I have a little information on Lucinda Frith, born 1844, daughter of Thomas D. Frith and Elizabeth Scarborough. She married Samuel Hodges in 1858. Is this who you are looking for?

Ron, was she African-American? Did she or Samuel possibly have a slave named Lucinda? I'm having one heck of a time trying to find my ggrdmother. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have any additional information on Lucinda Frith beyond her marriage date to Samuel. She is not in my line so I have not tried to find anything more. Since the marriage was in 1858, before emancipation, I doubt that she was African-American. However, some of the Frith's were slave owners. Have you looked at the "Freedman's records"? I just read a news article that the LDS Family History Library just released a CD of former slaves from immediately after the civil war. More information is found at their web site: www.familysearch.org.

Hi Richard
The father of John Frith b. about April 1819 (who married Elizabeth Payne) is said to be Harbert Frith b. Abt 1778 d. 25 Dec 1843 Bedford, VA.

There is a note "According to John Admire Turner, his grandson, Harbert lived on Goose Creek, in Bedford County, Virginia, between Goose Creek and Stony Fork.
Birth and death dates are believed to be taken from the Old Turner Bible. The last person to have possession of the Bible was Mrs. Charles L. Holton, nee Lucy Turner. Any inaccuracies may be due to carelessness in copying and/or original recording."

I'm interested in tracing these Friths further back

The name Frith is/was at least common in Bermuda. I am named after Sanders Frith, born c.1756 in Bermuda. His mother's father was John Sanders from Virginia, but I know little definite about their origins. My grandfather was Alexander Hutchings Frith, bn 1872; his father was Alexander John Frith, bn 1829; his father was Archibald Frith, brother of Dr John Frith, bn c 1795; and Sanders had five children; Archibald; John; Edward Sanders; Richard ( possibly part "coloured"), and one whose name escapes me at this posting. I think that Sanders father and grandfather were both Lazerus Frith, but I have not separated others with the name Frith from the 1700's.and there are a number of other families. I may becontacted on my wife's email
My great grandmother was a Hutchings; her mother/grandmother was an Albuoy; her grandfather was a Washington, from Nevis .he arived here in 1795.
