Dear Andy,

My grandfather Mattia (Matthew) Freda, was born in Cellole outside of Naples circa 1898. He had many siblings. He immigrated with his wife Genevieve, around 1918 through Ellis Island. Freda is a very common name in Cellole. They settled in Jersey City. We are almost certainly related, but I doubt there's any records to show it without a known, common relative. Good luck.

Andy Freda

Freda's from Sessa to NY/NJ area

Hi all, I'm searching for information on my Freda family which originated in Sessa Aurunca.

Here is what I know:

My great-grandfather was Tommaso Freda b. Dec 23, 1883 (some records have 1884). Arrived in NY in Aug 20, 1907. Married Addolorata (Dora) Martone. Died in 1971.

Our family knows of his brother Agostino (Gus) Freda. I found in the records that he was born Aug 18, 1892. Arrived in NY on May 20, 1909. Lived mainly in Jersey City, NJ.

Now this is what I've found by searching around .. in short .. a lot of family no one in my family ever knew of. My source for a lot of this information are passenger records where they listed they were going to stay with various family members.

So I've found brothers Giacomo, Antonio, Luigi, and sister Michellina and maybe another brother Nunzio, although he might have been their cousin.

Giacomo was married to Serafina Balsamo. They had children Josephine, Delnata (this person's name is hard to read on every record I found, and is probably incorrect but it is the closest I can get) and Margaret

Luigi Freda was married to Fillomena Sessa. They had children Charles, William (or Victor), Carmine (or Carl), Louise and Armond. Sorry for the name confusion here, but on different census records they had different names).

Haven't found much on Antonio just yet .. but lived as a boarder in 1910.

Michelina lived with Luigi in 1920, but gone in 1930. Moved out or died, I don't know

Nunzio Freda married Augila Russo (sp?) and they had at least Benedetto and Vincenzo. Benedetto is listed as coming to America with his uncle Giacomo and aunt Michelina. Vincenzo later arrives with his father. But Antonio's immigration records list staying with a Nunzio who is a cousin .. so I'm not 100% clear on the relation. Maybe Antonio is wrong. Maybe it is just name confusion.

I'm hoping to find anyone who might have information on this family .. are we related. Can you tell me more why my family doesn't know anything about these other siblings of my great-grandfather. Can we exchange photos of these people? Anything is helpful.

Jason

My grandfather owned barber shops, quite a few of them were in side the old Bamberger stores (now Macys). Does this ring any bells?

I am researching the Fredo/Freda Family of Hastings PA. My g grandfather Gaetano Freda came from Italy with his brother Anthony and moved to Hastings PA. Gaetano had a son Joseph Fredo who moved to Jersey changed his name to Freda and married Eunice Catherine Torsiello. They had two children Joseph and Diane Freda. Joseph Fredo/Freda also had a son named John from a previous relationship. John's mothers name was Josephine also from the Hastings area of PA. John was raised by Gaetano and Carmella Fredo in the Fredo Family Home. His nickname was Jackie. He is the half brother of my father Joseph Freda.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you are member of the Fredo Family I have alot of information on them.

I've hit a brick wall! My Grandfather's name was Albert N. Freda b: 1919 Somerville, Massachusetts, d: 1966 Massachusetts. He married Mary DiGregorio b: 1922 Somerville, Massachusetts, d: 1998, Florida. I know he had a brother that was a year older Anthony Freda b: 1918, Somerville, Massachusetts, d: 1985, Connecticut. Albert & Anthony's parents were Paul Freda b: 1888 (?), Rome, Italy d: 1952, Connecticut and Mary Cataldo b: 1893, Multifulgone, Italy d: 1978, Connecticut. But this is as far as I can get. I can't seem to find anything on Paul Freda or Mary Cataldo. I also don't know much about Anthony Freda, I think he had a wife, Helen? If anyone has any info on these members of my family it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

After Gelsomina died he married her sister Filomena. They had 6 children. They all migrated to the U.S. except one. Francesco died in 1909.. Filomena married Antonio Amodeo. I have more info if you'd like.
