, va. There is a fortune cove va, I am kin to the orginal owners. Ihave traced back to John Fortun of wales born in 1658. I hope this helps.

I have traced my tree/name (Fortune) back to my 7th GGF John Fortune (c. 1658 - 1741). He immigrated from somewhere in the UK in the mid to late 1600s, settled in what is now Caroline County, Virginia, where he died in 1741.

I have found documentation (The Early Settlers of Maryland - An Index to Names of Immigrants, 1633 - 1680) of a John Fortune coming to the US in 1662 as an indentured servant, arriving in a port in Maryland with someone named Eleanor Fortune. I do not yet know the port of origin of this voyage nor do I not know the relation of Eleanor and John. Finally, I have no proof this is the same John Fortune as my 7th GGF. But this is the only John Fortune I can find in this time period in this particular area of the US).

So my current theory is that John came to the US a child with either his older sister or his mother, Eleanor. It was not uncommon for small children to be shipped off as servants to the New World. Now to prove these two Johns are the same person!
