Re: Francois family from Corsica France

Hi, I don't know if you are still needing info. My greatgrandmother was Louise Marie Francois who married Albert O Duffy. They only had two children, Mamie Thelma (grandmother) and Robert Fred who never married. I remember as a teenager, after my grandmother passed away, I liked to go through a box my mom had kept that had photographs and I remember reading a letter Louise had handwritten claiming land her father, Andre, had left in Corsica. In the letter she gave details about his arrival in Louisiana. And, even though I cannot recall the details, she mentioned the ship's name and date. My mom, it seems, has the box in storage. I have only recently started researching my family tree and I have mentioned the letter to my mother but she seems to have no knowledge of it. I have not been able to find details about Andre Francois, only census info from LA. My aunt Norma, Louise's youngest sister, lived with our family the last couple of years of her life, she talked about Edgar and Frankie, but not much about her older siblings. Are you related to my great grandmother Louise? I would be grateful for any info you might have on the Francois. I'm curious about the stepson, what was his name?

FRANCOIS SURNAME FROM PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LOUISIANA

I am doing genealogical research and trying to find more inquiries about my creole ancestors and fourth great grandmother and grandfather whose names were Josephine and Honore "Pahte" Francois. I do not know my fourth great grandmother Josephine's maiden name or if she had even derived from Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. I have had a very difficult time trying to find their marriage records, I am hypothesizing that they had gotten married around 1850. I am trying to find more inquiries about their children or my fourth great aunts and uncles, JUSTIN FRANCOIS born about 1854, JULIEN FRANCOIS born about 1856, AUGUSTINE FRANCOIS born about 1859, FRANCOIS FRANCOIS born about 1860, HONORE FRANCOIS born about 1862, HYPOLITE FRANCOIS born about 1863, ADELIDE FRANCOIS born about 1864(It is a very high probability that she was my third great grandmother who had been called DELIETTE, but had changed her name to ELISTE. She had married a man named Richard Jefferson in 1887 ). LUCIEN FRANCOIS born about 1868, JOSEPHINE FRANCOIS born about 1870, and CAMILITE FRANCOIS born about 1875.

I am looking for information on my great grandfather, Walter Francois. He was, according to family legend, born on a ship coming from France just as it entered New York Harbor. He was said to be a twin, but no one remembers his brother's name. He would have been born in the late 1800's as his daughter, Helen Franchois, was born in 1909 in Illinois. He was married to Ruth Little and Americanized the last name at some point. Thank you!!

Peter D. Francois (b. 1868) married Hannah Doty (b. 1873) in 1892. Stated they had been married for eight years on 1900 US Census. I located both of them in the 1915 IA State Census. In the 1920 US Census, Hannah is remarried to a W. L. Beckett. Found their marriage date to be 1/10/1918. I can't locate Peter in the 1920 US Census so I'm assuming he passed away sometime between after the 1915 IA census was taken Hannah's marriage to Beckett. I would love to have an obit for Peter or any other information regarding him. Thanks.

Francois (dit Lepage) / Tousignant

Looking for the parents of Louis Lepage who married Madeleine Boyer Feb. 2, 1735 in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Province of Quebec.
According to the parish register I consulted, his parents were Pierre Lepage and Madeleine Tousignant. Various unverified sources suggest they married circa 1702, location unknown; and that his grandfather was Pierre Lefrancois dit Lepage whose marriage to Madeleine Gaumond on Aug. 16, 1670 in Quebec City I found in the register of that parish.
Other unverified sources suggest his father's name was Louis Francois. Would very much love to find the record of the mariage of his parents. Any help much appreciated.
Hello Mary,

Bethel Ruth Francois is my Great Grandmother though I have never met her and am not sure when she died. Her Daughter's name was Ruby Belle Francois who was born in Tomah, WI and was my Grandmother as well. She had married my Grandfather Melvin Laverne Johnson in or around Mondovi, WI, and Melvin died June 12th, 1944 in the Normandy invasion on the shores of France. Ruby Belle Johnson (Maiden Francois) (her stepfather's name was Hedding, and no information about her paternal father except his name might have been Underhill) came out to California in the Santa Cruz area with my Father Kenneth Melvin Johnson. She married a Elmer John Kensinger who has passed away as well.

Is any of this information helpful?

Regards,
Ken M. Johnson

Book

Barbara, you mention a book on your family tree. This is my story as I can comprehend it. My ggrandfather was Riley Dixon(Dickson) born 2/3/1873. He has one child left living out of ten. Her name is Jesse Reynolds. Riley was born in St. Landry, LA. For some reason, when he was either a baby or a small child, he had to live with a Dave Mathews and Elizabeth Doyle? Mathews. They had 2 children that Riley spoke of, Harvey and Ida. Now the strange part of this is that in 1949, Riley got baptised as a Catholic. His wife was Celestine Andress and she wanted him to become a Catholic for many years. Well, in March of 1949, Riley got baptised. All of his years he never spoke about his parents. His children never asked him who they were so he never told anyone, except maybe Celestine. On his baptismal record, he told the priest that his parents were Gallus Dixon and Elnora Mathews. I have no idea who they were or where they came from. I can't find any kind of information on them. No marriage record, no burial record, nothing. No one has ever heard of the name of Gallus or Elnora. Could you PLEASE check your book for me and see if there is any way possible that they were listed in it? PLEASE?? Riley didn't think too highly of Dave. He had to call them 'Uncle Dave' and 'Aunt Betty'. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Has your grandmother, Ida, ever spoken about her childhood and the little boy, Riley, who lived with them for a while? Please, this is very important to me, Barbara. I don't know where else to look for these people. It would mean so much to me if you have ever heard of anything about this or if they are listed in your family tree. If you want, you can email me at hill2guard@yahoo.com. I'd appreciate it so much if you can get back with me on this. Thank you, Barbara.

lou lee
