Dear Chris,
In Holland is a large brancge of the
Freke Family. Most of them lives in and around the Fishing-seaside place Katwijk. There are also Freeke's here, belonging to the same family. In my opinion originate the name from a given name, this is "Frederick". And thus is the surname a "patroniem". Where the first ancestor came from, I dont know. He appeared in 1743 for the first time in Noordwijk. This is also a seaside place here. His name was
Hartman Freeken. It is possible that he came from the
UK, but I doubt. If you have any suggestions, I would welcome them.
Lots of greetings, Cees
