Jeremiah Fugate

I am looking for Jeremiah Fugate who was born in 1792 and was living in Meigs County, Ohio by 1830. He is not the Jeremiah who lived in Frederick or Fairfax, Virginia, because they both appear in the 1850 census in their respective states. Jeremiah Fugate married Susannah Buck (b. 1800) and they lived in Ohio. I'm not sure when they were married, where they were each born, or when they came to Ohio. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

My understanding is that all Fugate/Fugett et.al were from the French Huguenots who were chased out of France, because of their protestant faith, by the French Catholics. Here is a copy of what I found. This is from the research of Mary D. Fugett, a well know researcher of the line.

Note: Name: James FUGATE , Sex: M Birth: ABT 1630 in (Note) "Ffugeett/La Foucate/Fugate" - Great Yarmouth, ENGLAND, County of Norfolk. A Seaport & Holiday Resort on the East Coast on the North Sea. Death: in Virginia Note: Date: Mon, 27 Nov 2000 Subject: Fugate Family The FUGATE family were French Hugenots, that fled from France to England and then later to America. Hugenots were FRENCH PROTESTANTS, members of the Calvinist church or reformed church, communion of France, whose liberty of worship at first denied, was denied by Edict of Nantes (1598) and aga withdrawn, when the edict was provoked (1685) by King Louis XIV. Huegnot, means by night, so they worshipped by night, so not to be found out, to escape persecution, many French Huegnots then emigrated to England and stayed there, some others left England for the US. The Fugate line emigrated to England and stayed there, some others later left England for America. The Fugate line that married into the Ritchie line were French Hugenots that fled to Great Yarmouth in the County of Norfolk in England, a well known Seaport and Famous Holiday resort on the East coast, on the North Sea, the first Fugate Emmigrant went to England and met his English wife there. Note by Susan Fahnstrom at email: sfahnstrom@webtv.net The Fugate Family Newsletter, Editor: Mary D. Fugate Reference: Volume XIII, May 1991, No. 1 pg. 11 - Spelling of Fugate ? The Few-git pronounciation and subsequent spellings of that sound, are found in Southern families. Even the Southern Fugates say Few-git. But the families of PA who moved on into Ohio and Indiana remained Fugate and say it that way. By the mid-1800`s the spellings were pretty well established, Fugetts of Arkansas and Texas were the Fugates of Kentucky and Virginia. Some of the descendants of Castlewood John Fugate wrote his name as Fugit as did his sons. Castlewood John Fugate came originally from King George Co, VA where the spelling was consistently "Fugate". The point is that these variations can all be traced back to people who were most often recorded as "Fugate" and the various spellings can all be found in references to the same individual.
I not sure yet how are two families are related. My Great grandfather is William Silas Stevens. I have been trying to find info on his line for a long time. If you have anything that would be great. I don't have anything on your family, but if I come across anything in my research I will send it your way. If you don't live in Wa state. Let me know if you need something looked up at one the of the archive buildings. I will put it on my list so the next time I go I can look it up for you. They have a lot of documents on line through the washington state digital archives. I hope this helps out.
Tanna

Hi. I'm trying to find information about Goldie Bolen Johnson Powell. She was born in ~1894 to William Hampton Bolen and Clara Fugate (1873-1898)(m. 1891 McDonough Co.). Clara died in 1898. I'm not sure what happened to William Hampton Bolen. Goldie was adopted by John and Mary Johnson. I believe this all happened in Schuyler Co. and Mc Dunough Co. Illinois. Goldie Johnson married Philip Powell in approx. 1915. Any info will help!

Thanks,

Jaimie Powell

Malinda Fugate was my great-grandmother. Flossie (Flocie) Fugate Barker was my grandmother. She married Col. Heiskell Barker (not sure of the year). They had the following children. Listed eldest to youngest; Beatrice, Geneva, Eugene, Wanda,Franklin (my dad) and Donald. I found a real estate purchase from the Kingsport,TN newspaper where they (Barker & Fugate) purchased property. I believe the year of purchase was 1923 or 1924. I would love to know the history you have complied. :-)

I have seen this previously but never on the news wire until now. I have a Martin Fugate in my lineage who was born in Hansonville, Russel County, Virginia in 1786 and married Nancy unknown born in North Carolina in 1794 who were located in the Military Tract of Illinois by 1832. I am not confident that the Blue Fugate's are from France. There were many Fugate's in the Virginia & North Carolina region well before Blue Martin was born. The only way to tell would be to do genetic testing of the lineage to connect them to one of the other families.

I am assuming you are referring to Martin Fugate and Elizabeth Smith. From what I have read Martin and Elizabeth came to Ball Creek or around that area about 1820 from Tennessee.
Another Martin is the son of Benjamin Fugate and Hannah? Benjamin and Hannah settled in Breathitt Co.

I might have seen a missing Fugate in Osborns in Culver, Indiana. I very tall, very scruffy, hairy man came in with a small woman with long brown hair holding his arm like she was blind. He was walking very slowly and being led by a middle school-age girl back to the Subway ordering line. The man and woman appeared to be partially blind, deaf, frightened, or all three. My son could not stop staring at his purplish-blue skin! It was shocking!

Was Blue Matrin Fugate Really a French Orphan?

Apparently we're all the hot news today on yahoo's homepage.

It's nothing new, it's the same old rehashing of the story of Benjy Stacy being born blue. (Check out the attached screenshot)

You can read it here: http://gma.yahoo.com/fugates-kentucky-skin-bluer-lake-louise...

My question is this: what is the evidence that Martin was "a French orphan?" As far as I can tell there were tons of Fugates around Virgina, Tennessee and Kentucky - and that they all were English or Scottish.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? It's been bugging me for awhile.

Thanks!
Mary

PS In case you're wondering my g-g-g-grandmother was Ruth Fugate ~1814-~1870. Any matches or info on her direct line?
I know his father was Henley Fugate Jr, and his father was Henley Fugate Sr. I need clarification on the line from that point back. I thought the next father was Martin Fugate, but am now seeing several references to it being John Zachariah (a brother of Martin). Is there proof of which is correct? I would be interested in anything in the Fugate Family Newsletter related to my part of the Fugate tree. Thank you very much

Any info earlier than James La Fougate (Fugate)Sr. B 1630 & spouse Emaline Lambe, married 8 Jun 1651, Yarmouth, Eng. My Line: James Sr, Peter, Josiah, Martin, Benjamin, Henley, Samuel, Solomon, and Harlis Fugate (wife Julie) of Breathitt Co. I do have Em Lambe's parents as James Lambe and Dorothy Pettit of Middlesex, Eng, but I'm not sure of James La Fougate Sr.'s parents and earlier data on either of them.

My FFNs are filed away but I do have David Faris "The Fugate Family of Russell Co. VA" (Library of Congress 85-82569 available thru the public library) listing thousands of Fugates. Available through the Mormans LDS libraries - order # 6048743. Also, I could do some lookups for you.
My line is Peter, Colbert, John (1796-1878), Robert Bracken, John George Monroe, John, Ersa

I am attempting to establish if James Fugate of Molus, KY (b. 1906) son of Elizabeth Brock and Floyd Fugate, is the same “Jimmy” who was briefly married to my grandmother back in the late 1920s.

All that we know is that “our” James Fugate left Molus, KY to find work during the Depression and ended up in Ohio. He met and married my grandmother there in the late 1920s and they had one son.

Shortly thereafter, James returned to Molus and was not really heard from again.

Thanks for any info that anybody might have to offer on our family mystery.
I don't know where to start, but my sister Shirley Couch was doing this search on our great grandfather Jefferson Fugate, she passed away over a year ago and didn't get the information. I am trying to follow some leads she was working on, so if you could give me the information I would be very pleased. Thank you just let me know what to do concerning this. I am not familiar with ancestory work and research. Thank you glenna_campbell@yahoo.com

Looking for information on Fugitts in VA

My Great grandmother Was Carrie B. Fugitt (1902-1948)of Maryland. Through the census records I've been able to find her Father Issac C. Fugitt (1869-?)of VA and Albert S. Fugitt (1830-1907)of Va. According to the 1880 census he lived in Port Royal Caroline Va and had a brother Named John F. Fugitt living with him.

I can see that there are a lot of Fuggits/Fugates in the reigon but I'm having trouble making the connection. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
