I just saw your message that you sent in April. My Grandfather Walter Ernest Froud was born in Swindon, England
and settled in Montreal, Quebec. His parents were Edith Jane Pound and Thomas Froud.

My grandmother was Annie Froud Died April 1924 Aged 60 Her Parents were Thomas & Jane Froud (Cousins)
Both grew up in Slough U.K then moved to Camberwell Greater London They had six daughters Janes Father was Philip Froud
Story goes the forefathers originated from France or
mabe Holland hence the De Froud name which then became Froud

My Grt Grandmother was Annie Froud Died April 1924 in Dullage London England Her parents were Thomas & Jane Froud Cousins They moved to Camberwell London or as it was then in Surrey They had six Daughters He had a brother named Philip Thye went to london from Slough were were born
Some say their forefathers came from France or even Austria
I have a photo of them both As it happens I have reatives in Montreal from my Fathers side

Mine were Thomas b. & Jane Froud Cousins They had six daughters Spelling of names offen altered in those days, people imigrating to Englands not always understandable It could be Froud ,Freude or Frowd I have never heard of Fruid as a nameYou may find your spelling of it wrong I traced Thomas Froud with brother Philip back to Camberwell City of London coming from Slough nr Ascot U.K where he bred horses We beleive his origin may have been French, or even Austrian My records are packed away since I recently moved Sorry I cant be more helpful My Grt Granmother was Annie Froude born 1864 in Camberwell London The 'Freudes were a famous family who came from Germany&/ Austria/ Bankers. Hello-My Great Great Grandfather was David Fruid. He married Jane Dawson. They emigrated to Canada about 1850. Jane and David were from Scotland. I have found several records of other Fruids in Scotland back to the 1600's. I cannot locate much info on David and Jane. There are records for a Jane and David Freed. Also, my Aunt thought the name was Frude. I would appreciate any help on my Scottish Fruid family. I've search Clan and District records but no Fruids.

I only have one Thomas son of Elmo and I have been told he had no children. In another Froud tree I have Eliza born 1909 so can't be your Eliza.

both Froudes
They lived in Camberwell Greater London and Thomas owned the rights of his Hansome cabs Company

Clyde Froud was the son of James Froud and Ellen May.
James had 4 sons Clyde, James, Isaac (Ike) and Arthur.

Clyde married Etta Hartsell and they had one son, Carl.
Carl married Otherene Yingling. They had 5 children all of whom are still living. 2 are still in White County.

Arthur married Ellen (?) and they had at least 4 children. James E., Harry, Ruth, Darrell

Isaac George married Eleanor there were no children.

James Jr. married Christine

Hello, I just read your post, and was wanting to know if you had any more information on the Frouds. Clyde Froud was my great great grandfather. All of my side of the Froud family still live in White County. I have quite a bit of information already, but am always looking for more if you have any for me.

Dorothy Frood born UK 1916

Dorothy was born (I'm told) on 30 Nov 1916. In the UK 1911 Census her parents (and 4 older children) are living in Southwark, central London, but no record can be found for her birth (despite checking various spellings). Dorothy's father was Thomas, her mother Margaret (maiden name Day), both born about 1872, married 1892. Dorothy married Francis Rawlings in 1935 in Romford, Essex, and she died 1978. Any information on her birth greatly appreciated.

I'm researching a Lillian Froud. Probably born sometime between 1900 and 1916 or thereabouts.

My Grandfather Ernest Matthews (b. 1897) had a child (Cyril George Matthews) in 1930 born in the Brighton Area.
I have just begun the research for marriage and birth certificates but not getting on very well.
The birth certificate for Cyril shows Lillian Matthews nee Froud as the mother but I can't find a marriage record yet for Lillian/Ernest.

Regarding her birth, one likely candidate is a Lillian Froud from Woodlands near Wimborne.
Do you have any thoughts??

The family on the 1881 census is mine. Oddly, some members within the same household have different surname spellings, some as De Frond, some as De Fronde. This is my Mary, plus her siblings, step-siblings, and her mother and step-father (the Suttons).

Have you ever been on the Morman Family research page??
There is one Defrond family from the 1881 Census
When you click on their name it will open and it will also say family hit that button and it tells you what there jobs were and the address where they lived.There is only one family.
You just hit LDS in search and family research will come up.You have probably done this.
I cant remember off hand where I saw the French Defrond but I will search some more.Im bloody old and retired so I can Piddlefool around do what I want...............

I am in Brisbane, Queensland.

I saw the DeFroud's in the US social security death index, there was a Constance and a man, I can't remember his name off the top of my head. I made a note of it, in case they were related. It may have been that they actually did have the name De Froude, rather than it being a transcription error/spelling mistake at some stage.

It's great that your mother was reunited with her family. A lot of English people wound up in Perth. My biological mother (the one related to the DeFrond/e's) came over from England when she was a child, and they were in Perth for a time.

I've only ever searched for the name DeFroud on the French sites, before I knew that the name was really DeFrond/e. Do you remember what site it was?

I thought you were in the UK.Where are Down Under????
I was just sitting here looking up Defrond Defroud whatever.
There was one DeFroud I found that came to America.
Funny My mums sister went to Australia when she was a very young girl.My mum was put in a home after her mother died
had no Idea where her siblings were,She found her sister during the war after writing to the Australian High commisioner.
Anyway last year my sister made the big trip and got to meet all of the family.
They are all in Freemantle Perth.
I did find a Defronde in one of the French sites,i will see what else I can find

Thank you for the information. I'm fairly certain that Ernest belongs to a group of De Frond's that I have not yet linked to mine, but presumably they're related. I've also come across the moving company, I assume the owner is related too, as it is quite an uncommon name.

Hello from the USA .I do not know much about the DeFronds
I think mum lost touch during the war and when his wife died.
Our family all moved to Sussex,Every one else stayed
in London.

I suppose that could have been our Ernest .My mum was born in 1913
.I call mum on Saturdays from here I will ask her if she remembers anything about the Defronds.

There are DeFronds in the UK that have that huge moving company they move people all over England.Are you related to them???
If I find any other info from mum I will let you know.

Hi Lynne, thank you so much for your post. It's been awhile since I"ve had a look at this board, I really must get around to asking someone to change the name, as my reletives are Defrond/e's instead of Defroud/e's.

Upon reading your post, I did a search for Defroond, and found a family in the 1881 census, then thought I'd try Defroand, and found a heap of people. One of them was an Ernest, did your Ernest die in 1995? I've found a death:
Ernest Defroand 10 Mar 1913 Oct 1995 82 Greenwich London

Do you think that this could be him?

Someone did mention to me the possibility of the family being Huguenots, do you have any further inforamtion on the subject at all?

Thought I would just check in.My mothers sister Caroline Ditzel Married Ernest Defrond[Found them as DEFROOND,they get a different spelling at every cencus.
As a little girl I remember Ernest coming to visit with his two boys he had just lost his wife,And that was during the war
or just after.Lost track of them now.
Do know they were Huegenots French DE may have maeant{ The}
My Mother is still alive she is 94 and lives in Sussex.

Hi Barbara, I have done very little on my froud side as it is difficult to find their locations.
My gt Grandfather married Ada Elizebeth Jane froud at Barham Kent 1877. Ada Father was william froud.
I do know there is a group of froud names in kent, a round Loose and Ashford Kent.
I do not have any early ada Fagg nee froud info except from the censuses.

My Great grandmother was Miriam Froud b. April 9, 1877 Newfoundland. She married William Ernest Farnham May 31, 1899, he was born October 13, 1877, Nova Scotia, Canada. William's Father was Charles Farnham and mother Maria G. Wyman. I have no other information on my Froud family. Miriam Froud came to Boston Massachusetts with my grandmother Eliza or Elsie Farnham when she was a baby. She later married a Starrett. That is all I know about her. My great-grandfather George Froud (dob 1835) had a brother Clement born Q3 1846 ( both in West Kington,Wick, England) who was a bodyguard to Queen Victoria. Family members said he was VERY tall. I don't know if he was in the British Navy however.
Parents were John Froud (dob c. 1798 and Jane (dob c.1805)
If this is a match, I can provide additional information.
Later generations used the spelling Froude.

My great great great grandmother was a woman called Sarah Froud, who according to her answers on successive census returns, was born in Calne, Wiltshire around 1829. I can't trace her in the 1841 census, but in 1851 she's living in London, employed as a housemaid in Camberwell. She married George Turner, post office worker in Nov 1851, had at least 10 children, and died in 1910. On her marriage certificate, she gives her father as Daniel Froud, carpenter, I can't find any trace of him in the census data at all - he may have died before 1841. I can't find anyone by the name of Froud, Froude, Frowd etc in the Calne census, though there's a family headed by John Froud living in Bishop's Cannings (which is very nearby) in the 1851 census.
I'd be very glad to hear if you managed to find out anything more about Ada or her sister, and the Calne connection

Sorry I can't be more specific; I'm researching this for a friend and he has very little family information. I was hoping you could help with some info. Our family is stuck on their roots. My husband's great great grandmother was Hannah Froud from England. She married William Lovegrove. One of their children Eva Maria Lovegrove B:1877 married Henry James Donald B:1875. They got married 1898 in Fulham, England (it could be wrong). Our problem is we can't find any info on his great grandfather Henry James Donald. The Lovegrove side is very easy.

Any info would be a help.

My husband's great great grandmother was Hannah Froud from England. She married William Lovegrove.
One of their children was Eva Maria Lovegrove and she married Henry James Donald. Can you shed any light on Henry Donald. We are at a lost of our roots.

Have a look at the original images. I have found a whole series of Fronds who turned out to be froUds.
If you can't get at the images let me know and I will get them.
No explanation of the "de" but I have seen Froud as fFroud which might be transcribed as "de"

I followed the link (thanks for that), and the six de Frouds on the 1871 census are actually de Fronds, and are part of my Mary's potential family.
