Notice I said my Myers family. Sgt John Jacob Myers later Lt John Jacob Myers was General Fremont's aide. We are connected to the Doty's of Edwin Doty of the Mayflower.

The Myers family were riverboat people in Pittsburgh connected to a Lewis and Clark family. They are all buried next to the Sill and Kennedy family. One person is named John F Kennedy. The McKeesport History Center wants to say John Kennedy. Richard Nixon and Gov Lawrence visited that grave site at Versailles Cemetery in Pittsburgh McKeesport.

I think this has something to do with the Nixon Theater in Pittsburgh owned by actor and dancer Gene Kelly and Dr John Vetter who was part of the ToddAO company. The Nixon was setup for ToddAO.

This leads to the Selznick, Mitchell, Hitchcock family of Pittsburgh. They lived on Ellsworth Ave in Pittsburgh next to General James Scott Negley who sister was married to Thomas Mellon.

David O Selznick produced Gone With the Wind and there was a Catholic Kennedy in the movie. It seesm Margaret Mitchell had help with the book by F Scott Fitzgerald.

The Nixons were said to be another riverboat family in Pittsburgh.

By the Kennedys, I mean the generation of my grandfather, who was born in the 20s (he is still alive right now). I do not mean the famous Kennedys, as in Jonh F, Robert and Bobby (though it is possible we could be related by distant ancestry). Most people tend to get that wrong, mixing up me with others based on our names. But that is okay. As for Fremont, if you look him up on, say, Wikipedia or in an encompassing encylopedia, you would see how he is an ancestor of mine.

Hmm..as for the burial, well it might not be a coincidence. Did your ancestors know of my grandpa (John Kennedy), or my Grandma? (Bennett), before they met? Keep in mind that my grandpa came from the Kennedy side of the family. I know my aunt has all the records dating back to my ancestors voyage on the Mayflower, so I would have to ask her. It will be very strange indeed if this was no mere coincidence, however I do, at least in American history, have a rich bloodline, with senators, artists, that famous trailblazer during the Western days, and so on. And yes, my family at least, is related to John C Fremont, at least in ancestry.

But yes, I will keep you up to date if I am able to get those records or not, my aunt has been very stringent with them as of late, though I doubt she would relent on me seeing them (unlike my dad), so stay tuned.

I am not sure what you mean by The Kennedy's. I do know John C Fremont was nominated by Francis Preston Blair as the Republican Candidate in Pittsburgh PA Feb 1856. Francis Preston Blair's son was Montgomery Blair who tried to get General Robert E Lee to fight for the Union.

My Pittsburgh Myers family, who were into riverboats, are buried next to a Kennedy family actually known as the Kennedy/Sill family of McKeesport. I know President candidate John Kennedy with Richard Nixon visited that gravesite in 1960 with Mayor Lawrence. The picture of all three are not by the gravesite but rather taken in downtown McKeesport. The picture is now at the McKeesport History Center. One of the Nixon/Kennedy debates was in Pittsburgh and some say it was in Mckeesport at the same time.

Sooo what are you saying? For years I have been treating this as a coincidence.

I doubt that everyone who has the last name of "Fremont" is related. John Charles Fremont is actually an ancestor of mine, back before we became known as the "Kennedys". We go back even further than that, with ties to the Uncle of George Washington. We have records proving our relation, and my great-grandmother was able to prove relation dating all the way back to the Mayflower in order to become known as one of the "daughters of the American Revolution". In fact, my grandmother's maiden name was Bennet (aka the woman John Charles Fremont married) so we are, in fact, related. I know there is a lot for you guys to know about my family tree, being as famous as it is (including the famous painter, as well), so if any of you would love to know about it, just shoot me an email at pjkennedy27@msn.com, I may not necessarily reply straight away, but I will make sure to, that I assure you of.

My grandfather was Charles Lafayette Fremont born Nov. 7, 1863 in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, we don't know much about him or his family so I wouldn't know if there is any relation to John C. Fremont. At age 38 or 39, my grandfather came to Danbury Wisconsin -- we think from Pennsylvania and he worked on my Great Grandfathers farm and then married his daughter/my grandmother Bertha Melvina Folley (Born Feb. 18, 1885). We think his Mother was Caroline ? Buckley and his dad possibly Charles L. Fremont Sr. but we don't know for sure. We believe he, my grandfather was married previously. My mother Loretta Anne Fremont Colwell (Born 1-5-1918) said he never spoke of his relatives possibly because of previous marriage?? My mother tried to do some researching and found out that Luzerne County Courthouse records were burned in a Fire. Does any of this fit into John C. Fremont lineage?

Mrs. John Charles Fremont in the Civil War

"Mrs. John Charles Fremont was in Missouri with her husband when he aroused the wrath of Lincoln. On August 30, 1861, the Federal major general issued a famous "emancipation proclamation" concerning the territory over which he had military control. As soon as word aboutr Fremont's action reached Washington, the president firmly requested that he rescind it.
Furious, Fremont's wife, the daughter of the powerful Missouri senator, Jesse Hart Benton, went to the capital to intercede. Lincoln is known to have seen Jessie Fremont on at least two occasions in early September, but he refused to modify his stand. Disappointed and angry, she returned to her husband in the war zone and remained with him until he was relieved of command in November."

I am not related to the Fremonts. I am just passing on this information, which comes from a book titled "Civil War Curiosities" by Webb Garrison. 1994.
Joyce

Re: Fremont and Francois Pierre Boehm

I understand that my relative, Francois Pierre Boehm, an immigrant from Hessen Darmstadt Germany invited Fremont many times to his home in St. Louis, MO. in the 1840's/50's. My family history tells that Boehm supplied some of Fremont's funding for his expediations west. Boehm wanted to travel cross country to CA with Fremont on one of his trips but was persuaded by his wife to go by boat from New Orleans to CA. Boehm arrived in CA and waited for Fremont in Oroville where he died in 1858 in a fire. Has anyone read or does anyone know about this Boehm connection to Fremont?????

Andrea Boehm Daroca

John Charles Fremont - Colorado Explorer

The Friends of the Juneau Public Library's Amazing Bookstore (a nonprofit community recycling bookstore that raises money for the Juneau Alaska libraries) recently received a copy of "The Making of Colorado" by Eugene Parsons published in 1908. It appears to be a first edition. Since I volunteer at the bookstore and also do a lot of genealogy work on my family, I am wondering if you know anyone who would like to buy this book from us. I have looked at the Amazon and Alibris sites on the internet and can only find two copies of it for $100 and $79.80. Our volume is in fair condition with cloth cover that shows wear. There is a little water damage on one corner. The interior is clean and intact. We are interested in finding an interested buyer who will pay a fair price plus shipping. If you know of anyone interested in it, please have them email me directly with an offer. We have sold other local history books this way if you need references.

Heidi Girton
Juneau, Alaska
The name John Charles Fremont is part of my ancestry -- minus the surname attached to yours. My Fremont ancestor was born and died in France. His wife, Anna, came to Chicago in 1854 with her four young children, including three sons: John Charles, Rudolph Henry, and William David (my line). It's possible a sibling named a descendant John Charles, etc. It's also possible the name was popular because of the famous explorer of that name and that there is no family link at at all. You're welcome to write if you think I can help you.

I am interested in Fremont, and the California history he created in the Gold Rush era. Jose Noriega and John March led his and his men to Tuleburg, now Stockton, California. I met a decendent of his named Margret while working on a set shooting a documentary at San Juan Bautista in 1996. We are having a family reunion of some old California Pioneer families in August, and would like to sepeak with anyone related to Genberal Fremont's decendants. I also know that according to Manny Marshall and Tom Marshall, their grandfather Ben Marshall came on an expeditiopn with Kit Carson / Fremont, and let a canon in the sierra Nevada foothills, never has been located.
