William Fulcher b1883 in London

I am trying to trace a grand uncle, William Fulcher who was born on the 11th January 1888 at Somers Town, Middlesex.

In the 1901 census he is shown as residing on the Training Vessel Shaftesbury at Grays, Essex, with the entry “under detention until 16 years of age. I can find no trace of him beyond 1901.

I believe he may have joined the navy and family information suggests that he was killed during WW1.

Can anyone help with tracing William, his navy service, why he was sent to TV Shaftesbury and where I can find the records for the TV Shaftesbury?
James Morrison Fulcher

I am looking for the parents or any siblings of my 2x great grandfather James Morrison Fulcher, born abt 1808 in Glasgow, Scotland. The first record I have of him is on his sons birth certificate in Australia in 1855. I am sure he would have had a whole other life befor then, a possible marriage in Scotland or the U.K. and perhaps children, but as yet I am unable to find anything at all. This middle name of Morrison I am sure is a surname that has been passed down. I am also open to the idea he may have been born James Morrison, (as there is no record of a James Fulcher born in Glasgow around that time) and Fulcher came later.. perhaps the father or mother died, remarried. If anyone has a James Fulcher in their tree that they are missing the 2nd half of his life (which was in aust), then please contact me. Thanks kindly.

Walton Fulcher KY-1986 Nebraska

I found photos of Walton Fulcher in a schoolmate's album:
http://www.vioarc.com/ftm/vts/20.html

Walton Fulcher is identified in a V.T.S. dormitory room photo. William Walton Fulcher, son of Charles Buford Fulcher and Annie Darnall Hall of Fairview, KY attended one year of high school in Pembroke, KY before enrolling at V.T.S. in 1914. According to his biography, the school had about 60 students at the time. He also appears in another album photograph, identified by his nickname, "Frostbite". He played tennis, wrote poetry, contributed to the V.T.S. newspaper, The Owl. His June 1916 graduating class of 18 students included one female. He served in France during WWI, attended college in Clarksville, Tennessee and became a teacher. He moved to Alabama, married and raised a son. He was living in Lincoln, Nebraska when he died in 1986.

Contact me for higher resolution image files.

My sister-in-law has the book, "The Fulchers Descendants of the Norsemen" Vol. I. I have a copy of that one. However, Richard also wrote Vol II which was suppose to be a study of the family from 1000 A.D. to about 1652 when they came to this country. He also stated in the Forward for the first book that Vol. III was complete which was a study of the descendants of Philip Fulcher. Vol. IV was complete of the descendants of William Fulcher of Caswell Co., NC. I have heard from his daughter and she says after his death, the books have disappeared. She was going to ask other family members if any of them had copies. I haven't had any luck in finding them online. Sure would be nice to be able to read them.
Diane Fulcher
ddfulcher@gmail.com

I can borrow the book if there is something you want me to look up. I read the book many years ago but need to read it again since my research has opened up many new questions. I have been trying to keep up with the Fulcher Study through everyone's emails, but haven't been able to get back involved with the research because of illness.

Ellen Fulcher Cloud

Mary and Diane...I had a family member contact me a few days ago, asking for a copy of "Descendants of the Norseman" as they were searching for specific death records. Dad kept several of these histories, along with copies of his other works in a home office. Unfortunately, all was destroyed--Books, manuscripts, notes--all of them. I have tried contacting another family member that I know still has a copy. I am uncertain if there are any copies/references in local libraries or the Tennessee State Library and Archives.

However, I will most certainly help in anyway that I can. Let me make contact with other Family members and see what I can find.

Levi Fulcher b. NC/SC went to Williamson Co, Illinois

I was checking out some the Ancestry Trees posted online and found many linking Levi Fulcher of Williamson Co, IL to Fulcher family in NC, some have him as Levi Clark Fulcher.
My Levi Fulcher was b abt 1831, in 1850, he is living in Williamson Co, IL with the George Goddard family, his age is 18 and listed as a farmer. There is a Illinois marriage record for
FULSHER, LEVI PHELPS, SARAH 1851-03-17 B /35 WILLIAMSON
Levi Fulcher had a daughter Mary Tamar Fulcher, b.1855 who married Richard Taylor Holderfield 10-26-1873 in Williamson Co, IL. I have found many trees linking this Mary Tamar Fulcher to Levi Clark Fulcher of NC.
Levi is in the 1850, 1860, 1865 census for Williamson Co, IL. I believe my Levi married Sarah Phelps, she died in April 1860 and he remarried Amanda/Mandie Croutch. I loose the family after 1865, There were at least 2 children by this marriage, 1st possible George Washington Fulcher who married a Catherine Eaves, 2nd Unknown daughter.
If anyone can offer insight or sources for tie to Levi Clark Fulcher of NC it would be greatly appreciated.

Carla, thank you so much for writing. I am involved with a study group trying to find the westward migration of the FULCHER'S along with other families from NC/VA area to TX during the late 1700s and early 1800. They all seemed to go into TX around 1820-30. I am sorry to hear about your father. I am intested in learning and possibly obtaining any book he wrote regarding the FULCHER'S of that area. My husband's 4th g-grandfather, FRANCIS FULCHER, was born ca. 1760, probably in NC. DNA puts the lines back to VA/NC. He was in TN as early as 1801. Please contact me at: ddfulcher@gmail.com
Thanks, Diane Fulcher

This post is somewhat outdated, and I apologize in advance if this does not reach the originator. I am the daughter of the late Mayor Richard Fulcher, and I am familiar of the work you are searching for. Have you been successful in your findings?

Carla Fulcher May

I have noticed on several of the family trees that include William Fulcher, some have NC and some have VA as his birth place. Has anyone found proof of exactly where he was born? I certainly have not. I would like to correspond with anyone that might have proof. William is my husbands 3rd g-grandfather.
Also, William and Rebecca Robbins, Jr. only had 4 children:Joshua, Louvina, Nancy and George.
After William died in 1828, Rebecca married Jacob Mast and they had Madison, Marion, Jacob, Milton and Leona.

Do you live in Texas?
My e-mail is dminke1@airmail.net
Best regards, Donna

Hi, and good morning! Yes, there are some of us researching our Francis Fulcher lines right at the moment and trying to make connections to those back in early Craven C o., NC....Are you related to Jane Creel of Gatesville, TX who researched the line of Nancy and spouse,
John Wiley. Grubb, Manning, Wiley and Fulcher,Young, Vizier/Viser/Visor, Robbins, etc. of Montgomery, Walker, Madison Co.,TX area. Francis came to TX as a colonist in 1835 and died by 1838. Son William resided with wife, Rebecca Robbins, Jr. in Melrose, Nacogdoches Co.,TX while Mary Ann Fulcher and spouse, Jesse Young (early TX Colonist in 1823 ) resided in Walker Co.,TX (one league of land where Midway, TX is today). John Fulcher married Mary Jospehine Robertson/Robinson (Wash., Co.,TX - Samuel her 1st spouse) and resided in Milam District (Milam Co., Bell Co.,TX and are buried at Locklin Cem. at San Gabriel, TX).
Henry Clay Fulcher and bros. Nathaniel, Than, and John Ellis Fulcher moved to McCulloch Co.,TX after 1875 and began the town of Brady (donated square and school - Henry Clay Fulcher 1835 - 1884). His wife, Nancy Gwendolyn Young ,dau of Mary Ann Fulcher and Jesse Young, married 1) Alexander Rayburn (d. by 1855 ) and married 2) Henry Clay Fulcher (1st cousins) in 1856 in Bell Co.,TX.

Curious about your Fulgham surname..are they connected to Benjamin Fulgham who married Abigail (???) who married 2nd to Pierre Vizier of Haywood Co.,TN? Peter Viser/Visor came to TX in 1837 to settle in Red River District (Hopkins/Lamar Co.,TX) and died in Delta Co.,TX at Charleston.

Email me!
The John Fulcher that married Ruth Woodhouse is not the same that married Susanna George. John and Ruth had one son
(name not known). Ruth divorced John and sued for child support but the son died before she was awarded support. John did not remarry. At the time of his death no heirs were named in his will. He named friends and ordered all his slaves be freed and gave them land to live on. This ccaused quite a fuss and was in the courts for some time.

Many researchers want Richard to be the son of John and
Ruth but it just can't be. I have documention of all of this except the death of the son. For some reason I did not note where I found this and have tried to find it again but have had no luck. Makes me want to kick myself! I know it was noted in other records that I was collecting and was really surprised to find it there. I'm not giving up, I will find it.

The name Cason may have first entered indirectly into the FULCHER lineage with the marriage of Ruth CASON to John WOODHOUSE 11 May 1670 Lower Norfolk, VA. Their daughter Ruth WOODHOUSE may have been the first wife of the John FULCHER (1732-1788) of Amherst CO, VA who married second Susannah GEORGE 1818.

Some Ancestry Files state that John FULCHER & Ruth WOODHOUSE had a son Richard FULCHER who md. Elizabeth YOUNGER in 1778.

I haven't studied this branch. This info is what I've gleaned from several Ancestry Files on Ancestry.com. There may be someone in our group (Ellen?) who knows much more about how the Cason name entered into the FULCHER lineage.

Trying to figure out who the early Elizabeth Fulcher is with 2 sons in early Nacogdoches Co.TX coming to TX??? Have you figured if this was our Thomas Fulcher's wife, Elizabeth (Hudson)? Or another Fulcher connection? People have joined DRT on Churchill's line but not sure where he died or date..maybe in/around Sealy, Austin C o.,TX??? Probate/Will - land distribution?
I'm still at the library (state) in genealogy volunteering.
Where were the 1812 military papers found for Francis Fulcher..footnote.com or elsewhere at Nara.gov site or TN state archives?
A few years ago Donna and I corresponded regarding a connection with Cason, but, never did find one other than the fact that they were in SC at the same time. We thought maybe they were brothers or cousins, but, did feel there was a connection. If I remember correctly, when I was looking for Francis in NC, I did find out who Cason's father was. I think he is in the Churchill Fulcher family. I think that Ellen has all that info.

We did Larry's DNA through FamilyTreeDNA and he is part of the Eastern Carolina Roots Project. We did the 12 marker test first, but, that didn't give many results. So, I ordered the 64 marker test to be done. It is easy to order more tests since they already have his DNA. The 64 marker test is the one that gave us names of people with a common ancestor.

Have any of you seen the records of a Francis Leonder Fulcher in TN? Several years ago I saw a reference to the file and requested a microfilm copy of the record. After receiving the film I realized it was too late to be the same Francis in TX and lost interest in the subject and moved on to something else. I was surprised to see a family photo on the film. I need to get the film out and study it some more.

Also a new DNA project has been established for the Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. This includes the surname Fulcher and Austin. http://www.familytreedna.com/public/HatterasFathers
